I think Dong Hoon found out about the wiretapping!

YEEEESSSSSSSS! YES! YES! All the Feels! (Poor guy. Cool scene!) And this while he's down and actually driving with his brothers who are also down, most probably over 'the affair' revelation!

Edit: (This guy deserves all the breaks, and happiness, life can give him!)

What would he be throwing away exactly if he got with her?

@Wotad, well, the way the story is set up, it points towards DH going after / missing Ji-An terribly. If (or when) they get together, or end up as a couple, the company will come to know that. I don't know how easy it will be (or considered appropriate by the company) for him to have a relationship with the girl he was rumored to have been an item with (as a married man) right before his promotion - and that too, a very young woman from lower economic status, who is of no apparent societal / status benefit to him.

I don't think he can be in the company, as a respected senior, if they hook up. The directors will eat him alive and his colleagues will find it odd and objectionable (and these were guys who had defended him during the tough interview process to combat the rumors). Even if by some miracle he is appointed CEO (which I doubt) he can be voted out! (the other directors will not like a junior getting that position!)

So unless, the writers come up with a plan and the superiors and workers develop very large-hearts, he'll have to find another job (which will be difficult because his reputation will precede him) or turn himself into an independent consultant or something.

[Going by the video above - of Ji-An and YH shooting / together in ep. 15? - most probably the drama will end with JY being thrown out by exposure from YH+Ji-An, YH+DH divorce, DH retaining his directorial position, and seeing Ji-An on the off-side, walks / drinks. Open-ended.]

  3. I'll have to disagree with quite a few comments above (especially those of the shippers):

    - Irrespective of how the writer plays it out, the drama is set in a linear, day-to-day existence mode, and is about 'this is what life is like, how should it be lived?' - that is what every character is going through. It's not about how life will / should be like 10 or 20 years down the line. It's about getting over the struggle, and being happy right now, in the present, not wasting another moment pining over something regrettable, avoidable, suicidal, or depressing.

    - It's also about not placing contingencies or conditions on happiness or contentment: e.g. I'll be happy IF / WHEN a person grows hair, or loses hair, or straightens hair; IF a husband gives me attention over his mother or IF the mom dies; I'll be happy IF I have a job or become a director or CEO or elope with the girl I had a scandal with. The real question is are you content with the presence of someone or the absence of someone? Is that person good for you or not? Will it be okay if you are not together anymore? What if the other person moves on and you don't?

I think people here are trying to find some middle ground so that they can be comfortable with the age gap and justify the romance.

If all of DH's problems could be fixed with having Ji-An in his life, he would have been more open with her. Clearly, his problems range from work to marital to a midlife crisis. Divorce doesn't take long, neither does a heart-to-heart with one's kid! What does take time is being certain whether this is a girl worth enough to throw everything away for, become a laughing stock of fellow ahjussies (who probably would be too kind to say anything to his face), and probably find a new job too at his age! Basically, to have a completely new life with someone new.

Ji-An likes him but it could be admiration or a crush or as he noted 'a pity party alliance', not a life-changing passion. It could be a phase. She is 21 after all. Her whole life is ahead of her. He likes her, yes, and is probably flattered with all the attention from a girl he considers pretty (especially when his home life is in shambles). But maybe she'll lose her feelings once she finds more loving people in the world. Why should she settle for the first decent man who was nice to her and looked out for her? (Because he's gold! She knows a good thing when she sees it)......However, I don't understand why people are insisting on 2-3/4-5 year jumps with 'adult' 'non-chubby cheeked' 'educated' 'non-poor' probably in-a-skirt Ji-An?!! Their age difference is already too big, let's not turn it into an unrealistic kdrama-esque makeover!.....Either he wants to be with her as a man right now or not. That should not / cannot take someone 2 years to figure out! Either she is ready to be in a responsible relationship right now or not. I think in Ji-An's case, it is admiration which may or may not turn into love, and she has been very brave and intelligent about it, though in his case, she's screwed his marbles for good. He's done for. But he can always explain the feelings away and remain in his shell. And continue to have long walks with her, every now and then.

However, this drama has been all about coming out of the shell, so let's see.

I liked this comment on twitter:

#MyMister offers a snapshot of the human struggle. You learn that no one is perfect. Relationships are messy, your loved ones can hurt you. You learn that sometimes it just takes one kind person to turn your dreadful life around. Beautiful drama.

So anyone looking for perfect people or perfect job or perfect time or perfect moment or perfect age or perfect time to have a relationship or get married, he/ she should not be watching this drama! There's no such thing as ideal situations (and DH, Ji-An are 'perfect' examples of that), but one has to make choices and then live with them. That's all there is to it.

(In any case, I am against a time jump of any sort unless it's the last 5 minutes and they show all characters living out their lives to the best of their abilities, satisfied, with new struggles at hand.)

Their effortless and deep bond is built on quicksand. I don't know about you, but if I am lonely for whatever reason, then I form a relationship with someone who seems to get who I am, we bond a little more when they help me out of a sticky situation and I do the same, then I find out that this person was WIRETAPPING ME! WORLD WAR THREE!! I would be mad, furious, hurt, embarrassed, and feel SO BETRAYED, I wonder if I would ever go back to that person. Not unless I give myself some time and space to recover from the betrayal. Even then, I will never trust them completely. Even if Ji An has come to care for DH for real, doesn't change the fact that she manipulated their relationship. I am waiting to see how the writer handles this revelation. Will DH the sacrificing saint gloss over how JA got to know him, or will he get as mad as he got with YH?

Am I the only one who doesn't see what the fuss is about?

Let's break it down: DH WILL eventually find out that Ji-An:

    - set-up Director Park (DH already knows through the wise janitor that this desperate ill-informed girl was used and hounded by loan sharks, has killed one of them, works 2 jobs, doesn't take anyone's help, and stole the bribe money. So she isn't exactly Sleeping Beauty or a fairytale!)

    - bugged him to find his weakness (his weakness is his family and Ji-An - and he is only open about one of those things.)

    - worked for JY (that's how she was able to pay off her debt.)

    - invasion of privacy (24/7 access to his thoughts and actions. He will be furious, embarrassed and flattered. He didn't want anyone to see his vulnerable side but he didn't want to be lonely either. Her knowing his s*** meant it stayed with her but he will wonder did she enjoy listening to him get beat up? did she hear him cry at his wife? did she enjoy all that? Was his shaky marriage why she thought it okay to come on to him? or was he just a tool to clear her debt?)

    - circled him for food, drinks, walks and some strange kissing and confession scenes (he's going to wonder whether all of it was a lie.)

    - didn't get him fired (and has helped him in the bribe scandal, has taken his side in every conflict, offered to resign because of rumors and spies, even stood up to directors board meeting)

    - has done illegal stuff (and what's new about that? she doesn't care, he won't either.)

    - can testify against JY to the audit department (thus ending his career at least in that company!)

    - has gone missing (which will hurt him, make him miserable and he will go find her.)

    - has left him in a state of utter confusion (which will make him go crazy mad and he will go find her.)

Yes, it's a cool dramatic arc - but comparing her actions with how he reacted to YH or comparing her 'link' with JY as a great betrayal is faulty.

Their inevitable highly-charged emotional altercation will circle around: what she means to him? what he means to her? whether he can look at her the same way again? does he want to see her again? where do they go from here?

The answers to all of these queries will be the direct opposite of what his conversation / crisis with YH was like. That was one steeped in betrayal, exhaustion and disappointment because they had invested 20 years together. What has he invested in Ji-An other than some feelings? DH knows Ji-An is a very straight-forward person. This guy is attracted to her devil-may-care attitude, grittiness, toughness, and loyalty (to family and to him). She is not a soft person, he is. He already thinks she's a good person and a crazy b****. And I hope the conversation gets physical. After all, if he hates her so much, what is he doing there? (in whichever rat hole Ji-An is living in at that time). He will be relieved to find her but mad as hell over her and even he won't know what he's mad about. Hopefully, Ji-an can help him figure it out in her no-nonsense manner. This conversation will not end in a subtle open-ended manner!

Maybe he'll think 'I've gotten way over my head over this girl, it's time to end it, and go back to living a staid dull life with my wife - at least i know all her secrets!' OR he'll think 'this is too crazy but I don't care, I want her and I can't let go, she makes me nervous and happy (like a school boy all over again).' OR he'll think 'I need a drink! And some space!'

Remember, he's supposed to be 'Mark Darcy' so I for one don't think he'll think of it as a great betrayal. He will understand it and forgive her. Though he WILL lose his impeccable self-control.

the alternate ending I want for My Ajusshi:

Actually that's what I had in mind too! (as an ideal ending, at the subway station, without any time jumps), But let's see what happens (and doesn't happen)! I'll be happy no matter what happens. It's a very nicely crafted drama - and love - or whatever DH & Ji-An think they have - is an intriguing dimension of it.

Edit: if this scene is supposed to be from Lost in Translation - then a BIG NO! that's an idiotic end (you kiss and say something in ear and then leave?). But if @Sharine Phinisia you meant it as two crazy people ending up together while the world goes on, then yes, okay. Let's see what the writers have in mind.

I doubt I'd be able to accurately predict the conclusion to My Ajusshi even if I were familiar with these dramas! I'll put forth some possibilities anyway:

    1. An open ending

    a. The two characters ultimately go their separate ways and live out their lives apart. “People come and go; when they go, it is because they have made the impact they were meant to make in your life.”

    b. The two characters run into each other by chance sometime down the road; the drama concludes with them greeting each other warmly. This would reinforce the view that they are destined to stay in each other's lives as the kindred spirits that the previous episodes have established them to be. What happens next will not be shown to viewers.

    2. A warm, fuzzy ending

Over the last few weeks, we viewers have been wondering about things such as, "When will Ji-an and the three brothers look as happy as they do in the drama's promotional material??"

Whichever way it ends, this drama is intelligently scripted, beautifully shot, and edited, and everyone has performed really very well, and for that, it will be remembered and watched again too.

I swear, I thought the ending was going to be 1. a - till DH started making eyes at Ji-An. And now I don't see how they can even have 1.b. - because it seems to be headed towards DH taking control, saying no, getting ahead in his career and having Ji-An in his life thereafter. But let's see how DH's story is wrapped up. Ji-An will be fine without him, but he won't be, so let's see.

No. 2 (brothers and Ji-An hanging out all smiles) feels strange because Ji-An is a very awkward closed-up young woman - maybe if the writers show snippets of life far ahead in future as credits roll. Maybe sometimes love or connection just isn't enough.

As long as they are both satisfied, content, happy and progressing - together or apart - it's fine, though if they were meant to go apart, then writer / director shouldn't have teased with a 'will they/ won't they?' road and kept it a simple 'help, heal and goodbye'!

Will he even care about the revelation that Jian was working with JYD? or will he just be angry at Jian for leaving him? Either way, I am expecting another big explosive argument. gosh! I hope they don't kill each other

In Ep.13 preview, Director Yoon is questioning DH's judgement regarding Ji-An (her entire track record on the sidelines, murder, odd jobs, etc. will be exposed). And DH will be seen defending her nonetheless.

I was thinking what if JY is the one to tell DH that he hired Ji-An to snoop on him and ensnare him in a relationship and she only ate and drank and walked with him because she had been ordered to do so. He has already seen how affected Ji-An is by DH; once the long boardroom interview of DH occurs (in Ep.13), JY will realize that DH is defending Ji-An a bit too much and put two and two together (that he has feelings, and rub it in his face too: 'you called me a piece of trash but look at what you like! That she was behind Director Park's 'drugs-scandal' too and that she routinely uses such tactics to exploit men.')

    That's when Ji-An disappears.

However, the threat of exposing Ji-An's wiretap, would ensure that DH doesn't vote against JY in the CEO election, even after becoming director.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if DH thinks it was all a lie - whatever Ji-An said she felt or did - and that he was taken for a ride by a girl! (and did things for her - wanted to pay her debt, got beaten up by a goon, defended her at boardroom meetings!). I hope he feels very very very pissed and hurt and hunts her down for an explanation!

Wouldn't it be awesome if Ji-An deadpans and says 'yes it was all a lie. Did you really think I'd fall for a man as old as you?'

I'd love to see DH's expression and confusion! Wouldn't it be great if DH grabs her and forcefully does what, well, everyone wants him to do but nobody expects him to do! Try to make out with her, saying there's a way to prove she's lying. (kdrama-style!)

She will remain unmoved. He will be dejected and go back. Which is what she wants, because she wants him to vote against JY and get his revenge and 'win'.

Both never see each other again.

I have a couple inquiries myself that I would love to hear everyone’s opinion on.

    1) why do you think JH cried after calling JA and confirming she liked her hubby?

    2) what is SH saving up for by putting all that money under the floor?

    3) will DH make a selfish decision in coming episodes? What do you think it will be?

    4) will we ever see JS aka DHs son?

    5) do you think GI (loan shark) will join forces with JY?

    6) what do you think will happen with JH and the monk?

    7) same q for KH and YR?

    8) what do you think will be endgame for work politics? (E.g DW comes back as director, DH resigns, JY is fired, etc?)

    9) what do you think JA will do careerwise or educationwise after leaving (this is an inference from preview) job? Where do you think she will go?

    10) what do you think will happen with YH?

    1) Because a stranger had shown more regard and care for her husband than the woman who was supposed to be his pillar. She regrets it. She knows her marriage is hanging by a thread and it's all her fault. She doesn't know how to fix it. She may also have believed Ji-An when she said she had slept with DH, so was probably crying over that too!

    2) SH has debts. He does not want to pay up and that's why is hiding money so that creditors don't take it away. He probably wants to buy something!

    3) DH and a selfish decision? Hopefully! (my bets are still on him throwing everything away for Ji-An, but that won't make him look like a 'winner', so something in between where he retains his job, saves the day and gets Ji-An too)

    4) Only if the writers go for a dumb time jump where DH is shown spending time with his son and missing Ji-An who cannot be found.

    5) No, Kwang-il will not side with JY now. I thought he would, but then he went on her doorstep missing the connection they had (he's a psycho so I don't want to waste space on him).

    6) I find Junghee (who is a gorgeous woman) to be a pathetic character who is still crying over a guy who left her 20 years ago. She needs to get over it. Nothing will happen between her and monk. Maybe the monk will come and say sorry, but I don't know why he should! It was his life, he lived it the way he wanted to. She should do the same.

    7) Yura will become successful and find KH a job as an assistant director and they will go on shoots together.

    8) That's the big mystery, isn't it?!!! What will DH do to bring JY down? What will JY do once DH is director? JY will find another job as CEO unless he is charged for unethical business practices (wiretapping) and Ji-An becomes a witness against him (though that would be too kdrama-like). Most likely, Director Yoon will get blamed for the wiretapping and agree to take the fall for JY (after being promised a big sum for the rest of his life), allowing JY to leave this company unsullied. I don't think JY is a bad guy - he's just someone who wanted to be on top, got on top, and now wants to stay on top. Apparently nobody can stay in that office for long without burning someone or backstabbing someone!

    9) Ji-An can take care of herself. The world is her oyster. Hopefully her disappearance will last a few days or a week. DH will have it no other way. I don't think she is going to any jail for anything. (And I hope there is no crazy time jump of a year or two!) Even if she and DH don't end up together, she'll be fine.

    10) I don't care. I cannot stand that woman's face. The less screen time she gets the better.

I agree that in the beginning of the show, he did come across as a sad nebbish with an unfaithful wife, at first look, a "wimp" indeed. But my perspective changed along with Ji-An's (by design, obviously), that being good is ultimately its own reward, and helps you be the positive force for those around you.

@chickfactor I understand what you're saying about his inherent goodness but we'll have to agree to disagree about everything else! All I'm saying is that he lets people railroad him, walk all over him, take advantage of his goodness and he just takes it lying down. He doesn't say enough is enough. He has been pushed to make decisions and even then he has avoided direct swift resolution, going about everything in a roundabout way.

He doesn't take ownership of his life. This is a man who has given up on his life. If he hadn't been the hero / lead of this drama, we would have called him a cuckolded husband, a gutless man, a weakling, a has-been. Instead we have to call him too good to be true, decent, gentle, golden person! A man who takes care of family and strangers without expecting anything in return (and he is all that, but he doesn't take charge of his life - and when was the last time he did anything for himself?)

    Job:

    1) Like I said, he was in one job (planning), was transferred into the safety one. If you or I had been in a similar situation, we would have protested, or asked for an explanation or done 'something'. DH just goes with the flow. He hates the safety inspections, but goes around doing them because that's the job and that's that. He is absolutely miserable but doesn't say anything.

    2) He is humiliated and insulted daily by his immediate boss (Director Yoon). If you or I had been in a similar situation, we would have complained to some higher-up if not the HR. DH just takes it in his stride even though he is miserable. He probably is afraid that saying anything will make him lose his job. But he doesn't try to find another job either.

    3) In the bribery case, if it hadn't been for Ji-An and through her the wise janitor (money in garbage), DH would have been fired - nobody cared about his merit or ethics. They only saw what the camera showed them - a guy putting money in the cabinet.

    Promotion:

    1) There are 2 camps at the office: the pro-CEO and the anti-CEO.

    2) A vacancy is created after Director Park is sent off to a province due to scandal.

    3) The CEO election is up again.

    4) The anti-CEO group discuss who would side with them against the CEO. They shortlist DH.

    5) It never occurred to DH that he should apply for a promotion or be ambitious about his job. If you or I are in a field, we would have hopes and aspirations of climbing some ladder. DH doesn't, even though he has spent more than 10 years in this company and is more than qualified for higher leadership role.

    6) The anti-CEO camp nominate him, superseding his direct superior Director Yoon. And that's how he is in the middle of the rat race.

    Affair:

    1) Director Park gives him call record to find dirt on CEO. A pissed-off DH looks up the numbers. Ji-An tells him about the public phone connection.

    2) He finds out his wife is calling and meeting the CEO and having a full-fledged affair for a year.

    3) He doesn't do anything.

    4) He goes to the campsite, meets CEO, tells him to break up with his wife and not to tell her he knows.

    5) Technically, after all this, he was still willing to work at the company, under the same CEO, who had screwed his wife, right under his nose, and continue to see him daily.

    6) He doesn't say anything to the wife.

    7) She finds out he knows and he finds out she knows he knows.

    8) He hates the fact that his wife knows he knows, he doesn't know what to do, goes to his monk friend and then goes to punch the CEO and says he'll destroy him now.

    9) He doesn't say anything to his wife.

    9) He only gets angry at and lets out his sorrow when the wife says 'honey I'm sorry'.

    Neighborhood gang and friends:

All of them have grown up together, their fathers, mothers etc. all knows each other. They all help each other out. They would have run to help any one of them in trouble (even Sang Hoon!) It's not because DH is a nice guy that the neighborhood gang is helping him or there for him - he is more successful than all of them - but he's one of them and has been all his life.

    Ji-An:

    1) Yes, he is kind and considerate to everyone. But he has gone far beyond that for Ji-An. So much so that it is hard to explain to another normal person why he risked his life or his reputation for this girl. In fact it was only after she came along in his life, that he started getting irritated at 'injustices' big and small and started noticing how others were treating him.

    2) She says she likes him (and that he is seeking comfort in her too) and he leads her on. He doesn't do anything about it, other than keeping her by his side.

    Future:

    1) I can bet he'll be miserable in the new post too, because he is not a political man, he doesn't care about camps and would rather just fix nuts and bolts of a building. Let's see if he does anything about it or if he can swim with the sharks!

    2) Let's see if he tries to hang on to, reason and compromise with his wife - mother of his child that he has spent 20 years with (15 as a married couple).

    3) Let's see what he does about Ji-An!

Because this guy has to do 'something' beyond being good and lazy!

Yes, me too. I am wondering, now that JiAn is not "working" for JY anymore if she will continue to listen in on him. What is her reason to continue monitoring him?

It was a brilliant ploy by writer considering that there was no way in hell that the cynical, jaded, world-weary Ji-An, who doesn't trust men, would have learnt about the golden nature and struggle of DH otherwise - coming to empathize and care for him.

It's been a while since she stopped 'monitoring' and started listening in because she is fixated with him and his life, what he does, what he says, what he doesn't say, whether he's okay or not. If it was up to her, she'd never stop! I think when (IF) it ever gets out that she bugged his phone, DH will realize that the reason why she liked him so much was because she knew / got the real him, and not because of riding the subway home every night or some one-hour drinking session at a bar.

    - frankly I hope before he finds out, he is able to tell someone that he misses her (probably his bro or Jung hee at the bar) and she hears that.

    - I have no idea how he'll react! He can understand, he can vent and then use the same device to tell her to come back or be happy wherever she is.

    - OR maybe she'll leave her phone with him! So that he cannot find her.

I saw this scene differently: Ji-An obviously wanted to see how he was doing after the draining late-night bust-up with YH and she was sad for him. So she went to the road where he was passing through so that she could have one look at him. He of course, was surprised to see her and was like, why is she so sad? That's the way I interpreted it. I did not see it as a love scene.

A big IF. It may just be that when all is said and done, and secrets and hearts opened, DH bids her farewell saying she's better off living a full life instead of getting stuck with a middle-aged man like him and she will also think it's best for him to not get into difficulties because of her. Having learnt their lessons in this life, they promise to meet each other in another life - in the same bar.

(which of course would mean that DH hasn't learnt the lesson of living in the moment and being free, but whatever! For once, the idea of reincarnation will soothe him instead of depressing him!)

I actually think he enjoys being a structural engineer, he completely nerds out when he's talking about the actual work. He's having a crap time in his job due to factors that are not under his control, and power-hungry people using him as a pawn.

I love that he is a candidate for Director based on merit, and I love that he's decided to pursue it based on helping his family. I don't think that makes him some sort of slave to their desires, because it is his choice to help them and be there for them.

I think the best way to end the show is for him to find happiness without violating the essence of who he is, and that essence is someone who is considerate and kind.

@chickfactor when I said he hasn't made a single decision on personal or professional life in the series that hasn't been pushed on him - what I meant was that when we are first introduced to him in the series, DH is going through the motions, he has lived his life performing duties and has accepted that this is the best his life will ever go: and what was his life in episode 1? He loved the planning department but was thrown in the safety department - and apparently didn't do anything to change it or whine about it. He was humiliated shamelessly at the job but didn't report any mistreatment to HR, nor seek employment elsewhere. He was clearly not happy with his wife but didn't say anything to her and just listened to her complaining. He is pathetically miserable but doesn't tell anyone. He did not seek the directorship, the job offer fell in his lap - by default due to power politics. He only thought about his dull relationship with his wife once he found out she was having an affair. And he found out about the affair only because of a call record given by Director Park and Ji-An's hint about a public phone. He has been saved time and again by a stranger (Ji-An)!

I have not seen him take the first step in anything in his life in the series (except in the case of beating up Kwang-il and even that wasn't for himself). Like he says to the monk, he took the blows, sacrificed his needs for the needs of others, he keeps doing the right thing but nothing gives him joy and he is lost - and at his age, when people are settled and know what shape their life will be, he is anchor-less and clueless.

It's not about 'changing his character' or his love for his family or blaming others. It's about him stepping up to the challenge.

So what I want to see him do in the remaining episodes is take charge of his life, say what is okay for him and not okay for him - put himself first and seek happiness, whether it is job-related or wife-related, and where and with whom he sees himself a decade from now. He'll look like a wimp if he doesn't step up!

What frustrates me is that, DH still said nothing even after Jian's repeated confession. He still doesn't give us an access to his thoughts: where does Jian actually stand in his life?

What can he say? 'Hey! I think you're a hot babe that I cannot stop thinking about but you're a kid, I already have a kid and I'm all wrong for you, you're all wrong for me, but let's drink a beer till you get tired of the whole charade, but remember, my heart (like that Celine Dion song) will go on and on in circles over you!.....besides the writer / director of this drama have plastered a healing memo on my forehead so I can't do anything more!'

As a responsible adult, he's doing the right thing. Though he is leading her on too, slightly!

If everyone just drop their age gap judgment and not based their rationalization solely coz of press conferences, they will see the story of two unlikely people falling hard for each other despite their different social backgrounds, age gap, and status in life. The script quite honestly has been progressing in a linear fashion and does not backtrack on the love angle of DH and Jian. And yes chingu, DH is head over heels in love with her. He is petrified because likely this the first time he experienced such intense feelings for someone. After episode 12,    I am done rationalizing those angry outbursts, restlessness while waiting for her, and nervous hovering that DH doing it coz he cares for her only as a friend.

Just thinking out loud, what if their 'feelings' are just an itch that both need to scratch? You know, it's been said time and again on the show how great, moralistic, upstanding guy DH is and she of course is a wild untamed person - what if he goes rogue - as in sleeps with Ji-An, who would willingly give in. So he gets to 'live' out a temptation or a grand passion and she gets to be with the guy who does not want to be with her openly in society in that way. And then they go their separate ways, having made each other feel good in all possible manners?!

(I know, I know, they are both very serious people, but the show is unpredictable.)

After watching that scene of Dong Hoon and Ji An in the last train, I realize how total opposites they are and yet so very much alike and why they're drawn to each other.  Dong Hoon is always so careful to avoid confrontation and not hurt people's feelings.

Ji An, on the other hand, has no filter whatsoever.  She says what she thinks and how she feels.

Kinda makes me think it was probably Yoon Hee who chased after him when they were younger.

And wasn't even Jung Hee somewhat surprised that he never made a move on her when they were sleeping in the same room as he accompanied her in her search for the monk?  She said he was perfectly safe and he was so uncomfortable as she said it.

Ji-An literally was an uninvited guest in his life - he saw her stealing coffee from the office but didn't say anything until she spoke to him to buy her food which he did as an act of kindness, he only approached her when he got accused of the bribe. He does not notice women (Yu-ra) nor has even looked at any other office female employee. He does not even do 'locker room' talk that everyone around him does! I think writers included this because this was important or Ji-An would not have been this open with him if he had been a lecherous or extroverted person. He just does the right thing. His life revolves around his absent wife, kid, mother, brothers, soccer / drinking buddies and work. So this 'healing relationship' has been pretty organic, from lack of trust to trust and interest in each other to kinship to taking care of each other to raising each other's esteem up. I think he is attracted to her as a kindred spirit, a quiet introverted old soul who is absolutely fearless, pities her and is probably in awe of her how she survived this long without crutches / help. She also has this untamed, wild quality that attracts Mr. Nice Guy. And he thinks she's pretty.

Whether or not Park Dong Hoon and Lee Ji An have a happily-ever-after together or have a romantic relationship isn't even the issue here because they may never have this satisfaction at all.  It's whether or not they can fall in love with each other.

If they are not supposed to end up together, then this drama's last episode should have been episode 11 (when he says 'when we meet 10 or 20 years later I will not avoid you' and lectures on being open to others) or even episode 12 (when she says 'you're a good person' to a broken man sitting across her which makes him happy).

The healing part is over. She knows that she can be accepted and appreciated and be in society openly but she'll have to work at it, not ignore it. And that she should be kind to people around her (like DH is). He knows he is stuck, he knows he has to be fearless (like her to be happy) and is still directionless. All the balls are in his court and he hasn't hit a goal outside the playground! Nobody knows what he'll do after promotion. Nobody can predict what he'll do about his marriage. Nobody can say whether he'll accept Ji-An as the woman in his life. He certainly won't let her go! But he can't expect her to keep drinking beer with him forever in a 'friend-zone' when she keeps raising the 'ILU' flag. So his choices are all up in the air.

I think the writer / director tested the waters in the beginning to see whether viewers would accept an indefinable age-based relationship where the young woman is the aggressor and older guy is the passive gentle soul, and are moving towards a happier resolution. There was no need to show all the glances if DH is to be left alone at the subway or roadside or bar forever! The poor guy was alone in the beginning too!

OR they were meant to meet, heal and leave with nothing but gratitude and happy memories. Which is a whole lot of bull, if you ask me! That would have made sense only if DH's demeanor hadn't changed towards Ji-An. I hope the coming episodes show him doing something other than just reacting to things thrown at him!

    And it better end well!

The following are not my words, but a comment from Dramabeans on ep. 12 recap:

    12 OregonPDX

The scene where JH is looking out of the window of the passing car and sees JA standing on the street corner is froth with pathos. You can just feel his heart call out to her. In his mind a mantra of “if only, if only, if only”. She is his soul mate, at the most emotional level of shared understanding and intuitive self-knowing and that doesn’t even include the obvious physical attraction that exists and he knows it. But he is trapped in his sensibilities, cautious demeanor, impeccable need to “do the right thing” which tells him that it just isn’t possible and in that there is great sadness.

Sadly I don’t see any way for this to happen with JH’s sensibilities and the gigantic cultural negatives that forbid this. So no matter how the story ends JA ends up with a broken heart.

I don't think DH is ever thinking 'if only, if only' when he sees her - he looks at Ji-An in the office even if he is walking from point a to point b - this guy has it bad, but he does not want to acknowledge it and is constantly trying to rationalize why or how much he likes her. Plus, he DOES have a life beyond Ji-An and it is all a big mess. He hasn't made a single decision regarding his personal and professional life in the entire series that wasn't pushed on him. Unless the writer / director have just taken the viewers on a tantalizing 'what if' and 'what might be' road for high viewership, the new 'healed' DH is NOT letting this girl get away from his life. And that's why her (hopefully) brief disappearance (NO TIME JUMPS PLEASE - I hate them), will knock some heart into his sensible nature.

    Fingers crossed of course.

What fascinates me is that she'll be perfectly fine without him, but he won't be.

Sorry to cut in, and not saying your wrong because i don't know....but if they have episodes 15-16 filmed already to be able to get snippets from them, wouldn't they just have shown episodes 13-14 next week and continued with the schedule. I thought the break was to give the actors some rest from filming? If this is not what you meant, please excuse the post.

@MsMinnieFran you're right, of course it's a break from filming (either re-scripting, re-shooting or fatigue). I meant since they were going on a break, in that teaser they probably decided to show the overarching conflict / theme of remaining episodes - (you know, DH becoming director, Ji-An leaving / getting fired, YH repentant, JY in a fix, etc.) - because if that's just the preview of a single episode, then what will happen in other 3 episodes when not much is left in the story to get resolved, how far can they stretch / drag the conflict over 4 episodes? That's what I meant. (because all other episodes have been very quick and fast-moving and they have plenty of episodes to wrap up where each character ends up).

  18. - Isn’t DH leading Ji-An on? Right now, as long as he gets to see her, he is fine. He likes her as a woman (crystal clear when you keep waiting for a girl on a roadside!) but cannot acknowledge it because as the older (yet naive, set-in-his-ways) adult he believes it can all be explained to their circumstances, problems, and having a beer together to calm themselves! And that's pretty selfish of him! (well for once!) Because that means he does not have to make any decision and still have his cake. And since she's not making any demands, it can continue like this forever. Maybe that's why writer / director want Ji-An to disappear for a while, to make him realize what he needs.

    - I think the writer / director are just fishing the pond with DH+Ji-An so that viewers keep tuning in.  Her job was to make him feel alive again. His job was to make her believe that good exists. Mission Accomplished. It still is a healing drama. Their respective problems are on the mend - do they really need each other post-crisis? I like them together, but do the writer/ director?

    - Also, how will this relationship work anyways? Simply because each brings comfort to the other does not mean they'd make a viable couple - just the reaction to the coupling would be enough to scare DH off! (unless Ji-An’s bravery rubs off on him and he doesn't give a damn what his logic tells him or anyone thinks). DH cannot even hire Ji-An as his secretary! They could still work together, have beer and make eyes at each other without doing anything! But how can he face his workplace team when they find out he's divorced and officially seeing the (former) temp that there were rumors and fuss about? Isn't that unrealistic?

    - Maybe Ji-An is simply a temptation so that DH uses her as an excuse to break free from his pre-ordained life? And they both move on separately, yet happy with their 'memories' (Sang Hoon actually mentioned the need to make memories while DH was consumed with thoughts of Ji-An in the bar). What if he acts on his feelings and then goes back to his world while she moves on too? (I know, I know, DH is a stand-up good guy, he'd never act on it).

    - The best hope for crazy shippers out here is that DH feels miserable, trapped and lonely post-Ji-An (during her very short absence, NO CRAZY KDRAMA TIME JUMP), realizes he hasn't done anything for himself, and finds her soon. But he cannot quit his job because that would not be 'winning' so we're back to square one.

    - Also will he throw away a marriage of 15 years and a relationship of 20? It's quite possible that he makes some 'changes' to his lifestyle to accommodate the wife (I know I know, this is an unpopular solution on the forum!) once he becomes director. But we all know the new DH, with a rising self-esteem, wouldn’t want to be with someone who doesn’t like him, disregards him and back stabs him and bangs his mortal enemy! But maybe it’s worth a shot?

    - It's also quite possible that YH tells Ki-Hoon that a temp Ji-An has come between her and her husband! (after all everyone knows there is talk about DH and Ji-An, NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT JY AND YH) - this can make DH face even more questions - this time from his family and friends - about Ji-An and make YH make a clean break from DH without sullying her own reputation! Would be fun to see him more exasperated and uncomfortable!

    - Director Yoon will simply try to burn DH over hiring a murderer and all the other illegal stuff Ji-An has done since her teens. But it won't work. Unless Director Yoon is cornered about the gift certificates (the original 50mil) and blabs about JY, JY isn't going anywhere. Until Ji-An releases wire tapes to auditing department showing she was hired by JY (and then disappears).

    - I also doubt Chairman Wang making DH CEO superseding all seniors and sharks who have worked as DH's superiors, or leaving an entire company to a nobody. There has to be a very good explanation for that to happen realistically. And DH will go crazy with all the politicking soon enough!

    - I think the preview showed snippets of all 4 episodes. I don't know what the writer / director are trying to do because the basic conflicts got resolved in Ep.12 so how can they stretch two basic arguments (JY's future and DH's future) for 4 more episodes? (they can wrap the stories of all the wonderful co-actors, especially the crazy happy-go-lucky brothers, in 3 scenes!)

    - I think Jung Hee is a pretty pathetic character to have wasted her entire life crying over a guy who left her to become a monk! Get over it already! Unless she dies and leaves her bar to Sang Hoon (the happy drunkard) or Ji-An (the strange lonesome girl), I don’t see the point of all her scenes. There’s a lesson in her for DH - seize the day and the moment or live with regrets forever.

    - The only problem I have with everything is that DH hasn’t really stepped up. He keeps getting rescued by a 21-year old bold, brave, feisty poverty-stricken young woman who doesn't want this gold of a man ruined and now fancies him! When will he fight for what he believes in and for whom?

I am like @MsMinnieFran, I am hopeful, because there were so many signs thrown at us in episode 12, totally unnecessary signs for a totally non-romantic direction.

I think the shot of Ji-An hitting the road is either the ending of drama or just a short prelude to make DH realize a final decision where he wants to see his life go - and with whom. Everything is headed towards a climax and it cannot be a time jump or time lapse of more than a week or month till he finds her (IF he wants to find her - which he should considering how he keeps looking at and pining for her. Unless of course he rationalizes that simply because he feels a certain way does not mean he has to act on it!). Anything more than that would feel unrealistic to me (will it really take another 1, 2, 5 years for him to come to his senses?) He has to decide THIS spring, in this moment, not 5-years down the line spring!!!!

OR the sadistic writer / director may just show them like the end of 'The Way We Were' - few years later, noticing each other on opposite sides of a road, with a smile, moving on in opposite directions.

I'm exhausted just thinking about this! Okay, I need a break too!

I think if it ends well, they will just show them sitting in the bar or in the train together.

If it ends great, DH will have to step up with a no holds barred genuine improper kiss (not a kdrama kiss!) right in the middle of the subway or something. Problem is he has to make the move and has honorable hangups and is a shy person. Most probably, Ji-An will have to make the move again, this time reciprocated by Mr. Slippers. But most likely, they will just sit together - IF IT HAS THAT KIND OF ENDING and not going their separate ways after curing / healing each other or getting killed in the process!

Is it just me or does this teaser look like the ending of the drama? Ji-An walking off into the sunset kind of thing? (saying the last lines of the drama 'if we ever meet again....')

I noticed in Ep.12, in the train, DH and Ji-An both try to justify why they gravitate towards each other (pitifulness) so once things gets better, they'll move on. (I don't see how he can move on happily without her, but he'll justify it somehow as a responsible adult).

    OR

Once DH learns of the wiretap, he will use it to tell Ji-An (because he knows she's listening) that he likes her too and she should come back (to him, if not the office). (he'll justify it as listening to his heart freely and living in the moment).

Is this drama going to be steeped in melancholic euphoria forever?

I found that whole scene very funny and revealing. DH is not an open person and of course professional stakes are high, his personal life is in shambles - wife cheating, may or may not get divorced; he has spent time with a girl that no one can understand the appeal of! So even when he tried to explain something they were like, no! you cannot say that! ('did you sleep with her, if you did we can make it go away', 'don't look like that, it looks like you like her!', 'thank god she's not pretty, or we'd be doomed'!)

I saw a shy smile of our pitiful Dong Hoon for the first time.. being flattered by a girl who just saved his image in the Board Meeting is certainly a highlight.. like how one by one his problems will eventually calming... he will oneday manage to freely fly his heart and mind to wherever he wants and to whoever he chooses..

“If we meet again in the future.. will you be happy?” that means there will be a time span..

DH will appointed Director soon with majority Directors and even the President of the company... talking about that poor old childless chaebol who likes DH a lot..

That bar scene was beautiful - in two sentences both acknowledge each other's strengths, and then Ji-An reassures him that he is a beautiful person. He was so happy and sad and relieved to hear it, it broke my heart, I don't know about others.

Since the main inner and external conflicts have been resolved for both protagonists, I want a clear arrow ending - not an open-ended, insinuated, let's circle the block one more time and have a drink at the bar kind of ending. Life is all about making tough decisions. What's his choice, what's her?

I don't see the need for a time lapse of any sort - what do the writers want? a makeover for Ji-An? - the way the drama has gone this far, soon enough DH will find he is still trapped, miserable and lonely and misses her - and he has lots of avenues to check for her: the wise janitor, the grandma, the video gamer - unless he starts waiting every night at the friend's bar for her to appear! (being as passive as ever)

Of course, there was a huge issue / scandal over just her appointment and his interest in her, so he cannot hookup with her without giving it all up - and that's not an option if he has to come out as a responsible adultish 'winner'. (silver lining: Darcy didn't give a damn what others thought.....)

Maybe the production is halted because sadistic writer / director are exhausted about what to do?

This drama will be the (organic, life-affirming, brave) death of us all!
