But then, in this episode, So appears to abide by Soo's wishes about the palace so this reasoning falls flat for me. Of course, how would Jung even begin to know how So feels about Soo's wishes?

I'm just confused about why So was never told about the child when we can see that Soo's wishes would likely have been carried out anyway.

maybe because Jung feared that even with Soo's wish, WS might take the daughter he most cherished now.. they were not in good terms right?  like you said its only the memory Su left, when everything was given (i suppose) to WS..

I think he did the right thing not telling So! I think if So got to know that he and Hs had a daughter right then, when he learnt that Hs died, he would have taken the child to the palace, and Hs didn't want her child to belong to the palace, that is why she left in the first place! Ws had a few years to calm down, and make rational decisions, so when he realised he and Hs had a child, he was able to put the child's need, safety and freedom first! Jung kept his promise to Hs, and he was ready to put his life on the line for it!

Here's the video that includes the excerpt above. Apparently the fans didn't realize that he was watching from the 2nd floor and felt embarrassed about their raw reactions to the finale. He was teasing that he'd tell the rest of the cast about that.

Just watched the drama RAW w/o subs, and woah...the feeling surely hit harder than just reading the recap. I cried when Soo died, cried harder from the moment So found out about the letter till he took her ash away. What can I say about LJG? Hmm I can only say that I'm very grateful to have a chance to witness such high level of acting. Such a nostalgia to remember that he was the only reason I let myself fell for this drama. I have refrained from watching K drama because I knew I would be in the state I'm in now. But LJG is totally different than other K-actors, his charm drew me in from the moment I saw the still pictures of earlier episodes. What really hooked me, funnily, wasn't his look since half of his face was covered with mask, but it was his voice speaking that very first sentence of his character "An adopted member?" On that point I spontaneously fell in love with WS (and LJG) and I couldn't escape anymore; I just fell deeper and deeper.

The ending does feel hanging, but which part of MLSHR that doesn't need audience to analyze? LOL I don't know who to blame, but watching MLSHR always feels like they don't give us enough information, and we have to analyze and conclude ourselves. Same here, we only have JM awakening Soo but no modern So. People said JM is cruel for reminding her to her past, but I think JM did that because Soo NEED to know; she has the right to remember. Also I believe JM wanted Soo to find the modern So (I believe he exists in modern world), that's why Soo needs to be reminded.

i think this is the only ep that even if it doesnt have a sub, i almost understand what's happening.. i do not have any motivation to watch the sub version (actually im fearing i might cry truckloads again..)

i feel like i need to refrain from watching sageuks as of now... because i might compare it to MLSHR...

The straight out insane roller-coaster ride of the past few weeks eventually came to an end and my emotions are still somewhere up in the sky. I know many here are very upset with the ending and I do see where they are coming from. However, having watched the episode with subs now I am not as disappointed anymore. 

Would I have hoped for a tighter script and better editing of the drama? YES.

Would I have hoped for a less confusing collection of episode versions? YES.

Would I have hoped for a steadier schedule without baseball games right when the drama actually took off? Yes.

There where scenes, bits and pieces I definitely wished to have been done differently. However, over all this drama managed to get me hooked and to toy with my emotions and not a lot of dramas manage to do that. 

I loved how the characters weren't just plainly white or black but grey. I liked how it wasn't just rainbows and butterflies along the way but a realistic portrait of how cruel and lonely palace life could be even for a noble. I enjoyed that there were so many entangled stories that I barely had time to rest or get bored.

The scenes of Wang So and Hae Soo were simply too beautiful in every way. This couple is so powerful yet vulnerable that I just couldn't turn away from them - whatever happened. Their chemistry was amazing. 

The ending was like the whole drama a constant up and down so I didn't expect the classic happily ever after. The writers couldn't change the fact that Hae Soo died before Wang So managed to get to her. Instead they gave their love something even more meaningful in return - a legacy. I actually liked this more than the C-Version. Their love was crowned by a little baby girl and as devastated as Wang So was at first, it must have brought some sort of comfort to him when he realized that the spirit of his beloved Hae Soo lived on in their child. Although his lover had left his world, a part of her remained.

When Wang So gave up the right to be the girl's father it showed that he finally understood what led to Hae Soo's decision to leave the palace and knowing her tragic life better than anyone I'm sure from then on he didn't blame her for it. As parents they both wanted the same - for the child to be healthy and free just like they initially wanted to be themselves. They didn't want history to repeat itself. They already witnessed the family war for the throne more than once and wanted to spare their child from the tragedy.
Instead Wang So and Jung reconciled and it sounded like in return Wang So was able to watch his daughter grow up safely from afar, having the chance to meet her every now and then. It sort of also would have been what Hae Soo wished for - she wanted the brothers to treat each other well.

I did like that history changed and Wang So was remembered differently. It showed that Hae Soo did not go through all the hardships for nothing. Despite all that happened she at least managed to achieve something. Her impact on Wang So turned him into a strong and wise king and this ultimately led to a better Goryeo/Korea.   

I have to admit I would have loved to see future Wang So meet present day Hae Soo. But as much as I would have loved to watch this scene I also feel that the last close up of him was enough for me. He did understand that Hae Soo would always be his destiny and that she was out there somewhere. He convinced me that he would find her eventually, because he is Wang So after all. If he cannot do it, who can?

That said I would love to see a second season deep down in my heart. It's because I cannot get enough of this couple. But good second seasons are hard to come by so... I guess I have to say farewell to them eventually.

Although I said that I liked the ending, I'm still bummed So-Soo didn't meet at the end, yes the ending is hinting at them meeting again, especially knowing WS's determination is not something to be taken for granted, but I still wished we would at least have a scene of him in the futur, how come Ji-Mong is the only one who knows everything and gets to travel between the two periods ? That's what I would like to know. A season 2 is far and highly unlikely to happen, if however it does happen, I hope they change both the writer and the director, they've done enough already. For now, I'll be waiting for that unreleased scene LGK was talking about, since he mentioned more things happening, it's bound to be released, right ? Or else SBS will be facing some serious backlash. Give us the scenes SBS, it's the least you can do after taking away the chance for more episodes.

I don't think the director disliked LJG but he liked KHN better and wanted to promote him and the other actors to Hallyu status. LJG  is already a Hallyu star so he was the draw for the drama. Unfortunately he underestimated LJG's popularity hence the re-edited SBS version with more LJG scenes.  If it weren't for all those hidden agendas at the top, MLSHR could have been even better with less flaws and more episodes.  I need a second season in modern times for a happier closure. I feel that the ending is set up for a continuation.

I would only want a second season in modern day if LJK and IU are going to be the leads again. I don't need the other actors back because their stories were finished but yes knowing So, he will find a way to her and I want to see that happen.

Actually I liked the ending. I am not that heartbroken as I was with ep 18 and 19. Give me a second season and I will be the happiest woman alive . If, I say IF there comes a second season I will eat my shoes and celebrateeee. PLEASE LET IT BE PLEASE

this is a minor point, but that face when WS makes when he thinks Jung and HS are having sex is pretty terrible. You do know that you've already been married right? I liked it: how complex his feelings were about her sleeping with his younger brother, but also that he had no leg to stand on because he already married and presumably having sex with Yeon Hwa. I do think WS regards sexuality as different than Hae Su. Because he grew up in a polygamous house, he believes that he can have sex with someone in a "functional" way instead of a "romantic" way. And Yeon Hwa would definitely be in the functional camp. I mean, there's probably going to be other women too--but they will not be Hae Su, who is the only person he's reserved his heart for. Whereas Hae Su has never slept with another man and never will (coz she dead).
