On the June 16th episode of MBC's "Splendid Politics", Gae-si (Kim Yeo-jin) attempted to poison Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon-hee) to death. Gae-si incited a physician in the palace. The physician told Jeongmyeong to come to a clinic in the palace. Although Jeongmyeong felt something suspicious was going on, she went to the clinic.

The physician gave a poisoned potion to her. When Jeongmyeong asked what it was, he said "It's to protect man's energy" and then he lied that it was prescribed by the physician in charge of Jeongmyeong.

While Jeongmyeong knew the physician in charge of her was aware she was a woman, she realized what the physician in front of her saying did not match her understanding. She pretended she was finishing the potion. And then she straightforwardly asked him, "Who ordered you to kill me".

Meanwhile, Gwanghae (Cha Seung-won) revealed Jeongmyeong's true identity to Gae-si.

Holy molly... I find the confrontation between Gwanghae and Kang Joo Seon so intense just like the confrontation between Gwanghae and Han Eum. The difference is the Gwanghae-Han Eum confrontation was bitter sweet. You can feel the sadness between the two once a good friend and adviser to the king but now became a stumbling block to the continuance of his monarchic rule, Gwanghae had to have him killed and Han Eum knew it too but he went to confront Gwanghae anyway. With Kang Joo Seon and Gwanghae the anger and enmity was so palpable, I don't know how Kang Joo Seon walked out of the throne room alive. The king was hopping mad I thought he would draw his sword and behead Kang there and then. Kang must have something on the king because he walked out of the palace smugly. Both actors were good.

I just feel sorry for In Woo because it looks like his father just like he threw Gyosan under the executioner's sword or horse's hooves he will also abandon his son.

Waiting for subs to see what happened.

@smp567,  Well it seem as she's thinking smarter now at this point I don't think she could think it was Gw that tried to kill her

BTW thanks for the stills..

@valsava

So basically just like @zenya22 mentioned, Heo Gyun was set up by Kang Joo Seon to take all the blame and Gwanghae knew it all along yet he ordered Heo Gyun executed and let Kang go?

Poor In Woo... His future is not so bright. Either he gets abandoned by his father or gets executed as the family of a treason criminal!

Princess used herself as a bait with the help of Gwanghae, it means she won't mistake her brother as the one who orders her killed, right?  The Queen might not think so she's having a nightmare...

The episodes are turning darker and darker. Only the young girl from the Bureau seems to be able to cheer up the scenes a bit with her romance for Hwa Yi :)

I know their confrontation was intense but woww CS was great ay first i was like again KJS did again he used Gs to get to the king and for the people believe in him and no the king but nooo the king was smarter and turned it around and now he has to be in the kings side well for the moment he will look for a way to betray him and go against him...

woow the princess is doing a good job being smart she knows she has to to get back to palace and recuperate her status as a princess and s happy that JG is back to help her... was so cute when the king noticed the Jo woon has feeling for the princess and he told he wont make him choose between him and the princess. . And more when he said will do anything to protect his sister. ...

Yes im with you  feel sorry for In woo he really has good heart he is righteous. . But i fear that may change no because he will want to but because hes character will be with with the other king Injo side :(

Episode 20

Gwanghaegun explains to Hong Joo Won that since a long time ago, he already knew that Kang Joo Seon had been his adversary, in order to deal a countermeasure towards him, Gwanghaegun decided to choose to make use Heo Gyun as a pawn. Gwanghaegun knew that Heo Gyun had links to the Treason Case of 1613 (Gyechuk Oksa) & he knows that Heo Gyun will have a great animosity towards him (Gwanghaegun) to fall for his bait

Gwanghaegun: For the Princess..it will be also the same for that child

Hong Joo Won: Pardon me, Cheonha (전하), in regards to the Princess matter, what are you going to do about it...there will come a time that we will not be able to conceal the matter any longer, there will be a day that someone will learn of this knowledge of Mama's (마마 - Princess Jeongmyeong) existence

Gwanghaegun: What is your thought on the matter then?...There will come a day that I will definitely be seen as an adversary for the Princess...when that day comes...will you....when you are require to have to make a choice between loyalty & endearment

Hong Joo Won: Cheonha (전하)...what do you mean by saying that

Gwanghaegun smiles & brings out the bracelet to show Hong Joo Won before him

Hong Joo Won: Cheonha (전하)?....Cheonha (전하), how could this thing be in your keeps

Gwanghaegun: You were planning to give this (bracelet) to the child (Princess Jeongmyeong)

Hong Joo won taken aback

Gwanghaegun: Why are you so blush red in your face..it is indeed a correct affirmative

Hong Joo Won: Cheonha...that is....

Gwanghaegun: There is no need for you to feel hesitant...just put this bracelet on the child wrist for her to wear...this I will promise you...for the matter that there will come a moment in time when you have to make a choice between loyalty & endearment...I will remain steadfast until the very end whatever the circumstances...that I will protect my own younger sister...I will promise you that....

Thank you @valsava and @gerrytan8063 for the recaps.
I can understand somehow Gwanghaegun's motives for keeping Kang Joo Seon and executing Heo Gyun.
But what about the Treason Case of 1613?  Was that case the reason Heo Gyun wanted to bring Gwanghaegun down?

Also, the King used Kang's son, In Woo, to suppress him this time, right?  If not for In Woo's opposition to his father, Gwanghaegun might still have a hard time getting Kang's temporary support.

And here comes another promise...

"Gwanghaegun: There is no need for you to feel hesitant...just put this bracelet on the child wrist for her to wear...this I will promise you...for the matter that there will come a moment in time when you have to make a choice between loyalty & foe...I will remain steadfast until the very end...that I will protect my own younger sister...I will promise you that....  "

I don't know if the King can keep his promise this time... He promised Queen Dowager when she handed the throne to him that he would protect both her children... He couldn't answer to then the young Princess' plea to save her little brother...

Wonder what reason In Woo will have against Gwanghaegun to support King In Jo?

@SMP567

Treason Case of 1613 (Gyechuk Oksa, 계축옥사,癸丑獄事) is the incident when Kim Je Nam (Queen Dowager Inmok father) was accused of rally an army in order to usurp Gwanghaegun from the throne in favour of his grandson, Grand Prince Yeongchang.

In history, Heo Gyun was indeed accuse of being involve in the Treason Case of 1613, as I had already mentioned in Heo Gyun brief history.
