  1. So far I finished episode 7, only 1 loop. Anyway, the latest previews already revealed who the bomber is.

This is quite an exciting drama. I couldn’t stop, chasing one episode after another. I felt really  ‘tired’ for the main leads - sleeping or dying, then reawakening on the bus, and explaining to the Police repeatedly. The back stories of the other passengers are slowly revealed as the drama progresses which gave me an understanding into the real life issues of the ordinary people, from young to old. I am amazed at the realistic acting of the supporting actors - bus passengers and police officers.

  2. @a_tumiwa Li Chun Gang explained before that regardless of the realm, it also depends on the skill level of the person. An indirect but simple example is XFN has the Da Huang Ting, but because he does not have the level of skill that normally takes years to cultivate, he cannot fully manifest its powers. As for Wang Xian Zhi, Li Chun Gang explained that he could have beaten him, but because he respected the wide expanse of skills Wang had, and also he did not want to kill him which would be a waste ( have to rewatch to confirm this part), he purposely lost to him. I suppose that’s why Wang never claimed he was No. 1 all this time, out of respect for Li.

On a separate topic, I always laugh when I see Zhao Kai appear with his armour ‘pal’. I find him quite pitiful, having only his armour pal to accompany him around and do the impossible thing of fighting for the throne. I was happy for him when he added one more person to his ‘entourage’, even though he is the ‘bad guy’. I first took notice of this actor when I saw him act as the General who fell in love with the princess in The Rebel Princess. His acting was good enough for me to feel his pining for the Princess, and the anguish when he betrayed his master. Saw him again recently as a Prince in Luo Yang, and now this drama. He is not good looking, but somehow managed to leave an impression me. Looking forward to see how he will resolve the dilemma of trying to kill his ‘brother-in-law’, and marry the second sister after.

  3. Some random thoughts so far :

The character for WSY is nicely written - righteous and daring to pursue what she has set her mind to. Alas, I feel that the actress may have been miscast? She looks too modern for portraying a Tang Dynasty person. Nevertheless, her acting and diction have improved since the earlier episodes. Qi Niang, on the other hand, has the right look; in fact, I feel that her maid has the perfect look for a Tang Dynasty maiden. It is well known that well-endowed women were favoured during this period … heh heh. Speaking of which, she looks a bit … ahem … too well-endowed to be a maid? The Liu household must treat their servants well :droolz:

The styling for the women’s costume looks like a bit like an Indian saree, with the over one shoulder sash. I suppose the styling team wanted to create a unique look. The necklaces the ladies wore were a bit jarring for me - always distracted me when I was trying to focus on the story. I like all the official’s uniforms though, both the male and female versions - very smart looking.

I saw the making-of video - apparently, the sets were specially created for this drama - took them 90 days to build. Again, I marvel time and again over the sheer number of extras they hired for the street scenes - big budget indeed!

  4. Now that the other drama has ended, I am starting this one :hwaiting2:

Watching this gives me the vibes of the Demon Cat movie. Huang Xuan was excellent in that one. Is the film set the same? I marvel at the sheer number of extras hired for the town/street scenes.

So far 4 episodes in, the 2 male leads are doing fine. The female lead is lagging behind in terms of acting and diction, as pointed out by @hush puppy. Happy to see Song Yi here acting as Bai Li’s wife - she was excellent in that son-in-law drama.

  5. Shao Zi has had many opportunities to kill or harm FZ when he was in a coma, so I don’t think it’s him.I suspect the big boss behind Eunuch Shi is …

    Spoiler

Ti Lan’s brother? Remember the time when Ti Lan was presented with his personal amulet and asked to kill the Emperor? Only he could have personally given it to someone to pass to her.

In the latest episode when the mermaid …

    Spoiler

Offered to heal FZ, he said later, rest first - I was like Urghhhhhh! why delay it? What if something else happens along the way, like the mermaid gets killed or something ……? Then all that effort to bring her to Capital would be for nothing!

There is something I don't understand about tilan in episode 20.

Why .. she went and imitate zizan and practically got herself rape?  I mean she is bullied...... But I rather go somewhere far away from the emperor. And live on....

Me, too. I don't understand her intentions here. Of all times to do it, was she hoping he was drunk and would not notice?

I interpret it as Ti Lan, being pressured by her country’s envoy, trying to persuade the Emperor to send help to her Zhu Nian Tribe. She hoped that by looking like Zi Zan, the Emperor would be more amenable to agree. I don’t think she expected the Emperor to be drunk. However, unknown to her, the Emperor had always been soft-hearted in the past, and even though Zi Zan was against it, he would persuade his father, the then Emperor, to help. He now knows that the Zhu Nian tribe are greedy, and just taking advantage of the fact that their princesses are favoured by the Emperor. Not sure if Ti Lan knows she is being made use of - she doesn’t seem as smart as her late sister.

  7. Haishi looked so pretty in the 2 Hu Ku outfits she wore in the latest episodes. Too bad she is back in her soldier uniform now.

Hell knows no fury as a woman scorned - I initially thought that maybe Ju Qi Qi would just withhold intel from the battle region, but she …

    Spoiler

went down the path of no redemption by trying to get Haishi killed. I’m guessing from the previews that JQQ died because was sentenced to death by the Emperor for treason, or she committed suicide out of guilt after Fang Zhu nearly died from his unattended injuries.

  8. Thanks, @Prettysup the mermaid reappeared in episode 11 in Haishi’s recollection of the mermaid saving her when she was young, so I realise now that the actresses are different … haha ….

Episode 13 and 14 were a bit boring for me because I don’t like watching war battle scenes. Only interesting scenes were those of the Emperor and Ti Lan. Speaking of Ti Lan, I suspect she knows that Haishi is female? When Haishi saved her and they were riding the horse, Ti Lan had some surprised expression on her face when she put her arms around Hai Shi’s chest? If that is so, then her concern for Hai Shi is one for someone who saved her life, and a fellow female? Not for a good looking General which the Emperor is mistakenly jealous for.

  9. I’m not familiar with the Novoland series, so I have many questions about how things work there.

For example, is the mermaid from episode 1 a real person from a tribe which is part of the Zheng country or another country? Or is it a random mythical creature? I’m not good with faces, but is the mermaid the dead Empress or her sister? What power did the mermaid transfer to Haishi?

What is the magic spell that bonds the Emperor and Fang Shifu? Is it a spell or some special power? So far up to episode 8, I haven’t seen any witch or shaman that casts spells in the drama.

Is the Emperor really mad or just eccentric? I feel bad for the poor servant that serves him - he’s trying so hard to please him and the Emperor threatens to kill him left and right. I can’t imagine working for someone so unpredictable.

I enjoyed episode 8 -  fun to watch Haishi taking the imperial exam, and the pace moved faster than episodes 6 and 7 where I was confused why General Su was going after Haishi.

l'm also curious why the chief eunuch seems to have a higher standing than the vice minister of rites? i would think that as an appointed official he outranks the chief eunuch?

During China’s Ming Dynasty, some eunuchs reached high political standing as they were considered close to the Emperor and could influence his decisions. They acted as the spies for the Emperor and would carry out ‘unpleasant’ tasks on behalf of the Emperor. Some even had their own personal armies to help carry out these ‘unpleasant’ tasks. However, I was surprised to see in the drama that the eunuch ambassador was from Korea, so I looked it up and here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

During Ming's early contentious relations with Joseon, when there were disputes such as competition for influence over the Jurchens in Manchuria, Korean officials were even flogged by Korean-born Ming eunuch ambassadors when their demands were not met.[80] Some of the ambassadors were arrogant, such as Sin Kwi-saeng who, in 1398, got drunk and brandished a knife at a dinner in the presence of the king.[81] Sino-Korean relations later became amiable, and Korean envoys' seating arrangement in the Ming court was always the highest among the tributaries.[80] Korea stopped sending human tribute after 1435.[80] A total of 198 eunuchs were sent from Korea to Ming.[82] The Ming eunuch hats were similar to the Korean royal hats, indicating the foreign origins of the Ming eunuchs, many of whom came from Southeast Asia and Korea.”

  11. I’m also at episode 18 but let me share based on my understanding so far. It is stated in his father’s will that ZSC will inherit the family business once he is married.  Step mother turns out to be only trying to protect ZSC against his relatives who are eyeing the business, especially the Uncle. That’s the reason why she insisted that he marry someone that she chooses, someone who has a strong family background who can support him in guarding his interest. This was revealed in her conversation with her mother. ZSC’s step brother was hoping that by marrying TJR, he would have a chance at inheriting the business but his mother followed the will, which was unexpected for him. Disappointed that things did not go the way he had hoped, he decided there was no point in continuing the pretend marriage. They both already signed the divorce agreement, but will only announce it one year later, so as not to embarrass both their prominent families. He must have informed his Mother, so there was the scene of her talking to TJR, consoling her.

it remains to be seen if the step brother will stir up any more trouble, and if the mob attacks and other incidents were his doing.

As for the properties and businesses gifted to SY, i believe it is customary to present them as ‘marriage gifts’ to your wife, as a gesture of sincerity and to protect your wife’s interest in the future. It can also be seen as a shrewd business move to divest your assets in case anything goes wrong in the future, though I’m not sure if this is the case with ZSC. Probably MX advised this, as his lawyer? We’ll see. Incidentally, I don’t think SY is even aware of this, as she looked surprised when her cousin told her about the tea factory.

    • Insightful 1
  12. Yes, because of his name. SY was dubbing a documentary/drama that had a character named ZSC. She felt a special connection to the character because her name is also coincidentally the name of the female character. That’s why her good friend commented in a later episode that the name of a person is very important, because that’s what led to their romance. This plot is different from the novel which had a reincarnation theme, which of course is now banned in China.

  13. Actually, I don’t think the best friend is the Crown Prince. They don’t look the same, and their mannerisms are different. So far, I haven’t seen anybody from the ancient drama yet.

in episode 5, I laughed so much when I saw ZSC sling SY’s bag across his body. Reminded me of the controversy a while back about whether guys should help carry the bags of their girl friend or wife. Personally speaking, I don’t think it is necessary unless it is a heavy luggage bag. But it’s cute to see ZSC do it :cutekitty:

  14. What a tragic end   :criesariver:   Hope all the characters will reappear in the upcoming modern version. I hope the monk and General Feng will have a love line, Cui Feng and General Hong will have a happy ending, and also Liu Zi Xing with Princess Xin Hua.

Agree with @Alila N Bailu’s acting was impressive, especially in episode 16 (bidding farewell to ZSC and leaving Xi Zhou after being once again!!! bethrothed to Crown Prince) and end part of episode 23 (told of ZSC’s death by her Mother).

I always confused her with Li Qin, but after watching this drama, I think I can now tell them apart :sweatingbullets:

  15. Oh, you mean the ‘love trial’. I believe it was understood that she would have to go through a trial to be promoted to the next level, but it is different for different ‘gods’. As BQ was born into the prestigious fox clan, and already possessing high level of ‘cultivation’, the choices of her trial would be rather limited, and therefore, it ended up being the love trial. Notwithstanding that, it is not explicitly stated how and who would be part of the trial, so the events that followed were entirely the decisions of the characters. Of course, YH suffered the most for his part in the trial, losing Su Su and all, but you can say that Su Jin also contributed to Su Su’s misery through her actions, so that’s why she had to suffer the consequences later.

hmmm … makes me want to rewatch this drama again …

  16. I’ve watched the first 10 episodes and so far, the story has kept my interest. Thanks to the good story telling and believable acting of the actors, I want to know what will happen to the characters in the drama, even to the side characters. To get a clue, I went to watch the different trailers available, and I have come to the conclusion that this drama is not going to end well. Right at the start, we already saw that Shi Yi was betrothed to the crown prince. Even though this was annulled in Episode 8, it was clear that the crown price was infatuated with her and will not give up. This will most certainly set in motion the series of events which will lead to the demise of Nan Chen Wang (not a spoiler, see synopsis).

So, if you are looking for a drama with a happy ending, this drama is not for you. Unfortunately for me, I realised this too late as the characters have caught my attention. It will be ‘torturous’ for me, knowing how it will end, but I will likely watch it to its sad end.

Any idea why sujin was punished for doing evil deeds to bai qian when she is just following what is written in the book of fate ? It is not under her control

What is written there? So long since I watched this drama …  but one of my favourites still. Su jin’s actions were decided and executed by her. Why is it not under her control? She should be responsible for her actions and suffer the consequences accordingly.

  18. I’ve not had the urge to rewatch a drama for a long time, since maybe 3L3W 10MPB, but this drama really makes me happy when I watch it. So now while waiting for next week’s episodes, I’ve been rewatching it and giggling over and over again. I think this is the best modern drama for Dilireba so far, better than that fashion designer drama. And of course YY is also nailing his character here, so geeky yet so dashing. I love watching him

    Spoiler

… emerging from his 4WD in the desert, his dark glasses and army outfit makes him look so WOW! I’m totally like Xiao Zhu, swooning over his appearance. And how cool it is that he made himself useful setting up the stronger signal repeater there so that everyone can benefit from getting mobile data. Definitely more useful than the other actress’s boyfriend who brought a buffet, and delayed the filming progress because everyone was pigging out.

Ok, back to rewatching Cat Love GIF by Tonton Friends

  19. I laughed so hard when I saw what happened to the 3 guys who had been staking out JJ and YT for their scoop story. They were SO CLOSE to posting their photos and achieving the ‘pinnacle’ of their careers, the biggest scoop on a famous star and an aeronautical scientist! Wow, what a story it would have been! Even Ling Jie and Xiao Zhu were not against the official announcement of their relationship! Unlucky for the guys to have been

    Spoiler

caught taking photos outside the aeronautical research institute where YT works and thought to be spies LOL. Actually, it makes a lot of sense that such facilities would have enhanced security protection. Nice attention to detail there.

So many nice scenes and nice shots of the couple. I kept giggling as I was watching the latest episodes. So much fun!

  20. It’s true, but I think there were some variables that BJ did not foresee, eg. Qing Mu awoke earlier and started to have his own consciousness, Wu Huan posessed the demon (mo) power, and was secretly training that power to make herself stronger … If Hou Chi had stayed in Qing Chi Gong and lived a carefree life as he had intended, then he would have just sacrificed himself when the time came to curb the chaos calamity, and that’s the end of it. The appearance of Qing Mu and his subsequent inevitable love for Hou Chi drew Wu Huan’s attention and ire, which led to the tragic events which followed.

  21. True Gods like Shang Gu can perish and that was what happened to her previously when she tried to save the three realms by sacrificing herself. After she disintegrated, her soul fragments were scattered all over the realms and worlds. Bai Jue spent 10,000 (or is it 40,000?) years collecting the fragments to make Hou Chi. The crucial source fragment was eventually revealed to be with Gu Jun, who sacrificed himself to return it to Hou Chi, which then completed the transformation process to awaken Shang Gu.

So to answer your question, yes, it is possible to destroy Wu Huan, but we’ll have to see how they do it in next week’s episodes. I just hope that Tian Qi will survive some how, and the four True Gods can be reunited.

  22. Oh no! I hope Tian Qi doesn’t

    Spoiler

… Die T,T”  So now Wu Huan is as powerful as the 4 true Gods? How are they going to bring her down?

Now we know why Feng Ran denied bringing Yuan Qi to do those fun things … it was Bai Jue in disguise. So sweet, and so sad that’s the only way he can spend time with his son …

Coming to the exciting final few episodes next week. Hope they can resolve the end-of-the-world chaos well and give us a happy ending!
