  1. I have been replaying S1 and S2 scenes. Sigh I miss this brilliant ensemble of cast and writer/PD so much.

Watching SM-YJ's farewell scene in S1 vs S2, I feel like SM's gaze towards YJ seems different. In S1 it felt like he didnt particularly feel sad to leave. And they were playful with each other like good friends. But in S2, I sensed some melancholy, softness in his gaze. Even when YJ started eating, he continued to look at her. I think he may worry about how YJ is going to be without a support system, her Yong San team and of course him.

Though I dont know what content of story will be best for S3, perhaps YJ and SM taking on higher ranked roles, i would love to see the whole gang back together again and again until S5!!

  2. @larus thanks for sharing the news!! Im hoping we wouldnt have to wait too long for the confirmation. But yet we want to make sure writer LSY has enough time to get her materials for another great season! And for coz, stranger will not be the same without SM YJ, SDJ, yong san police team and the prosecutor team! Lets hope S3 pulls through and the characters remain intact with the familiar names agreeing to reprise their roles.

  3. We need the PD and writer to explain to us the mystery of Jang Geon's face scar! we spent a week analysing how he could have been involved! Could it really be that the part where he got injured was edited out eventually?

I wished each episode was longer so that we could prolong the enjoyment.

    Spoiler

Even Record of Youth episodes (romance genre) are almost 1h and a half sometimes!

I loved every scene in the last ep. The way Kang Won Chul made sure to visit Hanjo even after he resigned so that he could express what he felt LCJ's thoughts would be on LYJ's LYJ's behavior. And for SM to visit KWC. I am so proud that KWC lived up to what LCJ believed he could be for SM- a good boss, life mentor, someone who has his back and would give him a helping hand. It was realistic how KWC himself realised he had also sullied himself in a way that had negative consequences though perhaps in many eyes, it may just be closing one eye (something minor) but that is how corruption starts.

Loved loved the dream scene actually because of what it symbolised. And i loved how YJ picked up the part about Yoon possibly having a hard time in prison, and deciding to just check in on him. That is how YJ is, always very perceptive of everyone's feelings around her. Even though Yoon made wrong decisions, she treated him as a friend and wanted him to know that he should not let that define him. And she gave him that extra reasons to hold on. For sure, we could tell Yoon was likely having a hard time in prison, perhaps living with the consequences of his decisions and feeling so so alone given his disheveled look as compared to the first time YJ saw him. Im happy we found out who the parcel came from too! Kyungwannie!

I am still in awe of BDN's acting here. The way she stood up to her bullies at work without flinching, but once she heard Jang Geon's call, her face crumpled and my heart ached for her.

I am happy that the show ended with her remaining at HQ, instead of going back to yongsan. And the seat that she left behind at Yongsan is finally taken by someone else. I hope she would show everyone and CB how she could shine and climb up the ranks even without connections, and by following her beliefs.

I feel SM's chat with CB was like this major declaration of support for YJ. The way he worried for her, and went way out for her. The way he said he trusted CB to do the right thing for he trusts in YJ's judgement. Major aww moment for me.

The way these 2 support each other is the best. I felt SM's concern when he specifically asked if there is a chance YJ wouldnt be okay. I feel sad that we end off with them separated again though im glad SM has office manager Kim in Wonju.

My heart cannot take that S2 has ended :(

I am starting E16 with anticipation and with a slightly heavy heart knowing that we have come to the end of this wonderful journey called Stranger S2.

I hope the subs for the final episode will come out as quickly as it did yesterday. I initially thought there might be a pace problem towards the end, but it has been great so far. I mean, SDJ was in captivity for about a week? No more than 2 weeks logically.

So, the weird observation of SDJ's wife is mere red herring?

LYJ is fast becoming a favourite character too. I hope she will still appear in S3 if we come to that. We haven't dig up enough about her this season. I think deep down she was really affected by her husband's death and secrets.

I am still waiting on E16 to come out on my local Netflix. E14 came out really quickly last weekend.

I would really love to see WTH's downfall. The way he behaved when cornered was just disgraceful. He scrambled to save himself in any way possible, even if it meant dragging other people into the mud.

CB i believed has some redeeming features. She was dragged in, yes by her own ambition and by her own choice. But she owned up to it in front of YJ when confronted.

I loved seeing how SM silently worried about YJ. You could tell it from the way he was silently observing her, from the interrogation scene with ex intelligence bureau director and the face off with WTH. Not so much for himself, coz i believe he would have no qualms pressing forward even if he were to be penalised. But he gently reminded YJ that WTH meant what he said and she could definitely get convicted by the end of this all.

BDN was gold in this ep! I could feel her disappointment with CB. Someone you could tell she really looked up too. Someone she respected enough to change herself to meet CB's expectations.

We are coming to the end... :tears:  I am thrilled we got to see a second season.  Even more thankful it was a fantastic one.  Everyone in the production should be proud of what they have worked

I know we may  not get full resolution of all our questions, not everyone will have closure.  I am ok with it since this is the writer's style.  I do want our characters, esp SM, YJ, DJ, CP Kang, LYJ to be in a happy place at the end.  If season 3 does happen, I will be ecstatic.  If not, please at least end with ShiMok eating a home cook meal with his mum.

@bedifferent bonus points if SM's mom gets to see how YJ takes care of SM, perhaps stumble upon them having a meal together outside and the mom witnessing how SM can smile (gasp!) and  enjoy himself with YJ. Seeing that, the mom invites SM back for a home cooked meal, together with YJ next time.

    One can only wish <3

I am waiting for the smiles from SM in E15-16. Thinking it will likely come in E16 given that we still have a lot to wrap up for the cases. Perhaps YJ and SM could visit prosecutor yoon together, and SM telling Yoon that he (perhaps) sent the parcel?

  7. There was also this scene in ep 14 after SM reported about nabbing KHJ to WTH and KSH was in the room as well. The camera panned to KSH's face and he said something along the lines that "i didnt expect the culprit to be you (KHJ)". He had a very odd expression too. By right he wounldnt have known KHJ or the tongyeong case so why would he say something like that. Unless he had a hand in closing the tong yeong case with this mysterious prosecutor ryu that has not appeared.

I rmb reading one of your theories that KSH is linked to prosecutor ryu and helped to close the assembly man's case. Im thinking this theory could be possible.

  8. I rewatched ep 14! i still feel the excitement of watching it the first time round haha!

Who called WTH when he was watching the rescue of SDJ live on TV? He had a pensive look on his face like he didnt want to pick up the call. Is this linked to the fake witness, but doesnt seem like he will know? Unless the call is from SM who was notifying him after YJ's update. But why would he have had that reaction if he is not linked to the fake witness.

And yes I definitely believe KHJ did not do this on his own. Apart from the fact that it'd be physically difficult, he just doesnt seem like he would have planned to kidnap SDJ from the start just because SDJ wanted to meet with him. It's obvious that SDJ did not have any evidence at that time if not he would have came with some arrest warrant or summon him to the prosecutor office instead of meeting him at itaewon.

  9. I cant put my finger to why JG would have gotten that cut on his face. Other than him being ordered to check out the GPS lead, he was rather prominently absent from SDJ's rescue and the nabbing of the fake witness. Could he have gone by the fake witness's house earlier to get back the police watch? Or was he told to plant some evidence at the fake witness place to link him to the prosecutors? That would definitely incriminate the prosecutors and be a driving force for them to lose their indictment rights. She may have been able to convince JG that they were not lying but are doing it for a good cause.

Yes i do feel CB had a reason to recruit JG somehow. Why else would she have asked YJ to rope in a ground detective with such specific requirements (seniority, age), it's almost as if she wanted YJ to pick JG. So far, CB hasnt been portrayed as the ultimate evil, coz it seemed like she was mostly an assistant to WTH. But let's not forget that she is the chief of intelligence, there is surely a lot she knows that she is not letting on.

How will she benefit from planting the police watch though? Or could she have known KSH had roped the fake witness in but chose to keep quiet. And now that things have exploded, she is cashing in to reveal the link between fake witness and KSH. Was that why JG was oddly kneeling down in the interrogation room? He wanted to pass the msg for fake witness to sell KSH out?

KSH was from seongnam criminal division and had the most direct link to the fake witness, and would be the most likely to be able to get the fake witness off the hook. I dont think it'd be difficult to link him to the fake witness based on CB's connections.

  10. I love ep14! Things were moving so quickly and i know they dont have much time to wrap up a lot of things, but im glad we had the time to see them slowly break Kim hu jeong instead of just fast forwarding to a confession (if u get what i mean). Coz the wait made it so much better.

I love how SM is the yang to YJ yin and vice versa. When YJ was aggressive and angry at first, SM calmed her down. When SM lost his bearings (for the first time i heard he cuss), YJ swooped in. While YJ was interrogating KHJ, though she was raising her voice, i nv felt that she was disrespecting KHJ. When KHJ was relating his bullying experience, could almost feel the empathy from YJ.

I really wanted YJ to notice SM's injured hand and help him with the dressing LOL. I guess not:(

SM's acting in the last scene was great. I love the range cho seung woo shows as SM, as a character with no emotions but he is awesome! He is definitely a master artist (for YJ).

I am excited for the last 2 eps but i am sad that it is ending. I havent had enough of YJ SM!! I know it is unlikely we will get a S3. Even if the writer does plan to, we can't be sure CSW or BDN will want to reprise their characters unless they see some major growth or challenge in taking up the project. Can writer nim pls give us a good good ending for SM YJ please?? One that we can happily tuck away in our replay list for years to come.

  11. Ahh i havent watched ep 14 but am prepared for the worst for SDJ

I loved the throwback to young eunsu. Sometimes in second seasons, writers dont do the characters in S1 that much justice or depict the character growth through seasons well, but i think writer did it well here to give us these poignant throwbacks. TBH when i saw SM giving the junior prosecutor a second look when she was holding her subway card, i thought he was gonna offer her a ride home. Haha coz i rmb he made young eunsoo take the subway home in S1.

I love how SM is comfortable to share his innermost thoughts with YJ. Yeah yeah gave up on the love line or romance but the talk with CB was interesting haha!

Some thoughts.   If the whole kidnapping was concocted and DJ was “in on it” to a certain degree, and it’s say an inside job with WTH planning it to try to swing the public opinion against the Police by insinuating that it was Segok Police that were involved, what about the cryptic note about washing the dishes?  And the fact that it seemed like the culprit had a vendetta (against the Prosecution only?  Or with the Police?). That doesn’t match up.  Unless WTH is doing what he did with the witness, utilizing the small people who were happy to oblige and be used as pawns in the process?  Or maybe DJ wasn’t in on it but WTH planned it all using the boys who were bullies to kidnap DJ.  He didn’t intend for DJ to be hurt.  Which is why he was frantic when he found him motionless.  He didn’t expect his hired hands to be vindictive and aggressive or to have an agenda of their own and took the whole process to the next level?

Or...WTH had nothing to do with the kidnapping but was opportunistic and decided, hey let’s just milk this for all its worth.  Plant the witness and shift public opinion against the Police by incriminating Capt Baek?

Im thinking WTH has nothing to do with the kidnapping but is just riding on it to milk some benefits. I still don't think WTH-CB are the ultimate evils here somehow. Yes, they may have gotten lost in the game along the way but not to the extent of kidnap, assault? Hopefully they still have that redeeming feature.

Side note, watching record of youth and realised the director is our beloved director of S1!!

  13. I feel like my replay button is stuck on ep 12 <3  Did CSW say he will smile at least 3 times in S2? I am waiting on more smiles, and i pray PD will give his next smile more airtime instead of cutting away so quickly!! We need zoom in and slow mo ++

Does anyone know if SM and YJ use formal way of speaking with each or is it casual? I know SM sounds v formal so far but YJ sometimes sound casual, her way of speaking though i dont know if she is doing ban-maal?

  14. @farawayland yes i love love this writer. I havent watched Life but i think i will watch it next for Cho Seung Woo and writer nim.

I wonder whether the drowning case will surface again? 4 episodes seem too short to tie up all the loose ends?!

I dont understand why Hanjo would want to kill PGS just because he told his wife about working with Hanjo. Wondering if he could have died of a heart attack at the vacation house while in a secret meeting with LYJ's brother or some Hanjo heads? They had to dump his body somewhere just to ensure no one would link him.to hanjo. He for sure had too low alcohol levels to be considered as drink driving. Since the theme of S2 is about staying silent, it could be that no one orchestrated any murder like in S1 but everyone somehow stayed silent. Like how Kim Su Hang stayed silent and kept Song's suicide note?

  15. @nrllee i thought the way WTH had very conspicuously joined CB in the supposed meeting with Lawyer Oh was weird too. WTH said he will make it look like he was just dropping in to greet a senior, but that would have been odd imo. WTH and CB have so far been very distant in public, and it is only in private that we as viewers get to see that they go way back. Whether it was a joint connection from covering things up together or even way before that.

I cant fathom that CB would cover this up for her husband. Well we have nv had a chance to dwell into her backstory or family, so we cant tell if she has good relations with her husband or not. But from how she talked about PGS's wife, it feels like she was in a similar position- having to cover something up for her husband perhaps?

    From doonabae ig

Ahh writer nim sent her a coffee truck!

O that makes sense then.  Why she was pressured to cover it up or her husband would lose his job.  As for why WTH said she “shouldered” it all, it’s because she was Chief then.  Buck stops with her.  She would be the fall guy if things go south.  She made sure all those little details were conveniently left out of the file.  Who was in charge of the case on the Prosecution side of things for PGS - was it Ryu?  Only Prosecutors are allowed to close cases.

If i rmb correctly, it was SDJ's junior prosecutor, who was training at his office then. She was asked to help with the case as it seemed "simple and straightforward".

Im suspicious of Dir Park. The way he handled the wads of cash in ep 12 was off-putting. It was as if he felt the money was filthy by the way he tossed it. Could he be related to PGS somehow? Perhaps PGS's son, brother? And the baby crying at PGS's wife house is his kid? I feel like the kid's crying just shows PGS has some family that has not been revealed or further explored. But the only one i know with young children is SDJ's wife. And CB? Could CB have visited PGS's wife with her children as well, since both husbands have links to hanjo? Thats why she was convinced PGS's wife would not spill.

Can i say how much I love KWC? The way SM called him and got to the point by asking him if he was from the 25th class. KWC will always put him in his place by reminding him that he should introduce himself and say hello first. I have faith in him since LCJ chose him to mentor and help SM. Kim sa hyun has a bit of this vibes when he talks to SM personally.

My perfect ending for SM YJ will be for the show to reveal that SM has still been keeping all of YJ's drawings through his numerous moves across different offices in korea, and for SM to finally address YJ as Yeojin-ssi, instead of Lt Han. :D that's all i need, Show!

Yeah I couldn’t work that out either?  What’s in it for her?  They seem chummy?  Outside of their work?  Enough to drink together?  They tear each other apart in the Council meetings but behind the scenes they have an “understanding”?  Even if she did get the IB Chief job.  That’s sticking your neck out for someone who’s supposed to be your “enemy”?  There has to be something more?

I cant put my finger to WTH and CB's relationship. I know some of you have drawn comparisons between WTH-CB and SM-YJ. I do agree, just that they have both progressed in different ways, perhaps both doing what they thought best for their agenda vs sticking by their principles. WTH had mentioned more than once about CB shouldering things herself and I keep wondering where that came from. Though CB does show wariness about WTH whenever he appears to show 'good intentions' like meeting Lawyer Oh with her etc. We have not seen CB's husband come in the picture as well.

I agree that the PD seems to have a disconnect between even and odd episodes. Somehow not building up the momentum from the previous ep. Like how ep 9 ended with the clock and police watch but 2 eps later we have no inkling about that. Shouldnt they investigate who would owe a watch/clock with that police amblem? I wonder if this is really due to the pandemic. I wish for the scenes on the police-prosecutor council debate, we could have seen more long shots rather than always skipping from face to face every few seconds.

@nona88 ep 11 and 12 has been a dream! I smiled so so much in all the YJ SM scenes. Our dreams answered with them having a meal tgt, talking light heartedly together. Sm and YJ looking out for eaxh other, the staircase scene!! I realise how much ive missed them and that vibe between them. Thank you Show for finally giving us that! And SM's smile :D I could watch a full hour of SM and YJ alone.

@nona88 and @Gummi we have rooftop scene. It’s my most favourite and I have watched it multiple times.  It’s so poignant and beautiful that speaks volume about their journey and struggles since the end of S1.
Due to what is happening between police and prosecutor, the relationship between Shi-mok and Yeo-jin can’t help but being affected. Since the drowning case until episode 10, it’s only 24 days ( it does feel like months) it’s realistic that they couldn’t meet a lot since they are not working in the same case as S1. It started to change. I am sure we will see more of them together.
In a interview, when asked what is audience looking for in season 2, CSW said it is the partnership between SM and YJ.

I love the rooftop scene too <3<3

Has it only been 24 days?? Gosh ok that was a lot of happenings that it certainly felt like months of SM being back in Seoul.

I keep thinking SDJ's junior female prosecutor must have something to do with this. Especially with the lingering camera shots on her. Seems like she knows more than she lets on.

  19. @nona88 yes! I feel you! I get how how you feel! I was yesterday just wondering which scenes from S2 will stick with me, such that i will rewatch the show even after the initial mystery is done. I have rewatched S1 three times so far, mainly savoring the characters, the way we slowly feel for them e.g. Yoon prosecutor, LCJ even if we do not agree with their choices.

I agree that in S2, other than SDJ that I have actually seen character development, we havent had much of a chance to understand and feel for the new characters like WTH, CB so far. YJ seemed to have reclused into a shell, a shadow of her past self after the 2 years of being at HQ with CB. We can tell she looks up to CB, we havent really seen her put up a shield or filter with CB so far though CB has proven herself to be shady to a certain degree. While the old YJ was quick to stick by her principles even when faced with her police chief, her police colleagues when they did wrong.

Sm on the other hand is steadfast and unwavering in his principles, and his support for YJ. I would love to have more time to see and feel for the characters, even yeon jae, manager park.

I cant wait for eps 11 and 12 but yet i am sad that the next 6 eps will fly past super fast.

  20. @nona88 sending some love over!

@farawayland ah did CSW say that he has smiles this season? I must have missed that! May the last 6 episodes be chock filled with SM YJ moments, including some light hearted ones.

Yes seeing how netflix categorised this show as slow-burn and cerebral, very apt! I do see a lot of frustrated comments from Korean viewers as well, which I do understand, this show makes you earn your enjoyment. Not the kind that just loses steam with the mystery within 10 eps. I am excited to find out what happens next, and fingers crossed that we get our fill of SM YJ moments in the next 6 eps.

  21. @Lmangla  @partyon thanks for the polls! Will love to have more! I see that most people vote that SDJ is still alive (including me). As the episodes go on, my hope is diminishing though :( and with the search lights scene screencap i saw over in this forum, seems to give negative vibes!

Why did the culprit kidnap SDJ, and only harm him a while later? And cutting off the tie, why?? The segok police bunch will definitely not benefit from.sending the tie in to the police. Unless someone knocked him unconscious i.e. segok police chief and another person watched the scene unfold, and kidnapped him thereafter. Perhaps they kidnapped and wanted to silence SDJ to push the blame onto the ones who assaulted him. So the kidnapper hates both prosecutor and police.

Ok my mind is still in tangles..

  22. @pompyavi thanks for sharing the BTS. I feel like the BTS are the only place i am getting my dose of smiles from SM and YJ in S2!

@nona88 i get your fears. Don't get me wrong, i love the mystery i love the story and the suspense. But I feel it was a waste of SM-YJ's chemistry to not put them on screen together for more screen time. To develop their characters and background (for YJ) and how their relationship could progress. I am sad that we are past the halfway mark and we have not gotten a lot of time to savour the characters in S2. I wonder if it would be better to remove one of the cases so that we can get more invested in the remaining characters from the other cases (and of course more SM YJ time).

That being said, i love us being Sherlocks over here together. The beauty of this drama, 10 eps in and we are still grabbing at theories! Could the writer nim and PD nim just give us 1 full ep 17 to develop the "what could have beens" in SM YJ relationship that had taken the backseat currently in this crazy ride!

  23. I think the watch is planted as well. How on earth would the culprit be able to take a picture and be able to get his watch in it? And not QC properly before you want to send it off. It is like you just want to push everything to the cops. And how does Hanjo tie into all these?? We only know hanjo had ties with the dead park gwangsu chief prosecutor. I wonder why Lee seung jae (LYH's brother) hasnt appeared much though he is supposed to play a bigger role in S2. Why would Hanjo have to kill PGS just because he told people that he was helping Hanjo? What shady deal did he make with Hanjo and WTH, CB to drag everyone in the mud with his death? Why is his wife covering up as well, did WTH threaten her? Who is the baby with PGS's wife? How are we doing to tie up everything in 6 eps and still give us sufficient SM YJ time!

S2 is mind boggling! I am still waiting on our Ah-Ha moment where things get clearer!

  24. Finished ep 9! I do agree that the pace for this ep was a little lacking, from the high we had in ep 7-8. The show has done a good job building up until now, i agree that we should be having a lot more unravelling than more and more fog at this stage. @nona88 do agree about the PD as well =.=, wish that some scenes were done tighter.

I wish SM and YJ can have their usual informal dinners where they talk things over rather than having those crowded scenes with the whole big investigative police team. Dont feel like the crowd of police actually adds any value to the scene as compared to if we just tightened the group down to the key team members doing the discussion.

That being said, i am still excited to see this whole thing finally unravel. SdJ's wife is just so suspicious to me. Her weird reactions, mostly overly calm when she first appeared at the police station or when watching news with her son. They must have sent SDJ to the juvenile department for a reason. Working with youth, bullying and all may have been that link to the tongyeong boys. Not sure how that links to the dead prosecutor though. Too much fog! Pls let things clear up a little or have some major revelation at least in the next ep.
