willenette
18 K-Dramas To Add To Your Summer Watch List Summer is the time to unwind, to head off to new adventures, and also the beginning of new possibilities. As you soak in the summer sun and embrace the warm weather, the best way to cool down is to catch up or revisit your favorite K-dramas. Here are 18 K-dramas, a mix of some golden oldies and a few recent ones, to add to your summer watch list. “Reply 1988” The famous five of Ssangmundong have been best friends forever. On the threshold of adulthood, they live a leisurely existence, looking forward towards what lies ahead. The slacker yet spirited Deok Sun (Hyeri) is the only girl in the gang of five. There is the hardworking model student and conscientious son Sun Woo (Go Kyung Pyo), the stoic and very reserved Jung Hwan (Ryu Jun Yeol), the goofball Dong Ryong (Lee Dong Hwi), and the unassuming and shy genius Go player Choi Taek (Park Bo Gum). This quintet is inseparable and shares an unbreakable bond. Set against the backdrop of the Seoul Olympics and being at the cusp of a new decade, this coming-of-age drama is an ode to those wonder days gone by. Celebrating family ties, friendships, and memories of a simpler time, there are some dramas which retain a timeless appeal, and the “Reply” series remains on top of the list with a high recall value. Start watching “Reply 1988”: Watch Now “Encounter” Cha Soo Hyun (Song Hye Kyo) is the beautiful and very reserved CEO of Dong Hwa Hotel. Her life has not been easy or a happy one. The daughter of a prominent politician, Soo Hyun for the most part of her life has been treated like a viable asset to be pawned and manipulated. She is caught in a tug of war between her overly ambitious mother and calculating mother-in-law and their vested interests. After walking out on her marriage of convenience, Soo Hyun immerses herself in work, building the Dong Hwa Hotel. A work trip to Havana and a chance encounter with a free-spirited man named Kim Jin Hyuk (Park Bo Gum) bring lightness to her uptight life. When Jin Hyuk lands up at her hotel in the PR department, things take a turn for the good and the bad. On one hand, there is this strong pull of attraction between the two, but on the other hand, there’s the constant spotlight on Soo Hyun which she cannot escape. As Jin Hyuk empowers Soo Hyun and gives her the support to break the shackles which bind her, she feels liberated for the first time. Song Hye Kyo charms as the reserved Soo Hyun, giving a restrained performance, and Park Bo Gum has this charismatic appeal as the romantic hero, which comes to the fore. And the chemistry between Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo Gum is simply delightful. willenette
Soompi & Viki Staff Talk: What Is Your Favorite K-Drama With Multiple Seasons? The Soompi & Viki Staff Talk series is back with a new edition about an increasingly popular concept in K-drama world: dramas with multiple seasons! Check out the favorites of some of our staff members: Warning: minor spoilers ahead Natalie: “Reply” Series The “Reply” series, which consists of “Reply 1997,” “Reply 1994,” and “Reply 1988”, has been a long-time fan favorite in the K-Drama world. As the name suggests, the series takes you back to nostalgic times that both those who have experienced it and those who have not can equally love. One fun experience you can enjoy while watching the series is figuring out who will be endgame for the female lead. All three dramas of the series begin in modern day and show the now grown-up characters having a cute reunion, but they keep things just ambiguous and mysterious enough so that the viewer cannot know who ends up with who. Now it’s your job to figure out who the endgame couples will be and distinguish false alarms from true love! This format was such a great hit in Korea when the series first aired, and viewers would have friendly battles about the final husband all the time. There is no particular order in which you have to watch the series, but my personal favorite is “Reply 1988.” The plot really keeps you on your toes on whether Deok Sun (Hyeri) will end up with Jung Hwan (Ryu Jun Yeol) or Taek (Park Bo Gum). Also, Hyeri’s acting in the drama is simply iconic, and she portrays her character so well. Even if you are not familiar with ‘80s and ‘90s South Korea, the “Reply” series is sure to get you hooked. willenette
*** I'm not really into S2, part2s, remakes, sequels because for me, nothing could surpass the original. But, I'm excited hearing this news that "Love In The Moonlight", may soon have the much-awaited season 2. Reports suggest that KBS is seriously considering the plea from fans and an official announcement regarding the renewal of the series is expected in the near future. I remember this drama garnered an impressive average viewership rating of 16.9 percent. So, the sequel has the potential to captivate audiences once again and cement its place as a beloved historical drama. It has an immense popularity, so, not surprising if supporters of the show have been clamoring for its continuation, and it seems their voices have not gone unheard. Wait & see.............
