  2. Okay hoping someone can assist me here, as this is the place for kdrama's.  I have watched so much kdrama however am now getting more and more fussy on what i watch due to poor casting, bad endings, or really tragic plotlines.  But wanting some interesting dramas to sit back and watch.

    Father is strange

Romance (Strong chemistry or strong tension between main characters)

    High Society

    Temptation

    Starry Night

I have seen quite a bit now i must admit but also I am stuck with some things not being in english subtitles, especially some quality chinese/taiwanese dramas'

Does anyone have any suggestions on more things i can watch?

  3. @bebebisous33  Thank you, you are more articiulate than I am and picked up on additional things there.  I was frustrated when i was writing parts of it as the night before no one liked the ending and couldnt understand it.  Yet the next morning after watching it i could understand parts of it and feel the other parts were right but couldnt put them into words.

The best part of the drama was the fact she fell for her step son.  She was so use to destroying everything that got in her way and its good to see a revenge plot when someone cant get over themselves when they cause a huge amount of damage.  Normally they take out plenty of others on the way down.  She was so consumed by her thoughts of him that she was down and out after that.

I am still in two minds though if i should feel sorry for JBC or not.  He was childish and immature yes and even let KPJ take the fall and go to prison.  He spouted alot of things but he wasnt beyond redemption.  I felt if KPJ wasnt out for revenge JBC would of settled alot more and been closer to KPJ,  but the plot was about revenge and i feel torn still with JBC character.

  4. I can be very firey and sarcastic which does and doesnt go down well in friendships and relationships.  But my breifest but strongest was someone that no matter how stressed or frustrated i got he stood there very gentle let me vent and then would say "its time to go".  That always stuck with me and that i think is the nature of both arthrit and kong.  Kong knows his temper and yet every time he vents it kong is still there and patiently says "lets go".   Which is rather sweet actually......awww....

  5. Actuallly  i do have to correct one thing about my assumptions and review on the ending as i was wrong.  I said that KPJ changed the CEO position as a result of JBC but i was wrong.  The expression on JBC face was familiar and i couldnt quite work out the expression, it was resentment.

I had to go back to watch the sequence of events in ep 23, but the expression is the same as it was on the bedside and matches up with JBC final conversation before they part.  His mother is always doing things to make him ashamed, this time regardless who her son was she wanted revenge on KPJ so she blurted out his heritage and her sons at the same time.  In a game of one uping each other, KPJ fixes that problem by doing the right thing and abolishing promotion by family.

It wasnt done for his benefit as i had said before it was done to spite his mother, but it was for JBC which he resents as yet again he indirectly caught in the game of revenge.  This add and spouts off the converastion in ep 24 about him always being resentful and jealous of KPJ, which is true, he was smart, intelligent, made friends easily and outwitted anyone against him.  So JBC who already felt ashamed of his mothers antics, sounds like he is not exactly proud of his own as you cant confess something like that to KPJ if you havent questioned yourself first.

He obviously didnt like who he was and became what everyone wanted him to be, a filial son to his mother and a pawn for KPJ.  The only things he had that he waned was the chairmanship which KPJ set up for him anyhow and his marriage which also KPJ also set up for him.

Which also clarifies why he wants away from KPJ, his tone was respectful not spiteful in the converation.  It wasnt done out of hate or anger or jealousy.  It was out of self reflection.  I think he was envious of KPJ but wants his own life now one not dictated to by anyone else.  Sadly going forward thou i expect it will be in the future still by his mother as i cant see him not being a filial son.  Although these asian dramas are making me really dislike guys who are filial to their mothers.......sheesh....They so some crazy as things for them.

  6. @lu09  We were both typing our epilogue summary of the final episodes at the same time it appears and both came to similar conclusions.  This is not a drama i could watch over and over again thats for sure its too deep and so much revenge back n forth for me.  A show like mad dog however I can do that on.

But thank you all the recappers and staff and those who post clips and information.  I like this site as much as i dont like going from episode to episode on shows, if i had to this is the best place to do it as i have people along side of me to discuss things with or ask questions or assist others with.  So thank you members as well for making the journey a pleasant one.

  7. Okay i have now watched both of the last episodes and I understand what is going on now.  It is tying up loose ends and there is alot of metaphoric references in this ending.

Firstly keep in mind most dramas tie up loose ends and either have a time jump or forgiveness.  Thats great in drama land but this drama was not ended that way it was more a realistic way.

There was time jumps but sublte, like KPJ stabbing and his recovery.  Firstly to cleanse the Jang family everyone and i mean everyone had to go, like a huge wave to wash out Cheong A group.  Which meant KPj had to go with it, he also contributed but was aware that he would also had to be in that wave.

Its sad but needed for JBC to find out the truth behind it all.  He cant have his own life until he is faced with the truth.  He cant have people propping him up, he knows this and wants his freedom.  He doesnt hate KPJ but also wants away from the drama now, there is too much revenge and he got caught up in it.  Hence why he cut ties with him and said for them not to recognise each other.

Before KPJ left thou he fixed Cheong A group so that JBC had a fighting chance.  That is why JBC stood stunned at the end of the meeting yet again KPJ was looking out for him and protecting Cheong A group.  The family is toxic and the company should not be influenced by family.

The stabbing was the actual metaphor death of KPJ.  With the stabbing KPJ is finally laid to rest like he died 20 years before.  Now KPJ recovers from his wounds pays respect and thanks KPJ but now its time to go back into the world and take his life back as a Jang.

Of course NMH told him about the position by sending him the application.  His vision for the company will get him back to being a chairman.  Not because he is a Jang, but that as an attorney for the company it was always his visions that the executives put into place.  So he knows the company as well as he knows himself.

Also JBC had some truths to find out as well, he knew that his mother killed both his real father and also wounded Soo Man as well.  Thats another death his now knows his mother is responsible for.  He didnt have to be told or kicked out of the residence.  Its not his to start with, also its not where he belongs or wants to be.  Hence why he moved first then told KPJ later.  Hence why he also told his mother to accept her punishment and he will support her.  Still bothers me that despite going crazy that if she came out and continued would he still protect her.  He gives in to her and I doubt that will change which means JBC is still not strong and is likely to fall again in the future.

Meeting JBC by the lifts was not actually as strange as it looked in perspective.  Now as he new life he went for an interview like everyone else and saw JBC, but respecting JBC didnt acknowledge him as per his request.  But both of them also slightly smiled where they were acknowledging it was good to see each other again and yes yet again we are going for the same role.

All to well in drama's they alk about forgiveness and they steal funds, lie, cheat, and on it goes, ask forgiveness and move on as one big happy family.  Thats not realistic, this is more practical.  They all have their own punishment to serve, damage is still left to be healed in their own way and all move on to with their lives.

At the end he was saying he finally back to who he should of been 20 years earlier, free of burdeon, taking in the fresh air ready to start a new.

Thats my take on the whole thing.  Someone could have a different take on it but I think i got most of the subtle references.

I agree with the type of love NMH has for KPJ,  Love is not about possessing someone or having to be with them.  Sometimes they give you a beautiful feeling, make you feel alive and even if they dont or cant be with you in this world, the fact that you know they are someone alive in it is enough for you.  They are both not at a place they can love each other without baggage.  Thats why she said she know they both love each other but that she has placed it deep inside her heart and is giving him his freedom to find his place in the world outside of the revenge he created.  The whole walking down the street bit was him starting anew with new possibilities for himself, the company, his relationship with JBC and also finally with NMH as well.

  8. Not sure about the stabbing bit but the company doesnt suprise me that he sits back on top of that.

Doesnt suprise me if Se-young got him out of prison early as alot of the work he did to take them all down no one knew about except for her.

JBC has to cut ties with KPJ, the relationship is toxic, i would of liked them to be friends,  but JBC has some growing up to do and he cant do that under KPJ shadow.  Likewise there has been alot of revenge and both need time to heal.  I think JBC understands his need for doing it after all it was his mother, but i would think he would resent both of them making him a casualty of their fued.  JBC also originally sent KPJ to jail as well so his maturity is lacking.  But what ever goes down at the very very end it looks like JBC is finally at peace with the decision.  While initially taken back or what ever that was, he did sort of smirk before stopping himself.

I think Se-young also let him go as well, he spent so much time on revenge and sorting things out, that i think she cant be with him at the moment, I think she wants him to have time for himself, rediscover who he is and where his place is now that all is calm again.

What i wanna know is who stabbed KPJ and why and what happened.........pfft.....

Okay i have had another look at the ending before i wait for the subtitles and i am sure this is a spiritual ending.

To many kdrama say forgiveness and hug each other and best of friends again.

This is more realistic, there has been all sorts of things happen with the main characters and they are all scared because of it in their own way.

As i said about about JBC, same as with Seyoung.  The ending sort of makes sense as well for KPJ, i think he was finally back in the world again, everyone moving past, the look up the sky was probably to his family i would guess to say i did it and its time for me to live.  He never lived he existed and welcomed death.  This i would guess is about his welcoming life.

  9. @triplem Agree with you there, i have see so many strange endings of dramas thats why my first priority is seeing how it ends before i invest so many hours into watching it.

I had a peek at cruel city and was so distraught and disappointed and thought NO WAY.  Didnt like that ending at all and same as with lookout as well.  I liked the ending to Whisper & Mad Dog.  Despite it all everything got resolved, in whisper he did his time and they moved on, and with Mad Dog the two boys had a bond over the air crash, one being victim the other accused's brother.    *spoiler alert* Its touching that he could call him brother something that he couldnt do to his own brother, so the experience i get extremely deep meaning from and was really touched.  Only one part of that drama i did NOT understand.  That damn doornob and why he was staring at it......hmmm

  10. I am not sure with this drama there would be an ending everyone would be happy with.  I mean i did feel sorry for JBC mother, i mean despite all the crap she did, she literally fell apart when she realised he was her step son.  Several times she just went quiet, soft and streamed tears over it all.  Others would of got revengeful.

I mean i liked NMH with KPJ but then again he did alot of stuff to her that i am not sure they belong together either, so yes i am mixed about that as well.

Also what becomes of JBC despite it all if he gets the company back then he wont change, but sounds like he wasnt happy with what ever was going on in the company.

  11. In a strange way I do hope that JBC & KPJ can bond.  Its strange I didnt like alot of his attitude, but it also had the appearance of KPJ acting like a scolding older brother to him.  Neither of them are right in what they have done but then again they have been together for 20 years, be disappointing if they loose that bond and JBC cant get over himself or KPJ cant move past it all at the end to allow him closer.

  12. I am a bit jaded from these drama's and have invested time in them only to be annoyed by the plot line or ending so now i have criteria for my dramas'

    - Does it end well.
    - Do i like the chemistry of the main characters.
    - Is there any secondary characters I can enjoy.
    - What is the plot line to the drama.
-- males stupidly accepting all blame for stuff.
-- Crazy females determined to destroy relationships to score the men.
-- stupid men agreeing to marriage or relationships out of guilt on what the evil character has done.
-- the amount of time it takes to resolve some of the above stupidity.
-- are the families going to go psycho crazy and object which will take up 70% of the drama
-- how long is the drama and how long is each episode - is it bareable to watch it all.

-- Oh yes i love him but as its too difficult i will sacrifice myself, rip his life apart and put him in pain.  But its still for the greater good, as I will wake up to myself after i have bored the audience for 20 episodes.

That being said i must admit i have followed this one all the way through so far..

  13. I am slowly counting down the minutes till these episodes airs, i try to switch off and pretend i am not really paying that much attention and whatever happens, happens.  But reality is I am clock watching slowly.  This is why i prefer finished drama's..........LOL

But actually I do have one confession thou, the actor that played KPJ, i didnt really like him that much due to his stern serious face.  But it suited this role and then i accidentally saw some of the making clips and realised he is very cute and sweet when he smiles actually.

  14. @kismet22    I think you pretty much summed it up, he did have feelings to some level as it controlled his rage to not do anything drastic and have patience all this time.  But yes any emotion from the Jangs was self indulgent.  Even JBC who i liked his playful side was infact just childish in this thoughts, actions & behaviour.

Some people when exposed to trauma cave and fall into a puddle and not be able to get out, others like myself and my struggles go into self imposed survivorhood mode to cope.  Neither is in fact healthy even if KPJ goes into survivorhood mode he is denying himself happiness and all the other things life brings with it.

I think there will be a wind up of the next episode and the last 20 minutes is my guess they will do a run down of where everyone is now at.  I doubt they will want to wind it up to quickly but who knows.

But yes i am now sort of in a healthier position, we all struggle with life's up n downs and your welcome.  If what can be shared from one can bring insight to another then its always worthwhile sharing.

  15. @kismet22  I am not sure if you can relate to this or not,  but i went through anxiety and recently hospital for a long term injury.  With the anxiety you have triggers that set you off but if it gets extreme and you experience it for a long time you dont feel anything at all, everything around you feels numb.  Its like you have fallen in a void and its too deep to get out of so you resolve comfortably to stay there for no better solution.  Same with hospital after a while there is the day in and day out stuff and you get to a calm resolute on things and the little things you stressed over at the drop of a hat you just look at em blankly with no feeling at all.  Things are way better now and all back in control but can relate to the abandon life bit.

I think thats the kind of experience i think they gave to KPJ, to him he nearly drowned the thoughts "It didnt take my life"  "Why was i left behind when they were all gone"  "I have nothing"  "I am a coward to staying here and not being with them".

There is also a section in the drama around episode 14-15 in "The Entertainer" when the truth comes out about his friend and the gravity of the outcome what he innocently started.  (involved a physically challenged guy in the music industry that didnt want to but was talented, then had to go on a trip.  The guys music was ripped off and he committed suicide, they found out the truth 10 years later).  The same sort of feelings there, dispair of whats happened of being left behind, helplessness of not being able to do something back at that time.  Even his brother felt it, he couldnt hate his brothers friend, didnt want to loose him as well, but felt guilty about his brother.

If step-mommy dearest hadnt tried to manipulate him when he first came to them and told him to say by JBC to help him become chairman he might of felt more guity about what he was doing.  But she continued to manipulate and had no remorse, so like he said at JBC bedside he only had two choices in life, take her down or join his family.  He had nothing else in that 20 years to grab onto and we cant say that NMH is a factor because that is where he does feel guilty.  He intentionally brought her into his scheme and he knew she was innocent.  Thats why regardless what anyone had done including protecting her knowing about her father, he took all the blame and the abuse.

  16. @kismet22  Well a debt in part anyhow......LOL  Don't forget she got into the whole marriage situation because of him to start with.  Lil richard simmons!!  Clever plan i must admit.  But i do agree.  Am curious how the last 2 episodes will pan out.  Hopefully no big curve balls or anyone dramatically hurt.

BTW on your issue of KPJ could of found another way to carry out the revenge, if he had of married her or been part of the congressmans family he could not directly impact JMR which was his goal.  The best place for revenge as they say is right under your nose where you least expect it to be.  He was the company dog, sent on errands and disregarded unless they needed him, now like with any pet you neglect them and they will come back to bite you one.  KPJ needed to directly impact the events taking place, and as an attorney he was needed legally, so it would of been the only way to carry all that out and make it work.

  17. I think alot of people find this type of revenge drama more entertaining than the standard drama's they have.  Nothing is predictable, well okay predictable as in repetitive scripts we have seen the same plot lines over and over with.

While on one hand the characters show emotions, good, bad or evil for that matter.  You can feel the emotions so it was well cast and acted.  Even twisted JBC going against the mistress with the knife and scaring the crap out of her suprised me.  He was starting to snap under all the pressure he is getting.

But the best part for me, i dont know if anyone else found themselves doing it, but i kept laughing at parts grandpa has a go at him for doing something "Thats right jack&^^ like you aint done nothing wrong" or like JBC whining over what everyone else especially KPJ is doing "Arrogant sod, try stepping up the plate yourself or grab a mirror and see reality", i find myself laughing my head off and yet smuggly looking at the tv going,  "YOU SO had that coming".........LOL

I too am curious how it ends, i feel that JBC will find peace after all is said and done he cant mature while he is under his mother.  So she is now starting to realise she has caused her own son to suffer.   I cant see her going back to JBC even thou they did have strong chemistry, after all thats happened she kissed KPJ knowing full well despite his denials he loves her and she does love him as well thats why despite saying she cant forgive him she kissed him and knew to leave him where he needs to be at this point of time and that he wouldnt go with her if she asked.

How will it end okay my thoughts are worst case scenario is KPJ dying or drowing in the river and meeting back up with his family he is wanting so badly or back to the beginning some time had passed and he is back at the lake where the wildlife is taking photos again, she see's him tells him she can never forgive him, he still emotionless as he knows what damaged he has caused and she says "but you can marry me and try to make it up to me."  with a huge smooch at the end.

I expect the congressman will reveal all and drag KPJ into it, but he will expect that anyhow to fix everything that has happened.,  I think time jump will happen to his release and congressman will also welcome him as well due the fact he protected him and his daughter from being killed.

  18. I am curious how this will now resolve, i have mixed feelings watching these last few episodes. Usually with these revenge dramas i get either bored or carried away with my emotions on how bad they are and how you want to reach through the screens at them.

But this drama was very different I must admit, i only started watching towards the end of the drama as i wasnt keen on the lead.  But to my suprise actually I enjoyed it, so while waiting for the finale will have to go back and watch from the beginning now.

I have mixed feelings in the sense that mother and son got a run for there money on their antics and got burnt at the end and emotionally its taken its toll on them.  I cant help but feel there is a shot of genuine redemption, then alas they open there mouth and i go nope just not going to happen.  I want her to end up with KPJ at the end however at the same time i see compassion and what was really love between her and JBC cant help but feel if he confesses to the crap he pulled does his time in jail and comes out that they may have a chance there.  But at the same time he is arrogant and thinks its okay for other people to go to jail for him.  I feel sorry for the mother that her emotions are so caught up, then have to slap myself and think look at the crap she has pulled.  Then i stop those silly thoughts.

But what i really find astonishing, is that i am laughing out loud at these episodes at the blatent stupidity they are caught back in their own traps and cant get back out of it again so have to go along with KPJ.  I like watching him keep them all in their place.  I have a feeling its going to get very dicey for him towards the end.  Maybe even hitman dicey on him.

But i still say as i have before its easy to relate to the good characters and run along with them, but if you repulsed and want to slap the evil characters, then the actors did a fine job then and should be congratulated.    I always remember that and thats why i enjoy this ride as well.

I am curious what KPJ will do thou, i dont think he wants to leave the company in a mess or destroy it.  But i think his revenge was about mother and son not about the company so I am curious if he will leave the company and find a calmer way to live life once it is all done.

  19. The final episode of this drama is refreshing, it was hard to see her walk away I mean she knew what he was like all the way along and yet still stood fast, so her walking out the door this time seemed silly in the plot.  But i get the idea to walk away you work out your feelings, his reactions were what caught me the most, he is transparent on how he feels about everything including her and thought she was a dream and so hurt that she left.

She looked both releived to hear that from him but also hurt that she had left him feeling that bad.  The part ironically i like thou is afterwards it them doing everyday things together and working their way through life.  Dramas tend to put so many obstacles in the couples way not let them stay together and work things out, then at the end of dramas get them together and thats it.

This drama had them together throughout although she did leave it was very brief and we got to see them back to their routines again and working things out together their way, which is rare in dramas but always touching to see.  Its rare i gush after watching a drama but the final episode of this one did it for me.....arghh that felt so good.

  20. I like this drama cant wait for the subtitled version to watch the episode.  I like characters that are not predictable, it leaves you wanting more.  I was worried about his blank reactions to almost everything, but it was her that suprised me, she didnt run from it she stood fast and waited for him and he did slowly come to her it just took time.  Once he felt safe me could read her emotions he let himself get closer to her which was sweet to see.

Plot lines like this one or bromance ones like Chief Kim, make it interesting and unpredictable.  Even in Family dramas like My father is strange, the reactions from the characters are strong, the women arent submissive or timid they speak their minds, the men dont cower from it unless they have done something seriously wrong. As well as Lee Yu-Ri who freaks me out in dramas cause she makes an awesome villanese or someone on a rampage of revenge, is actually very good this time on the other positive side of a family drama.

Its away from the predictability of some of the drama's that are produced so enjoyed this drama.
