Unprecedented team back with Six Flying Dragons

I posted about the drama Chaebol’s Daughter possibly getting the post-Heard It Through the Grapevine timeslot on SBS, but looks like they’ll have to wait a little longer to air, because a different drama has secured that slot. Instead of a present-day drama about a rich woman wanting to find someone to love her for herself, SBS will air Six Flying Dragons, a sageuk series that reunites the writing team of hit dramas Tree With Deep Roots and Queen Seon-deok, Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-yeon. They’ll reteam with PD Shin Kyung-soo, who worked with them on Tree.

Six Flying Dragons is set in the early years of the Joseon dynasty and is centered around Yi Bang-won, its third king (posthumously known as King Taejong) and a son of Joseon’s founder Yi Seong-gye (King Taejo). The drama’s description merely states that it will explore the “stories of ambition and success among six personages,” but it’s safe to suppose that it refers to Taejo’s six sons, among whom there was much jockeying for power and bloodshed. (Particularly as dragons are classic king symbology.) The drama won’t be an official prequel to Tree, but I’ve seen that term bandied about loosely, as it comes from the same writers and is set one king prior to Tree’s Sejong (Taejong was his father). There will also reportedly be character overlap with Tree (though the characters will be much younger in Dragons, of course).

Another past casting news

-------------

YOO AH IN COURTED TO PLAY IN “SIX FLYING DRAGONS” AS KING TAEJONG

casting_feature.jpg

So is this coming true, for real? *holds breath*

According to the news released on April 30, Yoo Ah In has been courted by SBS, to play on their upcoming sageuk drama “Yuglyongi Naleusya” (육룡이 나르샤 / Yukrongi Nareusya / Six Flying Dragons / Six Dragons In The Day / The Six Dragons’ Soar). He is offered to take on the role of Prince Lee Bang Won, the future King Taejong, father of King Sejong The Great.

Yoo Ah In’s agency stated, “Yoo Ah In is positively considering the proposal. However, his historical movie Sado (The Throne) will release at the same time with the drama’s broadcasting schedule. This might cause potential conflicts on his movie as well as his work schedule. Therefore, we need a little more time before confirming his appearance in the drama.”

Yugiyongi Naleusya or Six Flying Dragons is an adaptation from a novel with the same title. This drama is produced to commemorate the 25th anniversary of SBS drama program.

Six Flying Dragons depicts a story of the early establishment of the new Joseon dynasty that was built by King Tae Jo and Prime Minister Jung Do Jeon. Six prominent figures in that turbulence period will be the center of the story. Prince Lee Bang Won (also written as Yi Bang Won) is the fifth son of King Tae Jo who had a big ambition to turn Joseon to an absolute monarchy, which was against Jong Do Jeon’s ideology. Just like many newborn dynasties in the world, bloodshed conflicts to gain royal power occurred most of the times among the royal families.

Duo writers Kim Young Hyeon and Park Sang Yeon, who are famous with hit dramas such as Queen Seondeok and Deep Rooted Tree, take charge in adapting the novel to a screenplay. The drama will be helmed by PD Shin Kyung Soo (Three DaysI Am Legend).

If Yoo Ah In takes this drama, it will be his comeback to the small screen after more than a year. His last drama Secret Love Affair which aired during March to May 2014, received rave reviews from viewers and critics.

Six Flying Dragons‘ first shooting will begin in May or June after the production finishes casting, and is expected to start broadcasting in September or October.

Personally, I’m not too fond of the way SBS handling sageuk, especially with the live shooting and story changing for the sake of ratings. Having watched a masterpiece likeSecret Love Affair and then jumping to a might be sageuk fails (case in point: Jang Ok Jung), is my biggest concern at the moment. However, I do want to see Yoo Ah In once again on my screen before he goes away for the two years hiatus.

Will Master Sik receive a drama proposal and come back to our small screen before enlistment? Let’s cross our fingers!

Am really excited and anticipating this drama... even though the thought of it being 50 episodes is currently very daunting. Seeing it as a prequel to the incomparable Tree with Deep Roots, boasting the same scriptwriters and PD... and now with what appears to be a strong cast (am not familiar with their works, but I am very hopeful since their casting has been so well received)... it has every element I can think of to deliver yet another amazing drama. I hold extremely high hopes for it, and pray hard that it does not disappoint.

@kaeruchan It's taking shape! Can't wait!

Yes...with this formation (writers, cast, PD), I think this drama is the most promising sageuk this year. Really can't wait!

YOO AH IN CONFIRMS FOR NEW DRAMA “SIX FLYING DRAGONS”, MORE CASTS ADDED

jacknjillfeature.jpg

Local news outlet reported on Tuesday, May 12, that Yoo Ah In has been confirmed for the new SBS sageuk epic “Six Flying Dragons” (working title).

Isplus cites a related source at SBS that Yoo Ah In, Kim Myung Min, Cheon Ho Jinand Baek Jin Hee have confirmed to play as the four prominent characters in upcoming series Six Flying Dragons.

As previously reported in our website here, Yoo Ah In is courted by SBS to take on the role of Prince Lee Bang Won (or Yi Bang Won). Lee Bang Won is King Taejo’s ambitious son who became the nation’s third king, King Taejong, father of King Sejong The Great. Meanwhile, Kim Myung Min (The King of Dramas, Detective K: Secret of The Lost Island) is cast as Jung Do Jeon who is credited with creating the Joseon political framework.

Six Flying Dragons centers around the court of King Taejong (Yi Bang Won/Yoo Ah In), whose father King Taejo was an early monarch of the Joseon dynasty and was assisted by political Jeong Do Jeon (Kim Myung Min). King Taejong clashes ideologically and politically with Jung Do Jeon, the man instrumental in helping his father establish the Joseon nation, and the drama follows the conflict as they attempt to consolidate their power and the state of the fledgling nation.

Additional casts line up with famous names~

Senior actor Cheon Ho Jin (Doctor Stranger, House of Bluebird, The Treacherous), who plays as Yoo Ah In’s father in the 2007 movie Shims Family (Skeletons In The Closet), will be back reuniting with Yoo Ah In as his father again or King Taejo, the founder and the first king of the Joseon Dynasty.

Baek Jin Hee (Empress Ki, Triangle) gets the leading lady and her character will be having a love line with Yoo Ah In’s male lead.

Byun Yo Han (Misaeng, Socialphobia) is up to play a skilled swordsman, the bodyguard to Jung Do Jeon and the older brother to the heroine (Baek Jin Hee).

Additionally, Yoon Kyun Sang (Gap Dong, Pinocchio) is still said to be in final talks. He’s casting as Muhyul, King Daemusin of Gorguyeo, the grandson of Jumong, which was hundred years earlier than the early Joseon dynasty. Hmm….that’s rather confusing. Are we gonna track back to hundred years before we can see Master Sik in hanbok? Or maybe Muhyul will appear only in dreams and flashbacks?

Also in talks for this drama is Jung Yumi (Rooftop Prince, Maids), who is considering an offer as the second female lead.

Six Flying Dragons starts filming next month in June for a September air date.

Note: I’m not sure whether this news is legit or not since this only came from one source. In addition, a 50-episodes of sageuk seems like a stretch, and it worries me when the lead role is about to go to the military service soon.

All I can say is: Fighting and GOOD LUCK, Master Sik!

------------------------------

Now, I also began to wonder. 50 episodes sageuk looks like too heavy for the-soon-to-be-soldier Yoo Ah In. But I hope this news is valid and everything will be okay.

Six Flying Dragons confirms leads, adds Yoon Kyun-sang

All systems are a go for Six Flying Dragons, the new SBS sageuk that now officially stars Yoo Ah-in (Secret Love Affair) and Kim Myung-min (A New Leaf) in an epic political struggle over the future of the newly founded Joseon nation. There’s going to be a lot of acting in this drama, but I don’t think I’d have it any other way; if political intrigue is the name of the game, you really need two intense leads to anchor it.

So incredibly excited for this drama. The plot seems amazing, and it's backed by a stellar production team and PD, plus the confirmed cast is made up of actors and actresses with much acting prowess. I don't know how I can wait for September.
@valsava  It's nice to see you here again :) it seems so long since P&P ended. On a side note, SFD is following right after Chaebol's Daughter, so technically it's not put on the backburner.

Tree With Deep Roots is my all-time favourite K-sageuk, and to have the team back for another epic outing is getting me terribly excited.

Having Kim Myung-min and Yoo Ah-in on board is just icing on the cake. I'm more familiar with KMM's works, his method acting and ability to completely immerse himself in roles, but I was equally impressed with YAI's acting in Jang Ok-jung (despite  its weak second half).

On a side note: Yoo Ah-in (SFD) was always meant to be Song Joong-ki's father (TWDR). :P

Oh how I miss the LOL button. But this cracked me up. This is the closest thing we'll ever get to a YAI-SJK reunion :D

@Lids From experience, I know better than to have expectations with any kdrama but this one can be an exception. I have so much faith in every single name that's been confirmed that I will allow myself to have high hopes. These actors have yet to disappoint me and I don't think they will any time soon (or ever). I think we're good
