[Interview ①] Park Bo Gum “Choi Taek · Lee Yeong are both outwardly soft and inwardly hard, similar to me”

Park Bo Gum has proven his worth and potential as an actor. After his previous project ‘Reply 1988’ (hereinafter R8), expectations were pouring in for his next project, he managed to overcome this burden and show a new look. Park Bo Gum acted in KBS 2TV ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ (hereinafter Moonlight) as Lee Yeong, a charismatic monarch and a 19-year-old playful boy and caused (people’s hearts) to melt. He has a drawn out romance with Hong Sam Nom · Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung), in an uneasy political situation he appropriately encompassed the anguish of a Crown Prince and gained favourable reception. With the ratings exceeding 20%, after ‘Moonlight’ has ended Park Bo Gum’s position has also changed. Park Bo Gum calmly re-collected (details of) ‘Moonlight’ and Lee Yeong.

“I wanted to try a sageuk very much, it was also a chance to put on beautiful hanboks. Also I briefly read the original novel and there were many exciting points that I wanted to appear (in the drama). At the beginning there was the script reading, I had the confidence to move people’s hearts but I also got nervous. Whenever there is interest in my next work, I feel a sense of responsibility and burden. There were times when I was unsure if others liked my acting. When I am unable to grasp the center, the director guides me in getting closer to Lee Yeong. I relied on my outstanding seniors to grasp the center and was able to hold on till the end.”

Park Bo Gum said that he respects the character Lee Yeong, who seems to be weak but tries to get through the crisis with his inner strength.

“Lee Yeong may be young but is mature, he has an innocence fitting of his age. Lee Yeong carried with him responsibility and weight, and life was lonely and bleak for him. When Kim Heon (Chun Ho Jin) and the other ministers became his enemy, he was in a situation where he had to protect his family, and the only people he could trust were his eunuchs. I felt that Lee Yeong who had to endure this weight at the age of 19 was awesome.”

Park Bo Gum elaborately portrayed a free-spirited Lee Yeong who grew into an agonized and conflicted monarch. The situation in which he fell in love with Ra On, the daughter of Hong Kyung Rae who had caused turmoil, was the saddest. He displayed acting which shows Lee Yeong’s concentration despite the difficult circumstances.

“In the early stages, I wanted to show the Crown Prince to be free-spirited, innocent and a delinquent. As it progressed, I wanted to express Lee Yeong as someone who did not expose his heart. When expressing how I was confronted with forces aiming at the throne and a tight battle involving conflicting politics, it required dialogue which was not usually used so it was tough and difficult. I repeated practiced the dialogue, and tried to concentrate on the situation. I am especially thankful to the seniors for helping me to feel other things outside of the script, and for helping me get into Lee Yeong’s emotions.”

Park Bo Gum expressed his satisfaction acting alongside Kim Yoo Jung, who is 6 years younger but is his acting senior. He praised Kim Yoo Jung “From the first meeting she showed Sam Nom to be more than the script”. Also “Her emotions are excellent, she is a friend with a wide field of vision and can point out the parts I unknowingly missed” and conveyed his feelings about acting with Kim Yoo Jung, “Her acting mentality/strength is solid, if she was willing, she had the capacity to move many people”.

“It was awkward at first because we didn’t know how to call each other. After shooting the pit scene I felt that we really became Lee Yeong, and Sam Nom. The atmosphere on set was heart-fluttering. It felt as if Sam Nom really came alive and was acted in a cute and lovely way, I felt those emotions as they were. We joke around a lot on set, we laugh even if we look at each other’s eyes so we had a lot of NGs. It was to the extent that the director told us to stop laughing.”

In ‘R8’, Park Bo Gum acted as professional Baduk player Choi Taek, he is competitive and has overflowing sincerity but is deficient in his everyday life, and with such a look he was a character that stimulated the protective instinct of women. The character Lee Yeong in ‘Moonlight’ who is active in love and Choi Taek’s love methods are somewhat different. Park Bo Gum confessed that he resembled both Choi Taek and Lee Yeong who are opposite from each other.

“The biggest thing that Taek and Lee Yeong have in common is being outwardly soft and inwardly hard. They are gentle on the outside and strong and hard on the inside. This is a side that is most similar to me.”

 

Sigh, this makes me want more. He gives elaborated answers when asked right questions  I hope there will be one or two magazine exclusives.

FAN ACCOUNT OF A FAN SEEING BOGUM AT SEAWORLD (LA)

So!! Nov 2nd, 2016: my aunt and her family was at Universal Studios in LA. my cousins believe they saw park bogum there but didnt take pics.
The next day they went back here to san diego and went to SeaWorld! they said they saw a bunch of black tinted escalades in the parking lot and was extremely suspicious. when my cousins got onto the ride Manta, she immidiately noticed a tall handsome man. it was park bogum.
she immidiately called me up and my aunt waited for me outside the entrance while i had my sister drive me to seaworld.
When we arrived to seaworld, my aunt and i waited at one of the sides of the Manta Rollercoaster. she and i had our eyes set on the people, Since the ride already began. my cousin was THREE carts behind park bogum :)) she screamed out "park bogum" to us and he was shocked. 
They ended up riding the ride 5 times!! bogum seemed to have loved the ride so much. she said that he kept looking at her and smiling/waving. When they got off the ride, we tried to go greet bogum but the staff he was with blocked our phones and told us to move away. Bogum, on the other hand, looked like he was sorry and really wanted to come greet us. he could only wave and smile at us as he walked away. We respectfully gave him privacy and left after this photo since he went in a whole bunch of paths and we ended up losing him.

Director Baek Sang Hoon prefers brown color, such as sunset, wooden stuffs and one more, wind! If something (flag or scarf) is blown by the wind, it’s made by Baek Sang Hoon. (remind you of something? Yes! Descendants of the Sun)

Baek’s specialty is action scene.

So the leading male looks the best and manly in his scenes. Ep6 was mostly made by Baek. (CP is wearing dark clothes mostly in ep6) So the viewers felt very differently in Ep6.

And his angle is unique, it slopes or makes you feel like you’re stealing a glance secretly, such as through the window or half opened door.

[ This scene is a little greenish, yet it has more sandy tones.
It definitely bears mark of the vantage-point kind of scene.]

I also noticed that in many shots, moving flames has been utilized to great effect.

Apparently Lee Joon Gi scheduled his fanmeet in Taipei on 21 January 2017 but now he changed it to 8 January 2017. Didn't want to almost clash with Bogum's ^^

At the very beginning a couple years ago, I started watching K-Showbiz from Lee Seung Gi's Strong Heart and 2 Days 1 Night season 1. For his multi-talented features which I apreciated, I felt so so with his acting.^___^ I was impressed from his dating news between Lee Seung Gi and Yoona Girl Generation and found out that he announced his ideal type with her name for 5 years, even they broke up then. 

In 2016, my favorite celebrity is Park Bo Gum from Reply1988, Moonlight, and his own being. (after watching Song Joong Ki in Dots and Kim Rae Won in Doctors)

Lee Seung Gi is serving as an intelligence soldier in the 13th Brigade under Army Special Warfare Command. He even completed parachute training of jumping from an altitude of 700 meters back in April.
