Guest liezle
Moviexlcusive forum review posted by tiffany in BYJ's Quilt From the forum of www.moviexclusive. http://moviexclusive.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=928 By daface here's my alternate review To think that I watched 2 horror movies back to back, and 2 Korean movies back to back too. Uncanny, as I ended my previous review on handphones, as I begin this one on the same device. The role of the mobile phone, in the making of and destruction of romantic relationships. Hands up, those of you who have used it to flirt, and keep your hands there if you have an archive of secret messages stashed away in one of the electronic folders of your phone's memory. Password protection, afraid of someone dear chancing upon them, aren't you? Bae Yong-jun (geeks of the world, rejoice!) stars as In-su, a man whose wife met with an accident. Terribly shaken, he sees his spouse in the hospital intensive care unit, in a comatose state. Unknowingly, he meets a woman Seo-young (classic beauty Son Ye-jin) at the ward, whose husband too, was involved in the same accident. Slowly, they discover that their spouses were cheating behind their backs, thereby giving both another blow to their emotions. I'm not really a fan of the bespectacled Bae, but in this film, he has demonstrated his acting prowess somewhat, if not already seen by most fans in his famed TV series Winter Sonata. You see the pain of a man who has dawned upon the knowledge of being betrayed by a spouse, the sadness emoting through his eyes when he reads SMS from the strayed spouse to her lover, and the intolerance viewing the video clip of their tryst in a hotel room. Here's a man who had lived in a web of adulterous deceit. And in the same boat, Son Ye-jin, ever so vulnerable as the clueless housewife Seo-young, who suffers silently while awaiting for her husband to awaken from his coma. On one hand, she hates him for what he has done, but on the other, still dutifully cares for him. And this duality and fighting of emotions for their respective spouses ring through the state of confusion both In-su and Seo-young are in. Sure, they want to seek revenge, which I suppose is a normal human reaction in these circumstances, but how? The other party's spouse happens to be a victim too, and hereby lies the dilemma in the inability to exact sweet justice. Or can they? As they meet up more often, by chance or otherwise, to have someone to talk to, to spend time with, to have meals together, each becomes the pillar of strength for the other, while they seek to unravel the rationale of their spouses' illicit affair. A drunken slip of the tongue became the foreplay, and it's no rocket science that they decide to express their emotions in a physical manner, as promoted in the trailers. Note that I did not mention "love". It doesn't seem so at this point - their body language seemed more like strangers, their movements awkward. It's like for the purpose of releasing pent-up anger and frustration, of getting back and for the sake of getting even. Twisted; weird. Love? No. But Love, probably, did creep in after a while. But you question if this is love out of convenience, of being there for the other person, just like the other is there for you, in dire straits? And in an attempt to steer this controversial romance theme (Two wrongs don't make a right - love borne out of an affair) into more mainstream acceptance, the filmmakers brought in Fate to decide - to have something identifiable between the two leads, for them to make the decision on their plausible future. Hence the title. But the one scene which stood out for me, is the one where the confrontation is held. There isn't a need to ask point blank questions. A side remark in passing, and you'll come to understand whether it's worth burying the hatchet, or not. And it's kinda back to full circle, as the mobile device which destructed one side of the relationship, ended up nurturing another. Such is the electronic era we live and cope in. Guest frances
[Trans] Bae Yong Joon as actor (Part 1) original in korean by jeany almighty 2005.03.08 translated in english by soil What do we remember as the most beautiful in movies or dramas? Surely, nature and actors can be the most beautiful and impressive subjects. It is an actor’s role to convey what the author aims at as an image and a meaning of his work. Some dramas and movies have been lingering at our hearts for a long time, because we sympathized with an actor’s feelings and thoughts. Therefore, actors are ‘flowers’ of movies or dramas, and the REPRESENTATIVE is Bae Yong Joon of ‘Winter Love Song’. Bae Yong Joon is not an entertainer but an actor. An actor creates realistically a character with his body and facial expressions. Bae Yong Joon defined himself as the actor to keep putting an effort. But no doubt he is a born actor in his physical conditions; His height and manly physique harmonize, in a intriguing way, with a tender face. To be closely looked at, his face has no feminine features; he rather has masculine eyes, nose and lips. But the contour of his face is soft, eyes-nose-lips is in harmony, and particularly his smile is pleasing, so that he could be looked as feminine. Some says that Bae Yong Joon looks feminine, Some says that he looks neutral. But I say that they didn’t watch him as much as I did. They looked over only a couple of CF, or several soft and sweet images from ‘Winter Love Song’. Rather than that soft, feminine image, SOFT BUT STRONG, DETERMINED MAN I feel, Bae Yong Joon’s commanding physique looks moderate, dignified, what clothes he puts on and what action he takes. Look when Min Hyung ran with big strides across snow-covered ski resort, to seek for Eu Jin who had got out of the hotel room from Sang Heok. How brisk and reliable he looked! Finally finding her, he held her tight with no words. That impressive scene compels our eyes to fix on his body motions and hand movements. Here he didn’t bend himself toward her just to cuddle her, but he kept standing upright to hug her, taking her upper body toward his chest powerfully, instantly with one hand. holding her around her back neck with the other hand. Who else can, if one is a woman, ...can... push back such a man as hold her tight in that way. His POWERFUL MASCULINE ENERGY was fully emanating! Why was Bae Yong Joon so outstanding in ‘First Love’? It was because his well-built physique was strikingly suited for his role. He demonstrated the TOUGH Chan Woo with a good-looking face and solid muscles. Because there were few talents or actors with such physiques, He stood out more. I fancy a man with pretty bottoms. I love the reversed triangle proportion of broad shoulders and slim bottoms. In’ Hotelier,’ Bae Yong Joon was gorgeous in sophisticated dark suits and was dazzling in palm-sized swimming pants. He already knew how to splendidly perform with his body. Even though it was not that perfect one like the one in the Photo Album of last year, even though he didn’t kick, turning around, He already knew how to have his body to talk; even when standing silently ......HIS BODY COULD TALK. I love his face that is unpredictable. His image with chubby cheeks is completely different from the one of thin cheeks. Though it is undeniable that different hairstyles also help him look different. the images of him from ‘Hotelier’ through ‘Winter Love Song’ to ‘Scandal’ are completely different. His face with glasses and without them throws absolutely different impressions.. I like his face without glasses on, though. Even when he takes off his glasses, he still gets various images; sometimes sharp and defiant, sometimes cold and intellectual, sometimes lonely and solitary, or sometimes serious and imposing. The glasses on his nose also whisper a lot of talks; no one looks as good as he with glasses on. Particularly his killing smile… kills me.... Anyhow, he can digest various kinds of characters By his VARIOUS FACIAL IMAGES. When Bae Yong Joon threw his warm bright smile in ‘Winter Love Song,’ a lot of women were mesmerized. His smile gives them a pleasure of life. Now his smile becomes his trademark. I like his smile, too; a broad smile, a quite smile, a shy smile…. How various smiles he has and how pretty all of them are! But I like his face with no feeling and no expression, too. His pouting face is really cute. Besides, cynical face, icy-cold face, intriguing face, mischievous face, heart-broken face, sulky face, angry face….. so many facial expressions he has. It’s hard to point out which expression is best. His face to deliver all sorts of feelings eloquently speaks That he is a REAL ACTOR. We can’t deny that when we think about him, what flashes first upon us is his smile. But among his facial expressions, the highlight is the expression of his eyes; the strength and weakness of the glitter of eyes, clear eyes, mischievous or put-on innocent eyes, adoring eyes… So expressive his eyes are; timing of closing eyes, timing of opening, and timing of blinking….; angle of looking-up, managing of gaze…; his eye-acting is excellent. TEAR acting also can’t be missing; moistened eyes, eyes moving to tears, eyes full with tears, one or two drops of tears sliding on cheeks, uncontrollable shower of tears… In one of the best scene in ‘Winter Love Song,’ Min Hyung had Eu Jin to get in the sickroom of Sang Heok. On having a hunch that she won’t come back to him, his eyes became tearful with desperate love. How could Eu Jin leave him behind to go back to Sang Heok, turning back on such a gaze? Bae Yong Joon’s eye acting doesn’t require a lot of dialogues, And makes it not necessary to shout dialogues. UNDER HIS EYE ACTING, DIALOGUES SIMPLY ASSIST. ‘Winter Love Song’ is like an all-items present set full with candies, biskits, and chololates which we were given on Chu Seok (Korean Thanksgiving Day) or on Christmas in the past. That drama is full of all sorts of his marvelous expressions so that we may have a pleasant trouble which expression we will pick up; his cold chilly face ridiculing Eu Jin, when she mistook him as Joon Sang, his elated face with surprise, saying “ maybe I'm a genius!” (when he found himself can play piano, after saying that he couldn’t do.) his momentary changing face (showing the stream of his thought), when he doubted his past and asked “you mean Can’t I remember the past of mine?”; In all these expressions, Bae Yong Joon doesn't seek for exaggerations, big expressions. Rather he prefers delicate expressions; by slightly moving his brow or lips, or speaking with eyes, He speaks character’s thoughts or feelings by small nodding, hand gestures, or body jestures. So persons who like a big, splendid action may overlook his delicate expression. They, however, should know that it is really hard to act by slow, small expressions.. To be in agony doesn’t necessarily mean to shout and cry loudly. The one who has had his grief buried in his heart knows it; his acting is like that. Under the good name of frankness, contemporary people tend to spit coarse language so easily and get people hurt. They may look on his a bit slow, careful, and considerate language in deep tone as hypocritical. It’s a pity that they can’t read and communicate with what Bae Yong Joon's behavior and acting are delivering.

Guest frances
[Trans] Bae Yong Joon as Actor (Part 2) original in korean by jeany almighty 2005.03.08 translated in english by soil Jung Hwa- unni said she fancies a man with a nice voice. She’s just like me. ^^::: (Yes, yes I know, I said last time I fall for a man with great bottoms, ) I am sensitive to not only other’s voice but also my voice, too. When nice smooth voice is once coming out from my throat, I am pleased. I love listening to music regardless of its genre. But I love especially aria or western classic songs: and I love songs of our traditional formal palace music the most. When I listen to that vocal music, I agree that human’s voice is the best one among all musical instruments. Bae Yong Joon’s way of acting out different types of voice is great. I think that the cream of his acting is eye and voice acting. Particulally in ‘Winter Love Song’ his voice acting was more characteristic than ever. Basically his voice is great. It is not too low, but stable deep voice with good resonance. Sometimes it gets a hint of nasal sound, having charms to make our heart flutter Besides, he has clear and refreshing voice, swallowing voice, ringing voice, and straightforward powerful voice. Sometimes he adds delicate vibration, sometimes he makes a bit ascending tone to leave lingering sound, He can command his voice to convey various feelings and emotions like sweetness, friendliness, joyfulness, loneliness, and coldness. Bae Yong Joon is accurate in delivering lines; His diction is clear. And he can expose well the personality and feelings by controlling his voice color, pitch and tone. Above all he knows how to jump on the line of an opposite player, how to make a pause in his lines, with feelings expressing. He has a wide range of delicate voices so that I can’t list up all. ‘Winter Love Song’ is a good text that displays how delicate and marvelous his voice acting is. My favorite scene in ‘WLS’ is: Riding gondola, they reach a mountain villa….. They have to stay up there all night….. Eu Jin takes off his glasses. ‘When Min Hyung wakes up from a shallow sleep, look how his eyes are! He looks at Eu Jin with a bit blood-shot and unclear loosened eyes, raising his heavy eyelid, as if he wakes up from a real sleep With Eu Jin getting baffled, taking back his glasses. Min Hyung openly approaches to her as if he were determined to do something. And then …… Eu Jin: …. Why did you do this? Min Hyung: Because I love you……..I……I love you.” (DangSinEol SanRangHaNiGga…. NaeGa……NaeGa DanSinEol SaRangHaNiGga) Of course, this short and direct line is touching enough. Here, his tantalizing expression is exellent. His action is also perfect. But what makes this scene the best is his voice acting. An instant he stops my breath and empties my head white. He doesn’t simply let out the words ; “because I love you”. Grasping the end of her line, he explodes it at once. It is so powerful, and overwhelming not only to her but to me and to a lot of people Probably this is the only line that he roars. And then two terms of pause follow. It’s really incredible. These pauses are not too short, or not too long, and evoke a tremendously deep emotion. He lowers his voice in the first “I” (NaeGa) deep down, and then seriously…….ardently….. pulls out a voice -the second “I love you” (NaeGa DangSin Eol SaRangHaNiGga )- from his chest by moderating a pitch. He speaks “NaeGa DangSinEol” without stopping, unnoticibaly raising the last syllable ‘Eol’ to make the feeling of love alive. In the last “SaRangHaNiGga”, he rolls the sound of “SaRang”(love) slightly inside his mouth, and then he doesn’t make a clear pronunciation “HaNiGga” to the end; he reduces a strength in his voice and speaks explosively the sound of “HaNiGga” as if he throws out the sound from his mouth. He passes on the wave of a sound to the heart of an opposite player. by controlling the strength and weakness, the high and low pitch, the resonance, and distribution of pausing intervals even in one line. His lines are serious, but his voice acting which is tapping my ears sounds like a music tapping my heart. I enjoy his voice. If you had a chance to listen to his voice without watching the TV monitor, you could realize that his voice acting is excellent. Here, we, Koreans, are much luckier than the ones of other languages, because we can be delivered all the meanings, feelings, and emotions by his actual voice. I am happy to have scenes where I can enjoy his voice acting, without any influence of other images like actions, expressions, and costumes. He, as Joon Sang, leaves from hotel in the morning, leaving her behind, because he can’t remember his own past. His memo is impressive, and beautiful; Even when I only read it, it is moving enough. Eu Jin-ah~~~ Did I call Eu Jin ssi like this ? Eu Jin-ah~~~~! Eu Jin-ah~~~~~! Eu Jin-ah~~~~~~! But I can’t remember anything. Gang Joon Sang that Eu Jin ssi misses so much is me and at a same time not me. If I lost my memory, even though I am Gang Joon Sang. I am none but an empty name. Sorry, and thank you for your being with me at a time I lost, with all my heart~~~ with all my heart~~~ Listen to this memo through his voice once more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s beyond my description. I can’t put that thorough sadness, that feelings, and that emotions into words …. I can only place exclamation marks repeatedly. In a trip with Eu Jin to the sea “Our first sea, ……. (and our last sea)” Before leaving for U.S.A. for his operation. he comes to Sang Heok to say good bye and says; “I won’t come back again.” His lonely vibration remains in my heart and I am still heartbroken with the sadness and anquish of Joon Sang. Imagination is interesting. On reading a novel or a drama, we can imagine about scenes and characters. Reading through letters we can picture graphically inside our heads, Among works of famous Samuel Becket, there are several radio scripts. Those lettered scripts lead me to experience an audio effects. Sound! Sometimes imagination aroused by hearing sound is bigger than one by seeing something Before TV sets became common, when I was a small child, I often listened to ‘hometowns of folk tales’ (ghost stories) on radio. What a panic and a shudder! Compared to the same drama on TV, It gave us surely several times bigger effects. Our imagination makes it possible to transform audio or video images into image of other senses and amplify the impressions much more. I heard from a recent article that they will produce a radio drama ‘WLS’ in Japan. To be sure, the capability of radio actors will lead the drama. It will probably arouse another emotions from the radio audience, but to the ones who are already familiar with the image of TV Drama ‘WLS,’ it will remind the face and motions of Bae Yong Joon. Once an image is imprinted in our brain, it can never be easily removed. If the imagination of audience is confined in only Bae Yong Joon like this, I wonder if it will be a fortune or a misfortune for them Actor Bae Yong Joon has a lot of merits. Probably some of them he was born to have, some of them he got by the result of endless efforts I enjoy and feel happy and proud what he has achieved for the past 10 years. If I anticipated that he would show us his progressions also in the future as he did until now , I would put him too heavy burden on his shoulders, wouldn’t I?
