summerdamsel
The Sequel to Shaolin Soccer.. (?)Yep, you read right. Stephen Chow’s popular hit comedy Shaolin Soccer is getting a sequel in the form of a Japanese spinoff entitled Shaolin Girl. This time Stephen Chow will not be starring or directing, instead he has handed over the reins to director Katsuyuki Motohiro but has been keeping a close eye on the project serving as consultant and producer. One of my favorite Japanese actresses, Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale) will be taking over as the new lead instead of Stephen and the film will mix more over-the-top Kung Fu action this time with the Canadian sport of lacrosse. Despite Chow’s absence Lam Tze-Chung and Tin Kai-Man, who played Weight Vest and Iron Shirt in Shaolin Soccer, will be returning along with Kitty Zhang (CJ7) and an all-Japanese cast. The main story of Shaolin Girl (Shaolin Shojo) centers on a young female kung fu teacher, Rin (Kou Shibasaki), who must take over her grandfather’s dojo. In order to prepare herself, she travels to China for 3,000 days of grueling Shaolin kung fu training. On her return to Japan, she works to rebuild the dojo and joins her university lacrosse club, putting her considerable physical prowess to work for the team. The full trailer just made its way online a few days ago and it looks really good, like it may even be, dare I say it, even better than the original. I must admit I’m abit surprised that the sport is going to be lacrosse this time around, although I haven’t played the sport myself, I didn’t think too many people outside of Canada even knew what lacrosse was, much less played it, especially in Japan of all places. Still, I can’t wait to check this one out especially with Kou as the new lead (another must-see Chow film I have to check out, though to be honest after watching these trailers I think I’m more excited to see Shaolin Girl right now). The film is slated to come out in cinemas in Japan later this month on April 26 (which ironically enough is also my birthday). You can watch the full trailer and also the previous teaser trailer as well as two brand new tv spots for the film below and visit the official site (more of a blog really than a full site) by clicking here. I wonder why sequels sometimes seem to be totally irrelevant to the first movie. But anyway, the movie seems like its going to be awesome. The special effects is great and the lead seems to be quite a passionate actress.. (I could feel the shaolin-ness in her XD) I hope the movie will be good and will not become one of those movies that were aspired to be good.. Guest trinity1418
Hmm...interesting.... I keep expecting it to be in Canto or Mandarin but I hear Japanese...lol... To me...it doesn't look as interesting as the original...but still worth checking out... Lacrosse too??? Seems like a weird choice...but that might be for the better...who knows! Guest iron cupcake
That can barely be seen as a sequle to me, although if Lam Tze-Chung and Tin Kai-Man play the same characters as they did in Shaolin Soccer, then I guess it can be considered one. Still, Kou Shibasaki going wild in lacrosse is more than enough to know I definately have to see this.

Guest iron cupcake
movie looks fun, and because of this, i think i'll listen to kou shibasaki's music, lol. Her greatest hits cd that came out this year sold remarkably well, although I heard she does a lot of ballads (which get tiring to me after a while). Not sure though... She seems so feisty though (just recently watched Dororo) that I would expect her to be more rockish like Anna Tsuchiya or something.
