K-dramas On Dvds - Oh For The Love Of Boxsets!

So far, i'm not impressed with any Malaysian or Chinese version of Korean drama for their English sub. Until then, i'm sticking with only the US and Korea based distributor.

Hi GenDaVinci, some of the ones from Korea (especially SBS) are not very impressive as well; considering their prices, we have to do our research before buying them.

Do you remember the brands of the Malaysian/Chinese sets that you bought? I have heard some good comments about sets released by Innoform (Singapore) and PMP (Malaysia). It would be nice if we have a list of authentic brands.

It's so sad to see so many bootlegs being sold everywhere.

Is Bitwin better than YA Entertainment? Is their subtitles that superior and their packaging so gorgeous that is why the prices are so high? If it is I might consider buying from them.

Korean versions are more expensive than US & Asian versions, their packagings/designs are nicer though. Plus, they usually come with special features (mostly unsubbed).

The English subtitles of Bitwin are rated fairly high by members here, but YA Entertainment is possibly the best.

GummiBear, most of the YAE's older DVD sets didn't come with special features. They just started having them not too long ago. =)

I notice that, I was very tempted to buy My Girl which is on sale right now, but I didn't see any special features such as bloopers, BTS or cast interviews etc. So I will probably wait for a version that will have those things. I don't want to buy it without those special features since its not cheap buying these series.

yesasia-i believe this one is for north american countries, canada and usa

while global yesasia is catered for countries outside of NA..

there are stuff in global yesasia that can't be sold in NA and vice versa..

This release is from MBC America, it's manufactured & distributed by KDT America. I read that the English subs are excellent.

According to HKFLIX.net, it has 105 minutes of "Making Of" & KDT (Korea Digital Tech) is a US-based distributor.

Well, kdramafanusa, I don't have mainstream taste and tend to go for the really underrated stuff. :blush: But Noh Hee Kyung is my favorite kdrama writer and I love her work. Here's an extract from my Solitude/Godok review which I posted in the Ryu Seung Beom thread:

If you are not in a hurry, if you enjoy how a story unfolds instead of how it ends, then I recommend Godok. It's very slow and some people may find it too bleak and draggy but I love it... I finished Godok last night and miss it already.

The subs are excellent for this set, btw.

The subs for Magic are pretty good. I posted some screencaps with subs in the Magic thread. There are occasional typos and grammatical errors but nothing major to mar your viewing.

"1% of Anything" was never released with English subtitles. The English subbed version being sold on the market is not original, lots of fans complained about the terrible subtitles. This bootleg version originated from the official release in Japan (Japanese subtitles only); I believe there's an official version for Taiwanese market as well.
