The scene of acting is always a series of tension. Although the time I've been acting isn't that short, I can't and shouldn't let go of the tension on the set. However, if there is something different about this movie <The Negotiation> from the acting I have done in other works, it is the job of the main character. If my memory is correct, I think it's probably the first time I've played a public official (police). When I decided to participate in the project, there were people around me who were worried.

 

Many audiences who remember me have mainly expectations for acting as the female lead in romance or melodrama, but the movie <The Negotiation> has no such element at all. Even the main character of the negotiation, 'Chae-yoon Ha', is a role that performs a special mission (specializing in crime negotiation) among the police, so I couldn't really get a sense of her character. If she acted wrong, it would only be a clumsy imitation, and I thought it would be uncomfortable for the audience to see. 

 

 

So how did you solve the problem 

I studied the character Ha Chae-yoon while watching the screenplay. I don't think there is any other way than that. She also referenced the gestures and facial expressions of female police officers in TV and other movies, and expressed the same scene in different ways and tones to find her own answers. Without overdoing it, she looked for ways to bring out the character's personality. Of course, I can't guarantee that the expressions were perfect, but she worked really hard until she thought she was not ashamed to show it to the audience. Even so, a few days before the press preview, I suddenly got caught up in the thought of, 'What if I came out too unsuitable?' It will be up to the audience to decide. I wonder if my earnest efforts will be delivered well. 

 

There is an evaluation that Son Ye-jin has an eye for choosing the work that best suits her. Do you agree here? If she agrees, she has her own secrets. 

Yes I agree (laughs). hahaha that's a joke Well... I don't think I have any special eye to choose good works. Luckily, I think there are people who say that because I have appeared in good works. Of course, there are some criteria for choosing a scenario. First of all, I have to feel that I am having fun. Still, when I say that I see actress Son Ye-jin's acting from the audience's point of view, I try to choose a role that seems to have less awkwardness if possible. That's why I think I've played a lot of female protagonists who are mostly sick or living with sadness. However, I think the scope of my acting may be narrow, so I appear in the movies <The Standard of Work>, <My Wife Got Married> or <The Pirates: The Bandit Who Goes to the Sea>, in which the protagonist plays a character who is slightly different from the roles he has played so far. I also did Acting in your 20s was a little narrow, but it seems to be expanding as you get older and get older. 

 

If you have your own way to immerse yourself in the character of the work,

It's constant research. Is this a bit of a boring answer? That's really how I am... (Laughs) First, I read the script very carefully and again and again. So, we analyze the character's personality and choose a way to immerse ourselves in it. For example, if I play the sad heroine Lee Deok-hye in <Princess Deok-hye>, I push myself very hard and make me depressed as much as possible. If you play a bright protagonist like <The Standard of Work> or <My Wife Got Married>, you create a situation where you can express your personality as best as possible. This is really easy to say, but it always seems difficult every time I do it. 

The main characters of <Myeongdang> (Cho Seung-woo) and <Ansi-seong> (Jo In-seong), which must compete at the time of the release of <Negotiation>, coincidentally are the lead actors who appeared together in the movie <Classic> 15 years ago. what is the feeling

It feels strange to unintentionally compete with colleagues who had a lot of worries about acting when I was a kid who knew nothing. I think, 'Everyone has been together for a very long time'. I feel sympathetic. I hope that all three works, including <The Negotiation> in which I starred, will achieve satisfactory results and do well. That way, I think I'll be able to see you again later with a smile... (laughs). 

 

 

What kind of actor do you want to be remembered by the audience?

I want to become an actor who hears a lot of people say, 'You do really well.' Just like everyone feels good when they get compliments, so do I. Of course, in order to be evaluated as such an actor, you have to show the audience that you are constantly working hard. As his acting career has accumulated, he must feel a certain sense of responsibility for the success of the works he appears in. I have been able to act happily for the past 17 years thanks to the love that the audience has sent me. I want to return that grateful heart with good acting.
