Singer and actor Jaejoong is set to appear in 'I want to sing a song', his first Japanese sitcom challenge, that premieres on August 1 on NipponTV.
Jaejoong plays the role of himself, a singer who loses the chance to sing due to the pandemic spread and his journey to make a comeback concert. In the show, Untouchable's Hidetsugu Shibata will play the director of his agency, and Roy Kato will play the role of his manager. 
This program is a mix of fiction and fact, a "faction sitcom" type of variety show. The storylines will be linked and will unfold based on the songs included in Jaejoong's "Love Covers" album,  released in 2019 and the upcoming album to be released on July 29th, "Love Covers Ⅱ".

Jaejoong's natural funny comments in Japanese variety programs and during his live MC have been loved by his fans, but this time he will make the general audience enjoy his goofiness as well.
At his first attempt at Japanese sitcom, Jaejoong commented: "I wish to make everyone happy by singing through this piece. This is my first attempt with a sitcom comedy, also it's been a while since the comedy duo "Untouchable" worked together & it's nice that Roy Kato plays as my manager, I believe it should be alright since I'm playing as myself (laugh), I'm looking forward to the airing from now on. Everyone, please look forward to the broadcast as well" 
Kim Jaejoong's first sitcom 'I want to sing a song' will air every Saturday at 12:55, starting August 1st. There are a total of 8 episodes.

Trans: Sunday Mainichi Interview: part 1

JJ: Focus on ‘living’

With his appearance of translucent beauty & singing in a long note Jaejoong has embraced many ppl. In his second cover album “Love Covers II” he sings Japanese famous songs. What is a miracle of ‘love’ he shows there?
We also approach his inner change he underwent during ‘an ordinary life’ under the pandemic.

Q: We understand that “Love Covers II” is a charity album for medical workers. What is your main focus like you did in the previous one & what is your new challenge?
J: What I valued was to express emotions without spoiling the images of the original songs. I was always aware of it. What I tried for the first time was singing a song in Kansai dialect.(Kanashii iro yane: A sad color)

Q: For the album, I thought, you’ve picked the songs from various times such as nostalgic pieces & songs by veteran musicians. What is the point of the selection?
J: The great songs have already become one’s memories. I wish these songs to revive in the hearts of many ppl. I selected them thinking of listeners’ feelings.
Q: In ‘Second Love’ you sung in a painful & fragile voice, whereas in ‘Kanashii iro yane’ in a manly husky voice. A song from woman’s view & song from man’s view, it’s only natural you differentiate the singing style & the way you put your feelings, right?
J: To be honest that was a very challenging part. Expressing man’s feelings & woman’s feelings in singing only by myself was mentally tough. However I’ll work harder from now on to convey great songs to you.

Q: Following’Melody’ in the previous album again you sing Tamaki Koji’s song. You co-starred with him in a song program, what is your impression of him?
J: Being able to sing Tamaki-san’s song & he himself understands that I sing his song, I’m very happy & honored. When I actually met him I found him very tall & cool. He was kind enough to assist me in singing at ease. He was a legend true to his reputation.

Q: Frankly speaking which song was the hardest in the album?
J: It’s ‘Betsu no hito no kanojo ni nattayo: I became another person’s GF’ The lyrics has a deep meaning so I struggled for the proper expression.

Q: Talking about a struggle, because of the spread of Covid-19 what we normally did are now difficult to do. Have you experienced any changes?
J: Not really excepting going overseas. However I’m having quite ordinary days maybe for the first time in my life. I refrain from meeting ppl as much as possible, so I have a lot more time to spend by myself. A radio show & photo shoot were all done online and for this interview we exchanged writings. (lol)

Q: During the self-restraint period when do you feel relieved?
J: It’s the time when I enjoy the aroma of flowers I arranged.

Q: For Mainichi Weekly’s March 22nd issue you graced the cover with the cherry blossoms . You look great with flowers. What brought you to the flower arrangement lesson?
J: I originally liked flowers & have wanted to arrange them by myself. I wish to give them to the ppl around me but I’m not good at it yet so I manage to arrange the flowers modeling mine after my teacher’s style. (laugh)

Q: On the other hand you are keen for volunteer work. This time again you’ve been helpful for the pandemic & contributed to a Japanese hospital. The Chinese fans also donated the masks to Korea, which is a heart-warming episode... Have you found anything new about yourself at this time of the corona crisis?
J: I realized that I love nature. I thought I need to have something I can focus on in nature that I’m familiar with, such as flowers or woodcraft. Right now I’m focusing on ‘living’. I feel that I’m alive & came to live with gratitude to ppl around me.

Q: That said it’s very difficult now to convey your gratitude directly to the ppl you care. I heard you put your wish ‘to always feel Jaejoong by your side’ into ‘not alone’, one of the series of ‘OUR STORY’, the fragrances you produced. How do you overcome the time when you are unable to meet your precious people?
J: Honestly it’s very hard, but for the time we meet again I wish to work on myself & maintain it.

Q: Incidentally ‘night time, the other product from ‘OUR STORY’ is the scent you want women to wear, right? Do you have a memory of a woman with a fragrance in the past!?
J: Well ...no.

Q: By the way from August you’ll challenge yourself to a comedy in the TV program ‘Boku wa uta ga utaitai: I want to sing a song.’
This is totally unexpected.
J: I’m most grateful for this in such a difficult time. I wish to pass on the small laughs to everyone. Please look forward to it!!

Q: A live streaming on Sep. 27th was announced. It would be different from the regular live concert or its live broadcasting, so it’ll be a new challenge, I suppose. Will you tell us a little about your ideas or plans?
J: What we’re going to do is a secret yet. (lol) I really look forward to making new memories together with my fans. I feel very happy! Conveying the songs to my fans is a important role of mine, so I want to prepare well.

Q:Lastly may we ask your message to Japanese fans?
J: Returning to Japan soon I want to see you all. Please take care of your health and wait a little for the day when we meet again!
