“The King’s Affection” And Lee Sun Gyun Nominated For 2022 International Emmy Awards

“The King’s Affection” and Lee Sun Gyun have both been nominated for the 50th International Emmy Awards!

 

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced the nominations for this year’s International Emmy Awards, which recognize achievements in television programming that is originally produced and aired outside of the United States.

 

KBS 2TV’s “The King’s Affection,” which stars Park Eun Bin and SF9’s Rowoon, has been nominated for Best Telenovela. Executive producer Yoon Jae Hyuk remarked, “This nomination is all thanks to the love and interest of our viewers both within Korea and abroad. We will continue to pour our all into producing K-dramas that can receive even more love.”

 

Meanwhile, Lee Sun Gyun has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for his starring turn in the Apple TV+ series “Dr. Brain.”

 

The 2022 International Emmy Awards will be held on November 21 in New York.

“The King’s Affection” Becomes First K-Drama To Win At International Emmys

“The King’s Affection” has taken home an award at the 50th International Emmys!

 

At the ceremony that opened in New York on November 21 local time, the drama went on to take the win for Best Telenovela, beating out the other nominees including “Nos Tempos do Imperador” from Brazil, “Two Lives” from Spain, and “You Are My Hero” from China.

 

“The King’s Affection,” starring Park Eun Bin and SF9’s Rowoon, is a story that takes place during the Joseon Dynasty when birthing twins was considered an ominous sign. When the Crown Princess Consort gives birth to twins, the daughter is sent away, only to come back later dressed as a man to become the Crown Prince after her twin brother’s death. The drama received praise for the deep emotion it conveyed to viewers all around the world.

 

The drama and its cast have also gained much attention as the winners of multiple awards such as the International Competition Award at the 17th Seoul Drama Awards and Best Actor Award at the 49th Korea Broadcasting Awards.

 

Lee Geon Joon, the head of KBS Drama Center, commented, “I’m so happy that ‘The King’s Affection’ won the first-ever International Emmy as a Korean drama, and it’s a pleasure to have the potential of Korean dramas as a whole receive recognition.” He added, “I feel an immense sense of responsibility during this time when K-content is receiving so much love around the world. We will do our best so that KBS dramas can play a large role in maintaining the potential of Korean [entertainment] content.”
