  1. @TheRedDragon Hahaha. I see the pictures but I don't understand. What is that thing?

Hahahaha. Apparently it's a face massager, okay. Yeah. I can say with confidence that at most it will temporarily improve circulation in the area (if you notice flushing), so that can be very generously interpreted as improving the inflow of nutrients and outflow of waste products (so does slapping your face to be fair). It will not slim or tone or whatnot. Actually, in our bodies, if you apply force to a structure and it remodels in response to that, it will remodel to resist that force (think bones). So I would rather believe that those face trimming masks that look uncomfortable as hell are making your face larger (which they're not), rather than making them more slender (which they definitely aren't). Unless you wear them so much that you get muscle atrophy from disuse, like people do by injecting botulism toxin (botox).

I'm not interested in any massagers unless they're for the shoulders or clitoris.

Don't worry @siobhanne you didn't ruin the fun at all, at the opposite I like to confront myself with you all that follow ZYL from before me :kiss_wink:

OMG!!!! THIS could definitely kill me!!!!  oh YESSS PLS, I'm willing to take the risk LOL

Haha. A couple of weeks at most if that, I don't think we need to stress about that. I'm just a proponent of critical thinking (as a specific technique), as my regular rants demonstrate : p

    Lol, you're so brave :p

  3. @katthy yeah, don't worry. You were clear that it's just your impression. I'm more just cautioning to always carefully examine the impressions you have and come up with alternative hypotheses as to why you might have them. And yeah, I can't say that I've felt any of the same and I'd also be surprised if it were true. If he's affected by a role during the interviews with bai yu, it would be his then current role, in my opinion. Also because such impressions often become accepted lore in forums once more people have them, as if that's more evidence of them being true (as opposed to just more impressions that are also contaminated by the original impression).

I guess it also brought to mind for me all the shipping threads, which drive me totally crazy (yours is very benign and at least rooted in reality). People there are the definition of Texas sharpshooter fallacy. I really can't bear to look at photos of matching shirt patterns or whatnot : p.

As I said, I'm a bit of a pedant about such things so I hope you can forgive me when I chime in to ruin the fun ;) I'm also not saying you're wrong, obviously I don't know what the truth is any more than you do and my opinion is not more valuable than yours. Just. Always keep in mind what the evidence is and isn't and then your impressions won't sneakily morph into 'truths'. (those shippers really, agh).

yeah I know... BUT still... I believe that Shen Wei character may have affected him more than we think... (and probably more than what himself  expected)... considering that he's a shy and reserved person, he may have felt himself so confortable with Shen Wei personality that he could have "borrowed" and made it as his own in real life...  I'm not saying he did it, do not get me wrong, ... absolutely...I'm probably wrong and it can be just my perception... but I've always had the feeling that he resembled a bit to his character (Shen Wei) when at first I've started to searching for him and watching his interviews.... LOL
It could be because of this or not but I still can tell that he's less talkative than before Guardian, more shy than before... don't you think? 7666200timida.gif

No, I don't think so :p I haven't seen an outgoing interview if his, except for that variety show in 2010. During the filming of granting you a blabla he was a tiny bit more... Punky? So that for me speaks against him still being affected by Shen Wei. Then, I've never seen any of his long time fans mention a change pre filming of guardian compared to after. I mean, if you think about it, it's an extraordinary claim that this one character that he had no way of knowing would have such a large impact on his life would be so influential on his personality. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. It seems much more likely to me that you're projecting your own love of the character onto him, and are especially tuned in to the similarities. Anyway, it seems that I'm picking at something pointless. It's just that in my work and life I find it very important to analyse how I come to conclusions, and to always look for any biases I might have and to look at the strength of the evidence. Which is why I'm inclined to be a pedant and try to ruin the fun for others as well. I don't mind feelings and hunches when it comes to analysis of fictional characters, but since this is a real person.. At least for me, I would feel uncomfortable if people made such claims about me if they weren't true. So that's why I'm representing the other side and saying that Shen Wei feels to me so different from Zhu Yi Long, that when I see pictures of Shen Wei I actively have to remind myself that it's Zhu Yi Long. And I don't sense any big character shifts, although I do think we maybe see only limited sides of him so we might be surprised by how extraverted he can be in some situations. But that's just my hunch, based on nothing at all :p(except general knowledge about how people operate).

  5. @yhl0802 Thanks for the information and analysis! This is exactly the type of discussion I would hope to see here around these topics. Everyone staying calm, stating the facts and thinking about them carefully. Super interesting! These all sound like good directions in the entertainment industry. In my opinion it's also a very good thing that the lead actors' wages are tied to total production costs and other cast members wages, as long as they manage to keep an eye on the dark money. I think most of us have heard about the rather poor working conditions and compensations for crews in Korean and Chinese dramas, and hope that everyone, not just the main actors, gets rewarded for their work. As we saw from AvenueX's analysis, a lot of people's combined efforts bring about the results that we enjoy. (Or basically what we see from almost all ZYL's dramas, which suck, despite him being great in them ; )).

Personally I don't really like voting on these lists etc, because it's a monumental waste of life, and they're pretty much all leeching off the real creators. If that industry collapsed, I feel like something more sensible could replace it. But I understand why people do it and how it helps the actors. It's just in my opinion 不值得 (=not worth it... I think). When I think about the combined time wasted on those stupid polls it makes me want to vomit, life is too short.

Although I maintain a healthy amount of skepticism about things in the world getting less corrupt (as opposed to just differently corrupt), I hope they actually manage to bring about some real changes for the better : )

Nirvana in Fire has some very good antagonists. You should try it if you haven't see Nirvana in Fire. It is one of the best, if not the best drama in China.

Yeah, I also really liked it. Haven't watched NIF2 yet. It's kind of funny with Hu Ge, I can't watch or read anything about him, because I don't want the character to be tainted (not necessarily in a bad way) by the actor. I can't take any chances with this character.

  7. Can you recomend any good antagonists in Chinese shows or movies? Because I have only seen very few works, and Nirvana in Fire is the one that comes to mind with good antagonists. Anything Republican era is usually not very layered, because of the need to include anti-Japanese propaganda (sort of like you don't see sympathetic nazi characters that often). But I've only seen a couple of shows.

I'm in the minority, I guess, that thinks Shen Wei is sex on legs and Ye Zun is a weasel : p

By the way, I was just ruminating on Clown, as one does, and was thinking that in the end when the child was showing the petals to him and said she already has someone to take care of her, another theme of the show that scene plays on, is that art can be an eternal companion and comforter. Probably countless people have mentioned already, but I just realized.

  8. @TheRedDragon I'm not stopping anyone, but since I also browse Chinese forums and have seen that it can be a bit ugly out there in the real world, I've quite enjoyed that we can keep this place positive. So I'm asking if you could maybe get your answers, but then keep the conversation quite short after that so we can return to more pleasant things. I would like to remind everyone that he's a great actor, very hardworking, he looks gorgeous and he's very kind and liked by people who work with him. Just yesterday I read a thread on weibo full of posts by his collaborators praising him. Such a person, no matter what others lie about him, will always find people wanting to work with him. Even if he doesn't become some great star, he really loves acting and takes his role seriously even when filming advertisements. So I think we can be really calm in the belief that he will continue to be happy also in the future, regardless of the number of his fans or how high profile his projects are. Personally, I don't think they will be able to stop him from writing his name in the history of Chinese film : )

About the shampoo, in my opinion the best thing for him is if they can finish the collaboration on a positive note. So if they release more photos (some days back I posted a tweet from the photographer with some shots I haven't seen elsewhere, but he deleted it soon after, and I didn't download the pictures) I think it's best if people are appreciative of them. I still don't think fans are supposed to buy anything (from anyone), but in my opinion it is the best for ZYL if people can let go of that incident and let the brand start to restore its image. They are also victims in this, after all. Since he is easy to work with, the fans shouldn't be difficult to work with, either. We don't want people to think he is risky to hire, since there might be a saboutage and then your company's image can't be restored.

Do you guys know you got a new nickname "海鲜包“?In China, people give different nicknames to fans of celebrities  and fan's nickname usually has something to do with their idol's name or character, and many of those nicknames have something to with food, for example Hu GE's (胡歌)fans  are called 胡椒(pepper).  ZYL‘ s name in Chinese is 朱一龙 . 朱 is his last name , 一龙 means a dragon. ZYL's fans are called "小笼包" .  小笼包 is a very common but very yummy dish in China,  包子 is steamed stuffed bun. 笼 sounds the same with 龙 , 海鲜 is seafood, 海鲜包 is 包子 made of seafood. Since you guys are oversea fans, so you are called 海鲜包. Do you like it? Please don't get offended when people say that, it is just for fun, not meant to be insulting nor it has any negative connotation.

Oh yeah, I saw it! Xiaolongbao is a soup dumpling right? I've had some once, very tasty. And we're a seafood dumpling. Also sounds tasty : ) And Pig One Dragon is pork on a stick roasted by a dragon. Delicious.

I have to brag. Yesterday I saw a meme. It's that OWhat interview where Longge had to paste tags on himself and then threw away some very elaborately. And someone had photoshopped all the tags on him to say hotpot, and the one he threw away to read xialongbao. And I understood it without google translate! Because I know the character for xiao, and for bao, and for huo. And I know words with fire in them often have to do with food. So I had an aHa! moment and felt very satisfied with myself : D If more people make fun of him then I will soon learn the word for pig. Then for seafood I can already recognize the components of water, fish and lamb, so soon I will know that as well. Noodles are mian, rice I can skip, all the major food groups are represented, I'll be ready for you soon, menu!

Although now that I think about it the menus in China have pictures.

Edit: I got the noodles wrong initially, no starches for me : p If people are called meimei and mianmian it just makes my head spin.

I think I watched Clown/Ugly about 4-5 times, but now I just carry it in my heart. I will definitely keep an eye on this director and see what else he is up to. I still haven't seen the classics with Jiang Wen. I hope Longge gets to work with him again.

  11. @alexcho25 Based on his interview with esquire magazine, I think for the monkey role he was really dubious (=doubtful/hesitant/suspicious) at first, but since he had to do it, he and the director took it seriously. But for sure (=certainly) it was a stupid character that didn't make much sense. Why was he so hairy; why did he wear a loincloth (=skirt), if he didn't have any people around him (modesty is for societies, I spend all my summers naked in my room :p); why did he use his fingers like an ape (using his knuckles to touch things), the only apes in China are gibbons and they don't knuckle-walk. Basically they just wanted some sort of weird yeti-tarzan and then ZYL was forced to comply. But still the emotions of the character despite all this were well conveyed. :) and he said it made him more perseverant (=persistent, unrelenting, resolute). What can't he put up with, after all he played the monkey :)

And I will share some old stuff)

I didn't see this video here, but if I missed it somehow, sorry for a sudden repeat.

In 2016 ZYL took part in the Parrot Kitchen show where he was baking a galaxy mirror cake) Which reminds me a lot his like-galaxy looks, the old and the new ones :P

    English subtitles included

    https://youtu.be/SWBbB5cfGlk

Thanks! I edited the first post yesterday or the day before with a link (great minds think alike, his starsuit reminded me : p). But if you have any other ideas about what I might add to the first post or any subbed videos from official sources then let me know : ) Did you notice how the interview in the beginning sounds different to his usual interview style? I think that's his hosting-persona : D It's how he talks for ads : D

@Sherry Chow Wow! You've built a whole shrine to him, only the candles are missing : D

  13. @yhl0802 wow. You worked hard. Personally I'm fine with it, I anyway assume anything I post online is public. You will know better what not to forward so it doesn't cause fan wars in China (here we're unabashedly biased).

But yeah, do post the weibo links so we can counter spy ;)

The more English speaking Chinese fans we have here the better the chances people will sub zyl interviews on that YouTube fan channel that allows to add subs. I want every video translated but I'm constantly holding myself back : p

You are welcome!  I am amazed that you and other international fans follow him so heartedly with all those barriers!

The part he was asking whether Zhu Yilong was really sure he wanted to do this or that is when he asked whether Zhu Yilong was OK not showing his handsome face. :-) Most young actors/actresses in China are very sensitive about their look. So he would like to double confirm. (He might be  surprised that a handsome young actor did not care about his look).

Yes, he is also a screenwriter. One Chinese character can have multiple meanings. His last name is Wei, same character as the one means dangerous. That's why google translates that way. First name means smile/laugh. Perhaps his parents wish him a happy life and named him Xiao. It's just my personal guessing.

I blame hormones : p. Actually I am usually not a proper fan of a celebrity for longer than a couple to several months. I've had a period where I have some leisure time but that will end in November and I'll need to get mega busy. And usually at those times, as professor Shen Wei hypocritically explained, I tend to get over my fascination and move on. So if that happens and I'm not around it's not that I got upset or dislike ZYL, just I luckily also have my own life. But I will talk to a moderator about handing over the thread at that time so the first post can be edited with new info :) and I'll still see what new works he has come out with from time to time.

I will call him Dangerous Laugh then, because I think it suits him so well. Now I'm imagining a baby barking out a laugh in a bass voice and the parents naming him Laugh in surprise : D.

  15. @qjys Thanks! Since I don't know what they're saying I'm trying to restrict myself from putting the translation into normal speak, letting others interpret instead, so I'm so grateful to have a real translation. There was a clip earlier in the show I think where Wei Xiao goes to the Mango TV event to surprise him and at least by face Zhu Yi Long had no idea who he was. It's also super awesome to see the respect for Zhu Yi Long develop in the director. He starts off a bit cold (normal with a person you just met), and doubting his decisions, are you really sure you want to do this or that etc. But by the end he is just so delighted with him : ) And yeah, seems like an awesome drector, and I think he's also a screenwriter. And his laugh is so infectious. Doesn't his name translate as Dangerous laughter or something (maybe just for google, or a nickname)? : D What a suitable name in that case.

  16. @qjys Sure. I'm just linking the ones on weibo, tell me if you can't see them.

Basically on Bilibili there are options for captions, there's an upper row, from what I understand this is for visitors? Usually it's fan comments there saying how gorgeous he is etc. Then there's the scrolling one, which I basically have off all the time, because I want to see the video. I think people read this when they're rewatching? And then there's the bottom one, which is for the uploader I think? And all of these, if you have installed browser extensions to translate (google chrome also has an inbuilt one, but I also installed an extra google translate extension, because the inbuilt one doesn't always appear), can be translated by google chrome. I think I've only tried it in the chrome browser though. This works on bilibili, on youku it doesn't work. It can take some time, so you can pause the video. And if it doesn't work with the inbuilt google translate, then install the google translate extension from the app store (it's anyway useful, because it allows to highlight just a small piece of text or a word and to translate it).

But so far only this live is basically almost fully covered with floating subs, and I don't really know how to search for videos with floating subs : (. At least I got to see him eat tiger peppers, and complain about the lack of meat and spiciness and talk about stepping on that girl's dress and his ants. : ) I haven't shared this before because I had the vague notion of posting the subs on youtube, but I've basically been too lazy to do that.

    006zfxkEgy1fueav48axdj30f60go4b9.jpg

If people embed their captions into the video, then it doesn't work obviously. This is quite frustrating because the subs are so close, yet so far : p Google translating some 3-4 minutes of video with embedded subs takes me half a day (if I also add them in youtube), so I only bother with videos I'm extremely curious about. Or I do some really short ones.

    006zfxkEgy1fueavbjp8gj30c60gs12s.jpg

This part is the staff's question I think? Anyway, this live remains a mystery although there are subs : (.

  17. I am also confused by these airport pictures. If I recall correctly he asked fans not to come to the airport? Are these basically these stalker fans taking these pictures? In that case we agreed we won't endorse such pictures here. So even though I'm naturally curious, I think we shouldn't have this info on his whereabouts at every moment, unless it's to do with work and an official event. Or if it's a random fan encounter (like by surprise meeting a game of thrones actor at a fashion show). Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'm starting to feel like I'm harassing him if I know all his flight schedules and where he is at every moment. (roughly that he's flying to Beijing today and look at how much work he has should be fine in my opinion?). Especially because such stalker fans are known to chase the cars of celebrities and create very dangerous traffic conditions. So if others agree, then even though I'm grateful for all news on him, maybe the stalking and airport and going to his filmset or hotel, such pictures people can view privately if they're interested (plus Vogue will take us to his hotel room in official capacity ;)). I realize not all the fans who go to the airport are stalkers, there are also kids who want to go one time because it's their only chance of seeing him. Same for the hotel. So I'm not calling anyone bad. But he did ask people not to go.

What do you guys think? I hope I'm not hurting anyone's feelings. I'm also an extremely curious person and secretly want to know if he's doing well at any moment, and I'm not upset at all or judgemental, I just want to make sure our gazes are not hurting him. Because once I see it, I can't resist looking at it.
