On July 9, a representative of production company Bon Factory confirmed that the two actors would be appearing in the new drama “Boyfriend” (literal title). The representative stated, “Actress Song Hye Kyo and actor Park Bo Gum have been confirmed to appear as the leads of the drama ‘Boyfriend.’ We are aiming for a premiere in the second half of 2018, and we are currently in the midst of pre-production.”

“Boyfriend” will tell the story of Cha Soo Hyun (played by Song Hye Kyo), a woman who has never been able to truly lead a life of her own. As the daughter of a prominent politician, she is forced into an unhappy marriage with the heir to a wealthy conglomerate at a young age, and she eventually ends up getting divorced.

Cha Soo Hyun’s life changes unexpectedly when she happens to meet Kim Jin Hyuk (played by Park Bo Gum), an ordinary, innocent young man who knows how to find happiness in the small things. The heart-wrenching romance between the two, who appear to have nothing in common, ends up wreaking havoc on both of their lives.

The drama will be produced by Bon Factory, the production company behind “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim,” “She was Pretty,” and “Master’s Sun.” “Boyfriend” is currently in talksto air on tvN.

Song Hye-kyo and Park Bo-gum to Star in "Boyfriend"

Song Hye-kyo and Park Bo-gum are starring in the drama "Boyfriend".

"Boyfriend" is being planned for later this year and it's going to be pre-produced. It is a beautiful but sad love story about Cha Soo-hyeon, the daughter of a politician and ex-chaebol daughter-in-law who has never once lived life on her own, and a freewheeling young man named Kim Jin-hyeok (Park Bo-gum).

The story is about how love makes Soo-hyeon's heart begin to beat again and invigorates her dull life. On the other hand, Kim Jin-hyeok is very ordinary with nothing special, but he values the small things.

The co-casting of Song Hye-kyo and Park Bo-gum has netizens causing a commition. "Boyfriend" is Song Hye-kyo's first drama since "Descendants of the Sun", which was a huge success. Park Bo-gum is also famous for past dramas "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" and "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds".

Meanwhile, "Boyfriend" is written by Yoo Yeong-ah and directed by Park Shin-woo.
