mojobobo
I'm just going to do a quick translation of oppa's interview with NEWSPIM. Oppa said that his English improved a lot whilst he was travelling and that the way he speaks in YOF is simply the way any one who loves to travel would speak. He also said that he loves to watch American movies and dramas and likes to imitate the way they speak English. Oppa said that after the first episode of YOF aired, the term "Ryu Jun Yeol English" trended on Naver and he was very surprised. Actually, oppa feels embarrassed because to a person who speaks perfect English, this would be something funny (i.e. oppa's grammatically imperfect English being praised). Oppa also said that the audience were focused on how he was able to speak English with such confidence oerseas and that was why they were applauding him (rather than applauding him for speaking perfect English). Note: This has been translated from Chinese (cr 翻译by 大蓓蓓, 制图by 小猴子) so there may be some inaccuracies but you get the gist of it. PS: Oppa, it's ok, your English is good enough for me (and so good for someone who has not learnt formally!)!!! <3<3<3
aprodithe
Yes his grammatical was not perfect. But he didn't said he's fluent as well. He just being humble to say that his English are good enough to survive is understatement. Some haters love. Say that it was not perfect and they didn't understand blah blah blah. It was funny because for someone who didn't learn English properly and rarely speak English people with different accent easily understand him.

Popular Post snowglobe147
I know this is very late, but the dramabeans recap got posted before I could finish recapping the second half, and I didn't know if I should post this anymore. I decided to post it because it seemed like the dramabeans people speed-recapped and breezed through it without many details (no offense meant to @Howlongwillthisfandomlast, I appreciated your post ). Youth over Flowers- Africa Episode 1 Part 2 (last one): Day 1 Someone asks JH why he was writing things in areas of square measure, and while GP cracks up in the background, he answers that he just wanted to see how big Africa was, and was trying to calculate how much of it they might sight see. In the plane to Johannesburg, South Africa's biggest city (like I said, they were on a very roundabout trip), JY exclaims that they've been on a plane on and off for 10 hours, and this time they even get premium menus. JH tries to ask a cabin lady when they get to eat (lol, ㅋㅋㅋ), but he's not the best at English, so he ends up saying, "When, when can I, we..." Somehow, the stewardess understands his sign language/ hand motions and tells him "After takeoff." He smiled sheepishly at the cameraman and said "I'm always hungry." After takeoff, like the lady said, they get their meals (which actually look decent, but I hate airplane food), and JH and GP stuff their faces like starved people (maybe they were). Later, out of the window you could see Africa, and JH commented that it looked like Mars (I can't disagree). Na PD said that it didn't look like people lived down there. They can't even see an airport nearby. Looking at the camera he's holding, JH puts on his sunglasses and gives it polished/dashing (?) looks. After getting off of the plane, they give each other high fives, take pictures, and give each other more high fives. JY oppa takes a bunch of selfies with the other two. The YoF team shows us stunning pictures of Africa that leave your jaw hanging. Then they show that the F3 found a rent-a-car place at the airport. They decided that the things they had to take care of while still at the airport were currency exchanging, getting data plans for their phones, and renting a car. With his eye-covering-for-sleeping casually still perched on his head, JY asked to change their money into Nairobi-an dollars. They got confused when they found out that they couldn't use Nairobi-an money at Victorian Falls, but understood when the man told them that they had to use their money because technically, it was in a different country. They successfully exchanged their money, and when asked by Na PD,they confirmed that they would be keeping their money separately. Their next mission was to get data plans that would work in the local area, and once again, JY stepped up and asked an employee for assistance. Following the man's recommendation, they got a plan that would give them each one GB a week. JY decided to buy data plans for all three of them, and when told that he should but BG one too, he laughingly said, "He stole my wife and now I have to buy him a data plan?" While they laugh and joke around, the man installed their data plans, which was useful for searching up local maps and such, according to JY. After checking that off of the list, they walked away with smiles on their faces, until JY realized that JH was missing. The camera cut to JH walking around outside alone, admiring the fancy cars parked outside from which they might choose. JH went back inside, telling the others to follow him, that he discovered a pretty neat car. While the other two wandered off to hunt down other potential car candidates, JH kept on circling around his "dream car." JH seemed to like the car so much, the way a little boy longs for a specific toy, that JY told him to take a picture of it because they might not be able to rent it. JH said nah, that someone was already in the car, but he hurriedly posed with it anyway. JY took it for him while pretending to take a selfie. Hurrying back inside in bashful embarrassment, the F3 kept searching for a car to rent. One rent-a-car company's employees gave the passing F3 cheerful thumbs up, which won JY over. Sadly, the F3 couldn't return a car at Victoria Falls from this company, and were redirected somewhere else. They didn't have any success at the next place either. Team leader Junyeolie decided that renting a car from a local city would be best. A taxi for four (including the cameraman) there is N $800, so JY bargains with the taxi driver until he agrees with N $400. In Namibia, the driver sits on the right, (from the inside view) like England and Japan, while in Korea it's the opposite like in most countries, so JH accidentally sits in the driver's seat (ㅋㅋㅋ). In the car, JY starts to sing "In the Jungle," and GP and JH can't resist singing along. Even the driver smiles. They find a rent-a-car place along the road, but it's closed. They arrive at Windhoek, Namibia's capital city, and JY comments that it's a lot like LA here. He says "Most people probably won't picture Africa like this, right?" The second rent-a-car place is also closed, but the driver said he knew "one lady" who would rent them a car. When they admitted that they wanted to leave the car in Zambia, he said "No problem!" He said she could just send someone over to Zambia to get the car back. The driver said they should sing Hakuna Matata, and JY noticed that it fit the situation, and they started singing. In front of the "one lady's" house, the F3 began to imagine what kind of person she must be, hoping she is kind. Then JY notices the super sharp points on top of her high metal fence and they get nervous. Then, that "lady" comes, and JH greets her by doffing his hat with a bow. Then he instructs the three of them to stand with hands placed respectfully in front of them. Their taxi driver explains the situation for them, and JY goes to explain too (while JH tells GP to smile with his teeth showing; wow, he really wants to give this lady a good impression!). After a relay of questions and answers tossed back and forth between JY and the lady, she agrees to borrow him the car. JY realizes that she didn't tell him the price. They drive over to "one lady's" real house, because apparently the place before was somewhere else, and arrive at a place with an even scarier looking fence, ㅋㅋ. They can't enter her property because they're scared of her dog, and rejoice from outside that the car is big. They decide with rock paper scissors to see who has to go in, and JH loses. The dog gives him a sniff-over, and JH salsas away in fear or something. While JH signs the form and GP pets the dog, JY converses with the "one lady" and finds out that it drives with a stick. JY is the only one out of the three who can drive a manual car, so he becomes designated driver. The car is N $1400, and the insurance they have to pay is N $6000 (*gasps*), and when asked, the lady said the insurance fee wouldn't be returned to them. JY said that if this is what they'll have to pay, won't rent it from her. They agree coolly, and after erasing the paper they signed earlier and taking their bags back out of the car, they gloomily head back into the airport. But just after taking two selfies, the mood lightens up, and looking on the bright side, they say that it would probably be more fun to watch on TV. Out of nowhere, JH suddenly says that he wants to eat naengmyun (oh my God, I'm hungry now), and JY says that he heard a North Korean lives here. JH jokingly wonders if he should ask for a bowl, and GP laughs at the absurdity, saying that he doubts there are any ingredients in Africa. JH must have made them hungry too, because they stop to eat lunch. When it comes to anything food related, JH automatically becomes their leader and he finds a restaurant that seems suitable. They all pay separately and at the table they each take back their own change, and GP laughs that it feels like playing Blue Marble, the Korean version of Monopoly. Their food arrives, along with fancy bowls of water with a floating lemon slice to dip their hands in, and they dig in with abandon. Saying that this is a takeout place, GP decides to buy lunch for BG too because he must have had a hard time coming over on his own. He orders another meal and requests to have it packed. As they're waiting for it to get ready, GP gets a call from BG. Trying to talk to him through a terrible connection, BG manages to get through that he missed his plane. The YoF team shows us a flashback where BG, with plenty of time to kill, hat-shops for 30 minutes, and eats his own meal of pasta and pizza for one hour. With only 15 minutes left on the clock, double checking his gate number with a stewardess, BG dashes from his current location of A27 all the way to A0, only to find an emptied space and an apology from another lady telling him that it's too late. In a later interview, he confessed that he misunderstood the gate he had to go to as A30, so missed the plane by his own mistake. Back in Africa, GP asks BG how much longer it would be until he could join them over there, and he replied that he would have to get a new ticket at 4:00 the next morning, and the plane would take off at 6 a.m. His hyungs get all mother hen-y, and tell their maknae dongsaeng to take care, and not wander around outside alone because it's dangerous, and sleep at the airport to save time and effort, and tell him to call them right away if anything happens. Right after he hangs up, the food arrives (lol, the timing!). Waiting outside for the taxi to come pick them up, the F3 check out how they look in the self-camera, and JY straightforwardly says that they all look like a mess. They say that the mood will get brighter when BG, (their little ball of youth, happiness, and sunshine), gets here. The guys set up the camera on them on the street, sitting down on the curb because they're too tired to keep standing around, and the YoF team shows how they always adjust the camera to perfection throughout the whole trip, (ㅋㅋㅋ). Waiting for the taxi, they worry about their money problems, and JY and his brain race against GP and his phone's calculator to figure out how much they spent on food. JY finishes when GP just starts (human>machine, heehee). In the taxi back to the airport (with a new driver), still on their search for a car, GP worries about their money matters again. He decides to collect all of their funds for the necessities, and they can each keep their own money to buy their own personal things like presents. Then they show how the guy who took three minutes to figure out how much they spent on food on his phone evolved throughout the trip to become a human calculator, who kept all of the equations in his head. JY attaches the camera onto a selfie stick or something and sticks it out the window, and comments on the beautiful purple (which in Korean is 보라/Bora) sunset sky. GP starts to sing 보라빛향기 (Violet Fragrance), the theme song of Bora, his love in Reply 1988. Looking at the camera, he says "Bora-yah, looking at the purple sky, I'm reminded of you. Bora-yah! Sung Bora! I love you!" He can't not remind me of Jinjoo's aegyo. JY also says that he misses Deoksun. Suddenly, JH opens the window and opens his mouth "eating up" the sunset. GP laughs and follows suit, though he chokes on the wind, and JH takes the camera from him to show him again how it's done. They discover an animal along the road, a warthog, at which JY adorably calls "Pumba! Pumba!" They marvel over it, saying that he looks just like him. When the driver points out another animal, they immediately move over to the right like magnets to see the horned animal I cannot name. The YoF team shows us an array of other cool creatures they see on their trip, like crocodiles, lions, zebras, flamingos, ostriches, giraffes, and meerkats (am I the only one who's thinking of "The Circle of Life?"). After racking his brain to remember the song Timone and Pumba sings, JY oppa starts to sing "Hakuna Matata" (*squeals internally*). The driver asks him if he knows what "hakuna matata" actually means, and he answers "Don't worry, be happy." The driver tells him that it actually means "It will be okay." Someone repeats "don't worry be happy," and the driver tries to correct him, but they hadn't understood his explanation. They start to sing Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy," and the driver just gives up (sorry, driver, we'll understand for you). They arrive back at the airport they left six hours ago, and Na PD jokingly says "You must have finished your trip and are returning to your country." Back inside, they wander around, worrying if they can find a car before all of the companies close. Miraculously, they find a place they must have missed before that would allow them to borrow a car and return it at another country. They ask if he has a car with a tent attached, and the man tells them that they don't have any of those, and they only have one car left because they hadn't made any previous reservations. They decide to take the car. As the man goes to show it to them, GP run/skips happily, and they all smile widely for no particular reason. They see their new car, and are completely satisfied with its wide, spacious interior, and exclaim that they could all sleep inside it. Back inside, they decide to give it a name. The name would have to, 1) match with its white color, and 2) have a special meaning behind it. Either JH or GP offers up "Baeksulgi" to go with the "white" theme, but they trash it and name their car "Mundongie" instead, in honor of Ssangmundong. They pay the man the money to seal the deal, and Mundongie is officially theirs (at least for a while). The YoF team shows us the various roads and terrain Mundongie drives through in the future. And that's how the episode ends. Should I do this again next time? I'll do it much more faster now that I know people wait for recaps because they don't understand Korean, but I don't know if you guys would prefer my long, meticulous ones to dramabeans's shorter, opinionated ones .

Yes, please continue. I really love your detailed recaps and been waiting patiently until now. I know dramabeans recaps is faster because they present a brief summary in general and I am thankful for that, but as a hardcore fan of Ryu Jun Yeol, some other interesting scenes of RJY were left in their recaps since it would take longer time as most of the highlight is Ryu Jun Yeol part in the episode (And I think some people might protest and accused dramabeans as biased if they wrote too much of RJY part). That's why I love your recaps, eventhough it takes longer time to finish (and sometime I mistook Jaehong initial name 'JH' as Junghwan LOL :D), but overall your recaps have fulfilled my thirst of RJY in Youth Over Flowers episode. Please take your time and don't feel pressured. Thank you so much for your hardworks ^^.
