The deadly game that everyone's been waiting for is coming back with familiar faces and fresh, new players.

Netflix unveiled early Sunday the cast members for the second season of its hit South Korean survival drama "Squid Game."

On the social media pages of Netflix K-content, the streaming giant announced that Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-jun, who were part of the main cast in the first season, will return to the series.

"Squid Game" revolves around hundreds of misfits and criminals who compete for cash in deadly versions of children's games.

In the first season, Lee plays a gambling addict who participates in the games while Wi portrays a police officer who sneaks into the games to look for his missing brother.

Lee Byung-hun and Gong Yoo, who had guest roles in the first season, are set to reappear on the show.

The new cast members, meanwhile, include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun.

Yim debuted as a member of the now-inactive K-pop group ZE:A before pursuing acting. He is best known for starring in the sports romance drama "Run On" and thriller film "Unlocked."

Kang is known for dramas such as "The Heirs" and "When the Camellia Blooms," while Park was among the antagonists in the revenge series "The Glory."

Yang is a hip-hop artist and actor, whose most recent projects include the youth drama "Cheer Up" and action film "Yaksha: Ruthless Operations."

Netflix did not immediately provide details on the new cast members' roles.

"Squid Game" made history as the first non-English-language drama series to become nominated for top drama at the 2022 Emmys, television's equivalent of the Oscars.

It took home six Emmys, including best drama actor for Lee Jung-jae, best guest drama actress for Lee Yu-mi, best directing and three other technical category awards.

*** With this cast lineup of "Squid Game", the production budget for Season 2 is also expected to increase significantly. The budget for Season 1 was said to be approximately 21 million dollars, but the production cost of Season 2 is already estimated to be up to 100 million, nearly five times more than the previous drama. Since more money is invested in the production, it is understandable that the production team would recruit actors with higher recognition. According to the director's statements, the upcoming season of “Squid Game” will not only showcase survival games like Season 1 but also expand the worldview by exploring the stories of the characters surrounding the survival game. In order to portray deep stories, more star actors with good acting skills are needed, and that’s why Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, Wi Ha Joon, and Yang Dong Geun were cast. The production team aims to push ahead with the production in earnest and release it in 2024.   :kaching1:

*** I'm glad that Kang Ha Neul is part of "Squid Game" but, just wondering why no female stars were announced for S2. Although there could be more to come, I just thought that one of the most important announcement should include female stars. But, not a single woman in the main cast of "Squid Game 2nd season - LOL...Well, more cast will surely be

announced soon.

*** Although, I don’t yet know anything about Kang Ha Neul's character in "Squid Game", I'm happy that he will be co-starring in this second season. With the main cast now finalized, filming for the sequel is set to take place this year. I am excited because of the cast. Most of them are leading actors in their own right. On the other hand, I anticipate most if these characters to die. It's just about the order of their deaths.   :kaching3:

*** The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said at a press conference held at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in Jongno-gu, Seoul on July 17th that they are investigating 462 movies from 2019 to this year, believing that the number of audiences was manipulated. One of the movies suspected of manipulating the number of audiences are "Emergency Declaration" and  “Waiting for Rain”.  They added, “A total of 6 companies, including 3 multiplexes and 3 movie distributors, were searched and seized on June 13th. We are investigating those involved. However, it is too early to comment on specific manipulations.“  On June 13th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption Public Crime Investigation Unit conducted a search and seizure of the multiplexes CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox and the distributors Lotte Entertainment, Showbox, Kidari Studio on charges of obstruction of business. Together, these movie theaters and distributors are accused of interfering with the work of the Korean Film Council (hereinafter referred to as KOFIC), such as manipulating box office rankings by inflating the number of audiences. “Waiting for Rain”, which was distributed by Kidari Studio, was suspected of counting the number of audiences in the early morning hours, when it was not even screened in theaters.  :heart4:
