July week 3

Buzz's "남자를 몰라" (Don't know a man's heart) surprised us once again by re-taking the No. 1 spot this week. This song was No. 1 in June week 3, before Shinhwa's "Once in a Lifetime" took over for the last 3 weeks. This week we all expect Superjunior's "U" to be the new No. 1 song. However, Buzz edged SJ by 8 points, proves once again that you never know what will happen till the end.

See Ya's new song "구두" (Slipper) from their debut album moves into the top 5 this week. All their 3 singles made it to top 10. They are definitely the favorite to win the new artist of this year, and perhaps even top 10 artists. Also, Jung Jae Wook scores his first top 10 song "들리나요" (Can you hear?) by moving up 8 spots to No. 9.

We have 5 new songs this week, leading by SG Wannabe's new song "사랑했어요" (I Love You), featuring Danny Ahn of G.O.D., at No. 11. Danny is not the only G.O.D. member on the chart this week. At No. 19, also a new song by Suho "봄여름가을겨을" (Spring Summer Fall Winter). This song features G.O.D.'s Kim Tae Woo. If you like MC Mong's "I Love U, Oh Thank U" last year, there is a good chance that you will like this song too. It's another hip hop + ballad that sounds very smooth together.

Other new entrants this week include a digital single "I Go" by modern rock group Rumble Fish, at No. 12. They had a big hit last year "으라차차", let see if this song can duplicate the success. Another modern rock group Loveholic also have a new song "고대만 있다면" (Just With You) at No. 15, but this is a pop ballad. This song appears in both Loveholic's 3rd album and the OST of MBC drama "One Fine Day". It's popularity is due more to the drama. It is also more of lead singer Ji Sun's solo effort, as we saw only her performing the song minus the 2 male members.

The last new song is Gummy's "혼자만하는사랑" (One sided love). This song replaces her previous hit "그대 돌아오면" (When you return) which was still in the top 10 last week, but fell out of the chart this week.

ARTIST OF THE WEEK - Jung Jae Wook

Our featured artist this week is Jung Jae Wook. He scored his first ever top 10 hit this week with his latest song "들리나요" (Can you hear?). This song is written by one of the hottest song writing teams - Cho Young Soo and Ahn Young Min, who wrote hit songs for SG Wannabe, See Ya, SS501 among others this year.

Jung Jae Wook already caught my attention back in early 2002 with an emotional ballad "잘가요" (Farewell) from his 2nd album. In this album, he also remade "Season In The Sun", a classic Japanese hit song by TUBE. Both songs received good reviews but did not rank very high on the music charts. He has to wait another 4 years (and 2 albums) to finally be recognized by the public. Let's find out more about him:

BIOGRAPHY

Jung Jae-wook made his debut in 1999 with a song titled "A Foolish Seperation." By using the Gayageum, a Korean traditional string instrument, in the prelude and the Daegeum, a Korean bamboo flute in the background, Jung adopted Korean traditional sounds in his music. Jung’s original song, "To Your Next Love," became more widely known after singer Jo Sung-mo remade and re-released it. Jung Jae-wook released his second album, "A Simple Story," in 2001. The album was filled with songs that clearly showed Jeong’s musicality and vocal power. After 2 years of preparation, Jung’s 3rd album was released in 2003. Jung also hosted a radio show for 2 years and recently made his comeback to the local pop music scene with his 4th album. The title song of Jung’s 4th album is "Can You Hear?" a medium-tempo piece with quite strong beats.

The group ‘Turtles’ is coming back to refresh everyone’s brains that have been going under pressure. Songs like ‘Bingo’, ‘What’s Wrong?’, ‘Four Season’, ‘How Long?’, ‘Come On’…and so forth have topped the charts due to their great songs with enjoyable melody to listen to. They are making a comeback after a year of absence. They debuted in 2001 and they were well known for being a group that has never lip-synched in any of their performances. Last year in March, they had to stop all their activities because of a Turtle member's illness (Acute myocardial infarction). Could it have been because he had to deal with two death crisis? He is more mature and everyone can feel his strong passion for music. Their fourth album will bring joy as well as a great sensation. This group even brings crying babies into laughter with their music. ‘Exciting world, live a joyous life with the turtles~!’ is their theme for this album. Their title song is track 3 called ‘Airplane’ which is an upbeat dance song. They used a ‘Hawaiian baby guitar’ to produce an exotic sound with a cute rhythm that will have their fans putting their songs on repeat. This song portrays the exhausted life they have experienced in their lifetime and how they think about their past when they were kids.
