Shin pd has uploaded unreleased footage from S1, showing Songhwa looking at Ikjun with heart eyes as he sings.

Yeokshii, all the lovelines and endgames were planned right from the start.

It seems like HP will most probably end in S2 :( But I'm excited to see what Shin-Lee has in mind for their next project. In one of the interviews, Shin pd said they're considering to do a wise life series on kids. Maybe Uju and iksong can cameo in it!

  2. There are people who feel frustrated with the progress of the lovelines. And then there’s me, who feel frustrated reading their frustrations. Some might think I’m a blind supporter of ShinLee. Truth is I dropped R94 halfway and still have zero motivation to watch it.

I honestly think they’re not dragging out the lovelines for no reason. Between Songhwa’s pseudo-rejection and her eventual acceptance of Ikjun, something needs to happen to cause her mind to change. It’s part of her character development.

Everything has been planned from the start. Take Gyeoul’s family background as an example, which has been foreshadowed in S1 before “winter garden” was a thing.

I think it’s no coincidence that something happened to both Gyeoul’s and Jeongwon’s moms before the proposal. He planned to propose to her, even before formally introducing her to Rosa. A marriage doesn’t only concern the two of them; both families would be involved too. Rosa’s hospital stay become an opportunity for Gyeoul to introduce herself as Jeongwon’s gf. And Gyeoul brought her mom to stay in Seoul, which could create an opportunity for Jeongwon to meet her too.

In S1, we saw how Songhwa broke down mentally in the car before getting the breast biopsy results. But she managed to compose herself and put up a strong front before Ikjun.

This time round, Songhwa completely let down her defences. When Ikjun entered, she didn’t hide her tears or turn away from him. She finally revealed her vulnerable side to him.

    51380548647_69d9809986_o.png

Then, she walked to his side and crossed the line. @dubuqueen I think she wanted to be comforted by Ikjun. But being a gentleman, he held himself back and walked away.

In that moment, Songhwa’s heart wavered. As Ikjun walked away, she might have realised she wanted to be more than just friends. I think this could be a turning point for Iksong’s rls.

Also, see how Shin pd uses lines to illustrate his characters’ relationships.

After watching Ep 8, something disturb my mind. Before the band scene, there is a scene where SongHwa met a man who is her patient's son. He said that his friends for 30 years just died at his relatively young age, 50. And the scene end after that.

Whether I only overthink this scene or there something important will happen to Ikjun, because this scene might be a foreshadow to Songhwa's long time friend and related about death. But, we all know that Shin-Lee is not the type who will make useless / pointless scene, right?

But, I hope everything will be okay, and they have happy ending.

    *sorry for my bad english

Earlier, the son and daughter were arguing over money and their mom’s medical bills. Understandably, since they have already spent a lot for their mom’s breast cancer treatment. Then, the son’s friend died suddenly, before he could spend a penny of the money he earned. Seeing this, the son realised that life is more precious than money. Hence, he changed his mind and decided to pay for his mother’s surgery.

  3. Ep 7 gave us a taste of what it’s like to become a patient’s guardian.

People can become illogical and unreasonable, when their loved ones are lying there, sick and in pain, and there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it. Just like the liver failure patient’s brother.

Yunbok, who once attended to her sick mom, failed to understand and empathise with him after becoming a doctor.

“It’s something we see every day, but it’s one of the most important and dramatic moments in their lives. And that’s when they cross paths with us… And if we were ever in a situation like that, we’d be the same way.” – Ikjun

Like a prophecy, it came true when the paediatric fellow made a scene in the ER because her daughter suffered a febrile seizure.

According to mayo clinic, a febrile seizure is a convulsion in a child that's caused by a fever. It can be frightening when your child has a febrile seizure. Fortunately, febrile seizures are usually harmless, only last a few minutes, and typically don't indicate a serious health problem.

As a paediatric doctor, she should know full well that a febrile seizure is nothing serious and her daughter would be fine after a few minutes. But her instincts as a mother got the better of her.

I suspect ep 7 is essentially setting the stage for ep 8.

Our doctors will have to act as guardians for their parents in the next ep. Rosa may have both Parkinson’s and dementia. Gyeoul’s mom may be a victim of domestic abuse. And Songhwa’s mom may potentially have some medical condition too.

As doctors, Jeongwon and Jongsu shouldn’t have brushed off Rosa’s symptoms lightly. I think Jeongwon might feel very guilty about it when he finds out about her condition.

I also wonder if her condition would be an impetus for Jongsu. I’ve always thought that they would do just fine being soulmates for the rest of their lives. But things may change if Rosa indeed has Parkinson’s and dementia. Jongsu said in passing that he wants to move into a silver town. In Korea, silver towns are luxurious nursing homes with great facilities catered to the elderly. Only people above 60 years old are eligible.

But Rosa said they wouldn’t accept sick people. So I think Jongsu will give up on the silver town idea, and choose to live with Rosa and take care of her.

Like Iksong, I hope they’ll see the rainbow after the rain too.

  4. A basketful of Easter eggs

    Spoiler

    51368084090_50c8f64922_o.png

Much effort was put in for the short flashback to their intern days, from the props to the actors’ styling. What looks like an old logo of Yulje hospital was plastered on the walls inside the ward as well as along the hallway. They even created a 2005 calendar, complete with Yulje branding.

ShinLee love to flex their attention to detail. Every prop could be an Easter egg.

    51368084075_75477305ff_o.png

Like this pair of matching dolls which weren’t there during S1. The black and white dolls are wearing blue and red scarves. Red and blue symbolise marriage. While black and white symbolise yin and yang.

During Iksong’s camping scene, they sat on black and white chairs with blue and red stripes. Again, symbolising marriage, and yin and yang.

    51367076336_ee158996e3_o.png

    Spoiler

    51367076326_ef95b1a15c_o.png

According to wiki, yin and yang is a concept of dualism, describing how obviously opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world.

ShinLee likes to pair up people with opposite personalities, so that they complement and complete each other. Jeongwon is sensitive and emotional, while Gyeoul is calm and stoic. Ikjun is the city guy, while Songhwa yearns for the countryside. Seokhyung is quiet and reserved, while Minha is bubbly and outgoing.

Being opposites, they can make up for each other’s shortcomings and learn from each other’s strengths.

    Spoiler

    51367808924_d2566a257f_o.png

Another Easter egg is this signage from Songhwa’s favourite camping site. The site in S2 is obviously different from the one she went to in S1, but the exact same signage magically re-appeared.

Yeoninsan (연인산) literally means “lovers mountain”. Local folklore has it that those coming to Yeoninsan wishing for true love will have their dreams come true. In the karaoke, song no. 104 is Choi Jin Hee’s “가버린 당신” (My Love Gone Away). The song talks about longing for a lover who has gone away. After Songhwa first went to this camping site in S1 ep 3, Ikjun filed for divorce. And now they’re at the camping site together. It’s as if the god of Yeoninsan has answered her prayers.

    51368084185_b70ccdc6fa_o.png

The flowers which Ikjun nonchalantly gave to Songhwa bears the exact same name as her – chae song hwa. The flower means "silent love", just like how Songhwa remained tight-lipped about her feelings towards Ikjun all these years.

Ikjun touched the yellow flower before passing it to Songhwa. If you rmb by now, yellow is Ikjun’s colour. My guess is when the flowers are in full bloom, that’s when Iksong becomes endgame.

I really love the way Iksong’s rls has progressed. When Songhwa called in ep 6, Ikjun knew she’s getting coffee. When he entered her room in ep 7, she knew it’s time for lunch. They’re so comfortable and used to being together, that they can understand each other without saying a word.

Songhwa is impatient when it comes to food, but instead of taking the lift, they walked across the hallway, took the escalator and then the stairs. And she patiently waited each time Ikjun bumped into someone along the way. Like what @Raynaa mentioned, this illustrates how their rls has taken a detour. They chose to take the longer route and enjoy the scenery as they slowly cruise to their destination.

    Spoiler

    51367808939_584d24aa69_o.png

She has also stopped asking, “What about the others?” This shows just how much she enjoys his company, and cherishes the time they spend together, just the two of them. Maybe that’s why Junwan looked extra lonely this ep. And he also made sure that Jaehak would eat lunch with him.

Seokhyung has also changed. In the past, he would eat alone while watching njttw. Now, he enjoys eating with Minha. And even though he had eaten, he gladly went back to eat again because Minha asked him to. Will we be able to see them dining together alone soon?

  5. Some people said there’s too much romance. Some others grumbled that there are too many medical scenes. There’s really no way to please everyone.

For those who compared S2 to S1 and felt disappointed, I’d suggest rewatching S2’s teaser videos. HP is not a medical blockbuster, go watch idk Romantic Doctor instead.

This teaser also outlined the key difference between S1 and S2.

S1: The slightly special everyday lives of us ordinary people

S2: The ordinary everyday lives of us special people

In S1, we were drawn in by the stories of the patients and were impressed by the skills and professionalism of the OT5. By S2, we’re familiar with their job scope, and the types of cases they handle. The medical cases which once seemed fascinating have become repetitive. This is not because the writer is lazy. A doctor’s life is simply routine and mundane like that. This is their everyday lives.

S2 deep dives into the lives of the characters who have become special to us – the OT5 (and their lovelines), and even the side characters like Rosa, Jaehak, Yunbok and Hongdo. The success of S2 depends on how deeply invested we are in the happiness of all these characters. Not sure about you, but I was on the edge of my seat each time Hongdo got a pop quiz from Junwan. And my heart sank when Rosa forgot the password to her house.

HP is a slice-of-life drama and ShinLee have said before, that romance is only a small part of our lives. Citing R88 as an example, only 20% of R88 was about romance. And yet the lovelines dominated the online discussion. ShinLee were disappointed that people focused so much on the husband hunt that they missed out on the stories on family and friendship.

It’ll be a pity if we only consider any developments in the lovelines as ‘plot progression’.

And who says the lovelines haven't progressed? There are subtle yet significant changes in the dynamics of gomgom and Iksong. And what appears to be a conflict for WG will only bring them closer to each other in the build-up to marriage.

I say. Are the viewers that detailed in their imagination? Or is the writer's imagination or attention to details that good? Adding to that is the PD that details orientated?

I don't know whether to subscribe to all these theories because that will mean the writer is that obsessed.

ShinLee is well-known for their obsession with detail. Every drama follows a carefully drawn out timeline that's specific down to the month and date. In the reply series, props are meticulously sourced to fit the year and setting.

I can't imagine the amount of research that went into HP. The medical details are so realistic and relatable that it's acknowledged by real doctors. Think that's a first for medical dramas?

Another thing that I really love about Shin pd's dramas is the casting. The actors casted have similar demeanours with the characters, so their acting comes across as natural and convincing. Even the minor side characters show amazing acting too, so it's easy for us to get immersed in the dramas.

I started reading about ShinLee's Easter eggs in R88. At first I thought, "Eh, no way..." But as the drama went on, all the details matched up, to an extent where it couldn't have been a simple coincidence. Some of the Easter eggs follow the same rules since R97.. isn't that crazy?

I've watched other dramas where Easter eggs were sometimes hidden like in the form of paintings and books. But these are usually found in the first half of the dramas as the writers tend to lose steam midway. Only ShinLee's dramas have Easter eggs consistently from the start till the end, and now across two seasons of HP.

The only drama which didn't contain these many Easter eggs, was Prison Playlist. Maybe because it wasn't written by LWJ, which makes me wonder if she's the crazier one of the two.

But that said, these Easter eggs are really just for fun, and at times they help to deepen our understanding of the characters and the production team's intent. I don't believe in every single theory out there. We're all free to have our own interpretations and that's part of the fun too.

  7. On seasons and skipping time

    51317759730_36703a875a_o.png

I loved the way ShinLee depicted the time skip. Instead of simply adding “One year later….” in the subtitles, they used music, food and clothes to show the changing seasons.

    51316960653_10f7e3535f_o.png

They used representative seasonal foods. Snow crab, as its name suggests, is in season during winter months, and they taste best from January to March. Cold soybean noodles (콩국수) are usually eaten during summer to beat the heat. Dotted gizzard shads (전어) taste best in autumn, when they’re plump and nutty, and their bones are soft enough to be eaten. Rice cake soup (떡국) is traditionally eaten during Seollal, hence it is representative of winter.

During the time skip, ShinLee also played Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Summer for soybean noodles, Autumn for the grilled fish and Winter for rice cake soup. And naturally, the Four Seasons remind us of the four ladies who represent the four seasons.

If you noticed, we skipped Spring 2020 altogether. Spring is Iksun’s season. It’s as if ShinLee is saying, during this one year, Iksun’s life has been put on pause. Nothing has happened, nothing has changed. And as we enter spring season in ep 6, I think we can finally expect some progress for Iksun and Junwan.

    Spoiler

    51316960703_3c31629801_o.png

Jeongwon: Hey, it’s so sweet. It’s like springtime.

Junwan: What do you mean? It’s January. It’s minus ten degrees Celsius out.

Ikjun: Maybe in his heart, it is.

In Korea, strawberries are in season from December to June, from winter to spring. When Jeongwon said the strawberries were so sweet, it was a reflection of how sweet his blooming relationship with Gyeoul is. Naturally, Junwan took offense at the mention of spring. Because spring is Iksun, and it felt like a harsh winter when they’re apart.

    On snow crabs

    Spoiler

    51317477494_dcfcf25eca_o.png

Junwan didn’t have anyone else to share the leftover snow crab with, and it was extra heartbreaking because he bought snow crab for Iksun last season. As if ShinLee is worried that we might forget about it, Ikjun referred to Junwan as Uju’s snow crab uncle (대게 삼촌). :tears:

    Spoiler

    51317477444_eb6f67c926_o.png

When Songhwa told Ikjun to give some snow crab to Uju, she said “uri Uju”, which means our Uju. Just like how Seokhyung called Minha “uri resident”.

    51316016687_6d64991c42_o.png

Some of the nuances and puns in LWJ’s writing is lost in translation on Netflix. Like when Jeongwon said he “put on gloves and shelled them”, he used the word “집도” (執刀), which means holding a surgical knife for surgery or dissection. It was a medical pun. That’s why he held his hands up, like he was getting ready for surgery.

  8. Once again, I was impressed by ShinLee after watching ep 5. Yeokshii, this duo is all about the details…. I have too much to write about, but first, let’s talk about the daisies.

    About the daisies

    51315825722_77630c50c8_o.png

The daisies which Dongil plucked were just like Songhwa. Their stems were broken, like her herniated disc.

    51316560341_9f436cfd2a_o.png

Like them, she was also uprooted from Yulje and transplanted at Sokcho for a while.

    51316771803_82b3d63ac5_o.png

After one year of TLC, both Songhwa and the daisies are nursed back to health. Daisy symbolizes a new beginning. It was the perfect gift for Songhwa, who just returned to Yulje.

I think it’s also meaningful that they were growned by Dongil, the eldest son and rightful heir to Yulje, and gifted to Songhwa by Jeongwon, the actual heir to Yulje and founder of DLL programme. It's like a welcome-back-to-work gift from the boss. :sweatingbullets:

    Spoiler

    51316560331_25c8fde80d_o.png

The colour purple was a reference to Sung appa’s daughter Bora in r88. And if you followed the colour theory, you’d know that purple represents Songhwa.

    Spoiler

    51315825807_29ba3ed594_o.png

I didn’t expect the production team to go this far for the colour theory, but they actually made the karaoke video using Iksong colours. Yellow for Ikjun, purple for Songhwa, while red and blue represent marriage.

And if you're curious, below are the videos used for TJ and KY karaoke systems:

  9. I saw many people bashing Iksun, and understandably so because we’ve been looking at bidulgi’s rls from Junwan’s POV. We hardly saw Iksun, except through her video calls with Junwan. I think we shouldn’t jump the gun and write her off before we see her side of the story.

I spent some time mulling over what happened, and here are my thoughts:

Iksun was pretending to be fine.

Before the accident, we always saw them having video calls, and Iksun always looked bright and cheerful. But after the accident, she stopped video calling him. Maybe she was in a worse shape than she described and she didn’t want to him to worry. It’s easier to sound happy over a voice call, than to pretend to be fine over a video call.

When Ikjun video called her, he could immediately tell that she looked unwell. Just like how Junwan kept his troubles from her, Iksun was also hiding her worries from him. She was trying to protect their relationship in her own way too.

    51305948226_ab2e38f536_o.png

Rmb last season, she checked her appearance before meeting Chihong. It wasn’t because she liked Chihong, but because he knew about her breakup and she wanted to appear fine and well in front of him.

I wonder if it's a common trait among successful and independent women. Songhwa tends to hide her vulnerable side from others too. Be it her herniated disc condition, or her breast lump scare. She always says she's fine, when her body screams otherwise.

There’s nothing between her and Segyeong.

Think most of us would agree on this, she was lying when she said she fell for someone else. After the accident, she officially introduced Segyeong to Junwan on the phone.

Junwan: Oh, hello. I’ve heard so much about you… No, right... Of course… I see…

    51306668849_7e33662d4c_o.png

Rmb last season after Junwan saw the misleading message on her phone, she invited him to the gosu party, and officially introduced him to the culprit. I suspect Iksun probably gave Segyeong an earful after finding out that he told Junwan about the accident. If she was well enough, she’d probably kick his shin non-stop.

Also, Iksun never meant to hide the fact that Segyeong is a guy. She created an IG acct for Junwan to follow, and if he looked at her posts, he'd know that Segyeong is a guy.

She didn’t know about her liver condition when she broke up with Junwan.

I think she broke up with Junwan with a lie because she thought they would be separated for the next 3 years. She probably thought, if things were this difficult from the start, it might be better to just break up. If she talked about the difficulties of LDR, Junwan might try to put in more effort to save the rls. Instead of dragging it out, why not end things cleanly by being the bad person?

Songhwa: As long as you both want to make it work and aren’t too far apart, just wait and see. Then something will come along. So many things can happen even in the span of a day, you know. Things happen, whether they’re good or bad. And sometimes, you have to call and meet up because of something that happens.

And as fate has it, something did happen and Iksun is coming back to Korea. It’s just a matter of time before Junwan finds out. Personally, I have no doubt that all four ships will sail eventually, it’s not a question of if, but when.

They give friends-to-lover trope with Iksong, LDR with Junsun, first relationship with wg. I just still don't get what the real message they wanna deliver with gomgom.

I'm not sure if every loveline needs to be accompanied with an educational message of sorts. But if we must find a message behind gomgom couple, maybe it's about getting a second chance at love after a failed marriage?

In Chinese, we call it 第二春, which literally means a second spring. And I found a quote, which I think is very beautiful and poetic.

"Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower." -- Albert Camus

Coincidentally, Chu Minha represents autumn in this drama. She'll usher in a second spring in Seokhyung's life and help him rediscover the beauty in life.

Autumn also reminds me of Jongsu, who stared at the falling leaves, which symbolise death. Now in his autumn years, he's come to the sad realisation that his children care more about their inheritance than him. In both seasons 1 & 2, he became depressed because of his family.

    51293452347_08674af79b_o.png

The flowers which Rosa tended to are Geraniums. Geraniums symbolise happiness, good health and friendship. This means that Rosa will spread good vibes to Jongsu, and counter his negative thoughts and emotions with positivity and happiness. They may not develop a loveline, but I believe they'll stay as soulmates for the rest of their lives. And that is more precious than anything else.

I remembered reading about Ahn Jeongwon's headache which wasn't shown just once but at least 3 times in the first season. I am just hoping that his character was just feeling tired or too dehydrated or just overworked but after watching Season 2 episode 1, I can feel some sort of foreshadowing. Probably just me but I could not get it out of my mind.

We've discussed this before in season 1. I think Jeongwon's headaches in season 1 was caused by psychological stress. Pressure from his mom to get married and stay by her side, his own passion as a doctor, his growing feelings for Gyeoul, and his decision to become a priest.

He didn't have headaches anymore after deciding to stay. So it's very likely that the headaches are psychological and nothing serious.

In R88, Taekkie also suffered from insomnia. That night after kissing Deoksun, he didn't eat any sleeping pills and slept like a baby. I think this is just LWJ's way to make her characters' emotional struggles more tangible.

  12. As the opening suggests, this week’s focus is on the patients.

The commonality among all these cases is that they illustrate the relationships between parents and their children. The violinist’s mother may be rude af, but at the end of the day, she is just a mother who wants the best for her daughter. The best neurosurgeon, the best treatment, the best chances at recovery. Just like Eunji and Minchan’s mothers. But I’m not sure if both their children, who have been placed on VAD, will pull through safely. I have a bad feeling about this.

Then, we have the alcoholic father who took his daughters’ livers for granted. It was a stark contrast to the pregnant mother who risked her life and tried her best to save her baby. It really broke my heart when the baby died.

"Bad things at times happen to good people."

I think this is something we all need to hear, especially during this pandemic where many people have lost their loved ones and their livelihoods, and are struggling to stay afloat. It's like a marathon, and we're all marathon runners. We may not be able to see the finish line yet, slowly but surely, we'll get there.

Lastly, we have the boy who refused to let Jeongwon remove the stitches, and his parents who couldn’t understand his aversion to pain. Fortunately for them, his cancer days are over, they can finally see the rainbow now.

    The sun is setting

In Front of the Post Office in Autumn

All the beautiful things in the world

    How long will they last?

Like the flowers that withstood the summer rain showers

And the trees that withstood the snowstorm last winter

Can everything under the sky stand alone?

    One autumn day

While waiting for you in front of the post office

I got carried away by my thoughts

And didn’t even realize the sun was setting

I didn’t even realize the sun was setting

I think this week’s song is very poetic. In the hospital context, it talks about how life is fragile and pain is temporary.

More importantly, this is a song for Seokhyung. To tell him no one should live alone. Autumn is when the days get shorter and the sun sets earlier. It's a timely reminder that the sun is setting on him. Life is short and he shouldn’t waste his time. And “Autumn” also refers to Minha.

Spring = Iksun; Summer = Songhwa; Autumn = Minha; Winter = Gyeoul (old post here)

Headcanon: If every ep is one month, we can probably expect Iksong endgame to happen in ep 8/9 (Summer: July/August) and Gomgom in ep 10-12 (Autumn: September-November)

    Iksong breadcrumbs

Ikjun has been driving a Benz since s1. Songhwa bought a new Benz in s2. Shall we call them the Benz couple?

Ikjun’s car plate number is 5435. Song number 5435 in KY karaoke system is Lee Moon Sae’s The Cult of Solo. It talks about a man who is leaving to find his love, and one day, his love will appear in front of him. Just like how Ikjun has left his failed marriage behind, and is waiting for Songhwa to come to him.

Oh I'm tired now, please find my love

She's the only one that will make my heart stop

If you beckon me, the sky and the clouds

I have no doubt that one day you will kneel before me

I hate myself too, I'm leaving to find my mate

Where is she going to take responsibility for my life?

Please beckon her to hold me all night

I have no doubt that one day you will appear by my side

I have no doubt that you will appear in front of me

    Spoiler

Songhwa’s car plate number is 1814. Song number 1814 in TJ karaoke system is Lee Moon Sae’s Sunflower. Both songs were released in the same album, this can’t be a coincidence! This song talks about a man trying to forget a sad love, but he still misses her, and thinking of her still makes him smile. Songhwa may have forgotten about her first love, but Ikjun remains the only one who keeps making her smile and laugh.

(The lyrics doesn’t really make sense cause they were Google translated.)

    I know I haven't forgotten those memories

When I saw a picture full of sunflowers, I smiled at the thought of you

It's all gone too far so I can forget the sad love

When I see myself chased after all the years, thinking of you makes me smile

In those years of living like that, when I woke up, I missed you

You nodded at my shabby lies

Your sad voice, the world loves you

It's all gone so I can forget the sad love

When I see myself being chased through the years, thinking of you makes me smile

    Spoiler

I read a comment on YouTube saying Ikjun probably bought two cups of coffee to drink with Songhwa. Caffeinated for her, decaf for him. But he saw her sleeping in the office, so he left the coffee on her car instead.

Just like how Gyeoul probably ordered an extra cup of coffee for Jeongwon. During their dinner date, he poured warm water for her, but not for himself. At the cafe, Junwan asked, "Aren't you cold?" and Jeongwon answered no. So, my guess is, the Iced Americano was for Jeongwon. Moreover, he ordered coffee for all the nurses in PICU, but not for himself. He must have known Gyeoul was buying coffee for him, and he came down to see her.

Songhwa probably recognised Ikjun's handwriting because he has a unique way of writing exclamation marks, ever since 1999 (under spoiler).

    Spoiler

    51273244947_91ab12af99_o.png

In ep 2, it’s even more obvious now that Iksong should be managing DLL together in the future. Given her condition, Songhwa wouldn’t be able to handle DLL alone when she returns to Seoul. Jeongwon said he should’ve asked Ikjun instead.

And now Ikjun knows Songhwa is the new DLL. He has been worried about Songhwa’s health and taking care of her secretly. He got the coffee for her, and he probably asked Seokmin to assist Songhwa's op. I think he’ll find a way to help her sooner or later.

  13. The handwriting on the coffee sleeves looks like Jo Jungsuk's. So they should be from Ikjun.

At the start of the ep, he bought coffee for everyone when he was still in the basement carpark. At the end of the ep, he bought coffee for Songhwa and left it in the basement carpark.

I watch a review on YouTube saying the basement in HP is used to reveal the characters' true feelings that are hidden inside their hearts. So it was intentionally written such that Ikjun left the coffee on her car, instead of bringing them to her room.

And rmb last season, after accompanying her to get the biopsy results, Ikjun brought her coffee, just when she was thinking about it. It's almost as if he could read her mind and know exactly what she wants.

also winter garden couple I see a lot of posts that say he’s more into her than she is. But I feel that Jeong Won is so happy cause the burden of deciding the course of his life is off his shoulders and he’s relieved and that’s why he’s able to express himself. Also her falling in love at first sight with Jeong Won (as per the conversation with  IkJun) and being irrevocably in love despite his cold behaviour and lack of appreciation in season 1 kind of gets balanced out seeing his reaction and behaviour in season 2. So I think the scales are kind of balanced now :)

I think it's ridiculous and frankly childish to compare who loves the other more. How do you measure love anyway? Is there a special weighing scale for that?

They're in love with each other, and that's enough.

Gyeoul blow-dried her hair, wore contact lenses and dolled up for the date. Contrast that to her wet hair look just that morning. And the fact that she uses a binder clip as a hair clip, and wears the same clothes all year round.

Seeing how Jeongwon is giddy with happiness and totally whipped for Gyeoul, shows just how hard he tried to control his feelings for her last season. Boy, how did he manage to hold himself back all this while??

None of the other predators in this series needed help to lure victims.
Tie-knot predator murdered enough females without any help.

Predators think they have superior genes and are more concerned about getting a spouse and reproduce predator-junior. HJ is of no value to HH (may be of value to writer as a forced thread to weave in some plot).

When MC was prepping the live show, he told his superiors how serial killers can become conceited after a few kills and end up getting caught for making a silly mistake.

I think that was exactly what happened to HH. He kidnapped the children with no intentions of killing them. His primary motive was to provoke the detective who declared on national TV that he'll catch HH. Using HJ as an accomplice was his way of getting back at the detective.

The other ridiculous mistake imo was hiding the heads in the snowman. If temperatures rose overnight, the snowman would've melted and exposed the heads.

  16. There's nothing much to write about as much of the plot is progressing as I've expected.

I think detective Shin's father will play a vital role in the next episode. He needs to win the presidential elections and get rid of the female politician and the OZ organization.

If OZ people are following Ba-reum and he is the Predator, what were they doing during the 7-sins killings?  Why would those scenes not be cleaned?

My theory: the female politician is behind the OZ people. Her aim is to pass the law to abort fetuses with the psychopath gene.

OZ people are related to victims killed by serial killers. They believe it's their duty to help pass this law, and prevent more victims from being killed in the future.

They didn't clean up after the 7 sins killings because BR has the psychopath gene. If he gets caught, it'll help support their case.

But with the twist of events, the public now believes that YH is the serial killer. If YH, who has the psychopath gene as well, is revealed to be innocent and kind, it'll be detrimental to their case.

Any thoughts about how HJS got out of prison to do the operation?

    HH has connections.

Look at him, sitting in his private cell and reading news on his phone. The fact that he has access to a phone suggests that he is getting special treatment in prison. When he was jailed in 1995, smartphones weren’t even out yet, and yet he’s familiar with it. This means he has been using it for quite a while. He must have some strong connections.

    51083814596_eac57cb382_o.png

Edited to add: There's a difference between private cell and solitary confinement. Solitary confinement is a physical and mental torture because you're not allowed to go out and exercise, meet visitors or interact with other inmates. Solitary confinement cells are also much smaller and darker compared to normal cells. Evidently, HH wasn't in solitary confinement.

HH has been honing his surgical skills.

He has been performing experimental surgeries on his victims and on mice. HJ sent a recording of the surgery to Politician Choi. Maybe she approached HH first. Maybe HH volunteered to perform the surgery after reading the news about BR.

    But why?

Because HH knew his real son is BR, not YH.

HH is very quick on the uptake. He probably suspected YH isn’t his son when YH visited him. Then he saw BR. He could tell from one look that BR is a psychopath, just like him. He immediately took an interest in BR.

    51014631660_4148e6e911_o.png

Later, he read that the prison had obtained every prisoner’s DNA sample. He asked the doctor and confirmed YH was there (to take his DNA sample). By this alone, he knew that YH isn’t his real son.

    51083868636_e03082da2b_o.png

So, when HH read in the news that YH attacked BR, he knew that YH had found his real son — BR. HH performed the surgery to save his son, BR. He wasn’t worried about YH, and he wasn’t upset that YH died.

    Spoiler

    51083844711_77bd585bb2_o.png

I think the whole brain transplant plot is a fake out, to confuse BR and make he think "psychopath YH" is living inside him. This is also the reason (in terms of storytelling), why YH has to die, and Chikook is still in a coma. Eventually, BR will realise he is the real psychopathic serial killer and Chikook would be the only living victim who can testify against him.

@Avocado80 I think it's because the Predator is an exhibitionist, and he enjoys the thrill of killing. He won't quietly kill Chikook off by injecting poison into his drip (like what YH tried to do to BR). He was probably waiting for him to wake up and then kill him.

  19. Re: The Knot Killer

We were shown a few times that the lawyer wears a ring on his left hand. The person who attacked BY also wore a ring on his left hand. The lawyer is the real killer, not his father.

    51081178547_ed8af3aa7c_o.png

He’s also very likely the person who took photos of BY and sent them to Kang Duk Soo. Now that his father is dead, will he join hands with KDS?

    51011901325_fc36e11c45_o.png

Similarities between BR and the lawyer

Both chose an occupation which perpetuates confirmation bias.

BR chased after YH: YH must be the killer because BR is a policeman.

BR was attacked by YH: YH must be the killer because BR is a policeman.

Public opinion will always rule in BR’s favour. Similarly, the lawyer does voluntary work for runaway teenagers and females living alone. No one would suspect that he would be a serial killer who targets women.

Both of them had solid alibis.

The lawyer volunteered to install window grilles on the day of the murder. But surely it doesn’t take one full day to install the grilles. He could’ve finished his business and killed the woman afterwards. This means that the murder was planned and he was careful enough to create alibis for himself.

BR also created a solid alibi for himself during the live broadcast. However, the last time we saw him was at Moojin Police Station at 22:47. When the corrupted video was restored, it was a policewoman who called MC. BR wasn’t there anymore. BR had enough time to go to the church and kill the priest.

    51081085091_95b4308f47_o.png

BR also knew beforehand that the priest would be back in Gudong. So, he could’ve kidnapped the priest before the show and go back to kill him off.

The corpse they found wasn’t Park’s daughter, but this girl who went missing at around the same time.

    Spoiler

    51081188512_9f15e4af0c_o.png

I suspect the lawyer killed the girl when he was still a child. His detective father found Hyun Soo’s belongings when searching for her, and planted them when burying the girl. That's why he retired from the police force.

“The clothes and shoes that they found were the same as the ones Hyun Soo was wearing when she was kidnapped. The ran a DNA test with the hair found on the hair tie at the scene, and it was a match.”

Hyun Soo was used by HH as a bait and accomplice. She was dressed like a boy, she wasn’t wearing the clothes she was kidnapped in.

    Spoiler

    51080389768_e0e24a4d0b_o.png

Hyun Soo grew up to become HJ. Maybe she felt guilty, or maybe she developed the Stockholm syndrome. So, she decided not to go back to her parents.

I suspect HJ and the lawyer knew each other when they were kids. After all, their dads were colleagues so it’s possible that they’ve met before. Maybe they learnt how to tie the knot together, unaware that it’s actually wrong.

  20. Re: Brain Transplant

Ep 7 & 8 confirmed my suspicions: JH = BR = The Predator.

I don’t think any brain transplant was done. If YH had sepsis, he cannot be an organ donor. Unless, the doctors lied about his cause of death. Even in the unlikely scenario that a brain transplant was done, I believe the flashbacks BR are seeing are entirely his own memories.

ONE: If YH’s frontal lobe was transplanted to BR’s brain, like replacing a harddisk in a computer, BR should’ve inherited all of YH’s memories. He shouldn’t recall his memories with BY or MC.

TWO: BR’s body remembers how to fight. Learning how to fight takes training and practice. And it’s not something controlled by the brain. This means that BR was good fighter all along, but he pretended to be weak in front of others.

THREE: When BR described the psychopath killers, he was speaking from experience. Even tho BR can’t remember the killings, he still has the Predator’s know-how.

BR: No one keeps it together enough to clean and stage the scene after killing for the first time.

Predator: My first kill was sloppy and I remember being exhausted.

BR: He stabbed her in a way that wouldn’t kill her, enjoyed the pain that she was in, and then choked her at the very end.

Predator: Until it takes its last breath, a prey should fight for dear life. However, this certain prey lacks the energy to do so. Which makes this hunt too easy and boring.

BR: I wouldn’t target someone I know. Why? Because I want to enjoy the process without getting caught.

Even tho BR knew Chikook and the priest personally, as the Predator, he chose victims who appeared on TV before. So, the killer could’ve been anyone who watched TV.

BR noticed the lawyer wrote with his left hand, but he pretended to be a righty when tying the knot.

Similarly, JH/BR writes and eats with his right hand, but he deliberately left evidence to suggest he is a lefty.

If JH = BR = Predator, this also means that the surgery didn’t turn BR into a genius. He has always been a genius with an IQ of 160. He was only pretending to be a clueless fool. He joined the investigation team only to keep tabs on the police.

  21. @holyfea For me, it doesn’t really matter if BR is righty or ambidextrous. What makes him sus is how he repeatedly pointed out and emphasized that the serial killer is a lefty. So much so that it’s obvious he’s trying to mislead them.

The serial killer we know is meticulous and manipulative. He removed the soles of his shoes and was careful not to leave any DNA behind. He is familiar with how the police work. He could’ve deliberately used his left hand for specific actions, with the intention to mislead the police.

  22. YH didn’t kill granny, it was BR. The killer’s jacket was long, like BR’s. YH’s jacket was short.

    51054936818_1f16fca00b_o.png

YH didn’t kill Daniel. YH wore a hoodie under his jacket, but the attacker didn’t wear any hoodie.

    51055743872_0e3e2ea45c_o.jpg

But it wasn’t BR either. He was with the search team in prison at that time. Since Daniel’s body isn’t found yet, he could still be alive.

Maybe the person who attacked Daniel was his long-lost brother. And it was one of the serial killer’s 7 deadly sins social experiment. Like what he did with Hankook, he wanted to see if he was envious of Daniel, who was adopted to the US and became successful. Maybe the Ferris wheel in the amusement park held special meaning for the brothers, hence they arranged to meet there.

YH witnessed the attack, saved Daniel and accidentally killed the brother. So, he dumped the body into the sea, went to Hongju’s place and told her he’s scared.

YH can’t be the serial killer because:

    1. He dumped the body into the sea. The MO was different from the other victims.

    2. He once tried to harm BR by injecting something into his drip. That was a very discreet way of killing someone, very different from the serial killer’s exhibitionist style.

    3. His bloodied shoes had soles, whereas the serial killer removed his soles to avoid leaving evidence.

My guess as to why YH wants to kill BR: YH hated his father because growing up, he was bullied for being HH’s son. And so, when he found out that BR is a two-faced psychopathic serial killer just like HH, he wanted to get rid of BR.

    Why BR is sus:

    1. He commented on how Chikook refused to claim credit during the TV interview.

    2. He watched Hankook on TV and he knew the Goat Man character was popular: he gave granny a Goat Man band-aid.

    3. He switched sides for his crutch, suggesting that his leg has healed and he was faking it.

    4. From the start, the serial killer had planned to submit a fake video. And BR was the one who proposed doing a fake video.

    5. When BR and MC searched the prison church, MC looked inside the communion cup, but there was no finger in it. How did the finger appear during mass? It was BR who planted the finger afterwards. This also explains why blood was still dripping from the roof. BR planted the clothes right before the search.

    51039314277_b0cd047c84_o.jpg

    6. BR knew YH is HH’s son ever since he saved him, and he recognised YH right from the start in the hospital. He may have been keeping tabs on YH. This matches what Jaehoon said, “My mom said there was another child who had the monster gene. I’ve always wondered what happened to that child.”

    7. BR is a righty, YH is a lefty. The serial killer is Jaehoon, and he was clearly a righty. BR deliberately used his left hand at times to mislead the police.

    Spoiler

    51055742842_1d9a598e51_o.png

Now we just need the writer to tell us, how did Jaehoon end up becoming BR?

Edited to add: Rewatched the part where MC asked for money from Sung Jieun. The child who called out "omma" offscreen didn't sound like Kim Kanghoon. Also, a YouTuber pointed out that if Sung Jieun was Jaemin's mom, he would've hid behind her when she came to save him, instead of running home. So the baby swop theory could be legit.

  23. I've considered various possibilities. But after rewatching ep 1 twice, I came to the conclusion that the storyline is relatively straightforward.

The killer is Jaehoon. He is drawn to predator-prey relationships in nature. He hates God, thinking that God has forsaken him. He has Jaehoon's kindergarten photo framed up below his trophy wall. He takes photos of his victims as trophies (the lady who discovered the second body said she saw a camera flash).

Edited to add: @bedifferent I think the killer = Jaehoon = kid in yellow raincoat because the killer has this photo at home.

    spacer.png

The resemblance between Jaehoon's mom and HH's wife is a red herring. Hence, Jaehoon mom's face was deliberately blurred. HH's wife got pregnant late, so it's unlikely that she can have another two children.

Bareum can't be Jaehoon. Because this is the older version of the character synopsis (thanks @incoty): He is a rookie detective who lost all of his memory after an accident. When he wakes up from the accident, he gets a special ability who can see and read killers’ thoughts and ways.

In the highlight video, he was clearly chasing someone (presumably the killer) when he met an accident. The accident may trigger his psychopath gene, causing him to see and think like a psychopath.

According to early casting news, there's one main villain in this drama. Choi Jinhyuk was casted but didn't appear for script reading or any publicity event. That's because he's the villain, but his face cannot be revealed yet. Hence, they used lil Jaehoon to front the poster, with words that form a cross. Again implying that Jaehoon is the killer who uses a cross as his MO.

Yohan is a biblical name. What's also interesting in this drama is the juxtaposition of people who believe in God, and those who don't. The priest who chose to forgive and reconcile, versus Moochi who seeks revenge; Yohan who is (presumably) raised as a Christian/Catholic, versus Jaehoon who thinks that God has forsaken him.
