I actually like it so far.

The story started progressing positively, once the partner used her junior as her lawyer and the war is starting between husband and wife.

I wasn't too keen to watch Jang Nara after being disappointed by VIP - her character wasn't so different and also with a cheating husband. Then another show with a cheating husband and she had a mental problem. Now another show with a cheating husband, but I peeked in a while ago and I think I like the SFL.

I was rather disappointed that FL did not lash out at the secretary. At least call her a few choice names, that would make her a  more believable character.

I am going to stay for the SFL. Is she going to get pregnant? That was one very long lunch that ran on to the next morning. She did not have a hangover either. Intriguing.

Good Partner: Episodes 3-4

by quirkycase

Trying divorce cases has a different feel when your own marriage is fraying at the seams. Our ace attorney’s marital issues take center stage as she struggles to take her own advice and remain rational. She may hate relying on others, but she’s coming to realize she might not be able to do it all on her own. And as luck would have it, she’s got a hoobae frenemy who isn’t good at staying on the sidelines while women are wronged.

EPISODES 3-4

I liked the premiere episodes, but this week hooked me. There was a stronger balance of personal and professional, which made it feel a bit less generic and more engaging. We get more existential this week, exploring what marriage truly is. What does it mean to be a spouse and what do you owe each other? What’s your line in the sand? As we see in these episodes, there’s no single answer that satisfies everyone.

We learn a lot more about Eun-kyung’s marriage this week, and it’s clear their troubles have been brewing for years. At this point, she and Ji-sang are barely speaking, and even calling them roommates seems a stretch. He’s the primary parent, and Eun-kyung’s work keeps her so busy he argues she’s barely a part of the family. Things are so bad he’s been asking her for a divorce. Despite their internal relationship issues and the affair, Eun-kyung refuses – how would that look publicly, the renowned divorce lawyer with the perfect life getting a divorce?

While Ji-sang’s affair is inexcusable, his grievances are legitimate. It seems like Eun-kyung has put career before family and hasn’t been a present mother or wife. Her anger at his affair might be impacting her response, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this dynamic of him saying how he feels and her coldly dismissing his concerns is a pattern. (She is allergic to feelings, after all.) Their marriage issues go beyond an affair, and there’s clearly hurt to go around.

Yuri, unsurprisingly, is terrible at keeping a secret, so she lets slip to Eun-ho about Eun-kyung’s cheating husband. Not that it makes much difference; if you cheat at the office, people are bound to see something. Woo-jin has spotted Ji-sang and assistant CHOI SARA (Han Jae-yi) together looking lovey-dovey, and he is tormented over whether to tell Eun-kyung. He tentatively asks if they’ve been having marriage issues, but he doesn’t reveal what he saw. Eun-kyung, stoic as ever, pretends everything is fine.

So we’ve got Eun-kyung who refuses to acknowledge she has emotions, and Yuri who is nothing but emotions. Gotta love those drama opposites. While Eun-kyung has remained cordial with Sara at work for months, Yuri almost explodes when she realizes that not only does Sara (who she treats as a mortal enemy now) live in her building, but she’s chummy with Yuri’s mom.

Yuri can’t imagine what’s holding Eun-kyung back from divorce, but what looks straightforward from the outside can be anything but for those involved. There’s a generational divide with younger women, like Yuri, all for divorce and not letting a man hold you back from your best life. But although the stigma for divorcees has lessened, it’s not gone, particularly for women of older generations. Some women would rather stick out a terrible, even abusive, marriage rather than face the criticism they’d get for divorcing and guilt for not doing their supposed duty.

In one such case, a woman being abused by her husband can’t bring herself to divorce him, even when her daughter begs her. She argues that this full-grown man doesn’t know how to cook for himself and can’t survive without her help. He’s the type of manipulative person who uses self-harm to trap his wife in the marriage, and it works. She’s so beaten down she thinks suffering is her lot in life and accepts it.

Yuri is shaken by the case, but it’s commonplace to Eun-kyung who assures her it’s not her fault. She encourages Yuri to separate her normal self from her lawyer self, something that’s easier said than done. The idea of continuously fighting her conscience at work is too much for Yuri, so she resigns. Before she leaves, she gives Sara’s address to Eun-kyung and reveals Ji-sang practically lives with Sara.

Eun-kyung may act unfazed by the affair, but she can’t help going to see for herself. She watches their domestic bliss from a distance and cries alone. Something in her snaps – even Eun-kyung has a limit. She then makes a surprising move: she files her divorce papers with Yuri and asks her to use her “pathetic sense of justice” to punish her husband. Eun-kyung could represent herself, but she acknowledges that Yuri balances her out since their approaches are completely different. Resignation not accepted. Well, this should be fun.

If Yuri thought her boss inescapable before, it’s worse now that she’s her lawyer. She even gets roped into chauffeuring Eun-kyung’s daughter KIM JAE-HEE (Yoo-na) who is her mother’s daughter what with her attention to detail and no-nonsense manner. From the way Jae-hee vehemently denies being like her mom and insists she resembles her dad, it’s clear who she’s closer to. And that might be a problem for Eun-kyung because Ji-sang is determined to get custody. He may not be able to deny the airtight evidence of his affair that Eun-kyung submits to the court, but he isn’t willing to give up Jae-hee to a mother he sees as negligent.

4 Things We Didn't See Coming In Episodes 3-4 Of "Good Partner"

Jul 26, 2024

Things are getting heated in “Good Partner,” and it’s only episode 4. Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun) was quite literally steps away from quitting Daejeong’s divorce team when she was reluctantly tasked with handling Cha Eun Kyung’s (Jang Nara) sudden divorce case. Eun Kyung’s professional reputation is on the line, the custody of her daughter is at stake, and unexpected allegations against Eun Kyung have been made.

Here are four moments from episodes 3 and 4 that took us by surprise, to say the least. You’ll probably want your popcorn for this.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

1. Cha Eun Kyung files for divorce

An unanswered question from last week was why Eun Kyung hadn’t done anything about her husband’s affair despite knowing for months. Eun Kyung even knows who it is: her secretary, Choi Sa Ra (Han Jae Yi), whom she has to see every day at the office.

Jang-Nara.png

Han-Jae-Yi.png

This week, Eun Kyung explains to Yu Ri that she hasn’t done anything about it because she believes she’d lose more from divorce than she’d lose by staying together. Her home and profession are the most important things to her, and a divorce would put those things in jeopardy. So far, unlike Yu Ri, Eun Kyung has always been rational before emotional, so Eun Kyung’s approach makes sense, but ignoring things is easier said than done.

When Yu Ri tips off Eun Kyung that her husband often stays at Sa Ra’s apartment, Eun Kyung follows her husband and Sa Ra. After seeing the two openly spending their day together as a couple, Eun Kyung breaks down and realizes it’s time to fight.

Eun Kyung rushes back to the office and asks Yu Ri to handle her divorce case, which is another surprise, since the two have pretty different outlooks on divorce.

Little does her husband know that she’s been collecting evidence of his affair all along. It’s her job, after all. It looks like an intense battle is coming and maybe even a little sweet revenge.

2. Eun Kyung’s husband is going to fight for custody

If recent episodes have proven anything, it’s that Eun Kyung’s husband Kim Ji Sang (Ji Seung Hyun) can be shameless. Not only does he keep asking Eun Kyung to end their separation quietly with a settlement, but he also expects to get custody of their daughter Kim Jae Hee (Jeon Yuna).

Of course he’s shameless, adulterers are.
It does not make sense to keep the mistress because she has access to goings on in the office. Dangerous. Most places would choose the adulteress/adulterer or the wife/husband.

She is a hot shot lawyer and when rumours about her and Jung circulated, shouldn’t she tell him to keep his distance?

I don’t think she should get custody of the girl, even if the man is a cheater, or in a bigamous common law marriage.

But I think she should do something to make the mistress suffer. A legal clerk thinks she’s a lawyer. The husband is protected by the daughter, can’t slit his throat.

yeah it's just weird how she is a top divorce lawyer but does not try to consult her junior lawyer.

If she had chosen the rookie lawyer to act for her then she may not want to include others, but dealing with the guy BAU is mind boggling. The mistress is using him as a weapon and she was being caught in a suspicious situation with him by her own lawyer.

It’s as if she does not want to win.

Ji Seung Hyun Dishes On His Role As A Cheating Husband In "Good Partner"

Jul 28, 2024

Ji Seung Hyun has shared his thoughts on his role in the drama “Good Partner”!

Written by an actual divorce attorney, “Good Partner” depicts the humorous struggles of two very different divorce lawyers: Cha Eun Kyung (Jang Nara), a star lawyer for whom divorce is her calling, and Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun), a rookie lawyer who is still new to divorce.

Spoilers

“Good Partner” hit an exciting turning point in its fourth episode. Star lawyer Cha Eun Kyung, who previously ignored her husband Kim Ji Sang’s (Ji Seung Hyun’s) cheating, made a firm decision and declared a fight. Her bold move against Kim Ji Sang, who wanted to settle the matter quietly, set the stage for a dramatic showdown.

Reviews praised the actors for their passionate performances, which intensified the tension and emotional depth of the storyline. Ji Seung Hyun’s portrayal of Kim Ji Sang, Cha Eun Kyung’s initially devoted yet ultimately unfaithful husband, is particularly noted for adding dramatic flair. Kim Ji Sang had dedicated himself to supporting Cha Eun Kyung’s dreams and maintaining their happy family, but the strain in their relationship led him to make a regrettable decision. Ji Seung Hyun described his character, saying, “Ji Sang loved his wife and daughter deeply. He supported his successful wife Eun Kyung and managed the household chores alone, but he grew increasingly exhausted and lonely.”

good-partner-ji-seung-hyun-1.jpg

Previously, Ji Seung Hyun won acclaim for his role as General Yang Kyu in “Korea-Khitan War.” With high expectations for his follow-up role, Ji Seung Hyun acknowledged that playing Kim Ji Sang in “Good Partner” was a challenging departure from his previous character.

Asked about his new role, Ji Seung Hyun said, “I was proud to portray a great hero in ‘Korea-Khitan War.’ I feel apologetic to viewers who were expecting another righteous character, and I was a bit nervous about showing such a different side.” He added, “The emotional range of Kim Ji Sang fascinated me. I took on this role because it allowed me to explore various aspects of one character, from a happy past with his wife to long-standing conflicts, an affair born from repetition and insecurity, and the love and frustration he feels for his daughter that he cannot abandon amidst all the turmoil.”

Ji Seung Hyun, who had extensive discussions with director Kim Ga Ram while developing his character, said, “While each episode explores different aspects of divorce, Ji Sang and Eun Kyung’s story delves deeper into what family and life are.” He continued, “I aimed to capture the broader picture. I didn’t want it to be just about infidelity. I hope the story prompts viewers to reflect on various issues, such as who determines the start and end of conflict and who is right or wrong.”

good-partner-ji-seung-hyun-2.jpg

The chemistry between Ji Seung Hyun and Jang Nara, who portrays the fractures in their complex relationship, is another highlight in the drama. Ji Seung Hyun said, “Filming is enjoyable because Jang Nara is fully immersed in her role. It’s fascinating to see the contrast between ‘the thinker’ Eun Kyung and ‘the feeler’ Ji Sang.” He praised her performance, stating, “The acting chemistry is 10 out of 10,” demonstrating his strong trust in her. He continued, “Eun Kyung and Ji Sang represent the dynamics of ordinary couples. The story amplifies their ‘differences’ and ‘wrongness,’ highlighting the complexities of who is right and who is wrong.”

Regarding his chemistry with Han Jae Yi, who plays Choi Sa Ra, he said, “Choi Sa Ra is a character who experiences more emotional turmoil than Kim Ji Sang. Since both characters are likely to be disliked, a sense of camaraderie developed between Han Jae Yi and me. We even had moments on set where we decided to let go of everything because these two characters bring so much excitement to the drama.” He added, “You can look forward to the intense love and hate between Kim Ji Sang and Choi Sa Ra and the dramatic story that will unfold in the future.”

Good Partner: Episode 5

by quirkycase

The real fight begins for our attorney pair as our indomitable partner’s divorce case, which is making quite a splash already, gets underway. They’ll have to be tough and creative since their opponents show they’re not afraid to fight dirty. And they’ll also have to learn to put aside their differences and work as an effective team if they want to win.

Editor’s note: Good Partner will be preempted due to the Olympics and resume on August 16.

EPISODE 5

Boy do Sara’s claws come out this week. She’s not content to watch from the sidelines and takes a more active role in the proceedings. The counterclaim about Eun-kyung’s supposed affair? Sara’s the mastermind behind that, convincing a skeptical Ji-sang that it’s very likely they’ve been intimate. Even while he seems unsure and knows there’s no evidence beyond rumor, he goes to the press while Sara files the counterclaim.

Yuri is exasperated, and Eun-kyung’s own advice about not taking a client’s word for it about cheating comes to bite her. Determined not to be naïve about this, Yuri questions both Eun-kyung and Woo-jin. She comes away convinced they’re not sleeping together, but also sure that Woo-jin is and always has been in love with Eun-kyung, something the whole office seems to be in agreement about.

Woo-jin, of course, denies his feelings, but his claims that he merely respects Eun-kyung for her fearlessness and determination as she’s worked her way up in a sexist environment isn’t all that convincing. Even while he’s embroiled in this scandal, his only thought is for how he can help Eun-kyung. Yuri gently but firmly lets him know the best he can do is stay away and not fan the flames.

Despite, or maybe because of, Yuri’s bold questioning of her higher-ups, Woo-jin has confidence in her. Eun-kyung, on the other hand, is frustrated by Yuri’s assertiveness. Yuri is taking her responsibility seriously and treating Eun-kyung like any other client, and it’s clear Eun-kyung isn’t used to not being in charge. Suffice it to say, they’re testing each other’s patience.

With the case going public, Yuri’s profile is raised. The misogynist, money-grubbing CEO – who happens to be Woo-jin’s birth father, although to say they aren’t close would be an understatement – now knows her name, and it won’t be long before she’s known outside the firm too.

At home, Jae-hee is sullen and avoids her mom (likely having seen the article about her “office husband”). She’s old enough to know what’s going on, even if her parents have yet to discuss the divorce with her. Ji-sang doesn’t even appear to be living with them anymore.

Meanwhile, a still awkward Yuri and Eun-ho get sent on an assignment deep in the countryside. They’re surprised when their client turns out to have filed a fraudulent claim and has now remarried her husband after he’s cleared his debt. They’d decided on the protective move together and trip over themselves trying to claim the other did nothing wrong. Yuri is moved despite her claims that she’s anti-marriage. While I would love to see a heroine who is truly uninterested in marriage for a change, it seems like she’s more afraid of it going wrong and jaded about love than uninterested in the concept.

Eun-ho, however, shares none of her jadedness. After their one night together, he readily admits that he likes her and wants to date. Yuri, on the other hand, wants it to be a one-time deal and to continue being friends. He looks a little heartbroken, but he respects her decision.

20240801213727_collage-episode-5-Good-Pa3 Moments We're Still Thinking About From Episode 5 Of "Good Partner"

Aug 03, 2024

Her daughter, career, and public image — these are all at stake for divorce attorney Cha Eun Kyung (Jang Nara) now that her impending divorce and husband’s affair have become the hot topic in the news and the center of office gossip. The most recent episode of “Good Partner” brought viewers a sweet confession in the countryside, a secret revealed, and more.

While waiting patiently (well, as much as possible) for the next episode to be released, here are three memorable moments from episode five that we’ll be thinking about in the meantime.

Warning: episode 5 spoilers ahead!

1. Yu Ri finds out Attorney Jung’s secret

Last week, an outrageous counterclaim was made against Eun Kyung’s divorce case. The claim was that she already had an “office husband” before her husband’s affair. This so-called office husband is said to be Attorney Jung Woo Jin (Kim Joon Han). Eun Kyung’s husband actually thought her having an affair was unlikely, but Choi Sa Ra (Han Jae Yi) convinced him that Eun Kyung had a relationship with Attorney Jung way before anything between them started.

Eun Kyung is not surprisingly flabbergasted to hear this accusation and quickly clarifies to her attorney and office frenemy, Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun), that she has never had a romantic relationship with Attorney Jung. But ironically, thanks to Eun Kyung’s advice to always be skeptical when it comes to affairs, Yu Ri isn’t so easily convinced. Walking in on Attorney Jung and Eun Kyung standing oddly close in the office just fuels the flame, even though the misunderstanding is immediately cleared up moments later — Eun Kyung cut her finger, and Attorney Jung was just trying to help.

Attorney Jung goes out for a meal with Yu Ri to clarify his relationship with Eun Kyung, during which he explains his past with Eun Kyung and how he has always admired her throughout his career. He says they are only longtime friends and colleagues, but Yu Ri catches onto something behind his explanation.

Despite being the victim of a false claim and facing scrutiny from the firm’s CEO and others, Attorney Jung has only been worried about Eun Kyung and clearing her name. Even when Eun Kyung apologizes for getting him involved in her case, he says there isn’t a reason to apologize and that he is willing to hold a press conference to clear things up.

Attorney Jung thinks he has cleared things up with Yu Ri until she asks him to keep his love for Eun Kyung hidden during her divorce! He’s taken aback, thinking there has been a misunderstanding in his explanation, but Yu Ri could be onto something. Has she actually figured out his true feelings behind his denial? Even though an office affair may be a false claim, it really does seem like there’s something potentially romantic behind Attorney Jung’s care for Eun Kyung. Either way, Yu Ri requests he keep his distance so he does not affect Eun Kyung’s case. Even though it hurts, it makes sense.
