i’m thinking that there is prize money for the rank of medals you win but at the same time, probably a lot of the amount goes to the sports federation as well. YR’s life might have improved slightly after her first gold but fencing is an expensive sport where many dropped out because they were unable to afford it.. her mom opens a small eatery and her dad is a truck driver.. in the 90’s i think its pretty hand to mouth earnings for them to sustain the living expenses and her sports..

Like I said before actually the thing that feels off is YR can't even afford shoes and bag. . She doesnt need to have a lot of money or being rich for that. She is jealous of NHD because NHD have nice shoes and bag, while YR have quite broken of them and cant afford the new one. Especially shoes are a basic need for athlete, since YR is also member of national team, she could also get if for free from government/sponsor, I dont think they will ignore gold medalist and national team member shoes to be broken right? And during few months before asian games, YR also won another medal (so it's not like she only won her first gold medal), she get another money from the prize and government. So its still dont make any sense from my view

About that foreigner, knetz already guessed it

In real life, the South Korean government would give Olympic gold medal athletes cash awards. No matter what sport. It's been reported that An San, who recently won two gold medeals for archery at the Tokyo Olympics 63 million won (US $55,000). If she's a celebrity athlete which I believe should be since she is a gold medalist and appears on television, she should be getting CF deals similar to Kim Yuna, who won the gold medal in Vancouver in 2010.

Right? This is what I mean. It's so weird that she cant afford basic need like shoes and bag?? Where did all money go? Its not like her parents are jobless either, both are working. I guess this is a plot hole, the writer probably just want to make a set up of her being poor and cant affort those so she will jelous of NHD. But it doesnt make sense because YR is gold medalist and still winning a lot of tournaments, YR should be richer than NHD, with all the allowance and bonus money from government, tournament prize money and sponsor deals

I see your point, but I view it differently. Just because NHD is well of doesn't justify YR's behavior. I mean, no one in this world chooses the family they're born into. There will always be people who are weathier and poorer than you are. Will she vent her anger at any opponent she faces just because they got an easier life? If so, poor YR, because that means she will be unhappy and pitiful forever.

    Didn't watch ep6 yet. But I will in a few hours ;)

Yes. She is just a bully at this point

    Spoiler

I think you need to watch eps 6 where she is more annoying and b****, yet NHD still being nice.

It's so funny to me that she is again getting mad at BYJ just because he was disappeared, and said that he OWE an apology to her, like?? Lol.

Also did I miss something, where all her money go? Since she is gold medalist, and won a lot of medals, not in national scale but internationally, but she stays poor?? Cant even buy a bag and shoes? No matter how poor her family is, she still can get a lot of money

  4. Spoiler eps 6

    Spoiler

Aw so many sweet scenes of our OTP. Finally they reunite. I love that NHD doesnt even mad to BYJ because he suddenly disappeared, but he still apologized and bring full house vol 15 as he promised!!

Yoorim continue being b**ch and she throws tantrum at BYJ (because he disappeared) very different to NHD who understand him, and she keep being mad at NHD for no absolutely no reason eventhough the coach only supporting her (poor NHD she doesnt get any support from the coach)

The cinematography when NHD enter the vanue is so so so pretty. Wow props to the director, who is consistent giving us such high quality cinematography since eps 1

Another good eps! I already miss them

OMG I had the exact thought!!! I was thinking the casting for a middle-aged YJ might show up in the later part of the series, and my first thought was "Gong Yoo would fit the bill". (In terms of built, height, image and also because he is from the same company as Nam Joo Hyuk) haha.

Please please!I hope they will surprise us with cameo of middle aged BYJ (so NO sad ending)

Gong yoo is a good choice and he also promoted this series (is this spoiler? Lol) I actually didnt know that he and NJH are close

The other one that I hope is Jo In Sung since he and NJH have brother relationship (love them during unexpected business), Jo In Sung is also fit because he is tall and his face looks like NJH?

Me too! At this point, she is just being childish and petty. NHD never did anything wrong, like losing a match? As a professional fencer, you got to learn how to lose. If she is so concerned about it, then she is not meant for the sport (if you're stuck in the past, you won't be able to grow).

I agree with your point. Imagine if she treat every of her opponent like that after she lose? It doesnt make sense because in the sport you will lose and win, its imposible to have 100% win rate. especially she lost against NHD when she was really small, NHD doesnt even remember her.

Being competitive inside and outside match is totally different, yoorim is petty af because she make it personal outside of the match toward NHD. Idk how writer make a rendem for her but I dont like her till this point

Also I dont really like how the actress played yoorim character. Idk about her before, but she sometimes looks blank and stiff, especially her eyes looks so dead (I'm sorry if anyone fan of her, just my honest opinion) I like the actress who played seung wan, I think she could playing yoorim better

P/s:- And Yoo Rim ah for goodness sakes, is it that hard to cheer on your team mate? And she says she's a light sleeper. Ugh still don't like her. If only she can be as nice to Hee Do as she is to Ji Woong. Again he's too cute ; he bears a grudge ha-ha.

Me to! I dont like yoorim, not even a bit. Just like NHD said, she is so two faced, she treats NHD like RickRoll'D eventhough NHD was fan of her, I don't understand why she need to be so harsh of NHD especially when NHD treat her so nice. Until now I still dont get it, even when the drama explained about yoorim once lost match against NHD. I probably would get it IF that is her part of personality, but yoorim is really really nice to everyone, yet she only harsh to NHD, thats the worst kind of person

  8. Eps 5 (contain spoiler)

    Spoiler

This eps is so painful to watch, especially BYJ. Wow honestly this time is his worst time ever. I suddenly feels more pain if they decided to make him die after what hes been going through. .while NHD, eventhough she is lonely because BYJ is far away, but she is living her best life with her fencing. I hope the things will get better in next eps and BYJ will become reporter ASAP dan they will reunite

Please don't mind about the rating from now because a lot high rated drama will comeback today and have same slot with 25 21. Personally I don't really care about the rating because whataver the rating is, the drama is still good so far!

Well I guess its time to yijin will move with his younger brother? the location might be the near of beach(?), because in some teasers they are playing in the beach few times, I dont think its a trip because they went there so often, someone must be living near beach

@simplesim dont be sad sis, its just theory, not 100% true. . .lets just enjoy our young OTP moments. Honestly I dont mind sad ending, but they need to compesate with giving us full 16 eps of our OTP, and only separated (if the sad theory ending was true) in the very last scene. I still have hope that theres a plot twist ending.

  10. Thanks for all updates! I keep coming back here, because I love and obsessed with this drama so much.

@rocher22 I love NHD personality lol. She is really out going and simple, I was laughing when she just casually answer OK, then move on like nothing happened

@Dev11O I guess thats the writer intention so we keep dicussing and guessing the ending, so we are more invested our time to this drama lol

About the ending (read at your own risk) :

    Spoiler

Well I hate to say this but, baek yijin is more likely to die instead of yoorim, like someone already mentioned before about the lyrics of 'Twenty Five Twenty One' it is about the separation, I doubt its about yoorim because its about BYJ and NHD age, 25 21.

One line of the lyric is :

I thought it would last forever, 25, 21

So the separation might happen when they are 25 21. They fell in love in that age but also separated later.

This explain why KMC didnt recognize BYJ because she never meet or see him. It's weird because if BYJ still alive and become reporter, his face must be everywhere and KMC could recognize him, even with his 'young' face. His face must be familiar, especially if grandma also meet him recently, BYJ is also member of 5 friends gang and close friend of her mom, but KMC didnt know him at all. My guess BYJ might be die at young age, at the age of their separation '25'. . . .

I don't think YJ loves HD yet as well. He likes her a lot, true, but not in a romantic way. You're right, she gives him hope, gives him happiness albeit sort, gives him encouragement and gives him "life". She's becoming his world, a beacon of light and hope. You can have someone like that and not feel any romantic feelings. Also, she is 4 years younger than him, and he probably just sees her as a kid. 4 years is nothing in the world of adults, but for a teenage with 17 years old and an adult with 21 years old international age, there's a difference in emotions and maturity.

But HD did see YJ in a different way at the end of ep4, in a very swoony way ahahah :D He will become her first love soon.

True. Because Yijin is also nice to everyone, like to his younger brother, yoorim and her mom. While heedoo so far only being nice to Yijin lol. He is adult too, he probably put a wall for himself that he wont fall to high school student (but he will later on!)

I love that heedoo will have her first love experience, which I expect more cute and funny behaviour from her, lol

  13. @kboramint thanks for your theory. I also want to believe that and keep being positive lol

@Kathia yes. .theres 2 person that might die. I honestly dont want to talk about it and being negative but its long 1 week to go before new eps, we need something to discuss right? And keep this discussion and thread alive.

    (((((Spoiler)))))

    1. Baek yijin. reason :

    - He didnt end up with NHD and KMC surname is kim. They were totally in love and promise to being happy together, only 1 reason they couldnt be together that BYJ died.

    - KMC only ask about 'who's baek yijin?' it could be because she doesn't know about yijin but know the rest of his mom squad. it's weird because he is close friend of his mom. If they didnt ended as lover but yijin is also part of 5 friends, its imposible that his mom never met him at all. So the only reason is BYJ might be die when he was young. . .

    - Grandma said she already met him, it could be his grave not him as person, NHD expression after that is kinda sad.

    - This is my own thinking that BYJ as reporter could also have a purpose. he would die but his old recording and voice still can be heard because of that, so NHD still can listen to his voice and remembered him. .

    2. Yoorim

    - on the way NHD met yoorim in eps 1, NDH holding white flower (sorry I dont know the name) that usually use for mourning

    - grandma suddenly remembered about yoorim

I suddenly remember joo young said in interview that this drama might bring a lot of tears (possible of sad ending)

    spacer.png

So whataver it is, lets just keep watching and find out. I dont want to believe that BYJ would die tho, he is such a likeable character and never done anything wrong. Also his life was the saddest among 5 friends yet they would kill him too? No no, thats way too cruel, I'm sure the writer wont go there, unless they want to be hated for life lol

I thought Hee-do talked about Yu-rim by saying "that kid". It was an ambiguous move from the writer to let us eager to see what "boy" she was excited to see, only to end up being a "girl" instead (her idol). At least, that's what I thought when watching ep1.

Based on the synopsis, there won't be large time-skips, at least during their youths. They keep meeting every year until falling in love. There's no major time skip from 22-18 years old to 25-21 years old (as they will hurt each other at 23-19 years old and rely on each other at 24-20 years old). So, I doubt Yi-jin will live with his parents and keep out of sight from Hee-do (moreover, he'll work as a reporter and she'll be at the national fencing team, which means they will keep crossing paths with one another).

I love the theory that Hee-do adopted the girl from a close friend. The writer and director are trolling us with that present-day narrative. But if it's truly a sad ending, then they will ruin a wonderful drama that could've been perfect.

    Thats a nice theory!

I assume that he would move from this

    spacer.png

    spacer.png

BYJ and his brother riding truck, I assume that they would move to his parents and reunite again as family, and BYJ looks really sad and gloomy. If they only want to visit their parents then they should riding bus/train not truck, but it could be something else (them not moving)

Actually that's really nice if BYJ will become sport reporter and NHD become national fencer so they can keep meeting as profesional and in same work field. Because they can't keep meeting at bookstore since NHD already becoming adult and busy and BYJ also has big jump progress on his carreer

can't wait until they get together!  I'm just scared of what will happen in 1 year as synopsis says that they will hurt each other. I'm guessing it's something about circumstances tearing them apart?

From the long preview, I think BYJ would move to somewhere else? Probably reunite to his family? Knowing his personality, I hope it would be only little missunderstanding or he had to move for his family since BYJ already had promise with his father to reunite, not something serious, because after they meet again at 25 21 and they confirm their love

About the ending since everyone talks about it, I might sound too positive but I like the theory that KMC isnt NHD's biological child, since we had 5 friends together who are VERY close, it possible that KMC is one of NHD's squad child.

Because I still can't see why BYJ and NHD couldn't be together, they are each other first love, they are each other 'youth', build their dreams and achieve it together, they persue happiness together. . I'm sure their bond is too strong to be apart then married with other person. Our first 4 eps so far are good, I dont think they will ruin it in the end like that, its not that this drama is melo or makjang either. I hope in the last eps BYJ would reunite with NHD and become happy ending.

  16. Wow. This eps is the best out of 4 eps so far. I laughed a lot, but we also got a lot of lessons from the script. Idk who the writer is, but the script are really really good, props to her/him.

I honestly care less about what grandma said in this eps, thats how good this eps is. But imo they should focus on what happened in the past, instead ruining viewers hope for end the game couple, because they don't need it! Especially when they have a lot of good things in the drama without 'noise' hint about who is NHD's husband

This drama deserve more rating increase tbh, the last eps only go up by 0.2. Sigh. I guess because a lot of people already expect sad ending because of NHD's child last name. .? This drama is so so good, it would be really waste if they keep give unnecesarry hint and makes viewers only talking about the possible 'bad' ending, so I will trying not to bother about who will be NHD's husband, to appreciate more of this drama

  17. Wow eps 3 is so good! Its make me laugh then sad then laugh then sad again, this drama really did that to me lol

Since probably most of people here havent watch the new eps, I want to talk a bit about the casts.

KTR is such a gooood actress, it's not easy at all to play NHD, physically and emotionally, and to play a 18yo when she is already 31yo. .but she matched the role so well. During the drama I keep forgeting that she is already 31 in RL lol

NJH also, he nailed his role. I think this is his best role so far. If this drama rating keep going up and become blockbuster drama, I think NJH could become an icon of first love? Since the drama is a nostalgia and baek yijin is such a perfect role, he is a good friend, good brother, good son, smart, handsome and kind, I'm sure soon he will also become a good boyfriend to NHD.  Actually I feel that NJH also has vibes of first love, he has soft features and boyish look, he really represent 'youth'. No wonder the production drama casted him to play BYJ, and BYJ is perfect role for him. Well whataver it become, I think he finally can prove himself with this role, especially after his last drama

  18. I swear this drama is so addicting, its been a long time that I'm addicted to a kdrama again.

This type of drama is my fav, light and simple, the nostalgia part is a bonus. The directing especially is really good, the transition and the cinematography are so smooth and pretty. Love the OSTs too, Idk what the last song in eps 2, but its been stuck in my head until now lol. The leads also have good chemistry and acting. Honestly I couldnt ask for better, the 2 first eps are gold and I cant wait for more tommorow
