‘Wish’ snags three wins at Blue Dragon Film Awards

The 34th annual Blue Dragon Film Awards on Friday night recognized some of the film industry’s best including the top winner this year, the intensely dramatic “Wish.”

Directed by Lee Joon-ik and starring Sol Kyung-gu and Uhm Ji-won, the film is based on the true story of an 8-year-old rape victim known to the public as “Na-young.” Although “Wish” caused controversy when it was released earlier last month because the story revolves around real-life events, the film took home the Best Film award along with Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress for Ra Mi-ran.

Director Bong Jun-ho was named as this year’s Best Director for his English-language debut film “Snowpiercer.” The sci-fi thriller was an international collaboration starring local talent Song Kang-ho alongside Hollywood actors Chris Evans and Ed Harris, and English actors John Hurt and Tilda Swinton. “Snowpiecer” has already taken home the Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography awards at this year’s 33rd Korean Film Critics Association Awards.

Bong’s movie was sold to 167 countries even before its world premiere in August, a first for a film by a Korean director. “Snowpiercer” has opened in 300 theaters in France and is expected to make its Hollywood debut sometime next year.

Other notable winners at this year’s Blue Dragon Film Awards include Hwang Jung-min for Best Leading Actor, Han Hyo-joo for Best Leading Actress and Lee Jung-jae for Best Supporting Actor.

Lee Jung Jae wins 'Best Supporting Actor'

Lee Jung Jae garnered 'Best Supporting Actor' at 'The 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards'.

On November 22nd, 'The 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards' was held at Kyung Hee University's Hall of Peace, and Lee Jung Jae garnered 'Best Supporting Actor'.

His management agency said, "Not only did he add two more major hits(The New World, The Face) to his filmography, he also appealed his name to the public once again."

Lee Jung Jae casted in 'The New World' as a detective named 'Lee Ja Sung', and received a great number of praises for his acting.

He casted in 'The Face' as King Sejo of Chosun, and even though he made his first appearance at a relatively later part of the film, he showed overflowing charisma.

After receiving the award, Lee Jung Jae said, "First of all, I'd like to express thanks from the bottom of my hear for director Han Jae Lim, actors, staffs, and the audience."

Meanwhile, Lee Jung Jae is currently shooting a new film called 'Big Match'.

Lee Jung Jae told that he would cast in a film that Jung Woo Sung directs just for 10,000 KRW.

On November 22nd, Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung attended 'The 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards', and the two got up on stage to announce winners of 'Best New Actor' and 'Best New Actress'.

Lee Jung Jae said, "I saw many beautiful actresses while entering here, and I'm up here on stage with Jung Woo Sung," and Jung Woo Sung said, "I did not expect to be with you up here either."

Lee Jung Jae said, "I heard you are interested in film directing these days. Am I every gonna get a chance to be in your film?"

Jung Woo Sung said, "Don't you remember getting 10,000 KRW as your guarantee when we had a drink," and Lee Jung Jae explained, "Jung Woo Sung has a 10,000 KRW bill with my signature on, and it somehow became my guarantee."

Meanwhile, 21 different films were nominated during 'The 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards'.

On November 22, actress Kim Hye-soo and actor Yoo Joon-sang attended 'The 34th Blue Dragon Awards' held at Grand Peace Palace of Kyung Hee University, Seoul.

The award was hosted by Kim Hye-soo and Yoo Joon-sang. Singer Lee Juck, miss A and In Soon-yi performed in their stages to celebrate the event.

Meanwhile, actor Hwang Jung-min of the film 'New World' won 'The Best Actor Awards' while Han Hyo-joo of the film 'Cold Eyes' won 'The Best Actress Awards'.
