Yah iam hoping too, but K or no K their stares and gesture are enough to make me giddy... Those sweet longing, small smile i just cant..

THIS^^^. Yes, a kiss or many will be welcome but the smiles, longing stares, the deep looks, the concern in the absence of the other, the worry for their well being - all these are depicting a deep love far more better than physical intimacy.

I like some skinship and physical intimacy as much as the next fan, but tbh, some of the fans getting too disappointed at the lack of it is getting on my nerves. To them I say, fellow fans,  find the beauty and love in all the little things that are being shown - don't they make your heart flutter? don't these moments leave you with a longing for more?  If yes, then the writer has done her job well.

All credit to @taeri_yeosin instagram - Guys, have you seen this spoiler: Face off at the kiln site.  Looks like Eugene will make it safely to the kiln. Hmm, he left the RA guy tied up and arrested, so I wonder how he is pointing a gun at Eugene. Look to the extreme right of the pics - you can see Ae Shin's dark coat too. Looking forward to this scene very much.

    2.  The Japanese minister said LWI holds power over GDM, Allen, the emperor of Joseon, and the minister post.  Which is four already right? LOL  Anyway, I am thinking the fourth one could be Eugene.  Right now, Eugene doesn't know Emperor sent Joseph on a mission that leads to his death.  Unleashing the fact that the letter exists will bring Eugene to confront the Emperor +/- LJM, further eroding any trust the Americans have with Joseon.  The other person could be Lord Go whose innocence depends on the letter existence.

Wan Ik was talking about killing four birds with one stone. The fourth, as we found out was Ae Shin's grandfather whom WI tried to unsuccessfully frame for Joseph's murder. Dong Mae ended up being rescued by Eugene. In the end, the only bird that WI was able to hit was the King himself - basically humiliating the King and demanding the post of the Minister with so much audacity was a huge win for WI.

I am pretty sure that is not goodbye. It is Eugene coming to her house to meet her grandfather (in the course of his investigation). If you remember E4, Hui Seong first arrives at Ae Shin's house walking along the same pathway that Eugene is on in the above pics.  That pathway is a bit elevated  - remember how Hui Seong glimpsed Ae Shin while on it and he stood on tip toe to get a better look?

Regarding the pics of Dong Mae all tied up - are those Joseon soldiers? Or Japanese? Because the moustached man on the left in one the pictures looks like Minister Hayashi's man.

Assuming that it is a glimpse of the future, and she does go to America with Eugene, I keep wondering how that will work story wise. She's been all about the Rebel cause for ten+ years, so for her to abandon Joseon takes away from what we liked about her resolve in the first place. I know love makes you do crazy things, and I do want to see her struggle with the idea of running away with him and just being able to be happy without worrying about class differences but if she really did that, would we still be able to call her our heroine? Especially with the Japanese occupation just 6-8 years away?

@luna11 How does it make Ae Shin any less of a heroine if she thought about herself for once? The only life she has known is that of a fighter and her wishes have always been to burn like a  flame and wilt. For the first time in her life, she is daring to think of how her life can take another path - a path involving life with Eugene away from Joseon - and there is nothing wrong in that, it does not make her lesser. In fact, it makes her a normal human being with normal desires and wishes instead of a zealot who only longs to burn bright and end. She isn't the Joan of Arc of Joseon that you would demand nothing but sacrifice from her. There are tons of others fighting for the cause.  so it's not like the fate of Joseon rests on her shoulders alone.

In preview, Eunsan seems to order Aeshin to kill someone regardless of that someone's identity. and Eugene's saying that she will not fail the mission because he'll not dodge(the bullet?). But before they have led us astray mixing lines and scenes out of order in preview, so who knows? At this point, I guess anything is possible except the fact that EC will not die. :)

Fully agree with you about the intentionally misleading previews.  They have been clever like that from the start. It's nice to see that the promo dept. is putting in an effort to keep viewers on the tenterhooks.

    Text preview for episode 14:

Angered by Joseph's death, Eugene seeks the murderer and in doing so facing Righteous Army's hidden identity...

Upon Eugene's investigation on Righteous Army, Eunsan makes a inevitable decision ...!

Thanks for the synopsis. Looks like Eugene's investigation will point him towards the RA - but is the RA really behind Joseph's death? What if they are being set up as fall guys by Wan Ik? Remember E3 ending? Even Eugene used the excuse of RA to officially conclude that the death of Logan Taylor was at their hands.

Eunsan makes a inevitable decision ...! - hmm, some source of great conflict. Inevitable decision as in revealing his true identity to Ae Shin and ordering her to kill Eugene? Or inevitable decision as in looping in Eugene on everything related to the Righteous Army?

Hmm looks like Eugene will turn rogue in the next episode... If I have to guess, there was probably some sort of conspiracy behind X’s death...

So currently Joseon is having trouble trying to get US to loan money and Japan has been pressuring them as well... Joseon could be the one who killed X and they might try to pin the blame on Japan (aka Lee Wan Ik) to incite the US to make a move...

Gu Dong Mae, on the other hand, was probably suspected of being the one who murdered X under the orders of Japan or Lee Wan Ik hence he was arrested by the US and tortured to reveal the name of the person who gave the order..

US has been pretty neutral so far in Joseon but the murder of a US citizen would simply cause a rift between these two countries which would benefit Joseon since this might mean US will finally make a stand against Japan by lending $$ to Joseon to build that railway (for example)... it is like the saying; my enemy’s enemy is my ally...

While investigating X’s death, Eugene would find that all clues and evidence point towards Joseon... That minister who always hovers around the Emperor was probably the one who solicited Potter Hwang’s help in all of this for the good of Joseon.. So Potter Hwang probably ordered someone in the Righteous Army to murder X and make it look like Japan was the one who did the deed.. When Eugene found out, he probably went berserk and went to visit Potter Hwang with that gun in his hand in the previews but Potter Hwang (possibly sensing Eugene’s affection for Ae Shin and vice versa) probably gave AS the order to stand-by and shot whomever came... She probably didn’t foresee that her target this time would be Eugene... Talk about prophecy- she did warn him that she might kill him next when they first met in the pharmacy..

P.S.: Ae Shin’s grandpa was probably the real leader of Righteous Army- who knows. So if Righteous Army did indeed carry out the murder for Joseon then it’d be like Ae Shin’s grandpa was the one who murdered X which would make the romance tad bit more complicated now... Well tad bit is probably too mild of a word- a lot more is probably more appropriate since now Eugene and Ae Shin will have social status and blood stand in between of their growing affections... I hope I am just dead wrong on this one though

hence he was arrested by the US and tortured to reveal the name of the person

The people torturing Dong Mae in the preview are Japanese, not  the U.S.

Your theory about RA killing Joseph to incite the US against the Japanese is good but I respectfully disagree. Yes, the King's Vice Chamberlain, Lord Leo Jung Mun wanted the potter to ensure that the missionary returned to Hanseong as soon as possible - this could be for two reasons - the King wanted to use Joseph to send a message to the American Minister in Qing or Leo Jung Mun wanted to use Joseph to persuade Eugene to take the King's offer (to train his troops).  If you recall, Ep 1, Joseph and the potter had a friendly relationship - so even if RA are innocent of the crime, Eugene may still end up blaming them because the King, Leo Jung Mun and the RA  - all wanted to use Joseph and this contributed towards his death. The only way I can see that Eugene backs down from his rage is that if he comes to know that Joseph was already willingly helping the King and the RA.

I could be wrong.. it looks like a Marines' uniform (the blue coat).. Kyle???! :o :(

Do you remember the pic of Ae Shin's father shown in last week's episode - the one that was with the assassin who betrayed him so many years ago and is now with Eugene - it had writing on its back, no? So, could the document in Ae Shin's hand be that picture? Maybe Eugene gives it to her and she cries when she sees her father's picture for the first time.  I could be totally wrong and it is some letter from Eugene conveying a tragedy befallen on him.

@rubieThe new scenes are hilarious. Thanks for posting here.

'Mr Sunshine' LBH and BYH fighting against the group of ronins raising temperature of TV.

@Ahphengas always, your strips are awesome. Annul the engagement one made me laugh out loud.

My speculation about these stills : Ae Shin has to pay her debt to Dong Mae. She goes alone to Jingogae. HS and Eugene come to know of this - both arrive there separately or maybe together, are refused entry and face off against the ronins. Some scuffle must happen because Eugene is injured in one of the stills.

No, that's WI's stooge stole from post office, to find information about missionaries in Northern part of the Korea, where Joseph is. The letter is from Joseph to Eugene, and seems to contain only personal information. But they're combining several information and WI ordered EC's room searched as well as his arm and leg broken.(Hah!)

Another thing we now know is, Joseph is a father figure to Eugene. Here is the 2nd page of the Joseph's letter, where Joseph is calling Eugene as his son.

I should erase the word barely as ... medicine was quite expensive for a poor missonary.

    I miss you, Eugene.

I learned how to make rice wine recently, ( ) bring some on my way to meet you. I will try not to empty it before I .... Hanseong.

Eugene, my noble one, the great one. My son.

I pray for your wherever you are. May God be with you always, .....

So... in my eye, this raises the chance of Joseph being killed by WI, thus making Eugene furious and will try to avenge his death. Eugene's losing another parent again. :tears:

Thanks for the info. Looks more and more plausible with each passing episode that Joseph is going to get killed. Poor, poor Eugene - as you perfectly said - it will be like losing his parents all over again.

For Ae Shin, he is a ray of sunshine, hence her Mr. Sunshine. But for once, he will be the one in dire need of some ray of sunshine and hope in his 'soon to be even more sad'' life.

At the end, he wanted her to keep the gloves (and him close) for protection though it's better if she doesn't hurt herself again.

So,after the  heart to heart talk between Ae shin and Eugene at the beginning of this episode, can we safely say that the only thing keeping them apart is the rigid and unforgiving social structure of Joseon? That both of them are in love with each other, is quite clear and Eugene's action of taking a step back at this point is to ensure that Ae Shin doesn't end up getting hurt in the future - a hurt which she would have surely experienced in greater magnitude if their love solidified more with passing time but still eventually came crashing down against the social barriers of Joseon.

The fight scene was a beauty! AS is looking for court interpreters' reports to WI. - JM asked for it in the previous scene and Hunter Jang asked AS's help. -

So the document/letter that Ae Shin found, the one where she was a bit surprised to find  Eugene Choi's name written in it - is it part of the court interpreters reports to Wan Ik or is it something completely different?

When Eugene and Ae Shin come across each other on that bridge in the E12 preview, look closely at Eugene's hand - he is holding a red pinwheel. Does this mean Ae Shin placed that red pinwheel before going on a mission, despite knowing that he was soon leaving Joseon? Does this mean he went to the apothecary to see her? ARGH! These two!! Pretty sure that this scene will be in the beginning of E12. So, I am still holding out hope that the episode ends on a happy note forEugene/Ae Shin.

Ahem! you mean E12, right? Interesting that there are two vastly different(with small amount of same scenes) previews for tomorrow's episode. I wonder if Eugene's investigation of that assassin is keeping him in Joseon and maybe events unfold in such a way that he never leaves.

Netflix replied one of my IG followers regarding this weekend's Ep "We're Pretty sure you'll be smiling by Ep 12"

I may sound too pessimistic but I just don't trust these generic statements from social media accounts of shows.

    Spoiler

"We're pretty sure you will be smiling by E12"

Well, it can be as simple as some comedy involving Kim Hui Seong or even Gwan Su, the interpreter that makes us smile. And the instagram account would still be technically right - the most annoying kind of right.

Lol I like the optimistic view... seriously though- when are we gonna get a kiss??? Arghh.. at the rate this is going, this drama might end without a kiss at all... sigh...

Given the time period that this drama is set in, I am not expecting much PDA at all. In the absence of PDA, any and all gestures, looks, facial expressions etc etc - the little things - these are the ones I look out for. Eh! Who am I kidding? I would still go gaga over any and all kisses.

One thing though, I am happy that so far there hasn't been any forceful (without consent) kissing of the female lead by any of the male leads, specially the secondary leads. kdramas have an affliction when it comes to that.

Speculation about  tonight's duel?  I think it will end in a scenario where one of them sees the other's face(and if that happens, I am leaning towards Kudo Hina seeing Ae Shin's face) or maybe both see each other's faces. Either way, the prospect of a good 'sismance'  taking shape is not out of the question. What do you guys think?

Omg first scene of tomorrow’s episode already another teary-eyed goodbye??? I would have preferred a goodbye hug or a goodbye kiss rather than a goodbye handshake... they need to take this to the next level!

OPTIMISTIC VIEW - Much better than a simple handshake. Gives her the gloves when he is at arms length to her but then moves closer, takes her hands in his and puts the gloves in/on them. Gentle, intimate and sweet.

PESSIMISTIC VIEW - He gets close to her, holds her hands and gives her the gloves, maybe even puts them on but she returns them as they part ways.

@Ahpheng - Those set of latest Eugene/Ae Shin pics are perfect material for your strips. Looking forward to see how you will caption them.

My heart would flutter like crazy if she indeed keeps the gloves, puts them on during her mission/s and smell them whenever she is reminded of Eugene. Being reminded of an absent loved one and smelling their clothes or belongings is quite the cliche TV/movie trope but I still love it very much.

I absolutely loved his entrance in E09, rolling in, wearing a coat like that with his guards all around him. Great scene. I also liked his views about Eugene  in E10 when he is speaking to Leo Jung-Mun "I feel drawn towards him" - when I heard that, I was like:"Eugene, don't be sad about AS. Upgrade to the King as your royal bae."

    Could very well be possible.

RE: Your strip - She may have walked away but he still went to her when she fell down and offered his hand. Sort of like letting her go but still unable to stop himself from really letting her go. That's why, when she removed her hand, it hurt really bad.

@mistergenie I hope for the same as well but let's hope for more than 1 scene for our OTP. The scene on preview where AS's mentor asks Eugene for help, hopefully AS is somewhere around and they meet. I kept repeating the scene you mentioned in Room 304 where the Manchuria guy attacks  Eugene, I see no AS tho. Looking forward to tomorrow.

That quick fight scene in the hotel room isn't there in the latest subbed netflix trailer for E11. Lends credence to my theory that it definitely happens in E12.  So you didn't see what I believe I saw? Eugene will be definitely fighting that attacker but right before that, I could almost swear that the person grappling/tussling for the gun with that Manchurian guy looked fair, feminine and shorter than the attacker. Or maybe I am wrong but hey, no harm in speculating within reason.

Edit:  Watched the preview again. Multiple times. I now believe my speculation is totally wrong. It is only Eugene fighting that attacker and not Ae Shin at all. Anyways, interesting that he is being targeted, no?  - so far Eugene has not come on Lee Wan Ik's radar so I am curious to see why WI would send that assassin after him.

    You're welcome. :)

Referencing the scene in your strip - We can safely say that  the opening scene of E11 is going to be a continuation of this one. It may probably be the only Eugene/Ae Shin scene of the episode. And even though we all know it will end in sorrow and a parting of ways, my hopes are that this scene is detailed. I hope they each express their inner whirlwind of emotions, be angry or be super sad, linger there in the snow, stretch the goodbye, leave reluctantly etc etc - I want to feel the full emotional impact of the scene throughout the episode. Aah! Who am I kidding? Most probably, a short, sad 1 min scene, but hey! one can hope.

  19. First time poster here. Signed on because I am utterly hooked to this drama. Love the discussions, appreciate the spoilers and other BTS tidbits. Special shoutout to @Ahpheng whose hilarious and creative instagram posts led me here to this forum.

Anyways, on topic. Did you guys notice in the preview for E11 that there's a fight going on in Eugene's hotel room and even shots are fired through the hotel room door. I noticed two things about this ultra brief scene -

    1) there's a very, very quick frame of a person in grey clothes fighting someone who looks a lot like Ae Shin when she is in her suit - her fair, feminine face is briefly visible in the muzzle flash when the gun she is trying to wrangle from the grey clothed figure goes off in the room.

    2) the immediate next frame is that of a person who very much looks like Eugene in his trademark blue suit, falling and fighting with that same grey clothed assassin.

    Speculation time -

First off, I think this scene will be in E12 and not in E11 because past three weeks have given us some preview scenes that have ended up airing later in other episodes.

Could Eugene and Ae Shin both be together in Room 304 when the assassin strikes? I would love it if they end up fighting together against that assassin but more than that I will be absolutely chuffed that the two are together in a scene - because even though they may be apart romantically for the time being, it is better than nothing to see them interact with each other/have more scenes with each other.
