Plot

Kang Nam-Soon (Lee Yoo Mi)  has superhuman strength. She went missing as a kid in Mongolia. Now as an adult, she comes to Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea to find her parents. She finally meets her mother Hwang Geum-Joo (Kim Jung-Eun). Her mother is a wealthy woman and is a resident of Gangnam. After she lost her daughter, Hwang Geum-Joo tried to find her daughter and she also tried to live a righteous life, obsessed with doing good deeds. Gil Joong-Gan (Kim Hae Sook) is Hwang Geum-Joo's mother and Kang Nam-Soon’s grandmother. The grandmother and mother were also born with superhuman like strength like Kang Nam-Soon.

Somehow, Kang Nam-Soon, her mother Hwang Geum-Joo and her grandmother Gil Joong-Gan get involved in a drug case that takes place in Gangnam. The sequel for the hit drama “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” is coming!

On May 27, various media outlets shared that actress Lee Yoo Mi from “Squid Game” and “All of Us Are Dead” will be starring as the female lead in the “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” sequel titled “Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon.”

Later on the same day, it was confirmed that Lee Yoo Mi, Ong Seong Wu, Byun Woo Seok, Kim Hae Sook, and Kim Jung Eun will be starring in “Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon.”

“Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” is a romantic comedy that stars Park Bo Young, Park Hyung Sik, Ji Soo, and more, and it follows the story of Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young), a young woman gifted with superhuman strength. She falls in love and hopes to achieve her dream of becoming a game designer.

The sequel will revolve around Do Bong Soon’s distant cousin Kang Nam Soon, who has immense strength. Not only does she have great power, but so does her mother Hwang Geum Joo and grandmother Gil Joong Gan. Written by Baek Mi Kyung of “Mine” and helmed by Kim Jung Sik of “Work Later, Drink Now,” the drama centers on the reality of new drug crimes that happens in Gangnam.

Kim Jung Eun will take on the role of Hwang Geum Joo, a wealthy and righteous woman in Gangnam who has obsessively been doing good things in order to find her lost daughter. Lee Yoo Mi will star as Kang Nam Soon, a whimsical and cheerful young woman with great strength. She became a missing child in Mongolia and came to Gangnam to find her parents. Veteran actress Kim Hae Sook will play Kang Nam Soon’s maternal grandmother Gil Joong Gan.

Ong Seong Woo will be taking on the role of Kang Hee Sik, a detective of a secret investigation team that is investigating drugs in Gangnam whom Kang Nam Soon has eyes for. Byun Woo Seok will be turning into the charming villain Ryu Si Oh.

Filming will begin this summer, and the drama will air in the first half of next year.

Kim Jung Eun, Kim Hae Sook, Lee Yoo Mi, Ong Seong Wu, and Byun Woo Seok will be the main leads of the upcoming drama "Strong Woman Gang Nam Soon (literal translation)".

On  May 27th MBN News reported that a sequel of the drama "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" is in the works and the casting and production team have already been confirmed. 

"Strong Woman Gang Nam Soon" will be directed by Kim Jung Sik ("Work Later, Drink Now") and the script will be penned by the same writer of "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon," Baek Mi Kyung. 

The upcoming series will be the sequel to the 2017 drama. This time, the story will be about a strong woman named Gang Nam Soon. She is a relative of Do Bong Soon. Just like the female relatives of Do Bong Soon in 2017, Gang Nam Soon's mother and grandmother are equally strong. The drama will also showcase the reality of new drug crimes centered around Gangnam. 

Kim Jung Eun will play the role of Hwang Geum Ju, a tycoon in Gangnam who's been living life with good deeds to find her lost daughter.

Lee Yoo Mi will play as Gang Nam Soon, an energetic woman who came to Gangnam to find her parents. She was an international missing child in Mongolia. 

Kim Hae Sook will play the maternal grandmother of Gang Nam Soon. She is a butcher at Majangdong and she is also a member of the secret investigation team in Gangnam wherein they fight against drugs. 

"Strong Woman Gang Nam Soon" will be produced by Barunson C&C Co. Ltd ("Parasite" and "The Age Of Shadows") and  Story Phoenix Co., Ltd., founded by writer Baek Mi Kyung.

 

 

In 2021, writer Baek Mi Kyung already shared that she was working on the sequel of the 2017 JTBC series "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon." The drama was led by Park Bo Young, Park Hyung Sik, Kim Ji Soo, Jun Suk Ho, Shim Hye Jin, and Yoo Jae Myung. The series got high ratings and it was even popular with international k-drama fans. 

The series also received several nominations and the main lead Park Bo Young won "Best Actress" and "Outstanding Korean Actress" at two different award-giving bodies.

“Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon” is the upcoming sequel of the hit 2017 drama “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” and it will tell the story of Do Bong Soon’s distant cousin Kang Nam Soon.

On March 30, a source from “Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon” confirmed, “Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik received offers to make special appearances, and they have completed filming.”

Even in the current sea of K-drama superheroes, we don’t see too many females armed with super strength. But rest assured, JTBC is here to fill that void with not just one but three (!) super ladies in the spin-off Strong Woman Kang Nam-soon.

As the teaser’s captions explain, Do Bong-soon kept an eye on the Dobong district. But the Gangnam area is now getting its own protector with Lee Yumi (Mental Coach Jegal) announcing her arrival as our heroine Kang Nam-soon.

 

According to the story’s mythology, the gift of super strength follows a strictly matriarchal line in their family (Nam-soon and Bong-soon are second cousins), and the power gets passed down from mothers to daughters. However, Nam-soon was adopted as a child by a family in Mongolia and she has now returned to South Korea to find her biological parents.

We’re thus treated to three generations of strong women when Nam-soon is reunited with sword fighter and chaebol mom Kim Jung-eun (My Dangerous Wife), together with the fashion fabulous grandma Kim Hae-sook (Revenant). Thankfully, there aren’t any serial killers in sight (yet) and the main mystery that our trio set out to solve involves dramaland’s recent favorite crime: drugs.

 

Although not yet featured, the spin-off also stars Ong Sung-woo (Would You Like a Cup of Coffee), Byun Woo-seok (Moonshine), and Lee Seung-joon (Behind Your Touch) as Nam-soon’s dad.

On the production side, directing is being helmed by PD Kim Jung-shik (So Not Worth It) and PD Lee Kyung-shik, with scripts by the original series writer Baek Mi-kyung (Mine). Coming to our screens this fall on October 7, JTBC’s Strong Woman Kang Nam-soon follows Behind Your Touch in the weekend slot.

JTBC is finally lifting the veil on its brand new weekend drama, Strong Woman Gang Nam-soon (literal title).

The show follows a three-generation family of women, each endowed with extraordinary strength, as they navigate the criminal underbelly of Gangnam to take down a new breed of drug dealers. Touted as a “comedic crime showdown,” the drama is already generating buzz for extending the universe of its hit predecessor, Strong Girl Bong-soon, six years later.

 

The series has been making waves even before its release, thanks to its creative team. Writer Baek Mi Kyung, who first introduced the concept of a female superhero to Korean drama, joins forces with Director Kim Jeong Sik of Work Later, Drink Now to deliver what promises to be another sensation. Heightening the anticipation, the show features a unique trio of “invincible” women, played by Lee Yoo Mi, Kim Jung Eun, and Kim Hae Sook, and a supporting cast including Ong Seong Wu, Byeon Woo Seok, and more.

A spin-off of the hit drama “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” “Strong Girl Namsoon” is a comedy drama about three generations of women born with unbelievable strength as they uncover the truth behind the drug-related crimes that occur around Gangnam area.

Lee Yoo Mi takes on the role of Do Bong Soon’s second cousin Gang Nam Soon, an eccentric and lively person with amazing strength who flew from Mongolia to find her parents. Kim Jung Eun plays Gang Nam Soon’s mother Hwang Geum Joo, a money tycoon in Gangnam with a strong sense of justice. Finally, Kim Hae Sook portrays Gang Nam Soon’s maternal grandmother Gil Joong Gan, a living legend in the neighborhood of Majang.
