‘Empire of Lust’ depicts a story of bloody ambition during the Joseon Dynasty. And it’s the first historical screen job of Shin Ha Kyun. The actor debuted with ‘The Happenings’ in 1998 and built an amazing filmography since then: ‘Joint Security Area’, ‘Sympathy for Mister Vengeance’, ‘Save The Green Planet’, ‘Welcome to Dongmakgol’, ‘Thirst’, ‘The Front Line’, or more recently ‘Big Match’, Shin played various strong characters but never gave any try to historical movies.

His amazing acting earned him the nickname of ‘Ha Kyun God’ (it’s a play on words with his family name as ‘Shin’ means ‘God’ in Korean) and cinema lovers and mass public are more than excited with the news of one of the nation’s top star finally embodying Korean History with ‘Empire of Lust’. In the upcoming movie (March), Shin plays Kim Min Jae, a brilliant admiral who distinguished himself in a war while protecting the borders of the recently established Joseon Empire from external threat. He is a really cold character who never really wanted anything yet finally discover something – or someone – that generates protective feelings from his supposedly frozen heart.

‘Empire of Lust’ may be the actor’s first war movie, he practiced and perfectly digested sword fighting and, with his signature dramatic yet modern interpretation of love, he will take us to a new world where hatred, ambitions and love try to survive altogether.

Meanwhile, ‘Empire of Lust’ is set to hit Korean movie theaters in March and will star Shin Ha Kyun, Jang Hyuk or Kang Ha Neul. (photos by Two Rabbit)
