Fan alert! Actor Lee Jong Suk of I Hear Your Voice has been diagnosed with having contracted H1N1, also known as the swine flue. It will take at least one week for him to recover, according to media reports.

Lee Jong Suk is suspected to have contracted H1N1 in China because he was recently in Shanghai on Feb. 14th for a fan meet on Valentine's Day. He became unwell on Feb 18th and went to a hospital in Gangnam, Seoul, where he was diagnosed with H1N1. His agency has confirmed that he is currently under treatment and will require at least one week to recover, but says he is recuperating at home.

Although he is still under observation, his condition should not affect the new drama, Doctor Stranger, that he is scheduled to star in. The show is slated to broadcast starting in April.

Jin Se-yeon joins Lee Jong-seok in Doctor Strangerby girlfriday | February 20, 2014 | 1 Comment

Confirmations are in for Jin Se-yeon (Age of Feeling), who was offered the lead in SBS’s spring Monday-Tuesday drama Doctor Stranger opposite Lee Jong-seok. She’s signed on to play the heroine (and her doppelganger, naturally), which means the show finally has a leading foursome secured. The casting isn’t terribly exciting, though it makes perfect sensethat they went from Park Min-young to Jin Se-yeon, because they’re pretty interchangeable in my mind.

Doctor Stranger is the medical spy melodrama from PD Jin Hyuk of Master’s Sun and City Hunter and writer Park Jin-woo of Conspiracy in the Court. It stars Lee Jong-seok as aNorth Korean doctor who defected to the South and gets treated as an outsider in the hospital where he works. Park Hae-jin (You From Another Star) and Kang So-ra (Watch Out For Fools) play the other geeeenius doctors in the hospital.

Jin Se-yeon will play two roles, one as an anesthesiologist and Eastern medicine specialist. She’s the daughter of a merchant who emigrated to China, with a sweet, dutiful disposition. And then her doppelganger (I really hope they have a good explanation for why they have the same face other than “just because”) is a woman on a secret mission to get close to the hero. So I guess that makes her the spy in this spy drama. Earlier plot descriptions did mention the hero’s first love who ALSO had the same face; if that’s still true, it could mean that she becomes the spy, or there are just seventy gajillion Jin Se-yeons running around in this drama.

She’ll be coming straight from the set of her current Occupation-era epic Age of Feeling, which wraps just a few weeks before Doctor Stranger premieres. It’s actually not the first time she’s had such a crazy schedule, because I remember her joining shoots for Five Fingers concurrently with the last few weeks of Gaksital. Somebody get this girl a nap.

이민호·김수현· 이종석· 김우빈..新한류4대천왕 뜬다

배우 이민호, 김수현, 이종석, 김우빈이 '신(新) 한류4대천왕'으로 급부상하고 있다. 

'한류4대천왕'은 '겨울연가'로 일본에 한류 붐을 일으킨 배용준에 이어 2000년대 일본 팬들의 사랑을 받은 송승헌, 이병헌, 장동건, 원빈을 일컫는 말이었다. 이들은 조각 같은 외모로 큰 인기를 끌었다. 뒤를 이어 류시원, 고 박용하 등이 일본에서 사랑을 받았다. 

2010년대 들어서는 이 같은 '한류4대천왕'에도 지각변동이 일어났다. 일본내 한류가 안정화 단계에 접어들면서 중국, 동남아 등 일본 외 지역에서 속속 신 한류스타들이 탄생하기 시작한 것. 배우 박시후, 장근석 등이 일본, 중국에서 인기를 끌었고, 특히 장근석은 과거 배용준 못잖은 독보적인 인기를 구가 중이다. 

'신한류4대천왕'은 장근석의 뒤를 이어 한류 시장에 새로운 불씨를 지피고 있다. 

이들 중 대표주자는 이민호다. 이민호는 지난 2009년 국내 방영한 KBS 2TV 드라마 '꽃보다 남자'로 아시아권에서 한국을 대표하는 스타로 우뚝 섰다. 이민호는 '꽃보다 남자'에 이어 최근작 SBS '상속자들'이 중화권에서 인기를 끌면서 '엄청나다'는 말이 어울릴 정도의 인기를 구가 중이다. 

지난 중국 설 연휴에는 기네스북에 오를 정도로 높은 시청률을 자랑하는 국영방송 CCTV 설날 특집프로 '춘제완후이'(춘완)에 한국인 최초로 출연, 한류의 새로운 이정표를 세웠다. 이날 이민호 출연 방송은 중국 전역에 중계, 7억 명 이상이 시청한 것으로 알려졌다. 

그는 이어 CCTV 뉴스에 출연, 10분간 생방송으로 인터뷰하는 등 과거 그 어떤 한국 스타보다 막강한 인기를 과시했다. 

이런 이민호의 뒤를 잇는 게 김수현, 이종석, 김우빈이다. 각각 드라마 '별에서 온 그대', '너의 목소리가 들려', '상속자들'로 스타덤에 오른 이들은 또래의 장근석, 이민호만큼은 아직 아니지만 무서운 속도로 인기가 상승 중이다. 

드라마 '별에서 온 그대', '해를 품은 달', 영화 '은밀하게 위대하게'로 안방극장과 스크린에서 연이어 히트 중인 김수현은 지난해 중국 상하이에서 열린 코스모 뷰티 어워즈에서 배우 김태희와 함께 참석, 아시아드림스타상을 받기도 했다. 또 중국 최대 포털 사이트 바이두에서 다른 아시아스타들을 제치고 '오늘의 남자 배우' 부문 1위에 오르기도 했다. 

지난해 10월 일본에서 5000명의 팬들이 참석한 가운데 단독 팬미팅을 열었던 김수현은 오는 3월 중국, 대만, 일본, 싱가포르, 태국, 인도네시아 등 아시아 7개국 팬미팅에 나선다. 벌써부터 현지 유력 매체들의 관심이 뜨거운 상황이다. 

이종석도 중화권을 시작으로, 한류 팬들을 공략 중이다. 이종석은 대만에 이어 지난 14일 중국 상하이에서 2200명의 팬들이 참석한 가운데 중화권 두 번째 팬미팅 행사를 열었다. 이날 행사를 앞두고 13일 이종석이 상하이 홍챠오 공항으로 입국할 때는 수많은 팬들이 몰려 인산인해를 이뤘으며 팬미팅에 앞서 열린 기자회견에는 중국 주요 매체들이 참석, 중국내 그의 인기를 짐작케 했다. 

2012년 드라마 '신사의 품격', '학교 2013'등을 통해 본격 얼굴을 알리기 시작한 김우빈은 드라마 '상속자'들이 큰 인기를 끌면서 한류시장에서도 주목을 받고 있다. 김우빈은 16일 홍콩에서 1700여 명이 참석한 가운데 팬미팅 행사를 연데 이어 중국, 태국 등 주요 한류시장을 방문하는 아시아 투어를 펼치며 차세대 '한류천왕'을 위한 행보를 본격화할 예정이다. 

한 연예계 관계자는 "일본 내 혐한류 등 한류 시장이 급속도로 식어가는 상황에서 이민호가 중국에서 큰 인기를 끌며 새로운 한류스타로서 한류에 다시금 불을 지폈다"라며 "이민호와 더불어 김수현, 이종석, 김우빈 등 차세대 스타들이 중화권을 중심으로 속속 인기몰이에 나서면서 한류에 새 바람을 불어넣고 있다"고 기대감을 나타냈다.

Couple of our future leading males are down and out! Park Yoo Chun was injured during a shoot for Three Days while Lee Jong Suk is currently battling the swine flu. Hope both of them recover soon!

Park Yoo Chun overextended a shoulder ligament and had to be taken to the hospital for an MRI scan. As a presidential bodyguard in the drama, the injury resulted from the intense action scenes that he had to perform. Doctor’s orders are to rest, but it would normally take up to three months to recover fully from that kind of injury. Park chose to head back to the drama shoot as the drama’s tight shooting schedule won’t allow for much time to rest. He’ll be wearing protective gear around his injury so hopefully he won’t sprain it further. It’s going to be tough shooting with an injury when the series hasn’t even aired yet, and there’s probably a lot more episodes to shoot still. I am so looking forward to this drama by the way.

As for Lee Jong Suk, he’s suffering from the swine flu that he probably contracted while in China. He returned from his fan meeting in Shanghai, and a couple days later needed to go to the hospital. He was diagnosed on February 18, and is currently receiving treatment. However based on his condition it’s likely he won’t be participating in an upcoming episode of “Running Man” with Rain and Kim Woo Bin. That particular special episode is set to shoot in Australia and start shooting after February 22nd. It could have been a bromantic reunion for the School 2013 stars! Plus Rain. Hopefully Lee gets better by the 22nd so he can travel to Down Under with his bro-pal. Lee’s drama Doctor Stranger airs in April, so he’s got a good while to recover before shooting that drama.
