She is as remarkable as her gorgeous appearance. It is the radiant GHS (24 years old). On June16th, I met her at the Seoul Kangnamgoo Nohyundong. She was working intensely on the latter half of her project in the editing room.

Although an actress, GHS is planning to debut as a director with her short film tentatively titled, The Gaze. (We all know the title became Cheerful Caretaker.) On the 17th, she will also appear as the female star in KBS 2TV’s new Mon&Tue miniseries, Strongest Chilwoo (script by Bak Woon Chul, director Park Man Young).

She is and has been so busy that it is regrettable that she is just one person. This past March (2008), she drew a ball pen illustration for Gummy’s 4th album jacket for which she made big news. The inside-out beautiful GHS talks straight about being an actor, director and about love.

At the beginning of 2008, she finished her role as the malicious yet tremendously charismatic, former Queen Yoon in SBS’ historical drama, King and I. Her role won her recognition for her acting ability. Acting for 6 months in King and I was stressful and over the top for her. She claims to have experienced some loss of hair due to the constant pulling by the heavy head-dress and yet she still chose to do another historical drama, Strongest Chilwoo.

On top of that, her character is not even highlighted until the episode 7. However, her decision to take the role for Strongest Chilwoo is very clear. It is her unquestioning belief in the PD Park Man Young.

PD Park is the first director ever to plant a deep confidence in myself:

Not only did he help her find trust in herself but she also developed a faithful trust in PD Park. After her acting in MBC’s NN5, SBS’ Suh Dong Yo, KBS ITV’s daily drama Pure Heart of 19, SBS’ King and I, GHS is walking the royal road as an actress. GHS says that most of her own character traits have come forward through these few projects. I am truly a lucky kid. To be cast in the lead roles when I am not even a verified actress, I feel very lucky, especially for the Pure Heart of 19. Also, all the performances have received great reviews that I am very happy. (haha)

As she walks the road of acting, she claims that she still has a long way to go. I cannot go as high as the viewers’ expectations. I just have to go at my own speed. For instance, if I am too attached to materialism or to the viewers’ high expectations, my life will no longer be my own. I feel it is more important to not lose sight of my own convictions and to proceed at my own pace. (The way GHS thinks is the reason that late Rep.Jung Seung Hae considered her to have the wisdom of a 100 year-old in the body of a young woman.)

5 years ago (2003), when she went toYG Entertainment, GHS had a dream of becoming a singer. She, nor her family or her friends, ever considered acting as a possibility for GHS; she has always been intensely working on her art and her music. When YG’s Yang Hyun Suk proposed her to go into acting, she never expected it. When he suggested, without hesitation, that I go into acting, I thought he was telling me to leave the agency. (haha). Last year (2007), GHS re-contracted with YG. If both of us are too attached to making money, YG and I would not have such a long relationship. My relationship with President Yang is not about a talent agency’s representative and an actress. We basically coexist inside an agency~ it is a live-and-let-live kind of a relationship.

President Yang’s strong support gave GHS much help that she needed to make a debut as a director. The reason is that President Yang rarely ever says NO. GHS majored in directing at the Seoul Art College. Her short film is about the psychology of human mind around the issues of mercy killing and the metaphysical philosophy about God. People’s thoughts about God become more complicated and difficult as they delve into it deeper. Yet GHS wanted to tell the story in an interesting and easier way. When she talked about movies, GHS’s eyes sparked more brightly.

Some say GHS is 4-D: she walks alone, she eats alone and she watches movies alone. She even travels alone. If I am not similar to another person, that person may call me 4-D. However, just because I am different from the other person, does not make me a 4-D. Each person has different personality and different thoughts. Because I enjoy being alone, perhaps, people started to look at me as 4-D. When I am alone, I can be as free as I want to be. Being alone in my own space and time, I am truly happy and free.

Recently, GHS is giving herself even more freedom: she chose to ride a bike over taking the automobile; she walks around for 1~2 hours at a time; she gave up high heels for comfortable sneakers. She says this means that she does not have a boyfriend. (Does this mean that we the fans can tell when she has a boyfriend or not by the way she dresses? haha)

At this time, I am very happy. I now understand when people say that they feel happy when working. When I was in love, I thought everything was about LOVE. It was my first love. During my work at King and I, mind and body must have been stressed. (Perhaps GHS is talking about her ex-boyfriend's mind and body?) If my ideal mate is someone with good manners and who is personable, I now wish to meet someone who can be my friend forever with respect for each other. Love has no loyalty or duty. (I wonder if she sounded bitter still here or if she sounded accepting? But her belief in LOVE seems to have greatly changed. ) In the past, if people would ask me if I have a boyfriend, I have lied twice because I was too young. (haha). Even if I want to date, I really have no one to date.

She may appear gentle and thin on the outside but she is strong and sturdy on the inside. GHS is not a person to judge just by her pretty face and small height.

sue, thanks for sharing with us the old article i am also interested with the older news & articles about Hye Sun before BOF happened since i have no idea of her life then..with this one, i am better informed of her chain of shows from the start of her career..she`s truly a very lucky actress to be entrusted with those kinds of role.. got to know also her activities then during free time but one thing i notice that somehow changed..way back she said she gave up high heels for comfortable sneakers but we see that it`s the other way that she prefers these days though we expect for some changes as she discovers her other side as an actress & as a woman

i like her line that says "If both of us are too attached to making money, YG and I would not have such a long relationship"..i recall her lines in her May `09 Cosmo interview regarding doing individual CFs where she said that "I am sure I could have earned lots of money. But I also was determined not to make poor choices for the sake of money." what a wise & matured way of thinking isn`t it??..

but these lines impress me more :

A 'weed'-girl who popped out of the historical past:

(summary) BOF is her only 6th project so far. One of them was a sit-com and three of them were all historical dramas.

GHS says that only historical drama roles came to her. She thinks it is because of her round and round face? So, BOF is her first attempt at a trendy drama. Through historical dramas, GHS highly praises her sunbaes from whom she learned a great deal. That is why she feels that she is more ready to tackle the trendy drama now. She did not know much about BOF or its manga. But she was highly recommended as the top candidate by the netizens due to her appearance that so resembles manga characters. She worried that, by doing a trendy drama, she will basically ruin the peaceful image that she built through historical dramas. But she decided on BOF because she felt that this may be her one and only chance to play such a role.

Regarding BOF filming~GHS feels as if she is back in the set of NN5 because she is having so much fun. She also loves that she can wear uniform again. She likes it so much that she is going to ask if she can keep it after the drama ends as it may be her last uniform ever. She has filmed just over 10 days with the F4 and has already become fairly close. They are so friendly and such good people. I don't normally approach people so easily that I am grateful to them. However, I really don't like to be called as noona so loudly in front of so many people. I was shocked to find out that Minho is three yeras younger than I am.

Admiration and love are different:

Her role as Geum JanDi is a brave teenager who does not lose to the F4. GJD's dignified and tough image also bring up the image of Gookhwa of Pure Heart of 19. GHS: GJD is basically similar to Gookhwa, however, there is a difference. Gookhwa tormented herself a lot. She saw herself as less than some people and therefore gave up on her desires most of the time. However, Jandi is not like that at all. Jandi says to herself, why not me! She has relentless confidence in herself. She is also a very lucky girl who receives love from two very attractive men who are complete opposites of each other. Jandi falls in love eventually after she fights a lot with the man who loves her. For me, I have to like the person first before I fall in love. That is the difference between Jandi and me. In BOF, I think that Jandi most likely admired JiHoo while she loved JoonPyo. I think JiHoo is a man that Jandi cared for and wanted to protect forever but not wanted for herself. On the other hand, JoonPyo is a man who not only needed and wanted Jandi but also held manly attractiveness for Jandi. Perhaps Jandi understood that difference?! The way GHS explains her character with such fervor almost make you sense the weed-like toughness in her.

the term 4 d as lei and I wondered meaning, to surprise mia, and read it made me laugh, naturally all genius that she wants to be alone, talented people need ample space for themselves, make them feel that seek to achieve success and to want to be single tell 4 d.

I am happy to have known mu so simple person, struggling for their individuality and their character and that need not change too, just for being a Korean star.

thanks for those cute pics from the manga.. i remember in an article I read before, that even yoko kamio was impressed on how the cast of BOF very much resemble those in the original manga. Group 8 really did a goob job in selecting the cast.. =)

been wanting to watch pure heart of 19.. though it's now being aired here, it conflicts with my sched.. i already read the synopsis and it looks like she plays another tough cookie there.. i hope she considers doing another trendy drama..
