sheherizade3
This is just a continuation of my earlier post on Episode 16 http://www.soompi.com/forums/index.php?sho...864&st=3160 I was at first hesitant to rewatch episode 16 with the English sub because I already know the ending but then I told myself "What the heck, you already started, might as well finish." I'm glad I did because the translation really made a lot of difference. I take back what I said before that this is a comedy/drama not a romantic drama. After watching episode 16 I am really surprised why the writer opted for an open ending because personally, I felt this was indeed a love story of SH and YJ. Episode 16 was the clincher for me, its just that I missed most of the dialogue so that the overall picture was not clear. So what did I miss from my previous post? YJ wanted SH to realize his dream. She knows how important this competition was to him and prevailed upon GP and their boss (who wanted SH to withdraw from the competition) to have SH continue with the competition. I was so touched by her determination inspite of the fact that she will be putting herself in harm's way as his bodyguard. YJ: Whether to enter the competition or not, it's up to Kang Su Ho. The proctection plan should also be based on his decision, rather than just our own. We need to guard the protectee in times of danger. And not hide the person when we're afraid. YJ reiterated her stand when she and GP were alone. YJ: I wish to let him go. Kang Su Ho. I wish to let him enter the dance competition. I want to help him to persevere all the way to the end. I will move more diligently and be more carefull; that'll do. It's sufficient if we protect him. Isn't it enough if we protect him? Let's just do it like this. An equally perturbed SH asked GP why he can't reach them. SH: Did something happen to Cha Young Jin? Why can't the both of you be contacted through the cell phones? GP: It's work related. You don't have to worry. When GP was alone in his room, he again recalled another part of his conversation with YJ. From the expression on his face, he already knew that YJ really cares for SH. YJ: We've to keep what happened today from Kang Su Ho. It'll do him no good if he knows. It'll only cause him to worry. At this time, we should let him concentrate on the competition. Got it? (Here it is obvious that YJ is fully aware of SH's feelings for her). GP: What're you going to say about the wound on your face? Tomorrow, Kang Su Ho will see it. YJ: Just leave that to me. I will think of something to say. True enough, YJ gave an explanation about her wound to a doubting SH. YJ: I rolled down. SH: You rolled? YJ: Yes, I missed a step on the stairs and rolled down. SH: Aren't you a very athletic person Cha Young Jin? How could you have rolled down the stairs? YJ: Even a monkey can fall off from a tree. I can at times miss a step and roll down. SH looking at her suspiciously entered the van and YJ then looked at GP with the sweetest smile as if telling him "see, I was able to convince him". SH and YJ were just so cute in this scene. During the party for SH given by YJ's family and friends, both of them had a chance to talk alone. It was here that SH thanked YJ for helping him grow up and gave her the notebook where he left his "I love you" note. The note he left was not revealed until YJ was in the operating room before the monitored flatlined. I think that between us There's still a lot of time left And, I want to be a lover that you deem perfect I love you. Both SH and YJ have been been there for each other and the previous episodes prove that. To me, that's how I would define love.

jojo05
This scene was filmed in the garden of La Vie D’or, a golf resort hotel near Suwon City, south of Seoul. Here is a link to the hotel’s web page featuring Powerful Opponents: http://www.laviedor.com/community/view.asp...n=01&idx=90 This hotel is used in many K-dramas, including All About Eve starring Chae Rim. It is the hotel the "Eve's Morning" team returns to after karaoke, and where Sun-Mi saw Young-Mi going into Hyung-Chul’s room. The other scenes in the hotel reception were filmed at the Grand Hilton Seoul, located in the northwestern part of Seoul City. There are some pictures of the lobby area and banquet hall at the hotel website: http://www.grandhiltonseoul.com/kr/kmain.asp The transition from the Hilton to La Vie D’or occurs in the scene after YJ goes down the escalator as she is searching for the reporter. Guest kierelun
The script seems weird, can 2 guys who are related to each other fall for the same girl twice i.e. 1 deceased and the other a bodyguard - like twins, both do and think alike in their choices of girls? GP looks much older than SH whereas YJ matches better with GP. But in real life there are cases of bodyguards at one point in time have relationships with their clients (from Royal families) due to close contacts. Guest adikkeluangman
I so love the scene when KN make comparison btwn YeongGu n SuHo. The last draw when SH ask whether YG can't dance or not? When SH sis want to bribe GP to resign or move away from SH. Why the money in cake box? Then bring it on restaurant. On logic, outside food cannot bring in and also they don't look like celebrating. Usually the money in the briefcase or envelope. What the song as the OP of this drama. But then Ha Dong Kyung song as the track title? I like both songs. rambutan
For a show with such low ratings, Powerful Opponents is a delight! There was action galore, the drama was fast paced (all 16 ep of it), acting was superb (the little girl is best, followed closely by Chae Rim then LDW)). The story was nice, breezy and the "suspense/mystery" plot a bit simple, but hey, who says a good and entertaining show needs to be praised by Hercule Poirot, political scientists or drama critics? If you are out for entertainment as I was, and don't have to worry about writing a critic/review of the show after watching, you'll enjoy it. Well, for me at least. And for those who like character development, almost everyone does here! The open ending may not be the most satisfactory but it IS the most realistic. We have one low-down lady in her late twenties who worked her a?? off to be where she is, so don't expect her to throw her career away the moment she smells romance from some guys, great or not. She is the modern woman who wishes to make a name for herself in the workplace before becoming someone's wife (she's aiming to be department head in the series). rambutan
I rewatched the last episode and hey, the ending is NOT open ended. After Chae Rim was shot, her heart actually stopped beating in the operation room (note the change in the tune/tone of the heart pace machine). Next, ChaeRim was shown in dream-like state going off somewhere (as when a person just dies). However, she then met the group of family members, bodyguard colleagues and SuHo IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. She "came back" because of them AND SuHo's letter which said that they still had a lot of time together, and which ended with "I LOVE YOU". Also, in the last few minutes of the series, Chae Rim's reflections in the hospital grounds with her father ended with .."And.." followed by Suho in the car telling his daughter that he would propose to a girl in 3 years. So this is the ending: SuHo is giving ChaeRim 3 years to further her career AND they will end up together 3 years or more later. Realistic. Highly recommended series. Also, she got a huge step ahead in her career... not only did she get aa medal for bravely protecting SH, but also, she's bodyguarding the President himself now. I think that's about as high as she can get, as far as presidential bodyguards are concerned.

Guest whatever0024
I'm surprised the ratings were also low. I just finished episode 16, and I didn't think I would like this drama that much. I thought the ending was fitting because she's a career-minded woman, but I wish Korean dramas, or rather all dramas, would stop pairing the lead male and female together. I already knew who she would end up with even before watching the first episode when Lee Jin Wook's name was listed before Lee Jung Hyuk. The only fault I had with the drama is that Lee Jung Hyuk is so much older than Lee Jin Wook, not just in age, but in how he looks also. I didn't believe they were around the same age. Definitely one of my favorites of 2008.
