Moon Geun-young never forced her fans to pay tribute

Actress Moon Geun-young talked about the controversy over her forcing fans to pay her tribute in an interview Monday.

Previously, on her Instagram, Moon wrote, “If you are to pay me a tribute, make it grand and right.”

The seemingly misleading comment left by Moon was understood by some of the people as her abusing her celebrity status to the detriment of her fans.

Moon said, “That was my way of showing them my affection. Instagram is the place where I can communicate with my fans.”

Moon also explained that she did not like receiving gifts from fans in the past, but as more and more fans have asked her not to refuse, she eventually decided to let her fans do whatever they want to do.

“I believe it all happened because I maintain a very close relationship with my fans,” said Moon.

Moon has recently appeared in the SBS TV drama “The Village: Achiara’s Secret,” which aired its finale Thursday.

Moon Geun Young revealed to have donated over $700,000 in secret for the past 13 years

Actress Moon Geun Young was revealed to have donated money for about thirteen years to the patients of childhood cancer and rare incurable diseases!  This information was discovered when her name appeared on the list of Honor Society members on the homepage of Community Chest of Korea's Pledge of Love on January 22.

Her agency, Namoo Actors, stated, "As donations are something that are done in private, the agency did not know about it, either.  It is a kind deed, but she had not wanted this to be publicized so it was something she had done consistently in silence."

Since 2003, she had donated generous amounts of money consistently through Pledge of Love, amounting to a total of 900 million KRW (~ $740,000 USD).  

A rep from Pledge of Love stated, "Moon Geun Young is one of the largest contributors who has consistently made donations.  Although she had donated anonymously, the faces of the members of the Honor Society have been revealed since 2015.  Moon Geun Young's constant donations have become well known, and we would like for it to contribute to the formation of a developed culture of donation in our society."

Moon Geun-young donates 930 million won to charity

Actress Moon Geun-young has made donations for the patients diagnosed with childhood cancer and incurable diseases for the past 13 years, local news reported Friday.

Moon began her donation in 2003 to the nonprofit organization Community Chest of Korea to provide surgery costs for the patients. Over the past 13 years, the 28-year-old actress has donated a total of 930 million won ($775,266).

“Moon is one of the major donors who made consistent donations,” an official from the organization said. “At first she donated anonymously, but her identity was revealed when she was acknowledged as an Honor Society member in 2015. We hope Moon’s donation can contribute to forming a healthy donation culture in our society.”

Moon is part of the organization’s Honor Society, an honorary membership to renowned individuals that have made significant donations to the organization. Actors Ahn Jae-wook, Park Hae-jin, Yoona of Girls’ Generation, Suzy of Miss A and soccer player Park Ji-sung, among others, are part of the society.
