tvN drama “Nine: Nine Times Time Travel” will be made remade into an American drama with actress Yunjin Kim acting as Executive Producer. 

CJ E&M announced that “Nine” has been picked up by Fake Empire Productions, the company behind hit American television series such as “Gossip Girl,” “Carrie Dairies,” and “Chuck,” for the major network channel ABC. The script for the pilot is currently in process, and the pilot could air as early as May of next year.

Director Choi Jin Hee of CJ E&M said in a statement, “Traditionally, American dramas rarely make remakes from other countries, except England. After the success of ‘Homeland’,a remake of an Israel drama, the idea of remaking foreign dramas is becoming more popular. ‘Nine’ received many love calls from American producers.”

Actress Yunjin Kim of the American television shows “Lost” and “Mistresses” will play a big role in the production of the remake. The actress will use her know how and influence to introduce the drama to American audiences. The actress said, “As an actress and someone who enjoys Korean dramas, I am excited to introduce the Korean drama style. I plan to introduce other Korean entertainment content after ‘Nine’ to American audiences.” 

The show will focus on a man who has nine magical sticks that allow him to travel to 20 years in the past, where he tries to prevent a murder that destroyed his family.

'NINE', which was broadcasted on channel tvN back in March, sold its format to the US, and the drama will be produced once again in America. Many dramas were sold to overseas in the past, but it is the first time to sell a drama's format to America.

It is said that the drama will be produced by Fake Empire Entertainment, and it will be broadcasted through channel ABC.

Writers are currently working on the scenario, it is predicted that the first shooting will take place around early 2014, and it will premiere in some time around May, 2014.

This news is more meaningful, because the production agency in America first offered the contract.

An official of CJ E&M's Drama Department said, "Many American dramas brought formats from England. However, drama producers of America are recently turning their views to many other countries."

She went on, "We are considering this achievement very significantly. CJ E&M have been putting a lot of efforts for better and much more unique dramas. We are very proud that we sold a Korean drama's format to America, because it clearly shows how much Korean dramas got better."

It is said that actress Kim Yoon Jin made a big contribution in bringing the contract out. Kim Yoon Jin, who is continuing an unprecedented career in America, did a lot of work to introduce Korean contents in America.

Kim Yoon Jin will be participating in the drama as one of the producers, and she said, "I enjoyed the drama very much myself, and I am very glad that the format of 'NINE' was sold to America. I hope the drama will make a great in success in America as well. I am also working on another drama sales, and I will keep doing my best to introduce more and more contents from Korea to America."

Writer Song Jae Jung, who wrote 'NINE', said, "I am very excited that 'NINE' will be becoming the first Korean drama to be broadcasted on America's public channel. I hope staffs in America will bring the drama up to another level."

For the first time ever, a Korean drama remake is awaiting broadcast in the US

In a press release on October 27, tvN announced “Nine is waiting to be broadcasted as a US remake for the first time for a Korean drama.”

The announcement continued “Anticipation is on the rise as this could be an opportunity for K-dramas to rise in status.”

Nine was picked up by Fake Empire Entertainment which produced popular shows such as Gossip Girl, The OC. and The Carrie Diaries It’s been revealed that ABC is a strong candidate as the network for broadcast.

As of now the pilot episode for Nine is being created, and if things run smoothly it will be revealed sometime in May at the LA Screening.

“A lot of US remake dramas were from England but as Homeland, a drama originally from Israel has been attracting attention for its US remake, US drama companies are looking at other countries’ productions as well” said Choi Jin Hee, the executive director of the CJ E&M Drama Department “Nine was made possible due to the strong will of the US production company.”

“It’s very encouraging to know that this is the first Korean drama to be sold in the US CJ E&M has always been trying to challenge itself in creating fresh new stories and raising the bar on the overall perfection of the production. We’re proud that with Nine, we are making K-dramas rise in status Right now, the drama is in the process of making the pilot script We’ll be working hard until the director and actors are casted and the drama airs in US.”

MeanwhileNine is fantasy drama where a man is given the ability to revisit his 20-year old self in the past.

Nine received a lot of attention as it became a nominee for Best Scripted Formats at the C21 Format Awards which was held in Cannes from October 7 to 11.

i just crashed this drama in 3dys n my eyes still hurt fr staring at my computer screen for so long.

i hv heard good reviews of nine m wanted to watch it when i hv time,but since there wasnt much fanfare abt it,i didnt remember it till e news of e remake into a pilot for usa came about.

the plot is truely amazing.altho the 1st two ep was bleah,but the pace picked up when he time travel more.at one point in the middle of e drama i was wondering hw it will stretch till ep 20 but it really does hv enuf materials to do so.

kudos to e Inhyun's team for churning out anothr great drama.altho i do see the similarities beside the time travelling premise:

1) revenge element pertaining to family

2) after meddling w e past,things doesnt work out

3)hero getting injured and reaching near death

4)the female lead as the cute girl

5)the excessive use of the mobile phone n telephone booth

still,i am happy with the ride,with all e unexpected twist in e story.

however i wasnt v happy w e ending,i dont knw,after crying n laughing with e characters n being fully immersed in their life,e ending seems abit cold.

altho i accept that it is quite a logical ending.becos there are two parallel tracks n so they cannot coexist all e time.

haha this drama is really one that a review cant be written to reveal too much incase others hv not seen e drama.

yes it deserves more attention n i will remember it as one of e best korean drama!

This drama is so good it hurts...literally.  Hah I watched it all in two days and it was totally worth it--swollen eyes be darned.  I see there are a few of you who have also experienced it with the drama.  I finally decided to watch it after reading about the potential of an American adaptation.  I am a sucker for time traveling stories, but this one really surpassed my expectations.  Everything was wonderful, from the cinematography to the actors to the perplex plot.  At the moment I cannot remember anyone hotter than LJW. Haha.  It would have been fun to have dissected this beast of a drama while it was airing but better late than never.  I'm going to let myself believe that SW and MY lived happily ever after in the same timeline.  The end.

About the ending, in Nine's special ep, Song Jae Jung, our script writer, said that Nine's ending is a happy ending!! Sun Woo cannot avoid the death as it's a punishment for changing others' fate on his own initiative. However, little Sun Woo grew up and by his will, the will to save himself, he also saved older SunWoo. (Remember that every action of young SW made older SW). Thus SW, who supposed to die in 1993, was restored to life.
