Ji Chang Wook And Nam Ji Hyun Get Up Close And Personal In New “Suspicious Partner” Stills

suspicious-partner-12.jpg

With the first episode of “Suspicious Partner” only a few hours away, SBS has released new stills that will have viewers itching for more.

In the stills, No Ji Wook (Ji Chang Wook) and Eun Bong Hee (Nam Ji Hyun) can be seen displaying an unprecedented amount of skinship, as Eun Bong Hee hovers over No Ji Wook, who is laying on a couch.

No Ji Wook can be seen looking at Eun Bong Hee with a surprised expression on his face while he crosses his hands over his chest, as if he’s trying to protect himself from her. He seems like he’s unable to move because of his shock.

The scene that these stills are from occurs after No Ji Wook takes a drunk Eun Bong Hee back home, which may explain her uncharacteristic behavior. The two stare into each other’s eyes, making viewers wonder what exactly is happening in the photos. Furthermore, in another still, viewers can see No Ji Wook cradling Eun Bong Hee’s neck with his hand, which is heightening curiosity for what will happen next.

Choi Tae Joon Teases An Intense One-Sided Bromance With Ji Chang Wook On “Suspicious Partner”

Choi-Tae-Joon-Ji-Chang-Wook.jpg

SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ” Suspicious Partner” has been receiving a lot of hype and anticipation as of late due to quirky and fun teasers showing off the chemistry between the two leads. The producer of the show gave viewers a quick taste of what to expect from the plot, saying, “This drama is the story of a man and woman who join hands to create change in a world that is filled with judgement. There will be a lot of funny romantic scenes, some suspenseful thrillers, and in the end, a melodramatic ending with the two making sacrifices for each other.”

On May 10, the cast of the upcoming romantic comedy gave more insight into their characters through a press conference. Ji Chang Wook described his character, No Jin Wook, as a perfectionist who likes to see his work through from beginning to end. However, things become complicated after he meets Eun Bong Hee (Nam Ji Hyun). Nam Ji Hyun followed, describing Eun Bong Hee as an energetic and optimistic character who is also excellent at coping in difficult situations. Nara described her character, Cha Yoo Jung, as someone who always needs to say what she wants to say.

Choi Tae Joon’s description of his character ended up being the most hilarious: “My character Ji Eun Hyuk is super relaxed, but has intense thoughts. He keeps on asking No Jin Wook for compromises, and might be more in love with him than Eun Bong Hee is,” he said, foreshadowing an intense bromance between the two male leads.

“Suspicious Partner” premieres on May 10 at 10 p.m. KST.

Are you curious to see the bromance between Ji Chang Wook and Choi Tae Joon?

Suspicious Partner sustains its zany, humorous theme into its official media meet-and-greet. I’m just itching to pluck those white bits off Ji Chang Wook’s suit, though he looks good overall. Nam Ji Hyun wore a summery dress with a bodice that flopped strange at certain angles. Nothing too worrying with the other two leads but I’m heartened that the OTP is all sunny and spirited. They have to work hard if they wanna serve coffee to viewers since their drama would be premiering on SBS along with MBC’s Ruler: Master of the Mask. Both dramas begin their run today.

***In Korea’s chart 15% rating percentage result is “strong” - I'm saying this because the cast of “Suspicious Partner promised to hand out coffee and treats at a location of the viewers’ choice if TV ratings of the drama cross 15 per cent. I hope the drama will do well. I am wishing and hoping that this drama is as good as the hype! I wish all the best for Ji Chang Wook. “Suspicious Partner” seems to have everything I want in my K-drama. Foremost, his first since a long time as his last few dramas/movies have been all action ones. And this does look promising.

***It's fine with me that there isn't any or much action scene in his new drama. I never really thought about him doing action all the time in his project.  I'm glad he got to do a romantic comedy drama this time round.  I'm glad he's doing something different.

Ji Chang Wook Explains Why He’s Perfectly Fine With The Lack Of Action Scenes In “Suspicious Partner”

Ji-Chang-Wook-XPN1.jpg

Ji Chang Wook talked about how much he’s liking his new romantic comedy drama!

On May 10, actors Ji Chang Wook, Nam Ji Hyun, Choi Tae Joon, Kwon Nara, and more attended the press conference for SBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Suspicious Partner.”

During the event, Ji Chang Wook commented, “This drama is a romantic comedy with barely any action scenes, and I’m glad about it. I wanted to try something other than action this time.”

The actor’s previous drama was “The K2,” in which he played a bodyguard and had to complete many action stunts.

Despite the genre of the drama, the actor stated, “There may be fun action scenes to fit the drama’s storyline, but I don’t think there will be major action going on. That’s why I’m feeling much comfortable acting in this one than I did in my previous work.”

Meanwhile, “Suspicious Partner” is about the prosecutor named No Ji Wook (Ji Chang Wook) and the optimistic outsider Eun Bong Hee (Nam Ji Hyun), who experience a strange occurrence together and start falling for each other.

Comedy, Crime, And Romance: Thoughts On “Suspicious Partner” Starring Ji Chang Wook And Nam Ji Hyun

suspicious-partner7.jpg

Ji Chang Wook is back and my heart needs to chill.

I know, I know. We’re all really excited to have Ji Chang Wook back on the small screen and we’re even more excited that it’s a rom-com. “Suspicious Partner” is the new SBS drama starring Ji Chang Wook, Nam Ji Hyun, and Choi Tae Joon. There was a lot of anticipation in finding the female lead after Ji Chang Wook secured his spot as the male lead, but we’re glad Nam Ji Hyun was able to take on the reigns. Keep reading to find out what I thought of the first four episodes of “Suspicious Partner”! (Here’s why it’s four 30-minute episodes and not two 1-hour episodes.)

Spoiler

Storyline

“Suspicious Partner” tells the story of an aspiring prosecutor named Eun Bong Hee, played by Nam Ji Hyun, who by fate meets No Ji Wook (Ji Chang Wook) on a subway. She falsely accuses him of getting handsy with her. Feeling upset about the whole debacle, Ji Wook heads to a restaurant/bar where he unfortunately bumps into her again. Sitting at a nearby table, he overhears Bong Hee arguing with her boyfriend, who is cheating on her. This reminds Ji Wook of his ex-girlfriend that betrayed him, and because he understands and can relate to Bong Hee’s situation, he decides to help her out on a whim and they end up leaving the restaurant/bar together. After sharing a few drinks at a bar, Bong Hee wakes up the next morning in Ji Wook’s house, unable to recall any memories from the night before, which freaks her out and sends her running out of his home without a word. Bong Hee then heads to her new job, where she is surprised to discover that Ji Wook is a prosecutor and actually her mentor and boss.

While working under Ji Wook, Bong Hee sees many different sides of his personality. She discovers that he is not only a cold jerk, but that he has his moments of being sweet and sensitive. On a night when Bong Hee gets to relax at home, a series of events leads to Bong Hee becoming intertwined in a crime. Ji Wook gets involved in the case and the relationship between the two becomes more complicated than ever.

Characters

Ji Chang Wook plays No Ji Wook, a somewhat cold and un-popular prosecutor. He is a bit hard to read in the first few episodes. I think a lot of his character will be developed as the series progresses and we learn more about his past, but for now, he seems misunderstood and is dealing with a lot of baggage. He isn’t the most likable character right now, but us K-drama fans are familiar with this male protagonist. We know he’ll be a jerk at first, but will most likely win our hearts later on.

tumblr_opqhhzyGYH1r0wgtio6_1280.jpg

I really, really, really like Ji Chang Wook the actor. I loved him in “Healer” and I watched “The K2” because he was starring in it, just like I’ll watch this drama, but I can’t say that I’m really drawn to his character. It’s supposed to be a romantic comedy, but I’m not feeling the “rom-com” vibe in the plot and his character. I am obviously hoping this changes. As a huge romantic comedy genre fan, I want to see him succeed and I want to see him in more lovey-dovey roles in the future.

Nam Ji Hyun plays the clumsy and unlucky aspiring prosecutor Eun Bong Hee. She’s not the smartest, but she’s incredibly hard-working and is trying her best to become a prosecutor. She definitely nails the comedic aspect of her character, but I can’t say that I’m seeing the charm. I know that none of this has to do with Nam Ji Hyun, but more to do with her character. It just hasn’t struck a chord with me yet.

ji-chang-wook-choi-tae-joon-xpn-540x488.

As is the case with many dramas lately, everyone was looking forward to seeing the real-life bromance between Ji Chang Wook and Choi Tae Joon on screen. Their scene together doesn’t come until the fourth episode, and although it isn’t exactly the “romance” I was hoping for, it was enough to satisfy my excitement. I’m looking forward to seeing them more in this drama! Maybe even more than the main couple.

Final two cents

I was a bit apprehensive prior to watching this drama, mainly because of the law/crime theme. The first four episodes didn’t really draw me in; although I really wanted to like it, the story lacked in many aspects for me. I didn’t find myself laughing or really caring about anything going on in the plot. Let’s hope for a change in pace! I was also a bit surprised with the serious mystery and crime part of the story. It seems as though this is a running theme in rom-coms these days, juxtaposing light-hearted comedy with a stark contrast of darkness. “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” also did something similar. I’m slightly intrigued, but again, not totally invested. I really hope this drama grows on me.

One thing is for sure, Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun are both great actors, and although I didn’t find them pulling through the “comedy” part of the rom-com, I do appreciate their acting abilities and their chemistry.

All in all, I’m going to watch it until the end, mainly because Ji Chang Wook is one of my favorite actors and I can always count on him to give his all in his roles. This series will also likely be an emotional ride, as this drama is likely his last role before he enlists into the army. Excuse me while I weep.

Hey Soompiers, what do you think of “Suspicious Partner” so far? Let me know in the comments below!

They're decent so far; in the range of 6.5%-8.0%  Could be better but the show is up against some powerhouses.  I'm sure SBS is feeling the heat, since promotions have kicked into extra high gear over the past week.

Come join us spazzing on its official Soompi thread!  Suspicious Partner  :D

And here's a Public Service Announcement:
