‘Squid Game’ is Netflix’s biggest hit with the longest viewing time ever. Accordingly, ‘Squid Game’, which returns for Season 2 with worldwide interest, begins with the main character Ki-hoon (Lee Jeong-jae), who gave up on going to the United States, returning with a goal that must be achieved. The appearances of Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Park Gyu-young revealed by the production team stimulate curiosity about what kind of exciting story Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ will unfold.

According to Netflix on the 2nd, ‘Squid Game 2’ begins with Ki-hoon (Lee Jeong-jae), who gave up on going to the United States, returning with a purpose. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who became the first Asian to win Best Director at the Emmy Awards for Season 1, once again took charge of directing, writing, and producing. Season 1 actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and Gong Yoo appear again, and Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee Da-wit, Choi Seung-hyun, Noh Jae-won, Jo Yuri, and Won Ji-an are newly joining the cast.

In the still released on this day, Lee Byung-hun appears without his mask, unlike in Season 1. He served as the frontman in season 1, only briefly revealing his face in the final episode. There is also a scene where Ki-hoon meets again with the so-called ‘Ttatjinam’ (Gong Yoo) who led him into the survival game. A new character (Park Gyu-young) who received an invitation to a survival game is also seen. ‘Squid Game’ is a story about people who participate in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives and challenging the extreme game. Season 1, released in 2021, caused a stir around the world, recording 2.3 billion hours of cumulative viewing time.

While the powerful appearances of the actors who received special presence and great love as the characters Ki-hoon, Frontman (Lee Byung-hun), and Ddakji-nam (Gong Yoo) are attracting attention, attention is also focused on the character of Park Gyu-young, who appears for the first time in Season 2. Park Gyu-young is holding an invitation to the ‘Squid Game’ with a meaningful expression.

Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ was once again directed, written, and produced by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who made history by becoming the first Asian to win the Best Director Award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards. Previously, Director Hwang expressed confidence, saying, “You can look forward to a deeper story and message that will unfold with a new game and new characters.”

In addition to season 1 cast members such as Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, the faces of actors taking on new roles are also a hot topic. Actors with solid acting skills, including Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Seong-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Da-wit Lee, Choi Seung-hyun, Noh Jae-won, Jo Yuri, and Won Ji-an, herald the appearance of new and colorful characters.
