annagriss8
In a trite story drama, actors performance also shone The finale of MBC drama "Horse Doctor" also came out as expected. The hero gained honor and love and lived a happy life. There was no more obstacles and conspiracy to disturb him. The hero Baek Kwangyon (Jo Seung Woo) married his first love Kang Jineung (Lee Yowon). Became the Royal Physician with the support of King Hyeon Jong (Hang Sang-Jin). Baek Kwangyon climbed to the highest position by overcoming hardships & tribulations. "Horse Doctor" started October last year with people anticipating. It's the drama which Jo Seung Woo appeared for the first time 13 years from his debut. Moreover, it's spearheaded by Director Lee Byung Hoon, the forerunner of Korean historical dramas. Success was expected from the stage of production. Although the viewers rating recorded number 1 as expected, the position was always in danger. "Horse Doctor" was not able to get away from being hackneyed during the broadcast. Everything was similar to the previous works of Director Lee Byung Hoon's (1999) "Huh Joon" and (2003) "Dae Jang Geum". Just with different themes and characters, the hero of low social status is likely to succeed through overcoming all the difficulties. Director Lee Byung Hoon's greatest point is the detail. The reason for "Dae Jang Geum" to have gained a global success was in his delicate direction. The world of the palace kitchen in Joseon Dynasty was realistically drawn and the sight of King's gorgeous meal dominated in every episode. Also, the process in which Jang Geum became a medicine woman was interesting."Horse Doctor" story line was very similar to "Dae Jang Geum" and "Huh Joon". The success of the previous work was followed as it was. It fell into the mannerism of repeating the same story. The predictability of the plot was the fatal weak point. It's the reason why "Horse Doctor" was not able to break the 20% viewer rating easily. The audience rating did not rise to its satisfaction. Each episode was faced with crisis. There's tension whenever a new rival appeared. KBS "School 2" which gained a good review for being fresh competed in the early stage and caught up right behind "Horse Doctor". The drama was a threat in the ratings.SBS "Queen of Ambition" also aimed at "Horse Doctor". It was gaining popularity with the speedy development. Viewer's ratings also rose as Kwon Sang Woo's revenge started, defeating "Horse Doctor" many times. Due to "Horse Doctor" lacked of freshness and topic, new dramas could overtake. The plot of "Horse Doctor" was very simple. It only repeated three patterns. Confronting, surpassing & subjugating the difficulties and the trials the hero faced were the three elements of growth. It repeated the same contents that even those audience who were not following could comprehend. It maybe also an advantage, but it's a weak point in securing new viewers. The theme horse doctor of Joseon Dynasty was never taken up in Korean drama so far. But, regrettably, it failed to take advantage of this well. Although it's the first time, the stable " Horse Doctor" couldn't bring out the same creativity as the Imperial court, Lady Jang Geum's palace kitchen. It simply described the character called Kwangyon and did not lay emphasis on the occupational description. From the character to the story, all was inclined toward the superficial thing. The contents were the same when Baek Kwangyon used his knowledge as a horse doctor to cure people. Always it's about facing the tribulations and overcoming them. The inner depth of the hero was not observed & the state of mind was not drawn. Also, the people in the surrounding were not dealt independently, they were supporting characters for the hero. All the focus were with Jo Seung Woo making the actor & the viewers to feel tired.Lee YoWon's presence which became the discussion was not because of her acting skills, but it's all because the development were concentrated on the hero. Although there were many characters, it's regrettable that they were not utilized properly. All the characters were simply divided "good" and "bad." It's a structure where the overall degree of perfection and dramatic feelings of tension could not but fall. "Horse Doctor" was a work which was disappointing in many aspect, but there's no objection to Jo Seung Woo's performance. The strong ability cultivated in the movie or musical was also demonstrated in the drama. The triteness of "Horse Doctor" was overcame because of his theatrical skills. The drama did not catch up with Jo Seung-Woo's acting who emitted impudently the words "virtuous woman on daytime can play at night" [the words that PSY [Gangnam Style] made to a parody line]. Although the performance of actors including Jo Seung-Woo shone, the work was old and lacking originality. The script of "Horse Doctor" was frustrating, it's a predictable content which went past the stale.kstyle.com放送終了「馬医」陳腐なストーリーにも俳優たちの演技は輝いたThanks Nickachan2008
