Remember the news update about Dir. Woo Min Ho's new movie, the one about the Inside Men's reunion with Lee Byung Hun? Looks like it has been confirmed today that actor Song Kang Ho will be playing the lead role while LBH has officially declined. BH Entertainment had given the reason as 'scheduling conflict with another foreign movie offer' or something to that effect. Well, he is currently busy with 'South Castle', not to mention 'Master' promos as well as 'Single Rider' next year.

by Pierce Conran / KoBiz

A coterie of stars have gathered for the upcoming period epic Namhansanseong Fortress, from Silenced (2011) director HWANG Dong-hyuk. Headlining the project will be actors LEE Byung-hun, KIM Yun-seok and PARK Hae-il.

Set in 1636, when the Qing Dynasty attacked the Joseon, the film focuses on King Injo (played by PARK Hae-il) and his retainers, who are hustled within the fortress located in Namhansanseong, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of his retainers (LEE Byung-hun) advocates for negotiations with the attacking force while another (KIM Yun-seok) urges the king to keep on fighting. The film is based on a novel of the same name by KIM Hoon which was published in 2007.

LEE has had a busy schedule recently, moving from last year’s hit Inside Men to roles in KIM Jee-woon’s The Age of Shadows and the Hollywood western The Magnificent Seven this fall, and the action-thriller Master due out next month. He will also be seen alongside KONG Hyo-jin in Warner Bros.’ second Korean title Single Rider early next year.

Following the exorcism hit The Priests last fall, KIM will be seen next month in the romantic drama Will You Be There? while PARK recently featured in the successful Colonial Era drama The Last Princess alongside SON Ye-jin. Co-starring in the film will be KO Soo of The Front Line (2011) and PARK Hee-soon of The Suspect (2013).

Director HWANG, who debuted with My Father in 2007, last made the hit Lunar New Year family comedy Miss Granny in 2014. Among the behind-the-scenes crew of the film will be the A Bittersweet Life (2005) and The Age of Shadows cinematographer KIM Jee-yong.

Filming for Namhansanseong Fortress kicked off on November 21st with a release expected to follow at some point in 2017. CJ Entertainment will both finance and distribute the picture.

Song Kang-ho joins the illegal drug trade for period film Drug King

by tineybeanie | Dramabeans.com

Chungmuro favorite Song Kang-ho (Age of Shadows) has signed on to lead a new period crime film called Drug King. This isn’t too far of a stretch from his usual roles, seeing as four out of his five last movies have been historical films as well. His upcoming Taxi Driver and past hit movie Attorney are even set in the same era as Drug King.

Set in the 1970s, Drug King is about a man who creates an underworld drug empire with its capital in Busan. This particular project has become the focus of much attention because the director in charge is Woo Min-ho of the wildly successful political thriller, Inside Men.

Originally, the offer for leading man was given to Lee Byung-heon (The Magnificent Seven) who collaborated with Woo Min-ho for Inside Men, but he declined. His agency clarified that Lee Byung-heon is currently in consideration for several movies overseas, and would not be able to fit Drug King into his schedule until his prior arrangements were finalized.

Filming for Drug King will begin in the first half of next year. A release date has yet to be announced. In the meantime, watch for Song Kang-ho in Taxi Driver and Fifth Column, coming soon to theaters in Korea.

Who will win the top prize at the 37th Blue Dragon Film Awards?

Source: STARNEWS via Hancinema.net

2016 was full of movies of diverse genres and colors. This year's Blue Dragon Film Awards is expected to be competitive.

Success, cinematic quality and performance are taken into account for The Best Actor prize and it's going to get messy. There are five actors whom we can't possibly compare and they are Lee Byung-hun, Song Kang-ho, Ha Jeong-woo, Kwak Do-won and Jeong Woo-seong.

Spoiler

#1. "The Wailing" Kwak Do-won is a top star now

Kwak Do-won is a top candidate.

He's starred in various movies such as "The Shameless", "The Attorney", "A Company Man", "Ghost Sweepers" and more. "The Wailing" has placed him in line with other top actors.

He was in the center of a mysterious case that happened after a foreign being appeared in a village. Kwak Dong-won's act of fatherly love and realistic living were outstanding.

Kwak Do-won went from 'great actor' to 'greater actor' with "The Wailing" and played an important role in enforcing the middle age group in Chungmuro.

#2. "The Age of Shadows " Song Kang-ho, a trustworthy actor

Song Kang-ho is a trustworthy actor and of course his name is in the list.

"The Age of Shadows" is the first spy movie in Korea. A Japanese cop tracks down a heroic group which brings in a bomb from Shanghai to Seoul in the 1920s.

It was a different approach for a Japanese Invasion movie and it focused on the emotions of people who lived hard times.

Song Kang-ho was outstanding once again and he expressed how a human can change according to circumstances. He was told, 'Song Kang-ho indeed'.

#3. "Inside Men" Lee Byung-hun, more than shocking

We can't forget about Lee Byung-hun.

He was on the verge of risking his career with some private matters but that all went away with his performance in "Inside Men". His visual was just a tip of the iceberg.

Lee Byung-hun's performance in "Inside Men" was so shocking but insanely impressive at the same time. We call him 'acting God' indeed.

#4. "Asura: The City of Madness" Jeong Woo-seong's passion

Jeong Woo-seong played his part this year. Producer Kim Seong-soo and Jeong Woo-seong came together once again with Hwang Jeong-min, Kwak Do-won and Joo Ji-hoon. The performance was great, but he storyline itself wasn't too great.

Although the movie didn't succeed, Jeong Woo-seong deserves an applause for his passion and self development.

#5. "Tunnel" Ha Jeong-woo hits the mark

Ha Jeong-woo was in a blockbuster movie this year. He was strong. He didn't go for 'change' like the others and just did what he did best. His wits and concentration created another 'Ha Jeong-woo movie'.

On the way home, a man gets trapped in the middle of a tunnel that collapses.

Ha Jeong-woo's 'one-man-show' stood out in this movie.

Lee Byung-heon, Kang Dong-won face off for Kim Woo-bin’s loyalty in Master

by tineybeanie | Dramabeans.com

master0.jpg

Buzz surrounding the upcoming action thriller Master is building up, especially since its recent promo poster and trailer release. The semi-caper movie has a star-studded cast list: Lee Byung-heon (The Magnificent Seven), Kang Dong-won (Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned), and Kim Woo-bin (Uncontrollably Fond) feature as the film’s main leads, with Eom Ji-won (Thrice Married Woman), Jin Kyung (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim), and Oh Dal-soo (Tunnel) rounding out the supporting roles.

Lee Byung-heon plays the villainous CEO Jin, a smooth-talking charmer with a talent for bamboozling people out of their hard-earned money. He heads a cult-like corporation called One Network, which gets thousands of members to join and pool their assets together in a pyramid scheme that ultimately only enriches the people at the top. He thinks, “The more enemies, the better. The stronger, the better.” In the trailer, CEO Jin’s chilling lack of guilt and skewed moral code are revealed when he says: “When you deal with petty cash, it’s called scamming. But when you deal with trillions, do you know what it’s called?” Still fraud in my book, but perhaps some bribable politicians would term it business.

If CEO Jin is the handsome face of the operation, Park Jang-goon is the brains. He’s the brilliant programmer who helped create One Network, played by Kim Woo-bin. In hot pursuit of these two big-league con artists is Kim Jae-myung, the leader of the white-collar crimes police task force team, played by Kang Dong-won. Determined to catch the duplicitous CEO at any cost, the cop entices the computer genius to switch sides, asking for just two things: the location of One Network’s data control center and CEO Jin’s hidden account book. Somewhere along the way, CEO Jin realizes a traitor has snitched on his organization, and the real action begins.

Eom Ji-won plays Shin Jemma, a police lieutenant under Kim Jae-myung. Her poster reads: “We don’t investigate just anyone.” On the opposite side, we have Mother Kim (played by Jin Kyung) and Lawyer Hwang (played by Oh Dal-soo). Mother Kim is the marketing director of One Network and CEO Jin’s right-hand woman. Lawyer Hwang is a prosecutor-turned-attorney who acts as the CEO’s guard dog, protecting his back and his company’s interests. As everyone closes in on linchpin Kim Woo-bin, loyalties switch quickly from one side to the next, and you never know who you can trust.

High-stakes con movie Master will be in theaters starting this December.

New action-thriller Master, which features stars LEE Byung-hun, GANG Dong-won and KIM Woo-bin, has been presold by distributor CJ Entertainment to 31 territories around the globe. The film is director CHO Ui-seok’s followup to his 2013 hit Cold Eyes.

Rights for the film were snatched by distributors in regions such as United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and many more. The title drew great interest from buyers when it was presented by CJ at the recent American Film Market (AFM) that was held in Santa Monica over November 2nd to 9th.

Master will bow first in Korea in December before beginning its international rollout that same month in Asian territories such as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.

The story concerns a major heist plotted by an infamous conman (LEE Byung-hun) and his right-hand man (KIM Woo-bin), who are chased around the world by GANG Dong-won’s determined investigator.

LEE has recently picked up several awards for his turn in last year’s hit thriller Inside Men and also featured in supporting roles in KIM Jee-woon’s Chuseok release The Age of Shadows and the US western The Magnificent Seven this fall. GANG is currently on screens in the fantasy VANISHING TIME: A BOY WHO RETURNED after appearing in the consecutive hits The Priests (2015) and A Violent Prosecutor, while KIM was last seen in the popular youth comedy Twenty last year.
