Not all. As @ruizaio pointed out there are also many korean fans devoted to ljg and mlshr. We just cant see it because lack of access and language barier. Plus, i think the bad vibe by korean audience exacerbated by the antis. One thing we international fans can be thankfull for missing all the hatred.

He's the only actor that makes me send DM on IG to tell some encouragement words (not that he would read it though among the thousands DM he must be getting now lol). After the interview came out there must be tons of fans, Korean and international, who send him love and support. I'm happy he gets those and I love the way he appreciates his fans by posting this. So much love and respect for this man.

Sidenote: Can I pretend that he did read my DM and it's one of the "pep talk" he was talking about? kekeke~

Actually I had followed this thread for 1 month now, but no chance to left a post. Hehehe. I'm more active in JoonU shipper thread, I guess.

I think I must agree with you all, guys. This drama deserves higher ratings from current ratings. For me, this is the first drama that makes me lurking everywhere to know more information about this drama. ML is the reason i made a Soompi account, although i NEVER (in my life) involved in an online forum (whatever the topic is). Never in my life, watching a drama that bring my feeling, emotion, thought, time (and maybe my life too. Hahaha) so much into it.

My opinion, when it comes to choose the casts from non-actor/actress background, it will be a dual blade sword. Neither it will bring to success or failure drama. The benefit from cast a talent from non-actor/actress, of course, it can bring new viewer from its non actor/actress environment. But of course, if the viewer are not "open-minded" enough, they won't bother to watch that drama because they speculated that drama won't have enough quality because lacking of acting skill, blah blah blah.

When I thought about the reason why this drama get such a low rating even with such this great quality (for me at least), I think S-Korean (maybe, i'm not S-Korean, so correct me if i wrong) are being skeptical whether "non-actor/actress" casts will be doing a great job with this drama, even some don't wanna bother to give it a try to watch it, they don't expect much from this drama. They don't open their mind enough to receive such a new (or rather must i said "fresh") casts and "leaning-to-modern-concept" saeguk drama, so they don't wanna wasting time watching a drama that don't have any quality assurance.

But if they have an open-minded thinking, I think they should be grateful to have such a multi-talented Entertainment talents, right? Imagine if they grateful and fully support them, they (the talents) can develop more Entertainment skill, and SK will have so much multi-talented talents, and maybe could be a leader in entertainment industry, Asia, even World, maybe? So please give them a chance to develop their talents and don't judge them because of their initial debut profession. I think PD won't be choose them if they feel the talents don't qualified enough to play the roles. I'm so sad if they did such a "labelling" behavior for a new-comer in this entertainment field. From what I see, Korean has a very very dedicated and hard-working talents, if it comes to entertainment world. So, there's no "impossible" for them to reach a good quality work.

In my opinion, this drama is great, although, of course, there were some rooms to do an improvement, but i think it deserves much more ratings from current ratings. From its storyline, casts, costumes, makeup, cinemography, original soundtracks, even their culture-involvement in its story were such a great appeal for viewers.

In my opinion, if they have more long episodes and give a bit detail story about other characters in ML, it'll be more interesting. And of course, if they could lessen of "jumping-time" (like 2 years later, etc), it'll be great!

Song Joong Ki is the lucky one whereas others like Hyun Bin also not faring well in drama and therefore, shifting his focus on films. Gong Yoo also did not do well post MS with "Big" but he happened to have great fortune this year with "Train To Busan" and a potential hit drama, "Goblin", penned by star writer Kim Eun Sook. 

I do noticed the pattern though, the boys next door like Lee Seung Gi and Park Bo Gum really do have special place among Koreans and they even have special titles like "The Nation's Emcee", "The Nation's Little Sister/Brother" and so on. I also just came to notice that those given the titles are not that very appealing among overseas fans though.

He may not be a rating winner just yet (after military enlistment, but who knows when his luck may come again. Just look at Gong Yoo and Ji Sung) but they also can't turn a blind eye on his growing popularity abroad. The production and investing companies rely a lot on overseas market and riding on the Hallyu wave, so they sure would consider someone as red hot as Joon Gi is now. Of course, I totally understand that the acceptance of domestic audiences probably mean more to him since nothing feel more like home. His time will come, surely may be just not now.

I am sure luck will be on his side again, i see in him a real sincerity.  And seeing him in the BTS of MLSHR on how he is very considerate towards the junior actors and how he mentors them...he is really awesome and for that he has my respect.
That's why a lot of us begun to care for him too, and reading that article of how he is affected by the rating, get's to affect us too..we get this tendency to be protective of him because he is a good person.

If anything, with the full production drama, i say he definitely have the time to lurk. If this was live shooting, he will have a hard time reading or post anything.

O...k... This is kinda a call-for-calm post. LJG says "I feel sad" and now this whole forum has been having a full-blown heart-attack for the past few hours; my #ScarletHeartRyeo twitter feed seems to be going through a seizure as well. (Is there any doubt about his influence on the fans just by their reaction to this one article/interview?)

So, reality-check:

• Yes, LJG is probably going through a bit of reflection about the drama right now (because as a good actor, that's what you do)
• Yes, ratings suck in SKr and also yes, there's no denying its international success (All the naysayers in this case can frankly just GTH)
• Yes, SBS's baseball mess will continue to disrupt the ratings climb and there's really nothing we can do about it
• Yes, it's a very flawed drama (although we all don't really agree on what the flaws actually are, so I think it's just up to your preference), but such "flaws" have almost nothing to do with LJG or KHN (or the rest of the cast actually, because when the casting decisions were made, the production team and the investors were WELL-AWARE of the calibre of acting EACH of the cast is capable of... No one in the cast is under-performing according to the expectations... If there's any problem, it's the casting decisions that were problematic in the first place)

 

But everybody needs to calm down. LJG's interview highlights all the issues that we are already aware of. His comments regarding the ratings is just his show of professionalism. He shoulders the blame because that's what you do when you're a lead actor and a way more experienced one at that.

There's no real doom and gloom here. The drama has done its job for him in terms of highlighting his talents and massive following in China. It has also expanded his fan-base far and wide. None of the negatives about the drama actually directly affect his portfolio AT ALL. On the other hand, all the positives of the drama seem to revolve around his performance. So, his career is safe; the haters can say all they want, but money-minded as the entertainment industry is, there's no way they would ignore that his talent and popularity is a gold mine... they will definitely be making money off him, so there will be no shortage of career opportunities for him.

You know what all of us can do to help? Don't abandon him after MLSHR. Actually, don't abandon MLSHR after the airing is over. The fandom needs you; LJG needs you. If we keep up the hype until the end of awards season and until he makes the decision on his next project, it would be of a great help to not just LJG, but all the cast.

(On a side note, I hope that his popularity won't lead to him becoming a CF star though. We need more of him in films and dramas, and I hope that he will keep focusing on acting, not commercials.)

 

 

Now, about SBS. This is also a call-for-calm post, but quite a lot less optimistic than the part above. So read it at your own discretion:

I have not been kind to SBS in my previous posts, but let me add a little perspective. I feel that they have made a bad deal for MLSHR with YG and NBC... and they are stuck with it. The screw-ups at the beginning of the drama -- K-Pop & Idol centric casting choices & editing, OST choices, over-exposure from over-zealous marketing.... I don't think they were SBS's decisions. As I have mentioned before, the drama is obviously tailored to court international audience:

I am not excusing SBS for their conduct this week; the massive miscommunication with various entities & utter lack of communication with/disrespect of the fans is not excusable. But I think they just decided to throw in the towel on the drama, because the financial gain by the drama is mostly going to the international investors while SBS has to bear the loss of revenue due to low viewership in SKr. It's so annoying, because if the broadcasting deal and distribution rights were handled properly, there could have been better profit-sharing and this whole mess could have been avoided.

All in all, it is truly sad that because of all the profit-centric decisions (length of drama, casting, marketing) that various entities (SBS, YG, NBC) have made, the creative team & the innocent cast has to suffer for it.

One Chinese fan call him the surveillance TV a.k.a cctv, as in he monitor the social media, responses etc.

So after we talk about him shouldn't be upset after the article come out, he posted that ig post saying he always receive our pep talk and love

A show with lowish ratings in SK fuelling so much discussion and getting so much love. With all its "flaws", it is definitely doing something right. Enough to have that kind of a  pull and such a devoted fanbase. And just because the ratings are low doesn't mean Koreans don't like it because there's so much fan art out there. ML is something of a world-wide phenomenon by any stretch of the imagination.

I know ratings are important to the cast, crew, PD etc for important financial and even artistic reasons.  For some fans it's a vindication of their viewing habits but it shouldn't be. People should enjoy the shows they watch for their own sake even if no one else likes them.

I'm probably sounding like a cranky ajumma right now and I wasn't going to say anything at first but it seemed like the issue isn't going to go away anytime soon. In fact, I'm concerned it will get worse.

 

agree with you @40somethingahjumma i do watch beautiful mind instead of doctors and the rating of BM is below compare to doctors, for me it doesn't make any sense.. same like what happen with MLSHR

but then again... people should enjoy the show  they watch for their own sake even if no one likes them  

people want to watch their preferences (can be different aspect, the actor/actress, the genre, story line you can list it)... and MLSHR is our preferences because of its amazing actor/actress, the story line, the costume, the genre, the LJK  

for me, everything about MLSHR is perfect. And many of fans are so creative in analyzing the storyline, make creative stuff (drawing, video, fanfic, etc).. make other to sneak up the history of goryeo, the technical thing about the angle shoot, at least this is what happen in this forum... so many love for LJK and the cast of MLSHR. 

they work hard are paid off by the love and support from their fans 

i've seen all his drama during the past 2/3 weeks (my addiction of KDrama is back  ... i think my addiction to KDrama is about 10 years ago). thanks to LJK and MLSHR.

I also watch drama Faith because LJK suppose to be the main role in that drama, but due to his military enlistment, it goes to Lee Min Ho... LMH is not bad.. but i was wondering if it was LJK... he is so much expression *daydreaming 

i watched some of LJK video, his fanmeeting, his dance video, see his instagram (like other fangirls do )  

one of the video is his charity action in indonesia, he is so adorable, lovable... easy going... have a sense of humour

Personally, I love everything in MLSHR, even it's flaws, and as the cast said in press conference this drama is DIFFERENT. I am sure that it will be remembered for long! Ratings hurt, especially because actors worked hard and obviously they didn't expect this to happen.. and I'm not sure that things will improve much with only 4episodes left..  

I think the major problem in SK is that people have so many prejudices, even before drama started many were 100% sure that idol acting will be awful, the writer is not so famous so the script must be bad, main couple will have zero chemistry, etc.. Plus antis who just bash actors with issues not related to their acting. And first episodes were enough for all these people to claim they were correct in their opinions. Now when we are close to ending, I like how the drama flows, it started from superficial but gets deeper and deeper with every episode. Unfortunately, many judge drama on its first impression, so they simply dropped ML without giving a chance.

Another problem is SBS attitude, it is really disgusting! Why promote drama so much just to throw it away like rubbish after start??  They didn't control press, with anti articles everywhere. And baseball, episode leak... Not a single word of apology or explanation! I've read that maybe they bet on Deep Blue Sea, well good luck

Anyway, I'm happy to watch ML and wish all the best to the cast)

Reading the article about Joon Ki this morning, and it literally change my mood the whole day! Wang So is such a well written and WELL PLAYED character in the whole world of MLSHR! It's sad that he blame himself as the lead actor for the bad rating . I have hope that since the other saeguk drama already finished, we will pick up an increase in rating for next week episode.

Made me sad reading about LJG's concern about MLSHR rating.

 

I think LJG should read the comments in this thread. It will sway his heart and maybe will help him to pass easily over the low rating. I don't think there is another thread in SOOMPI which contain so many smart, insightful, deep meaning comments and wonderful analyses. All we can do as international fans is to show our support for this wonderful drama till the end and to support the future projects of LJG.
