Wi Ha Joon and Jung Ryeo Won’s upcoming series, “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” (formerly known as “Graduation”), is gearing up for its highly anticipated debut!

Directed by Ahn Pan Seok, known for his successful romance dramas like “Something in the Rain,” “One Spring Night,” and “Secret Love Affair,” this new drama unfolds against the backdrop of Daechi, a neighbourhood synonymous with private education in Korea.

The storyline revolves around an instructor’s unwavering dedication to helping a student, Lee Joon Ho (played by Wi Ha Joon), secure admission to a prestigious university.

In an unexpected twist, Lee Joon Ho returns to the academy as a novice instructor, driven by his enduring affection for his former teacher, Seo Hye Jin (portrayed by Jung Ryeo Won).

Jung Ryeo Won plays Seo Hye Jin, a seasoned lecturer with 14 years of experience characterized by her resilience and aversion to defeat.

Just as she contemplates past regrets, her former student, Lee Joon Ho, resurfaces, bringing unforeseen changes into her life.

Wi Ha Joon portrays Lee Joon Ho, now a rookie instructor whose presence disrupts the routine of his former mentor, Seo Hye Jin.

Despite opposition from Seo Hye Jin, Lee Joon Ho persistently seeks to reconnect with her, foregoing the security of a corporate job to return to the hagwon, where his life took a transformative turn.

After confirming its premiere date on May 11, “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” teases viewers with a captivating first glimpse.

Seo Hye Jin and Lee Joon Ho share intense gazes under a shared umbrella amidst the rain-soaked alleyways of Daechi’s hagwon district.

Once a remarkable success story for Seo Hye Jin, Lee Joon Ho returns after a decade, evoking unfamiliar emotions in his former teacher and setting the stage for an eagerly awaited romance.

The production team promises a romance narrative akin to the gradual saturation of rainwater into parched earth, delivering heart-fluttering excitement for viewers.

Anticipation is high for the captivating synergy between Jung Ryeo Won, Wi Ha Joon, and director Ahn Pan Seok in “Midnight Romance in Hagwon,” scheduled to air every Saturday and Sunday starting May 11.

Jung Ryeo-won and Wie Ha-joon’s Midnight Romance in Hagwon

by tccolb

20240402083812_midnight-romance-in-hagwo

Infuriatingly taking their sweet time with promos, tvN offers us another tantalizing crumb with The Midnight Romance in Hagwon’s first teaser, where love finds Jung Ryeo-won (May It Please the Court) and Wie Ha-joon (Gyeongseong Creature) as the clock strikes twelve.

Taking us to Seoul’s Daechi area, the feeding ground for after-school tutoring academies (a.k.a. hagwons), the romance has Jung Ryeo-won playing star instructor Seo Hye-jin. Resilient and steadfast, our heroine has a solid 14 years of experience in her job and hit the legendary tier ten years back with what’s known as the “Daechi-dong Miracle” in her field.

At the time, Hye-jin had been struggling over her career path, reflecting on past dreams and worrying about her future after teaching. But despite this, she had put her all into helping a troublemaker student at the hagwon and somehow managed to get him accepted into a prestigious college.

Fast forward to the present when said student Lee Jun-ho – played by Wie Ha-joon – suddenly comes back to the academy, now as an adult and the new rookie instructor. Although Jun-ho had secured a cushy job at a large corporation after college, he decides to change course and returns to the hagwon that had served as a dramatic turning point in his youth.

I expect there will be much protesting by various parties before love prevails. But as the short teaser declares in the captions, “A heart-fluttering midnight romance will begin when night falls in Daechi-dong,” and I put my trust in PD Ahn Pan-seok (One Spring Night, Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food) to deliver all the swoony feels.

Together with scripts by Park Kyung-hwa, tvN’s The Midnight Romance in Hagwon will be following Queen of Tears in the weekend slot, premiering on May 11.

Watch: Wi Ha Joon Can't Get Over His First Love Jung Ryeo Won In New "Midnight Romance In Hagwon" Teasers

Apr 05, 2024
by E Cha

tvN has unveiled character teasers for its upcoming drama “Midnight Romance in Hagwon”!

Helmed by director Ahn Pan Seok of the hit drama “Something in the Rain,” “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” is set against the backdrop of Daechi, a neighborhood known as the epicenter of private education in Korea due to its high concentration of hagwons (private educational institutions).

Jung Ryeo Won will star as Seo Hye Jin (Jung Ryeo Won), a hagwon instructor who tirelessly assists a cheeky student named Lee Joon Ho (Wi Ha Joon) in gaining admission to a prestigious university. 10 years later, Lee Joon Ho unexpectedly returns to the hagwon as a rookie instructor after resigning from a promising job at a large company. There, he is reunited with his unrequited first love Seo Hye Jin.

The first character teaser introduces viewers to star instructor Seo Hye Jin, who expresses her love for her job by saying, “Teaching a bright student: it’s more rewarding than you’d think.”

The instructor then complains about her world being shaken up after the arrival of Lee Joon Ho, who has returned to her hagwon as an adult and fellow teacher. “I didn’t have any problems before,” she says, “but after you came, there’s trouble each and every day.”

Lee Joon Ho goes on to confess his feelings for Seo Hye Jin by revealing, “I’ve never forgotten [you],” to which she responds, “I don’t like unpredictable things. Both when it comes to exam questions and when it comes to relationships.” However, Lee Joon Ho seems undeterred, continuing, “I have to say what needs to be said.”

Finally, Seo Hye Jin’s resolve begins to weaken as she asks, “Is there any way to not like Joon Ho? If there is, please tell me.”

Class begins for The Midnight Romance in Hagwon

by solstices

We’ve had late-night photography, and now tvN is gearing up for some heart-fluttering flirtation after sundown. In the upcoming drama The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, an acclaimed tutor finds herself brought together with her former student once again, through a reunion ten years in the making.

Said star tutor is Seo Hye-jin, played by Jung Ryeo-won (May It Please the Court). Hailed as a miracle-maker, language instructor Hye-jin has no less than 14 years of experience under her belt. “Teaching intelligent kids is a lot more rewarding than you’d expect,” she says, and her career path has been smooth until the arrival of one particular student.

Played by Wie Ha-joon (Gyeongseong Creature), Lee Jun-ho is the aforementioned miracle that Hye-jin created. In his younger days, Hye-jin had exerted all her effort to push him up from the bottom of the barrel and onto the path to a good university. Now, a decade later, Jun-ho has returned to express his gratitude to her — and win her heart.

As someone who doesn’t like the unpredictable — whether it be in exams or relationships — Hye-jin finds herself discomfited by the whirlwind that is Jun-ho. With him constantly on her mind, it isn’t long before her heart starts leaning in his direction. “Is it even possible not to like Jun-ho?” Hye-jin wonders. “If there is a way, please tell me.”

Meanwhile, Jun-ho’s absolutely certain of his own feelings. “There’s no way she hasn’t noticed,” he declares, “that Seo Hye-jin is Lee Jun-ho’s first love.” As the chyron says, from the very beginning, it has always been Hye-jin. Tagging along by her side, Jun-ho’s all set to win her over with his mischievous antics and playful teasing — but he’s equally capable of earnest sincerity, too. “I need you, my teacher,” Jun-ho confesses, cupping Hye-jin’s cheek and gazing soulfully at the lady he’s always loved.

Helmed by PD Ahn Pan-seok (One Spring Night) with scripts penned by Park Kyung-hwa, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon will commence its first lesson on May 11.
