'Choosing a character entails big responsibility' Shin Se-kyung to return in TV drama ‘Black Knight' in Dec.   By Kim Jae-heun (korean times)   Actress Shin Se-kyung will return to the small screen in the hotly anticipated TV series "Black Knight" on KBS2 in December, starring alongside Kim Rae-won and Seo Ji-hye. In her previous appearances, Shin has often taken the role of a Cinderella girl, who strives hard to make her way in life. Her new character Jung Hae-ra in "Black Knight" is not much different. Jung is a travel agency employee who struggles financially, but tries to make the best of her circumstances. Shin said a character's wealthy background cannot be the standard for her to pick a role. "Just looking at people around me, I don't separate friends by how bright or dark they are, or how wealthy or poor they are. It's the same when I am choosing my role," said Shin during an interview with The Korea Times at cafe in Jongno, Seoul, last week. Kim Rae Won, Shin Se Kyung, And Seo Ji Hye’s New Drama Holds First Script Reading

On October 24, the upcoming drama “Black Knight” (working title) held its first script read-through.

Present at the reading was screenwriter Kim In Young, producing director Han Sang Woo, and the entire cast, including principal actors Kim Rae Won, Shin Se Kyung, Seo Ji Hye, Jang Mi Hee, Shin So Yul, and Kim Seol Jin.

Before the reading began, writer Kim In Young said, “‘Black Knight’ is a story I first came up with in 2007. It feels strange to see the story come to light 10 years later.” PD Han Sang Woo added, “I hope this can become a project where we all come together. The results are important, but I hope the process can be beautiful as well.”

"Black Knight" Shin Se-kyung's Hard Life

The first episode of the new KBS 2TV drama "Black Knight" depicted Jeong Hae-ra's (Shin Se-kyung's) difficult life. Hae-ra is a woman with a lot of hardship in her life: her boyfriend scammed her of her moneyl she is bullied by her superiors, and there is debt in her name that she does not know about.

Her luck plummeted once her parents died, leaving her impoverished. She found work at a travel agency where she is slapped by those higher in rank. The man who was supposed to be her rock turned out to be a conman who uses women for money. He had lied that he was a prosecutor because he felt badly for her.

What made Hae-ra break was that her aunt had taken the deposit for the house, a home that she'd gotten a loan to buy. The dilapidated home was on preserved land that people were forbidden to inhabit.

All of these hardships combined made her wish for death. A thought from her childhood about a cashmere coat her parents had given her gave her a little hope. Perhaps if she wore it she could go back to how things had once been. She visited a tailor shop and met Sharon (Seo Ji-hye) who had been living there for two hundred years.

At the end of the episode, Hae-ra's life finally changed.
