@joowonised

I watched "Witch Hunt" with Chinese subtitles and it's mind boggling! If I am the one translating it in full, it will take me a long long time. Even though I understand the subtitles, I still cannot comprehend what's going on.

I have read or seen countless times Joo Won in shows or interviews, he still never fails to surprise me with his candidness. Sometimes, I want to scream "Don't say that!" because I was scared they would pounce on what he said or the media would present it in a wrong way. It is very apparent in this show "Witch Hunt". Notwithstanding the context of the show and how the MCs are, Joo Won was...............still Joo Won. I may be wrong and need to wait for translation to fully understand what's going. I think we need some insights on what the show is about and also the backgrounds and personalities of each MC. Hopefully sdee and maybe @simplydramafied1082 can shed some light. But the overall impression I got was that Joo Won was this incorruptible guy who "frustrated" and "shocked" the MCs with his innocence and conservatism. His honesty and lack of guile makes him a butt of jokes and jabs.

I have always wondered and thought about this and somehow, I get this feeling. Joo Won is an intelligent guy so he has got to know how these things work. He is the way he is not because he never gives it any thought or is careless about it, but rather he chooses to present his real thoughts, opinions and self in front of the camera. Except for those questions where it involves another party like the perennial question - Who is your favorite co-star A or B? Joo Won speaks frankly in almost everything else, it's like he chooses to be this "unadulterated" person - what you see is what you get. Instead of putting it down to being foolhardy, I applaud him for the courage because it's so rare in this industry. Some will present an image which is manufactured or unlike their true selves, many will rarely open their hearts or avoid such media. Increasingly, I see Joo Won as someone knows what he has to do in this industry, the unwritten rules and such. Yet at the same time, he is adamant of not changing and being true to himself.

Yes, I watched chinese sub "Witch Hunt" too yesterday night but I am not fully understand some part...  is my first time watching this program. :(
I really like Cutie personality in the show, he is so innocence and honest when he spoke out some words it made all of them laughing
The show itself is 19 rated and some content inside the program seem like have a different meaning @_@
I think you may need to watch a few episodes in order to understand the whole program content and MCs words.

Regarding Witch Hunt, the show is rated but when I spoke of Joo Won being innocent and all, I don't mean he was innocent in matters regarding sex or sexuality and such. His innocence is more encompassing than just that. It's rather hard to explain because it's not only in what he says but how he says things, the way he looks when he says them.

@mrdimples his innocence is one of the reasons that attracted me to him. Sure, i love him in Bridal Mask, but i love Kang To then. Once i'm done watching most of the drama, i came across Win Win interview, and i fell in love with his honesty and views on love. He is really pure and to quote you, 'unadulterated'. I have never met any idols or actor around his age who has these pure mindset. I completely agree with you that what we see is what we get with Joowon. He doesnt put on an act for the camera or tries to say things to please people or the situation. If he likes his co-star, he will say that he likes her. Sure, he may play along when need be (choosing co-stars) but he's just so honest.

I noticed that he mentioned during Best Couple award that he will not ask ChaeWon out. This seems to surprise ChaeWon although she obviously know Joowon will not ask her out and vice versa. Even the MCs asked them whether they dislike each other due to Joowon's answer. Most actors/idols will say "i do have feelings for her and we will see how things go" or something. But Joowon point blank says no. I dont know why, but i love him for being honest like this. :)

In the Catch Me press conference too, Joowon showed his honesty. During the Truth or Dare game he said that he will choose career over love despite knowing most woman will want to be chosen over career. But Joowon being Joowon, he said what is in his mind. I think Park Kyung Rim later said Joowon is a 'bad' man. LOL! But when i see that part, i am reminded that Joowon must have learned about marriage and love by watching his 1n2d hyungs. They are married, yet are still successful with their career.

@mrdimples Finally took a break from the hectic work :D
With regard to the MC's background on Witch Hunt, I am only aware on Shin Dong Yup, Sung Shi Kyung and Sam Hammington. The other MC I am really note sure of his name and I think he is an indie singer.
Shin Dong Yup is known for being an MC of "R" rated material and he is known for R-jokes on SNL Korea that airs on TVN. But that doesn't mean he doesn't host shows on the "big 3" stations. He is a man loved for his witty jokes and "choice of words" based on the situation. He comes across as quirky but he can take control of a show and knows how to engage the guests in talks.
Sung Shi Kyung, I think (solely my opinion) was primarily chosen as a host on this show since he is one of those few K-pop singers who has plenty of dating experience with other celebrities (but till now no one can name them correctly) and at the same time, women simply love him! That is why he is known as the "Ballad King". And based on his experience with women and RJing on radio shows he knows how to make the person comfortable at the same time ask questions which might not be commonly asked on other shows (well, he has a voice to die for 8-} )
Since it is the men's take on women and for an outsider's perspective Sam Hammington was taken as the other MC ( he was dating his Korean girlfriend that time whom he later got married to).
Another thing we need to take into account is, in other communities to talk about personal stuff (like salary, personal hygiene, girl/guy interpersonal problems) might seem too off topic as it is not others matters. But Koreans look at it differently. These kind of things are common day topics to them and they would love to talk about them. I think we have seen plenty of dramas where people after work end up getting drunk and going to the karaoke places. Well it does happen in Korea on a regular basis. Drinking is considered as a means of socialising between people of different ages and also a way to get to know people of the opposite sex. Sometimes in the program, they quote instances of getting to know a man or a woman when they go drinking and get mixed responses as they are not sure whether to get intimate or date that person.

From what I understood on watching this program, this show has got a huge response from viewers and celebrities alike as it talks about a lot of things openly. And men and women approach it to solve their "social life"problems. I am not sure whether "stigma" can be used but in the Korean society if a man or woman doesn't get married quickly or they are not dating they are considered to have something wrong with them / strange (essanghe). And it adds pressure especially to those men who return from the army. They have to start things from scratch - get an education, get a job, look after the family and most of all settle down with a girl they like.
I am still hoping for a correct translation since the words in Hangul can have different meanings based on the situation and how they are pronounced.
I think Joo Won has a totally different take on romance. Simply put, more than raging hormones if you could love the person for who they are and become best friends that in itself shows your true love for him / her.So I can totally understand why he values "friendship" more than "dating". That is also another way to show your love for someone.
I hope my post doesn't confuse those who are reading it 8-|
