class="cb b15"Will Viewers Compare "Medical Top Team" To "Good Doctor?"

Kwon Sang Woo

The two medical dramas "Good Doctor" and "Medical Top Team" won't compete with each other for a time slot, but that doesn't mean viewers won't compare them.

There are differences. "Good Doctor" is shot at Sung Won University Hospital and "Medical Top Team" will be filmed a Severence Hospital in Sinchon. "Good Doctor" has Joo Won playing a genius doctor with autism spectrum disorder. He works in a supportive team. "Medical Top Team " will have a genius surgeon who belongs to a highly competitive team of top experts.

Despite the differences, "Medical Top Team" star Kwon Sang Woo says that he cannot watch "Good Doctor."

"I'm jealous," he said of the viewer ratings that "Good Doctor" achieved. "But I'm sure we can do better.

He says he hopes that "Medical Top Team" will reach a target of 42.8 percent in viewer ratings and that a show cannot truly be called a drama unless it reaches 30 percent. "Good Doctor" recently cleared 20 percent in its ratings.

For those who like medical dramas, the show's trailer demonstrates that "Medical Top Team" will offer plenty of exciting emergencies and challenging life and death situations.

Kwon plays genius surgeon Park Tae Shin. While Joo Won found it difficult to portray the savant aspects of his character, Kwon says one of the biggest challenges is having to use medical jargon.

"I get nervous when I am pronouncing the words in the script and that causes a lot of mistakes," said Kwon, who appeared in "Queen of Ambition" and "Dae Mul." "But that is helping me as an actor because I won't give up until I am satisfied I have done it right."

Helping him to face those challenges is his co-star Jung Ryeo Won, who previously appeared in "My Lovely Kim Sam Soon" and "The King of Dramas." The two worked in the film "Pained."

"It's so much more comfortable on set than it would be if I was working with an actress that I didn't know," said Kwon. "Jung Ryeo Won is so kind and sensible. She listens to other's opinions, which makes communication so much easier.

Jung Ryeo Won plays Seo Joo Young, an ambitious thoracic surgeon. Also in the drama are SHINee's Minho, Oh Yeon Seo, Joo Ji Hoon, Kim Young Ae, Ahn Nae Sang, Kim Ki Bang and Alex.

Kim Di Hoon, who directed "The Moon Embracing The Sun," is the director.

The drama begins on Oct. 2 after the end of "Two Weeks."

class="post-title"Medical Top Team vs The Inheritors

sws

MBC’s Medical Top Team will be competing head-to-head with SBS’ The Inheritors when both drama premiere October 9.

Both are star-studded drama, but it seems that The Inheritors gets more buzz because of it’s young superstars cast (Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye) comparing to Medical’s more grown-up actors.

Which drama will win the rating ?
Kwon Sang Woo leads Medical Top Team,  he’s as usual producing great acting and his last 2 dramas (Yawang & Daemul) got very good rating. But, if the story doesn’t interesting, Kwon Sang Woo alone would not able to save the drama.
Meanwhile The Inheritors comes from writer Kim Eun Sook who her last 2 dramas (Secret Garden and A Gentleman’s Dignity) created massive success. Will The Inheritor with young armada do the same for her ?

We’ll get the answer next week !

While in waiting, let’s check Medical Top Team‘s press conference session which was held on September 24, attended by its main cast : Kwon Sang Woo, Jung Ryu Won, Joo Ji Hoon, Oh Yeon Seo and Minho.

"Medical Top Team" Kwon Sang-woo and Jeong Ryeo-won face trouble

photo358084.jpg

Park Tae-sin (kwon Sang-woo) and Seo Joo-yeong (Jeong Ryeo-won) met for the first time in the new drama "Medical Top Team".

Joo-yeong attended the 60th anniversary event of Gwanghye University and faced conflict with Tae-san over a suddenly unconscious victim.

Tae-san said, "The patient is suffering from melus syndrome" and Joo-yeong said it was a simple PSVT.

Tae-sin suggested a bet and disappeared.

It was melus syndrome after all.

*** What this person has done is just to continue a project that was already in production, so, why accused him of stealing the work of the original writer? If he didn’t continue it he’ll change the whole story of the drama. He really has to continue the script. I guess this is not fair at all to him. Why expelled him?:(

“Queen of Ambition” Writer Lee Hee Myung Is Expelled from Writer’s Association for Copyright Infringement

On October 21, the board of directors for the Korean Radio & TV Writers Association decided to expel writer Lee Hee Myung, who wrote the drama “Queen of Ambition” (aka “Yawang“).

Lee Hee Myung, who was brought on in the middle of the drama, continued “Queen of Ambition” with some of the same characters and storyline of the previous writer. The writers association, after receiving a petition, had since been carrying out an investigation.

An official of the association said, “We determined that it was an infringement of copyright, and after a meeting with the board of directors, decided to expel [Lee Hee Myung].”

Lee Hee Myung had previously received praise for his works “Tomato,” “A Bright Girl’s Success Story,” “Rooftop Prince,” etc.

As paparazzi and the media became more aggressive, celebrities have become more careful and conservative in deciding who to invite to their weddings.

We’re all used to the private weddings of celebrities. But, press lines were formed and private weddings only became a trend just a decade ago.

Lets check out which celebrities had private weddings!

***It would seem that the real issue is with the production company and not the replacement writer at all. I think the producers should also be at fault here. :(

Plagiarism gets Yawang writer ousted from scriptwriters association
by javabeans
| October 23, 2013

yawang18.jpg

Here’s an interesting story (or is it just interesting to me?) about the fate of the scriptwriter for Yawang, Lee Hee-myung, who has been accused of plagiarism and has now been kicked out of the Korean TV & Radio Writers Association as a direct result.

This is actually the second time Yawang has been accused of plagiarism, the first instance occurring when Yawang debuted early this year and immediately raised concerns with its similarity to the plot of Nice Guy, KBS’s hit melodrama from last fall penned by star writer Lee Kyung-hee. (The comparison was unavoidable, given some obvious similarities: Nice Guy is about a sweet young man who takes the fall for the beloved noona of his youth, who leaves him behind as she marries a rich man and transforms into a cold, opportunistic schemer; the hero then decides to seek revenge against her. Yawang features a hero who’s loved the heroine since childhood, she discards him in her ambitious greed for power, he vows revenge…

Still, similarities in basic plot structure do not plagiarism make, and that tempest in a teapot settled down eventually. Yawang’s PD even stated that he’d revised some of the plot to avoid further similarities to Nice Guy, given their overlap.

However, then more plagiarism claims arose regarding the fact that the first scripts for Yawang were written by Choi Ran (of Iljimae), but Lee Hee-myung was then hired as replacement. (Other works by Lee Hee-myung include Tomato, Successful Story of a Bright Girl, and Rooftop Prince.) In response to the claim (and a petition that circulated), the writers association set up a committee to investigate plagiarism and copyright infringement issues. After a detailed investigation, the committee determined that Lee plagiarized Choi’s synopsis and scripts, and expelled him following the rules of their disciplinary committee and board of directors’ rules.

yawang_17.jpg

I have to say, it sounds like an odd claim to make when both writers worked on the same show (albeit not at the same time), unless the point of contention is that writer Lee passed off the other scripts as his own work. The stories don’t clarify that point, but I have to presume something in that vein for it to make sense. The committee stated, “A writer’s original work is their lifeblood, and thus the violation of one’s copyright is dealt with with severe punishment. We appeal to our writer members to be aware of this to prevent further unpleasant reoccurrences of this kind.”

The story doesn’t end there, though, as writer Lee then took the writers association to court on October 15 for a civil suit claiming that his expulsion was invalid and demanded 50 million won in compensation. Lee’s legal team asserted that writer Choi was acting out of spite for being fired after her scripts were deemed inadequate. He has a point in that Yawang is an adaptation of a manhwa and therefore has source material, but I’d be curious to know what the detailed investigation turned up supporting the infringement conclusion.

On one hand, it’s somewhat reassuring to see that plagiarism claims do get treated seriously. On the other hand, there does seem to be some dicey territory in there and if he was playing fair, it sucks to be blacklisted from your own organization. On the other hand (what, you don’t have three hands?), if he plagiarized, the punishment seems fitting. On the fourth and final hand, I hate plagiarists and cheaters because having someone claim your (awesome, brilliant!) work with their name is a really sucky feeling.

So in conclusion: Plagiarism is bad, don’t do it—seriously don’t do it—and sometimes people get caught which is nice, unless it’s a false accusation which is less nice. So maybe there is no conclusion.

Kwon Sang Woo Shows Off Coat Given to Him by Jackie Chan

On October 26, actor Kwon Sang Woo posted a picture of himself wearing a coat that was gifted to him by Jackie Chan on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter. With the image, he wrote, “Jackie gave me this coat during the filming of CZ12. I changed the color of the buttons. So warm. ” The word “CZ12” refers to the movie “Chinese Zodiac” that starred the actors mentioned above back in 2012.

The coat Kwon Sang Woo is wearing looks like something a traditional Chinese army commander would wear. The picture seems to have been taken during the filming of the MBC drama “Medical Top Team.”

Kwon Sang Woo is currently playing the character of Park Tae Shin in the “Medical Top Team,” a warm-hearted and wild-eyed competent doctor.
