  1. Seeing that no one replied to your question, I’ll try explaining it here. He was referring to himself, ie. Dong Hua’s own mortal realm trial. Because he did not properly complete it - he died of a broken heart well before he was supposed to have lived out his life to a ripe old age - he had to suffer a ‘penalty’ for it. The penalty differs according to the diety’s seniority or cultivation, so instead of ‘dying’ which will happen to most lower level dieties, Dong Hua just lost some of his ‘powers’. Hope that helped. Cheers!
  2. No, on Kun Lun Shan, only MY knew BQ’s actual identity. YH was only a lotus flower at that time, so he only had vague memories of Si Yin. enjoy watching!
  3. @Cammy At Shisan’s transformation event ... N : Mother, today we can really meet this Shisan fairy that you often speak of? L : Yes, today is the day that Shisan will transform/evolve. ..... Y : Nianer, did you miss me? N : Yes, I did but Mother would not allow me to go to Peach Forest to look for you. Y : Why? L : You still have the cheek to ask? At the last visit, you secretly gave her wine, and she slept for 20 days straight. How can you do this as an elder (of Nianer)? Y : How can children of Peach Forest not learn how to drink wine? Isn’t that right, Nianer? Wasn’t the wine of Peach Forest delicious? This is is a very interesting conversation for those who also watched Ten Miles Peach Blossom. BQ also gave Ah Li peach blossom wine and he also slept for days, resulting in YH rebuking BQ for it.
  4. here you go ... N : Mother. Mother L Nianer what’s wrong? N : I’ve looked inside and outside but could not find Father. L : Didn’t I already tell you? Your Father went to a faraway place and can only return after some time. H : This is the child of the owner of this place? L : Yes, naturally. N : Who is this person? Why are you staying in my Father’s Palace? Aunty Hua Liao said that except for my Mother, all other women who try to get close to my Father are bad women. Are you a bad person? H : Of course not. I am the servant in charge of this place. My name is Hua Yan. I came from the lower realms. I am the direct disciple of Bao Shuo Zhu of the Shi Fang Shan Bai Yun cave. L : Bai Shuo Zhu, Zhu Zi Zai’s disciple? H Uuuummmm? You know my master? L : You are certainly fated with this Fu Yun Palace. Please continue to tend to this place well. If there is anything you need, just go to the far North Cong Ji Yuan to look for me. My name is Ling Xi. H : Alright. Since you also know my name and where I live now, you can also come to look for me here. L : Your personality in this life has become more cheerful. H : What? L : Nothing. I shall leave now. Nianer, let’s go. I’ll carry you. Good girl.
  5. I was amazed by this actress - the short buzz cut/shaved head may not suit all people but she looks gorgeous in it. Very brave of her to take on this role and this look. Agree with you that the actresses are good in their roles, although I am not familiar with them, except maybe for Wen Ran - can’t remember which drama I have seen her in before. Really? The drama ended nicely at Ep. 48. Unless another incident occurs in Chang An? and our heroes are called back to investigate it?
  6. That is not a smirk. He was born with a cleft lip and after corrective surgery, his upper lip is uneven so the left side is higher, resulting in what seems like a smirk. There’s a sad backstory about how his elder Brother sacrificed himself to try and get a position in Chang An for Captain Cui. So you will see as the drama progresses, how hard Captain Cui tries to achieve that goal to live up to what his elder Brother has done for him. Like you, I also became interested in the poems recited in the drama. What a way to get people interested in Chinese literature again!
  7. In case anyone is wondering, it’s a happy ending. Both XYQ and SJR survived the big battle with Moon Sect and made it out alive at the end, and lived happily ever after. Sadly though, Overall, a well-made drama with well-developed side characters. Nice OSTs, too.
  8. He was ok, not particularly stretched in terms of acting difficulty. I thought it was interesting that they introduced an African person in this drama, considering the fact that Africa is so far away and the two continents would unlikely have known about each other then. But still, it is plausible that he was bought as a slave by some rich person , who somehow brought him to China, or was transferred among a few masters along the way, then ending up in China. I liked how they synchronised the dubbed Mandarin speech to his English speech - it was so obvious he was speaking English, but his sentences all ended on the dot. They are really attentive details - very high quality production.
  9. Watermelon is so adorable, so cute! All the kids were well chosen for their roles - they acted so well, and look quite like their adult versions, too.
  10. Like you, I also had some criticism of the fight scenes which I commented on in an earlier post but now that I am at Ep. 15, I see that there are now many more which were done quite well. For example, as mentioned by @bluehibiscus, the fight scene between Ah Jing and XYQ when they met again after three years - beautifully shot, the colours, the flying sequences, the rain, etc ... Many squeal worthy scenes between our leads, as mentioned by @Yui. above - the period when Ah Jing was blinded by poison, and was looked after by a mute doctor, who unknown to her, was actually XYJ. So, I would recommend you press on past Ep. 10, which is a turning point for Ah Jing, when her shifu and Qing Lan are killed by Bai Lian Sect in Sand Valley. She starts to practise the Blood Rose sword and can Attack (instead of just defending herself which her shifu only taught her previously).
  11. Watched up to Ep. 8. Nice scenery. Gorgeous colours - white, red, in a green bamboo forest. Very prettily shot. Likeable characters - Qing Yu and Xiao Tai are so cute. Hope they have a happy ending. Fight scenes can be better - poor editing in some sequences. But I love the way Xiao Yi Qing’s sword flies around like a boomerang haha. Overall, this drama has caught my interest. Will continue watching it. Hope to have more viewers so we can share our thoughts.
  12. Book ending summary : It’s a simple, happy ending. Don’t understand why they had to complicate the drama by killing people left and right. Too bloody for my liking.
  13. I’ve not watched the latest episodes so I don’t know if it was explained further but what I’ve figured out so far is ... I thought this was supposed to be a light hearted romcom but has now evolved into a bloody fight for the throne drama with people dying left and right ... sigh ...
  14. I also love this character. He’s so funny. I wonder if his character was supposed to be written as comedic, or the actor made it so. Here’s another scene of him which I found hilarious.
  15. I’ve been locked out of my account for the past few days, and I had been dying to add my two cents worth about DFS. Definitely can’t stand him. From the time he tried to ruin BQ’s reputation by kidnapping her and spending one night with her, to setting up rival shops to compete with her, and almost destroying XX’s martial arts skills, and not forgetting kidnapping YL and causing her to beg him on her knees .... so many atrocious deeds ... and he thinks he can still win her heart? Delusional! I don’t know what his background is, but he has no sense of propriety, and definitely no sense of righteousness and morals. Even if he ends up sacrificing himself for BQ at the end of the story, I don’t think he can redeem himself enough for me to have one shred of sympathy for him. Anyway, @themarchioness Thank you so much for your recaps! Reading your thoughts which came with them made me laugh.
  16. @40somethingahjumma I believe that scene implies exactly what you are thinking. They were separated for a period of time and reunited finally, and knowing now with great relief that they are actually not siblings. All those suppressed feelings .... you get the drift .... @mimidq8 In the book, they were reunited in the garden, and the maids were a short distance away, so it’s not possible to *ahem* ... so just kissing and hugging. Haha ...
  17. Looks like it’s only 4 episodes next week. No broadcast on 7th Feb ... sad ... but at least we will see CY and BQ reunite finally !!!
  18. I believe that is either his ‘school name’ or ‘courtesy name’ used by his peers. It is considered disrespectful to address him directly by his given name, which can only be used by his parents or elders.
  19. To add to @crackaddict ‘s post on the difficult position that MRF is in, he is not only protecting his Mother but the entire Mo family. Imagine what Qi Wang Ye will do if it is revealed that BQ died in the hands of MRF’s Mother. The entire Mo extended Family will probably be executed and the employees, servants etc, sold off as slaves. MRF is responsible for the business and many people’s livelihood. And since there is no antidote to save BQ, rationally speaking, there is no point sacrificing more lives. It won’t bring her back to life anyway. Looks like MRF’s story arc has ended? So we won’t be seeing him anymore. Aawww ... anyway, the drama has introduced a new actress to look out for in future dramas.
  20. Is Biluotian treasure and how BQ is the holy maiden to be sacrificed to access the treasure written in the novel? If this story arc only exists in the drama, then we can only guess what will happen next in the story. So far, DFS knows that BQ is his betrothed, but the question is, does he know about the BiLuotian treasure, and his grandfather’s intention to use her to get the treasure? We don’t know his intentions yet, but he seems like a decent guy so far. Hopefully, he is just set on marrying her because he likes her, and not because of the treasure. Anyway, I have no doubt that it will be a happy ending. Just waiting to see how they resolve the Biluotian treasure story arc.
  21. No, not yet. So that’s why she cried bitterly when she saw CY’s face in the new trailers for Ep. 16.
  22. I am intrigued by the good looking Mo Ruo Fei and looked up the actor. Turns out it is played by a female actress called Xing En https://www.weibo.com/xxxingxxx. Nice interaction between MRF and Buqi. Hope he can protect her from his Mother.
  23. I am #18. Quite late in joining this thread - only at Ep. 12, so I can’t join your discussion in real time. But I must say that I was blown away by the fight scene in Ep. 6, when NQ helped Chao Xiao Shu. Now enjoying NQ’s daily ongoings at the Academy. How awesome was is it when the 3rd Prince tried to embarrass him at the Club, and the drinks ended up being on the house because of NQ? Ha!
