The upcoming mystery thriller drama “The Village" claims to be one of the most unique dramas viewers have yet to see? Oh, let it be, let it be. I need diversity in kdramaland. Do something different, something new but with a good script.

'The Village - Achiaria's Secret' To Become A Webtoon

So many k-dramas have been adapted from webtoons with mixed results. Some, like “Boys Over Flowers” and “Misaeng” were huge hits. A few like “Hyde, Jekyll and I” did not do so well. Recent webtoon adaptations include “The Girl Who Sees Smells,” “Fool’s Love,” “Orange Marmalade” and “The Scholar Who Walks The Night.” Soon viewers will be able to see a small screen adaptation of “Cheese in the Trap.”

But making a drama into a webtoon is unheard of. Until now that is. The upcoming SBS drama “The Village: Achiara's Secret" will premiere on October 7. But, according to the Korean media outlet Korea Times, it will also be transformed into a webtoon, with each episode released a week in advance of the drama's episodes.

Since the webtoon will be available as of October 1, viewers will be able to get a jump on drama events. Each new episode will be uploaded at 12 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The 24-episode mystery series stars Moon Geun Young and BtoB’s Yook Sung Jae. Moon Geun Young, 29, plays Kim So Yoon, an English teacher who recently moved to the small crime-free village of Achiaria. The village seems friendly and peaceful. But on her first day at school, she discovers a body that no one can identify. Apparently the village has some secrets. And it’s not free of crime.

But no one seems to know who the mysterious corpse is. Or how she got there.

Yook Sung Jae, 21, plays the policeman Park Woo Jae. He questions Kim So Yoon about the body that she discovered. Kim So Yoon and Park Woo Jae eventually work together to solve the crime and expose the village’s secret.

“The process of how Woo Jae reaches the truth is interesting," said a production crew representative in a statement published by the Korean media outlet Kyung Hyuang.

And he will solve the mystery with some help from Moon's character. Moon Geun Young currently appears in the box office hit, “The Throne,” playing Lady Hyegyeong, wife of Crown Prince Sado. Her last small screen role was in “Goddess of Fire: Jeonji” with co-stars Lee Sang Yoon and Kim Bum.

Yook Sungjae attracted attention because of his onscreen charisma in the teen drama “Who Are You – School 2015?” His successful second lead role in that drama resulted in his landing several endorsement deals. Here's a look at a teaser for the drama. Are you excited about seeing these stars solve the mystery?

Rising rookie Yook Sung-jae of K-pop group BTOB exhibited his potential as an actor in KBS2’s April-June TV drama “Who Are You: School 2015.”

Yook has been snapped up by channel SBS to act the lead role next to actress Moon Geun-young in “The Village: Achiara’s Secret,” a thriller romance to follow in place of hit series “Yong-pal.”

“The Village” will be set in a seemingly average small town which quickly loses its ordinary facade with the unearthing of a mysterious corpse. Actress Moon, who acted the bride of crown prince Sado (Yoo Ah-in) in “The Throne” will play the young English teacher who discovers the body, while Yook will play a zealous police officer newly assigned to the village.

SBS Drama “The Village” Unveils New Still of Yook Sungjae as a Rookie Cop

A still cut was recently released from “The Village” (“The Village: Achiara’s Secret”), showing BTOB‘s Yook Sungjae with his investigative hat on.

In SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama special “The Village,” Yook Sungjae plays the role of Park Woo Jae, a rookie cop. Because of his kind-hearted nature, he runs lots of small errands around the village even though his true desire is to be a cop. With the sudden task at hand of getting to the bottom of a mysterious dead body, he shows off his sharp reasoning ability, and when the forensic results line up with his reasoning, he becomes extremely excited, exhilarated by his job for the first time.

About acting the part of Woo Jae, Yook Sungjae comments, “I’ve become suspicious of everything these days,” and adds, “Woo Jae has wanted to be involved in an investigation for so long. Since the discovery of the body, he is passionately wrapped up in the investigation and is completely focused. In order for me to express Woo Jae’s desire to be a good cop, I’m studying hard by watching lots of different mystery dramas.”

The production crew comments, “Woo Jae is a pure character and he will show passion for his work. When he’s investigating, he will reveal a very sharp side of him, as if he’s been possessed by Sherlock Holmes. Woo Jae is the only person in the village who is excited about the discovery of a dead body. Please tune in to find out what he goes through as a rookie cop to reveal the truth.”

As the followup drama to “Yong Pal,” the first episode of “The Village” will air on October 7.

A missing woman and a dead body in the Village

by girlfriday | October 1, 2015 | 2 Comments

Village23.jpg

I’m glad that Village: Secret of Achiara is premiering next week, because I’m already dying of curiosity about this small town where everybody’s got secrets. A new teaser and character stills are out for the new SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama that stars Moon Geun-young as an outsider who moves to town seeking answers about her own past, and discovers a dead body instead.

In the latest teaser, all signs point to Jang Hee-jin as the likely victim: She’s an art teacher who was one of many mistresses to the town’s wealthiest man, who suddenly disappeared without a trace one day. But because the small town of Achiara is so insular and wary of outsiders, nobody cared or noticed that she vanished… or someone made sure of it.

next weeks will be another new chapter for sbs wed-thursday. Hehehe

i hope this one would be great mystery drama like "god gift 14 days"

i never wish high rating, but i wish the great writing story line for this one.

YSJ have a potential to be the real actor, since he did great job in "who are you". I might not fall in love with him, i just love someone with great acting. Seems like he got attention a lot, and this drama is his chance to be seen to the whole world, since sbs wed-thursday is the best slot for his popularity. A lot drama success in this slot. Hehehe..

The winner's baton from 'Yong Pal' is handed over to 'The Village: Achiara's Secret'

"The Village: Achiara's Secret" is ready to grab the baton from "Yong Pal", the winner of Wednesday & Thursday dramas.

SBS' new Wednesday & Thursday drama, "The Village: Achiara's Secret" is all set to captivate the ears and eyes of their potential viewers while its first episode has been scheduled to air on October 7th.

The rumors around broadcasting companies say, "The drama is so engaging that, if you get to watch just one episode, you will have to watch until the last episode".

The place where the story happens is Achiara, meaning a small pond in original Korean word. The village looks peaceful at a glance but you'll soon notice the place exudes mysterious and extraordinary energy. Everybody in the village is so close that they'd know how puppies were born to a neighborhood mutt even.

However, everything changes little by little when the female lead, Han Soyoon (Moon Geun-young) steps into the village and a corpse is found, which has been buried secretly for a long time. So-yoon, who had no interest in the discovery, became to get closer to the truth through a critical incident. And Park Woo-jae (Yook Seong-jae), who became a police officer after his third attempt to pass the exam, joins So-yoon to uncover the truth. And the secrets of the village start being uncovered one by one.

Despite her long career in acting, this is the first time for Moon Geun-young to star in a crime thriller. She says that, as soon as she took a look at the script, she became so sure "I have to do this". She will challenge transformation in her acting for her role in this drama through elaborate analysis of her character. Yook Seong-jae is also determined to take all the measure and make the best efforts. It is clear that the baton changeover with "Yong Pal" will be as successful as expected.
