Stop listing some of these people as half American. WTF is half American? It's irritating as john tesh and john teshing ignorant. Whites, Blacks, Latinos, etc. can ALL be Americans.

3/4 Taiwanese 1/4 Caucasian (not sure what specifically)

American (USA) isn't some ethnicity ffs.

While it's true that American can refer to being white, black, hispanic or asian... maybe you should consider the Wikipedia definition:

An ethnic group is a group of people whose members identify with each other, through a common heritage that is real or assumed.[1][2] This shared heritage may be based upon putative common ancestry, history, kinship, religion, language, shared territory, nationality or physical appearance. Members of an ethnic group are conscious of belonging to an ethnic group; moreover ethnic identity is further marked by the recognition from others of a group's distinctiveness.[3][4]

I know that Wikipedia isn't always the best thing to refer to, but I think it's a pretty good definition. If you want to be technical, a British person can refer to a white British, black British, asian British or hispanic British... I know you're specifically referring to bloodline and not nationality, but I think many caucasians in America don't even know their European ancestry because being born in America, they don't associate with Europe. Identity is what matters the most. Most Mexicans and Filipinos have Spanish blood, but they would be 1/2 Mexican or Filipino and not 1/2 Spanish. Same goes for Australians with English blood.

It doesn't really make sense to say 1/2 American just because the U.S. is a big melting pot, but it's a pretty understandable thing to say. People listing 1/2 American are just probably just trying to be specific and trying to avoid the vagueness of white or caucasian.

this is Seattle Mariner's manager Don Wakamatsu.

His dad is Japanese American, and his ma is Irish American. he's Yonsei himself (4th generation American) and his dad was actually born at Tule Lake War Relocation Center in California. he's the first half japanese half caucasian manager in baseball.

I don't know if she's also been posted already-- but there's Thelma Aoyama's friend, Ai. Her dad is Japanese, and her mother is Japanese Italian.

Well if you really think about it, most americans are white something like 80% I believe. So if someone say american, odds are it's a white person unless otherwise specified.

And before anyone gets on my back about this, countries like Korea/Japan/China, have percentages of other ethnicities living there too, so should you not refer to them as Koreans/Japanese etc?
