  7. Uhm Tae-gu falls for Han Sun-hwa in My Sweet Mobster by solstices Previously known as The Woman Who Plays, JBTC’s upcoming rom-com has taken on the new moniker of My Sweet Mobster, as if hoping to start a new era of My Lovely [insert noun here]. Starring Uhm Tae-gu (Hometown), Han Sun-hwa (Work Later, Drink Now 2), and Kwon Yul (Longing for You), the drama chronicles the (mis)adventures of a reformed criminal who falls in love for the first time. As a former mob boss who has resolved to step away from his dark past, Seo Ji-hwan (Uhm Tae-gu) now goes against the very criminal organizations he used to participate in. Since stepping into the light, Ji-hwan has founded a social enterprise called “The Thirsty Deer,” offering employment opportunities to ex-convicts who seek to turn over a new leaf. Despite his legacy of crime, Ji-hwan is a romantic at heart — dreamy music plays as he strikes a series of suave poses, ready to be the Prince Charming to the one who’s struck his fancy. Said lady love is Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa), looking delicately picturesque as her hair flutters in the breeze. Cupping her face gently, Ji-hwan finally makes his move… and proceeds to stutter out a nervous confession. Cue record scratch and comedic tunes, lol. Turns out Ji-hwan is a total novice at love, getting flustered when Eun-ha grabs his tie and yelping in a wide-eyed panic when she presumably walks in on him shirtless. “Ah, so you’re a love eunuch,” Eun-ha teases, poking fun at his lack of experience. Hilariously, we actually get a scene of Ji-hwan striking a moktak like a celibate monk in meditation, LOL. What he lacks in expertise, though, he makes up for with bucketfuls of earnest sincerity and finger hearts. Perhaps that might just be the way to Eun-ha’s heart — as a children’s content creator full of exuberance and kindness, she treasures her fond memories of a childhood neighborhood oppa. (One guess who that might be.) We don’t get to see the third corner of our love triangle just yet, but Jang Hyun-woo (Kwon Yul) is a prosecutor with no sympathy for prisoners and no faith in rehabilitation. He’s the antithesis to everything Ji-hwan stands for, and he’ll challenge him in both ideals and love — Hyun-woo is Eun-ha’s most fervent subscriber. Rounding out the supporting cast, we also have Kim Hyun-jin (Cheer Up) and DKZ’s Jaechan (Semantic Error) as Ji-hwan and Hyun-woo’s loyal subordinates. Directed by Kim Young-hwan (Today’s Webtoon) and Kim Woo-hyun (Ode to Our Youth), with scripts penned by Na Kyung, My Sweet Mobster is slated for a June 12 premiere. https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/05/uhm-tae-gu-falls-for-han-sun-hwa-in-my-sweet-mobster/
  8. Blood Free: Episodes 9-10 (Final) by solstices Drawing the curtain on its bloodstained tale of humanity and ethics, Blood Free lays bare the morality and depravity of human nature, illuminating the lengths that humankind will go to in order to sate the hunger for survival. Raw desperation drives our characters forward, maintaining the nail-biting suspense right up to its thought-provoking conclusion. EPISODES 9-10 At long last, the truth of the military zone attack is brought to light. Chae-woon’s transparent sincerity moves Geun’s ex-wife LEE JUNG-YEON (Nam Ki-ae), and after a brief call to Jae, she admits everything she knows. While snooping through Geun’s phone for evidence of his affairs, she’d discovered TATP — an explosive — in his search history. Two months later, that same explosive was used in the bombing, and Jung-yeon divorced Geun in horror and guilt. She’d also confided in Jae, but her son hadn’t believed her — or so he claimed. When Moon-kyu finds out, he collapses from the shock. In a painkiller-induced delirium, he speaks to Jae as if he’s Chae-woon. “Cover it up,” Moon-kyu urges. “The more you dig, the more cans of worms you uncover.” He’d rather lay his vengeance down, for Jung-yeon and Jae’s sake. Jae’s face crumples, briefly but painfully, and he brushes tears away as he leaves — a rare moment of human vulnerability from our master manipulator. Now that he finally has the full story, Chae-woon visits Kir again with the truth. When Chae-woon reveals the mastermind as DORSON’s chairman Geun, Kir confesses that he’d accidentally let slip the barracks’ location to his cousin, who had then orchestrated the attack and blackmailed him into becoming the scapegoat. As for Hae-deun, her underwater diving hobby has paid off; she acts unconscious and holds her breath for minutes on end, tricking Hui into panicking and releasing her restraints. The moment she’s free, she takes Sae-ip hostage with the broken spoon, forcing her to drive away. However, the escape is short-lived. Sae-ip throws herself out of the moving car, leaving Hae-deun to crash into the closed BF gates. With hordes of reporters swarming the main BF building, the reticent San steels his nerves to address them. Though he confirms that BF has indeed successfully cultured human organs, he remains adamant that they will not perform the transplant surgeries on Ja-yoo. Upstairs, San meets Ja-yoo and Chae-woon to consolidate their information and ponder over Jae’s true motive. He hadn’t instructed his mother to keep mum, or blocked Chae-woon’s movements, or sought to eliminate him despite having ample opportunity to. It’s almost as if Jae wants his father’s sins to be revealed to the world. Then San receives the news of Hae-deun’s hospitalization, leaving Kir as the only avenue they can currently pursue. Ja-yoo instructs Chae-woon to fly to Dubai and retrieve Kir’s cousin, assuring him that she’ll look after Man-shik the cat in his absence. Brewing tea for her since she’s been drinking too much coffee, Chae-woon entreats Ja-yoo to promise that she won’t undergo the surgery until he returns, only leaving when she finally acquiesces. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/05/blood-free-episodes-9-10-final/
  9. Frankly Speaking: Episodes 3-4 by DaebakGrits Our news anchor returns to work with very little fanfare and finds himself at a crossroads. Will he continue to live a lie to appease those who undervalue him, or will he open his mouth and tell the truth? It’s a tough choice, but our variety show writer is there to help him through it. EPISODES 3-4 We begin this week’s episodes with Ki-baek’s origin story. As a wee boy, his family was even worse off financially than they are in the present, and when the loan sharks came a knockin’, his mother would take Ki-baek and his brothers to a nearby playground to distract them and keep them safe. Because Ki-baek was young and innocent, he was not fully aware of the threat the loan sharks posed, so he didn’t understand why he should lie — something he’d been previously taught was bad — to avoid the men looking for his family. That’s when his mother explained to him that sometimes lies could be good, especially if they were used to protect you. Time passes, and we see Ki-baek using more lies to fit in with his peers and to passively cultivate an image that’s outwardly more appealing to others. He mostly skirts the truth with lies of omission, failing to correct his classmates and coworkers when they make false assumptions about his life. Case in point, after a night out drinking with his coworkers, he truthfully tells them that he lives nearby in a fancy high rise, but he fails to confess that he’s housesitting for his sunbae who actually owns the apartment. (Yeah, the very sunbae that we learned last week is returning to Seoul and kicking Ki-baek to the curb.) In the present, we join Ki-baek and Woo-joo on the beach where they’ve washed up after their impromptu cliff diving excursion. As they cough up sea water, they bicker back and forth until Woo-joo finally realizes that her good intentions were entirely misplaced. Ki-baek walks off in a huff… only to realize Ji-hoo has returned to Seoul without him. He humbles himself in order to beg Woo-joo for a ride back to the city, but because she doesn’t want either of them to get sea water on the interior of her new car, they both change into some rather embarrassing Men on the Run outfits. These are the kind of outfits that scream “look at me,” so of course our OTP can’t simply enjoy their car ride in peace. The drama gods must interfere so that Ki-baek’s “RUN BRO” butt cheeks get some much needed exposure, and that is how our characters end up at the hospital after Woo-joo passes out from a mild case of hypothermia. While this series of scenes sets the audience up for a good laugh, it culminates with Ki-baek coaching a child to lie in order to gain the attention of the hospital staff who’d been ignoring his pleas for them to check on his unconscious brother — a somber reminder that lying not only protects but gets you ahead in this unfair world. And speaking of things that are unfair, when Ki-baek returns to work after his forced hiatus, he’s ostracized by his co-workers and not assigned any work. And to add insult to injury, Manager Kim still gives Ki-baek the opportunity to interview for the coveted news anchor position — but only as a formality since the station has already picked the guy they want to fill the role. Even though he knows he’s just there to round out the numbers, Ki-baek attends the interview as a matter of pride. At the same time, Woo-joo has been going through her fair share of workplace woes, too. For starters, no one likes her new variety show idea, claiming it’s outdated and unoriginal, and to make matters worse, her former hoobae, LEE HA-YOUNG (Lee Bom-sori), has now joined the team. Ha-young was completely hapless when she was a newbie under Woo-joo, but somehow she managed to become a head writer first and surpass Woo-joo in success. Woo-joo is still the head writer for their upcoming project, but Ha-young has a higher salary. Dejected after another day of overhearing others doubt her abilities, Woo-joo wanders into Ki-baek’s interview, and it’s not going well. The switch has been flipped again, and he’s struggling to maintain his composure while the film and production crew openly ridicule him through his earpiece. He’s just itching to give them a piece of his mind. Woo-joo realizes that he’s in trouble, and — claiming that she’s his stylist — runs onto the news set to give him a last minute pep talk. She pats his chest and tells him to protect his heart, a reference to one of their earlier conversations when she told him that he needs to cheer himself up during tough times. Her words have a calming effect on Ki-baek, who tamps down on his panic and delivers the sample news script perfectly. Even the naysayers behind the cameras compliment his delivery, but they also assume Ki-baek is another willing participant in the “RickRoll'D show” the network is putting on to keep up the appearance of fairness in their hiring process. As Ki-baek listens to their conversation through his earpiece, he’s reminded of when Woo-joo asked him what the news means to him, and he chooses this moment to answer the question and reveal that he loves the news because he wants to speak the truth. more https://www.dramabeans.com/2024/05/frankly-speaking-episodes-3-4/
