Same here! Are there any updates on him?

None, as far as I know.

Yes, you guys influenced me to watch it from the PM discussion. Lol! I usually stay away from historical dramas but I was just dying of curiousity about what the heck you guys were talking about!

I was also surprised about all the new characters introduced in episodes 5/6 but it makes sense considering the time jump happened around that time and the main leads don't even get reacquainted until the end of episode 6.

But isn't that because they think one of the childs can take it but others cry over it also when they give out allowance the one who doesn't spend much would get lesser. I think Deok Seon's mother would be more nice if it wasn't about money since she was always  stressed over money it gets her more than necessary.

Don't think so. She really favors Bora all the time. Even when her dad was so mad at her she would always protect Bora

He did pick a good follow-up to Reply 1988. And I hope this illness is only a temporary set-back.

Are we going to talk about Mirror of the Witch now, too?  Did we influence you to watch it? :D It's okay to make references. Some themes are pretty common. But as I was complaining in PM, what I found distracting in MotW was the introduction of so many new characters in Episode 5/6.  I guess I was used to R88 where all the characters were set by Episode 1 while in MotW, Episode 1 was just the back story, the prologue.  R88 is more a character-driven plot.

For some reason I watched  mirror of the witch ep2 first and went back to watching ep1 it was like watching one long flashback but it was  more intriguing lol

So there's a slight inconsistency here that I'm a bit confused about.

During the flashback of SW's dad's funeral in this episode, it says "Winter, 2 years ago" but we see SW's family observing his dad's death day on BR's birthday; which is in September....So which is it? Fall or Winter?

Is SW's family observing rites for his father's birthday in September or something? I'm not really sure how these remembrance days work...

Parents are like that. They say they don't have preferences but they do. I don't have a favorite but I favor the younger more than his sister most of the time. But in fairness to me, since I too am a middle child I'm more sensitive to my daughters feelings especially when she tells me that I favor her brother more. Hehehehehe... I know what it feels when everyone blames you even if you're not the cause of it... I feel for Deoksun...

I get you. I whine and blame my husband for having only sons. But I think I make a much better mother to sons than to daughters. I’d would have been sooooo demanding with my daughters, because my mother was tough on me, too.

My first rule if I had a daughter would be no kdrama until she’s in her 50s. hahahaha. I'd be the equivalent of the soup nazi.

I'm so glad that R88 only had one time jump! Both kdramas began when the main characters were in the late teens 17~ 18 years old, but DS seems to be more mature. I know she has tantrums and all, but the female lead in MotW seems so naïve and fragile. Can you imagine DS being ordered to do something WITHOUT being given the rational, and NOT rebelling against it?  The character of DS was more assertive and secured of herself compared to the female lead in MotW so it'll be interesting to see how the latter develops into a woman.

...And that's funny because I always considered DS as "young" in the beginning.

Waaaaaaaa... I have two threads opened and I just posted on the wrong thread... Hahahahahaha...

BTW... Taek knows more abouth JH's mom more than JH himself...

Hahaha! what thread did you post in?

That's not surprising though. For someone who lives with them, JH doesn't know much about any of his family except for JB. Remember how DR had to tell him what was wrong with his dad a few episodes back?

It seems like everyone in the neighborhood knows more about deciphering another person's feelings than JH does...

The sheltered way she was raised didn't leave much room for growth though. Seems like she'd been in the same place her entire life.

DS at least had friends and schoolmates around her to raise her awareness of how things worked in other families. Our lead in MotW didn't have that, aside from her "brother." Said brother wasn't supposed to go see her either, probably for fear that it would cause her to disobey. But I won't get into that here. :D

uh oh. I hope they didn't gang up on you like *some* people did with @hushhh.

What's that white headband for?  Why was JH's mom wearing that white headband when they heard news about JB failing the exam?  I don't get the cultural symbolism. Did you?

And yes, I think TK knew about JH's mom's anxiety.

Even the JH's dad didn't get his wife. His wife had gone for two -- not one, but two -- spa sessions. She needed spa therapy (like I need shoe therapy on stressing work days) to ease her tension about the operation.

The other moms probably sensed a bit of MiRan's stress because they were all talking and admiring how emotionally strong she was during the hardship days, but I don't know if they actually figured out that MiRan was simply putting up a strong front and acting brave for everybody, even though she was really frightened.

Is it just me thinking that when DS reprimanded Taek in front of everyone is her making a claim that Taek is her's in front of people in the baduk world? And look at Taek, instead of being offended he just smiled at her. If it was JH, he would've definitely hit DS or humiliated her more...

There is also that still when one parents angry other one usually stands for the child not to hurt them. Just like when they learnt that JB was disqualified Ra Mi Ran was boiling but his father consoled him ^^

--Ah! Forget to ask why ’Donna~‘ was playing when JB packed his stuff thinking he wouldn't live long?

I think it was supposed to be a headache patch. Kind of like those stick on cooling patches you can get for fevers now.

Ah, shoe therapy. I could break the bank if I didn't have self control. I was joking in the DotS thread the other day about how I practically cried at the female lead destroying her shoes when disaster hit, right @melissala? She destroys not one but TWO pairs of shoes during the course of the show. :tears:

What' with JH's nosebleeds. I don't get how it fits the story..

Pretty sure it's just to show that he has poor health and that it runs in the family. He's also the one that always wears jackets and pants when it's the slightest bit cold [and won't share....:phew:]

Same here, I don’t get nosebleeds in dramaland.  Like, what does it mean the lead character gets a nosebleed?
a. he doesn’t know that he has cancer and is dying
b. he’s suffering from unrequited love
c. he’s working hard at school
d. he’s sexually aroused
e. he’s sensitive to temperature/atmospheric pressure change
f. he’s got beaten up.

JH’s nosebleeds are interesting. I still can get over that time when he got a nosebleed when the door slammed on his face. But I like the way DS used this opportunity to embarrass him about reading porn (he got excited so his nose was bleeding).  But I really like how the SW just said that it was because HE was weak physically. Hahaha. Both brothers have a frail constitution.

Bora's ex is very stup!d. He asked her if she really has no emotions... Man he should jist look and see that she's on the verge of crying. And why is he the one getting mad whenhe's the one who cheated on her. Why are guys like that?

In my opinion, that was just an excuse for him to break up with BR for her "easy" friend. BR is clearly not an easy girl if she balks at even hand holding. Turns out to be good for her though since she gets rid of the guy who wants to take the easy route and picks one up who not only wants the challenge of getting BR but actually likes it.

I love love love the adult part in this episode with TK's teasing of DS's protectiveness over NE.

I love all the adult parts actually. They're not sickly sweet but show the kind of real affection you'd see in a real life couple.

Before I forget… That scene in the Brazil dukbokki restaurant. I think it provided a nice summation for how DS really viewed the whole crush fiasco with SW. She got mad at her girlfriends and said that she was humiliated.

There! For her, the whole SW incident was humiliating. She didn’t say that she broke her heart or that she was disappointed or that she was scarred for life.  She was humiliated. Meaning, she was mad because that whole fiasco made her look stupid and foolish.

It shouldn't have happened if she didn't listen to her foolish friends.

I had said in our PM that when she had the crying jag in her room after her discovery of SW’s real love, she was NOT crying over a broken heart but over a bruised ego. She was crying because she came out second-best to her sister Bora once again. It was an “insult” to her that SW would choose Bora over her. She thought that the reasons SW gave for liking Bora were all stupid.  For instance, when SW said he liked Bora’s mole, she claimed that SHE gave Bora that scar.

Had she been in love with SW, her focus wouldn't be on her sister's gain, but on her feelings, her pain.  And she would get mad at SW for hurting HER and discarding HER... not for liking Bora.  Bora should've been irrelevant. :D
