Hwang Jung Min and YoonA have transformed into newspaper reporters in their new drama Hush.

JTBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama Hush confirmed their premiere date and the casting of Hwang Jung Min and YoonA. Hush is an office drama about newspaper reporters and their everyday struggles, problems, and ethical dilemmas. Based on Jeong Jin Young’s novel Silent Warning (literal title), Hush plans to show a more realistic world of journalists.

Hwang Jung Min takes on the role of Han Jun Hyeok, a veteran reporter for a newspaper. He was once a journalist who pursues justice and truth, but now he has zero passion. He conflicts between idealism and pragmatism and faces a turning point in his career with a critical incident.

The actor will return to the small screen after 8 years. Hwang said, “I felt a strong attraction when I saw the script that shows a realistic and unique material.”

YoonA plays Lee Ji Su, a bold intern reporter who isn’t afraid to say what needs to be said, even during a job interview. When she meets Han Jun Hyeok as her mentor, she dreams of becoming a true journalist.

YoonA said, “I’m happy and excited to be able to work with my respected senior Hwang Jung Min. I will work hard so that viewers can sympathize with the process of Ji Su’s growth. Please give us a lot of support.”

Hwang Jung Min and YoonA will constantly bump into each other in the play, stimulating each other’s growth and awakening. They will pleasantly unravel the world of journalists shaken by the boundary of the dilemma between survival and conscience.

Hush will premiere on December 11 at 11 p.m. KST as a follow-up of More Than Friends.

An upcoming TV series is creating excitement as it marks the return to the small screen of actor Hwang Jung-min, who will appear alongside Yoon-a.

"Hush," which will begin airing on cable channel JTBC on Dec. 11, is about newspaper reporters and their everyday struggles and ethical dilemmas.

Hwang plays a veteran journalist, while Yoon-a appears as a bold intern reporter.

It will be Hwang's first TV project in eight years and third overall. Hwang has seldom taken part in TV series during his career spanning almost 30 years. He has numerous film hits under his belt including "Ode to My Father," "Veteran," "The Wailing" and, most recently, "Deliver Us from Evil."

Hwang said he chose the series because he was strongly attracted to the script. "It was so realistic and unique that I couldn't stop reading it," he said.

Yoon-a said, "I'm so happy and excited to be able to work with Hwang, whom I respect."

The director for this drama Choi Kyu Sik commented, “I want this drama to send out serious message and want it to be a warm humane and fun drama for audience”.

Hwan Jung Min plays a role of “Han Joon Hyuk, a reporter who catches more cue sticks than pen. As a veteran actor he played his role smoothly on the reading.

Lim YoonA will be a reported “Lee Ji Soo”, who is a survival intern. She will play a passion and ambitious intern.

While the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards announced the final nominees for the awards, fierce competitions are expected.

 

The upcoming Blue Dragon Film Awards, scheduled to be held on December 11, will present a total of 18 awards.  Today, 15 categories announced the nominations (the rest three are Popularity Award, Best Short Film, and Most viewed Picture) selected through a survey of film industry experts and ordinary moviegoers about Korean films that were released between October 11, 2019, and October 29, 2020.

 

The Man Standing Next was nominated in a total of 10 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay, while Deliver Us From Evil was spotted in 8 different categories.  Moonlit Winter and Kim Ji Young, Born 1982 were each nominated in 7 and 6 categories.

The days when the “10 million viewers” movies were born are now in the past. With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic from February, the number of moviegoers visiting the theater dropped sharply. Let alone the box office hit, movies that surpassed the break-even points are hard to find.

 

Last year, five movies drew 10 million audience, but this year, there is not a single movie that recorded more than 5 million admissions. So far, there are only 8 movies that have surpassed the break-even points. And considering the fact that the pandemic is still ongoing, it’s pretty impressive.

The first movie to break its break-even point was Hitman: Agent Jun, starring Kwon Sang Woo. Its break-even point stood at 2.4 million, which the movie reached on February 17. The second movie to exceed its break-even point was The Man Standing Next. The break-even point was initially estimated at 5 million moviegoers, but the final number stood at 4.75 million. However, it is rumored that the company has actually surpassed the break-even point by earning higher-than-expected in the secondary market. The third film is Honest Candidate, a comedy film starring Ra Mi Ran. The movie attracted a total of 1.52 million moviegoers, and the break-even point was 1.5 million.

As the number of COVID-19 confirmed patients skyrocketed in March, the number of moviegoers was frighteningly decreased, and the fourth movie that surpassed its break-even point came out in summer. #ALIVE, starring Park Shin Hye and Yoo Ah In, originally had the break-even point of 2.2 million admissions, but it fell to 1.96 million after making higher-than-expected sales in the VOD market. The final score for the movie was 1,903,727 viewers.

 

Peninsula, which was released in July, then surpassed the break-even point of 2.5 million.  Initially, the break-even point was estimated to be around 6 million, but it was reduced to 2.5 million after making a great profit in pre-sales. The movie attracted 3.81 million moviegoers. Deliver Us From Evil, which has a break-even point of 3.5 million, was released when the spread of COVID-19 dialed down a bit and recorded 4.35 million admissions in the end. With the R-rated Final Cut version released in October, the movie attracted 35,000 viewers.

 

The low-budget film Voice of Silence, starring Yoo Ah In and Yoo Jae Myung, also surpassed its break-even point. It totaled 400,000 audience, which is higher than the break-even point of 350,000. The most recent film that surpassed its break-even point is Pawn, a movie released in the Chuseok season. On November 9, more than a month after its release, the movie broke its break-even point of 1.7 million.  Since Pawn, Samjin Company English Class and Collectors kept up their pace and attracted more than 1 million viewers. Attention is focusing on whether the two films, which were released during these difficult times, can break their break-even points.

Hwang Jung Min plays In Nam, who is only left with solitude and a sense of loss after being abandoned by his country, while Lee Jung Jae takes on the role of Ray, a ruthless killer. The two’s chemistry completes a desperate and deadly chase heading towards a catastrophe.

Director Yoon Jong Bin’s new project Suriname, which was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has begun its preparations with a goal to start filming next year.

 

According to a media outlet, Suriname is currently working on completing its cast lineup and pre-production stage in order to start shooting in March and April next year.  Suriname is a new project by The Spy Gone North director Yoon Jong Bin. It will be based on the true story of a Korean man who became a drug lord in Suriname, a country in South America.

 

Ha Jung Woo worked with director Yoon in various works, including The Unforgiven, The Moonlight Of Seoul, Nameless Gangster: Rules of Time and KUNDO: Age of the Rampant. Hwang Jung Min worked with Yoon for the film The Spy Gone North.

 

Suriname is a project that CJ ENM participated in planning and is known to have a budget of 40 billion KRW (about 36.2 million USD). It was initially planned as a 10-part series but was finalized as a six-part series and will be released on Netflix.

 

Suriname was originally planned to be filmed in the Dominican Republic at the end of this year, but all scheduled were halted due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. The series eventually disbanded its staff in April and postponed production indefinitely. However, Suriname recently decided to build a set in Korea and film 80% of the series and shoot the rest in Southeast Asia instead of Latin America.

 

Yet, Ha Jung Woo will have to coordinate schedules between Suriname and Kidnapped (literal title), which was also postponed due to the COVID-19. Director Kim Sung Hoon, who will be leading Kidnapped, is currently filming Netflix’s Kingdom: Ashin of the North with his crew.

Song made the display of affection to acknowledge Hwang's return to the small screen for the first time in eight years in JTBC drama “Hush."

Veteran actor Hwang Jung-min will return to the small screen for the first time in eight years as a hardened reporter in JTBC’s human drama “Hush.”

 

Hwang demonstrated why he is one of the most beloved actors in Korea at Thursday‘s online press conference, with his genuine, unfiltered personality and passion for the drama on full display.

 

“I got the script for the first six episodes and read it in no time. It was so enjoyable,” said Hwang. “The story was so real and I thought it was a script that the viewers would empathize with, laughing and crying, if I told it. So I said, ‘I want to do this.’”

 

Accompanying Hwang is Yoona of Girls’ Generation, sporting a new hairstyle for her role as an intern reporter.

 

“When I select a script, I think about what new aspect of me can be shown. The tone of ‘Hush’ and the character was fresh. Upon hearing that actor Hwang Jung-min would be joining, I had no reason to not take the role,” said Yoona.

 

“After only acting with men, I’m so happy just to see an actress,” Hwang joked at the press conference filled with laughter.

 

“Hush” revolves around the real-life challenges reporters face in balancing dignity as a reporter and as the employee of a newspaper company that seeks profit. Hwang plays Han Jun-hyuk, a long-time reporter who spends more time playing pool than writing, while Yoona plays rookie reporter Lee Ji-soo, who believes “rice,” or money, is mightier than the pen.

 

“Rather than delving into cases like previous dramas with reporters have done, we tried to show the normal, everyday life of people for whom reporting is a job. It’s a story that can be enjoyed by everyone and not just people in the press,” said director Choi Gyu-sik.

 

The title reflects Choi’s goal for the drama.

 

“I made the drama in the hopes of it being heartwarming and fun. It can be serious but not just serious and it can be light but not just light. In the title, I tried to reflect the irony of the world pressuring to silence the truth. At the same time, I wanted to send a consoling message of ‘don’t cry’ to the youth living through hardships and a message of comfort to the middle-aged workers who must support their families,” said Choi.

 

Each episode has a separate food-related title. The first episode is titled “Rice,” reflecting the drama‘s depiction of how reporters put bread on the table.

 

The two actors, who are more familiar with being questioned by reporters than being one, also expressed respect for reporters.

 

“One of the hardest things was coming up with the headlines. It was difficult coming up with a poetry-like word that condenses the meaning,” said Hwang. “Also, seeing an event from a third-person perspective and not putting in any of my personal emotion while writing truthful articles seemed challenging.”

 

While she had previously always been the interviewee, Yuna said, playing the role of a reporter allowed her to better understand the interview process. “Before, I was used to just answering the questions. After taking this role, I think and understand more about the preparation and how the interview is made into an article,” said Yoona.

 

The chemistry of the two actors has built up anticipation for the drama series, with the press conference reaching over 16,000 views, a new high number for a JTBC drama press conference.

 

The 16-episode drama series will air Fridays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. on JTBC.

JTBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama Hush aired its first episode yesterday and received rave reviews. Against the backdrop of a newspaper company, the drama realistically and delightfully depicted newspaper reporters and their everyday struggles, problems, and ethical dilemmas.

 

Hwang Jung Min and YoonA’s passionate performances added depth to the story. Hwang Jung Min’s deft portrayal of humane reporter Han Joon Hyun was enchanting and YoonA’s new transformation also caught the attention. Their hard work was followed by netizens’ enthusiastic responses. The first episode recorded 3.4% ratings nationwide and 4.1% in the Seoul metropolitan area (based on Nielsen Korea), signaling a pleasant start.

 

Hush is expected to tell a story that anyone can relate to. The sight of nervous interns who wish to be full-time employees one day and salaried reporters who compromise with the tough reality draws sympathy.

The year 2020 started off strong for Korean cinema with "Parasite" making history by winning four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director and the International Feature Film category.

 

Shortly after the historic moment, however, the Korean movie industry experienced a drastic pandemic-driven decline, with theaters around the country closing indefinitely and studios moving most of their big releases to 2021.

 

Leading multiplex operators raised ticket prices as part of their attempts to survive the pandemic. Highly anticipated big budget films like "Seobok," "Mogadishu" and "Hero" have pushed back their releases to next year. "Space Sweepers," starring Song Joong-ki and Kim Tae-ri, is taking the safe route by premiering on Netflix in 2021.

 

But a slew of good local films still made it onto screens during this exhausting year. Below are the 10 Korean films that caught the eyes of both domestic and international audiences.

 

 

1. The Man Standing Next

A political thriller chronicling the 40-day power struggle among former President Park Chung-hee's top aides before one of them assassinated him in 1979 has been selected as a national contender for the 93rd Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category.

Directed by Woo Min-ho, "The Man Standing Next" unfolds a hidden story of political maneuvering by the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA) in the 1970s, a time of military dictatorship under Park.

Park is one of the most controversial figures in Korean's modern history, suppressing the country's supposed democracy while generating phenomenal economic development.

2. Lucky Chan-sil

 

"Lucky Chan-sil" is director Kim Cho-hee's dedication to "anyone pursuing a dream." The indie film tells the story of a 40-year-old female film producer, who suddenly loses her job and faces the biggest crisis of her life. The film was highly recognized by critics and audiences for its meticulous and realistic depiction of Korea's patriarchal and competitive society from the perspective of a single, unemployed woman in her 40s.

This film won several awards at local film festivals last year, including three honors at the 24th Busan International Film Festival. It also won the audience award at the 45th Seoul Independent Film Festival. It received recognition overseas too, being invited to this year's Far East Film Festival in Italy and Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan. Buoyed by critical acclaim, the film, which originally hit theaters in March, was re-released on Nov. 26. It's also going to hit theaters in Japan in January 2021.

Actor Kang Mal-geum, who plays her first lead role as Chan-sil, won best new actress awards at this year's Baeksang Arts Awards, Buil Awards and Korean Association of Film Critics' Awards.

 

3. Time to Hunt

 

"Time to Hunt" became the first Korean commercial film to skip theaters and go directly to Netflix. The film, originally slated to hit theaters at the end of February, waited two months and faced a legal dispute with its overseas sales company before landing on the U.S. streaming giant.

Set in a dystopian near future where the whole country is suffering from poverty following a financial crisis, "Time to Hunt" follows four young men who map out a plan to escape the hopeless city. But they are chased by a relentless killer amid their struggle for survival.

It was invited to the 70th Berlin International Film Festival's special gala section, which highlights creative film formats on current topics.

 

4. #Alive

 

Zombie thriller "#Alive" became the most streamed film on Netflix in many countries around the world, the first Korean title to achieve the feat.

Just two days after premiering on Netflix on Sept. 8, "#Alive" topped the global chart of Top Movies on Netflix, according to streaming analytics company FlixPatrol. The film ranked No.1 in 35 countries, including the U.S., France, Spain, Sweden, Russia and Australia.

"#Alive," starring Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye, is a story about two survivors trapped in an apartment complex during a zombie apocalypse. Viewers are able to empathize with the characters' predicament, as they too are have experienced varying degrees of lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

5. Peninsula

 

Director Yeon Sang-ho's "Peninsula," a sequel to his zombie blockbuster "Train to Busan," takes the zombie apocalypse to another level. The zombies are much faster and fiercer compared to the original version, according to the director. While the uninfected characters from "Train to Busan" escape from the zombies, the sequel shows how the survivors fight back and some even take advantage of the situation.

Starring Gang Dong-won and Lee Jung-hyun, "Peninsula" tells a tale of survivors on the zombie-packed peninsula four years after the events in "Train to Busan." It follows protagonist Jung-seok, who goes back to the zombie-infested peninsula on a mission. The film was selected for the official lineup of this year's Cannes Film Festival, and was sold to 185 countries, including Japan, Taiwan, France and Italy.

 

6. Deliver Us From Evil

 

This was the first film released since March to sell more than 4 million movie tickets in Korea when it came out in August, temporarily reviving the Korean cinema scene struck by the pandemic.

"Deliver Us From Evil" tells the story of hitman In-nam (Hwang Jung-min), who plans to retire after carrying out one last hit. However, he gets embroiled in unexpected incidents as ruthless villain Ray (Lee Jung-jae) chases after him. In a year without travel, the audience may enjoy the exotic locales as the film was predominantly shot in Thailand and Japan.

Lee was named best actor in the film category at the 2020 Asia Artist Awards for his role as Ray in the hardboiled action film.

 

7. Moving On

 

Director Yoon Dan-bi's "Moving On" is like flipping through an old diary. It reminds the audience of their childhood memories and enables them to empathize with characters in the film. The plot is rather straight and simple. It's about a brother and a sister staying at their grandfather's house over the summer vacation with their father, joined by their aunt. The complex family relationship is shown through the eyes of Ok-ju, the sister.

"Moving On," which was honored with four awards at the 24th Busan International Film Festival, nabbed the Bright Future award at this year's International Film Festival Rotterdam. It also won the Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film at the New York Asian Film Festival, New Talent Award at Hong Kong Asian Awards Festival, Osler Best Feature Film Award at the 24th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, Best Film Award at Torino Film Fest, Special Jury Prize at 35th Mardel Plata International Film Festival and Best Film Award at Nantes Three Continents Film Festival.

 

8. Steel Rain 2: Summit

 

If the hit TV series "Crash Landing On You" is a star-crossed romance between a South Korean heiress and a North Korean army officer, director Yang Woo-suk's "Steel Rain 2: Summit" is about an unlikely bromance between a South Korean president and a North Korean general despite geopolitical challenges.

Although it's a sequel to 2017's "Steel Rain," the plot is completely different. If the first film was a fantasy envisioning the hermit kingdom's collapse through a coup and the outbreak of military conflict between the two Koreas, the follow-up shows an optimistic approach to the situation on the Korean Peninsula, depicting a rare tripartite summit on North Korean soil to officially end the 1950-53 Korean War and clinch a peace treaty.

 

9. Voice of Silence

 

Director Hong Eui-jeong's feature debut "Voice of Silence" is not a typical crime thriller that blends ferocious, bloody action and dark investigations. Rather, the film employs dark humor and mise en scene aplenty in following the story of two peculiar characters.

The story develops as two men, who normally get paid for cleaning up crime scenes, become responsible for taking care of a girl who has been kidnapped by a member of a criminal organization but then dies suddenly. Through the film, Hong raises moral and ethical questions like what determines an action as good or bad/evil. This film was shortlisted as one of five nominees for best film at Blue Dragon Awards. Actor Yoo Ah-in, who plays the role of Tae-in, gives a splendid performance although he has zero lines in the film.

 

10. The Woman Who Ran

 

"The Woman Who Ran" is the latest film by arthouse director Hong Sang-soo, whose works boast extraordinary depth and ambiguity. Hong won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival for this film, winning acclaim for his "Mobius-strip approach to time and memory."

The film revolves around Gam-hee (Kim Min-hee), who meets three friends over three days while her husband is away on a business trip. As she travels alone for the first time in the five years since her marriage, she explores new ways of seeing the world. The director's naturalistic approach and appreciation of small moments, like statically framed long takes on characters and the abrupt zoom of mountains and neighborhoods, shows a natural progression of ideas.

South Korea’s film industry is on course to have shrunk 63.6% by year’s end, according to a Korean Film Council (KOFIC) report on the impact of Covid-19 published today.

 

The government-funded organisation estimates that, firstly, overall box office is on track to have gone down by 73.7% by year’s end, with approximately 60 million admissions for the year accounting for $467.5m (KW510bn).

 

Secondly, digital online sales are estimated to have gone down from $466.9m (KW509.3bn) last year to $333.28m (KW363.5bn) this year.

 

Thirdly, overseas sales of films, locations and services are estimated to have gone from last year’s $78.85m (KW86bn) to $36.1m (KW39.4bn).

 

Box office

 

KOFIC notes that when the country has 5,000 or more confirmed cases of Covid-19 a month, the next month’s admissions drop by 50%. December admissions are estimated to see a 92.7% decrease compared to last December to about 1.64 million admissions.

 

With major theatrical releases postponed and/or cancelled due to the pandemic, independent and arthouse films have been getting more play this year. Compared to the 353 titles that got 415,699 screenings in total last year, this year’s indie and arthouse films numbered fewer at 320 titles but got more play with 514,814 screenings.

 

With a lack of new commercial fare, films such as 1917, #Alive, Tenet and local comedy Oh! My Gran were able to stretch their runs to two months or longer.

 

Re-releases also increased from 95 titles last year to 250 this year. (The average for re-released titles 2016-2019 was 86.75 per year.)

 

All in all, Korean films took 68.6% of box office as of December 7.

 

Digital online

 

Although digital online sales for films are estimated to have gone down, the local OTT market (encompassing TV and other content in addition to films) grew from $581.9m (KW634.5bn) last year to $715.4m (KW780.1bn) this year.

 

Films that opted to skip theatrical releases and go straight to OTT platforms included Berlinale title Time To Hunt, which postponed release and went directly to Netflix in April – controversially cancelling overseas sales deals in the process – and much-anticipated sci-fi film Space Sweepers, for which investor-distributor Merry Christmas had planned a summer release but ended up announcing a deal with Netflix in November.

According to OSEN, Hwang Jung Min recently finished filming the music video for U-Know Yunho’s new song “Thank U.”

 

On Jan 18, Yunho will unveil his second mini-album NOIR and the music video for the title song “Thank U.” “Thank U” will be a memorable song for its dramatic development inspired by action and film noir movies and will be delivering the message of improving myself by using others’ ridicules as my own nourishment.

 

In particular, hitmaker Yoo Young Jin, who has boasted perfect teamwork with Yunho before, took part in writing and composing the song, raising expectations for an even higher quality.

Movie stars cross over to small screen

With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing film production to a standstill and canceling cinematic releases, a growing number of talented movie stars are crossing over to the small screen.

 

These days, premium streaming services are numerous and accessible. More and more TV series are better produced with bigger budgets. Thanks to the popularity of Netflix, there is a whole new platform for actors to bring their talent to.

 

Actor Ha Jung-woo has been confirmed to appear in the Netflix original series "Suriname." This marks the actor's return to television 14 years after the MBC drama series "H.I.T." The crime series will be the television debut of filmmaker Yoon Jong-bin, who has collaborated with Ha in hit films including "Beastie Boys" (2008) and "Kundo: Age of the Rampant" (2014).

 

Based on a true story, it revolves around a man who rose to become a drug lord in Suriname, a former Portuguese colony on the northern coast of South America.

 

Hwang Jung-min, who will also take on the lead role in "Suriname," returned after eight years to the small screen in the JTBC drama series "Hush" that is currently airing.

 

Choi Min-sik, well-known for his role in the 2003 film "Oldboy" and 2014 film "Roaring Currents," is most likely to star in the drama series "Casino" (working title). If the deal is finalized, this would be his first time to be featured in a drama series in 24 years since MBC's "Love and Separation" (1997). "Casino" is written and directed by Kang Yun-sung of the 2017 crime action film "The Outlaws."

 

"The actor is positively reviewing the offer as he's always had a strong desire to participate in a project that tells longer stories which delve deeper into characters and have interesting subject matter and themes," the actor's agency C-Jes Entertainment said in a statement.

 

Cannes-winning actress Jeon Do-yeon will return in the drama series "No Longer Human" (working title) five years after starring in tvN's "Good Wife." Directed by Hur Jin-ho, whose works include "Christmas in August" (1998) and "One Fine Spring Day" (2001), the series will tell the story of a middle-aged ghostwriter who feels lost and empty with her lack of achievements in life.

 

Experts said the occurrence of movie stars flocking to the small screen is largely attributable to a rise in diverse and inclusive content in the TV industry.

 

"Film directors have flocked to the small screen in advance, bringing cinematic elements to TV. Movie stars are following in their footprints. Thanks to the popularity of OTT platforms like Netflix that are able to invest big budgets into original content, veteran actors are now driven by the content itself and are not limited to movies," film critic Youn Sung-eun said.

The 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards, which were postponed last year due to the spread of COVID-19, will be held on Feb. 9, the awards’ organizers said Tuesday.

 

The awards ceremony, one of the most prestigious film events here, was to have been held on Dec. 11 but it was postponed indefinitely due to the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in late 2020.

 

“The Man Standing Next” has been nominated for 10 awards, followed by “Deliver Us from Evil” for eight awards, “Moonlight Winter” for seven awards and “Kim Ji-young, Born in 1982” for six awards.

 

Nominees for the best film are “Sibling’s Summer Night,” “The Man Standing Next,” “Voice of Silence,” “Moonlit Winter” and “Kim Ji-young, Born in 1982.”

 

Directors Yang Woo-seok of “Steel Rain 2: Summit,” Yeon Sang-ho of “Peninsula,” Woo Min-ho of “The Man Standing Next,” Lim Dae-hyung of “Moonlit Winter” and Hong Won-chan of “Deliver Us from Evil” are in the running for the best director prize.

 

Actresses Kim Hee-ae of “Moonlit Winter,” Ra Mi-ran of “Honest Candidate,” Shin Min-a of “Diva,” Jeon Do-yeon of “Beasts Clawing at Straws,” Jung Yu-mi of “Kim Ji-young, Born in 1982” are competing for best actress.

Nominees for the awards were selected based on film critics’ and online votes for Korean films which took place Oct. 11, 2019 to Oct. 29, 2020.
