The ending of The Call — a new South Korean psychological thriller movie that premiered on Netflix on Saturday (November 28) — left many viewers perplexed.

After seeing the movie on Netflix, many viewers took to Twitter to inquire about the meaning of the ending of the movie.

“I just finished The Call on Netflix and I’m inviting anyone who watched the film to talk about that very confusing ending and what do you think really happened?” one viewer tweeted.

Many Twitter users who had seen the Netflix movie responded to the request with various suggestions.

A debate ensued as people offered different explanations of the ending of the movie.

If you are also one of many viewers who were left scratching their heads after seeing the end of The Call, here is what you need to know.

What is The Call about?

The Call tells the story of two women, Seo-yeon (Park Shin-Hye) and Young-sook (Jong-Seo Jun), who live in the same house but during different times, 20 years apart. Their lives and fate become intertwined after they connect through a phone.

Young-sook helps Seo-yeon to undo a tragic accident in the past that led to her father’s death, while Seo-yeon warns Young-sook that she will be murdered by her stepmother.

The plot takes a dark turn when Young-sook later becomes a serial killer.

Young-sook learns that she will be sentenced to life in prison in the future for the murders that she committed. So she tries to force Seo-yeon to help her avoid her fate by threatening to harm her younger self and family.

Seo-yeon refuses to help and Young-Sook murders Seo-yeon’s dad in the past and kidnaps her younger self.

The  Call: Closing scene

The future Seo-yeon connects with her mother in the past. Her mom rescues young Seo-yeon and kills Young-sook by throwing her down from a height.

However, Seo-yeon’s mom also dies in the fall.  In the future, Seo-yeon mourns by her mother’s grave. But viewers were left with questions when her mother appears at the graveside.  Seo-yeon is relieved and happy to see her mother.

The closing scene shows her walking away with her mother, suggesting that her heroic mother didn’t die in the past and that she managed to survive the fall.

Post credits: The ending explained

However, the post-credits suggest that Young-sook also did not die in the fall.

Young-sook’s future self contacts her past self and gives her advice on what to do to prevent her own death.

Young-sook appeared to have fallen to her death when Seo-yeon’s mom threw her over the railings, but in the post-credits we see her open her eyes while lying in a pool of her own blood.

After Young-sook opens her eyes, Seo-yeon’s mom, who was walking with her daughter from the graveyard, suddenly disappears.

So we appear to have a late plot twist where Young-sook is able to save her past self and thus initiates an alternative timeline in which Seo-yeon loses her mother.

Some Twitter viewers suggested that the ending was probably meant to set up a sequel for the film.

The Call is streaming on Netflix.

Park Shin-hye

Actress Park Shin-hye warmly filled the end of the year with good deeds.

As a result of the daily sports coverage on the 4th, Park Shin-hye recently donated 30 million won to the Babsang Community Briquette Bank for the vulnerable. Nowadays, which has been further shrunken by Corona 19, they performed good deeds with the wish for neighbors in need to spend this winter warmly.

Big Shin-hye is a'good icon' representing the entertainment industry. This year alone, her donation amounted to 200 million won. Together with the fans, they donated 50 million won for vulnerable children in Korea, 100 million won for flood victims affected by torrential rain, and 50 million won to prevent the spread of Corona 19.

We have taken exemplary steps before. When they donated 50 million won to families affected by the Sewol ferry in 2014, they participated in the donation without even knowing it, and attracted attention. In 2016, 50 million won for fire-damaged merchants in Seomun Market in Daegu, 50 million won for briquette banks in the same year, and 30 million won for Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association for victims of forest fires in Goseong and Sokcho, Gangwon-do in 2019. They showed warmth, such as donating.

Park Shin-hye, who is currently active as an ambassador for the Hunger Countermeasures, is actively participating in the'Starlight Angel Project', in which fans and their management company Salt Entertainment, and Kia Countermeasures work together, as well as donating proceeds from fan meetings. The entire contribution fee for MBC's Changsha special documentary'Humanmal' was also donated to the elephant protection group Elephant Without Borders.

Meanwhile, Park Shin-hye is meeting with the audience through the movie'Call'.

The Call Ending Explained: Decoding the last scene of Park Shin Hye and Jun Jong Seo starrer film

Enter the Korean details:

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead:

South Korean film The Call released on Netflix today. The international film sees Park Shin Hye and Jun Jong Seo lead the movie. The Lee Chung Hyeon directorial follows the journey of two women, Seo Yeon and Young Sook who are living in different years of the same reality. The women cross paths via a cordless phone. The film puts Seo Yeon's lonely life in the spotlight while viewers play witness to Young Sook's traumatic house arrested life courtesy a Shaman step-mother.

As the movie unfolds, Young Sook undoes the accident that led to the death of Seo Yeon's father. In return, Seo Yeon warns Young Sook of her death by the hands of her mother. When both these past events are undone, hell breaks loose as Young Sook tastes blood and results in becoming a mass murdered. When she learns that she is imprisoned for life after killing two people, she blackmails Seo Yeon into digging out the events that lead to her arrest. When Seo Yeon refuses, she kills her father in the past and kidnaps Seo Yeon's younger version. The climax watches Seo Yeon from the future working with her mother in the past and killing Young Sook, or so we are made to believe.

The last scene of The Call sees Seo Yeon standing mourning her mother's death. However, as she breaks down watching the tombstone, she is visited by her mother, leaving viewers perplexed about the scene. While Seo Yeon walks out of the graveyard happily, it is assumed that Seo Yeon's mother survived the fall. It is possible Seo Yeon managed to save the mother and ended up in the present day to experience that moment with her mother. However, the mid-credit scene breaks open two possibilities.

The mid-credits scene sees Young Sook from the future contacting her past self and warning about the events unfolding. As she explains, she urges Young Sook to hold on to the phone regardless of the final outcome. As we watch Young Sook laying in the pool of her own blood, presumably dead, she opens her eyes to hint at her survival.

The first possibility, in this case, is that Seo Yeon and her mother did manage to make an escape, hence landing up in the present day scenario. The alter possibility is that while Seo Yeon managed to reset the past for a better present, Young Sook from the past hunts Seo Yeon's mother and kills her. That could explain the sudden vanishing of the mother in the scene and Seo Yeon landing up in the attic of the murder house.
