I was surprised to read that the first episode received low ratings. But after getting to a bit of thinking, I feel that it could be due to the storyline. Koreans, especially old folks, are still very conservative and set in their thinking. The idea that the heroine got pregnant through artificial insemination probably did not sit well with them. I'm a follower of Screening Humanity and I recall a segment on this early 40s divorced professional lady who opted to have a baby through AI. She had gone through 2 divorces and did not want to marry again. She talked about how many people (her parents and brother too, initially) were unable to accept her decision, but she still went ahead as she wanted a baby so much. I was thinking that I really admired her courage, but, I was concerned how her daughter accept this fact when she grows up. Personally, I'm not against AI, but then, I'm not Korean and I do not live in Korea.

I know that this reaction to this post is so late already, but I just couldn't resist posting my reaction. Anyway, I have the same theory to explain the low rating of 3D1M in South Korea. Plus the fact that the donors are the husband's friends. In most Asian societies, very close friends can also be considered part of the family. Sung Min treats his 3 friends (Soo Hyeon, Kwang Hee and Kyeong Tae) like they are his own brothers. And in Asian families, marrying or getting into a relationship with a brother's wife is a big NO-NO. I think these 2 factors (sperm donation and friends donating the sperms and eventually falling in love with a friend's widow), contributed to low viewership in Korea.

I have nothing against sperm donation either, but friends donating the sperms and friends falling in love with a friend's widow, I find that a bit iffy. But I still watched and enjoyed the drama because the writer was able to present these controversial themes in a lighthearted and funny way.

hjkomo..in regards to daemang, have not actually found the dvd and when i first encountered the drama a year ago, it was just the episodes that featured jhj but jang hyuk was also in episodes....but recently wils has been uploading episodes on jang hyuk's thread. she first uploaded 1 episode and when o-cha and i practically had heart attacks from excitement of being able to download an episode, she kindly uploaded more and there's now 6 episodes on the thread. hopefully she will be able to continually add more until we have all of the episodes. sadly, no english subs but for me, it's alright because i love the drama and i love those two great actors!!! yeah, hubba, hubba..jang hyuk and jo hyun jae together...totally awesome!!! their chemistry together and the brotherly love that they portrayed in daemang...just amazing.

Oh, a sequel for this drama? I haven't heard it............. but good if there's part 2 - surely, this is a good series. It's just that sequels don't usually surpass the original.

hi, may ann!!! no news yet about a sequel to 3D1M. Jo Hyun Jae and Jae Hee still have more than 4 months remaining in their military service, so fans of the drama will have to wait until then to find out if there will be a 3D1M sequel.
