Remember there was one stupid scare where a reported deduced that Yeolie would drop out of Taxi Driver due to Lucky Romance casting?
That stupid reporter was very wrong.

According to Korean film industry associates, rising actor Ryu Jun-yeol has confirmed his role in the upcoming film “Taxi Driver” (working title), alongside veteran actor Song Kang-ho.

The film will mark renowned director Jang Hoon’s comeback after a five-year hiatus. Jang’s noteworthy past works include the films “The Front Line” and “Secret Reunion,” in which Song had also starred as the main lead.

The plot of “Taxi Driver” will revolve around the tragic, yet revolutionary May 18 Gwangju Uprising in 1980. The pro-democracy movement has spawned several films in the past such as the 2007 box office hit “May 18” featuring actor Lee Joon-gi.

Song will take on the role of a taxi driver who unwittingly escorts a German reporter into the heart of the revolution. Ryu will also play a significant role within the plot as a university student in the city of Gwangju.

According to an industry insider, there were concerns on whether Ryu would accept the role due to his hectic schedule involving the new drama, “Lucky Romance,” which airs its pilot episode on MBC network on May 25.

Filming for “Taxi Driver” will begin soon.

Junyeol did said in the concert that he has another movie in the 2nd half year..i am sure that this is what he's talking about since the casting news (though still unconfirmed at the time) was march 7th. so he already got the offer but still consider the script and schedule (i am pretty sure that he really wanted this project).

Korean actor Song Kang-ho will play the lead role in an upcoming film about Gwangju Uprising, tentatively titled “Taxi Driver,” production company The Lamp announced Tuesday.

The film is based on a real story by Jurgen Hinzpeter, a German journalist who filmed and reported the May 18 Democratic Uprising in Gwangju in 1980. It will depict the story of Hinzpeter and a taxi driver who helped him take the video recording of the massacre in Gwangju out of the city, evading the government troops.

Hinzpeter received the Song Kun-ho Journalism Prize in 2003 for his efforts, where he referred to the courageous taxi driver Kim Sa-bok.

Hinzpeter, who died on Jan. 25 at the age of 79, had left his nail clippings and hair when he visited Gwangju in 2005. The remains will be buried in a grave at Mangwol-dong, Gwangju, where victims of the brutal crackdown of the uprising are laid to rest, according to his wishes.

Song will play the main character taxi driver Kim, and Yu Hae-jin and Ryu Jun-yeol will also star in the film.

The movie will begin filming in May, and is scheduled for release next year.

So the movies will be about real story of the eyewitness.i thought the taxi driver was only a fictional character, fictional eyewitness...and  i know it's going to be mega heartbroken especially knowing what happened in Gwangju at May 18. it's going to be a great movie...thank God at least we have LR to laugh about before watching TD.

May 25 come soon....I can't wait to see more of RJY.

Lucky Romance will be a good start, A romantic Comedy, just what we need after Reply 1988. (Hope he get the girl this time :sweatingbullets::D).

Then both The King and Taxy Driver seem like movies with heavy and serious themes. He act with such great and well known actor. I hope he can learn from all of them.

I have faith that he will florish to be a great actor in future .

Hello guys, iam very happy to hear that oppa is confirmed to act in taxi movie. But seeing the one line of the story, iam sure he is going to break my heart once again. But iam ready for that. Bring it on oppa

Anyways, the voting for popularity award in baeksang has started and oppa is in 3rd place

tumblr_o6lge6ycOJ1vso0bbo1_400.png

I am really proud that he made it to the third place, considering some of the big names in the list.

The voting has not been available for international fans yet. So its only the Korean peoples vote.

I am not sure whether he will win but iam just happy that he is getting the recognition

But i have hope that he will win in the best new actor category. Fingers crossed.
